Popped here today, after exercise class at Halstead Leisure centre, for breakfast. Today we had wild mushrooms on sour dough toast with a poached egg and it was delicious and great value for money. Always clean cafe and great service. If I had to offer and improvement I would have liked a few more mushrooms but I am greedy!!! I would recommend this cafe highly, for breakfast

Visited The Old Moot House for the first time to try their new smokehouse menu. Firstly the welcome was extremely warm and genuine, and we chatted over a drink in the bar whilst looking at the menu. There was a good selection to choose from, and we opted for the smoked meat platter. It was phenomenal! The quality of the cuts was excellent and the flavour simply delicious - the meat just melted. The sides were very nice, especially the potato cakes. Unfortunately, I didnā€™t leave enough room for dessert, but will be back to sample one (as well as a cocktail, when Iā€™m not driving). Highly recommend this charming restaurant.

We recently stayed here for our weekend. I was very disappointed with the cleanliness of our room. The room stayed it had a spa bath and only contained a bath and a shower. We had a Luke warm shower the first night and second day sadly was the same. I noticed a smell when we checked in and found the culprit to be a dirty fridge with spilt milk in the bottom of it which looked like it hadnā€™t been cleaned for weeks. The sofa cushions were just turned over to hide a stain and to top it off the housekeeping walked into our room without knocking and got a full eye full šŸ˜³. The breakfast was good although I would have liked more toast but Iā€™m not sure where the service was so I wonā€™t be staying there again sadly. The bed was comfy and the view spectacular just sadly felt like the service and cleanliness really needs attention to detail.

We're visiting from America and stayed in the thatched cottage next to the White Lion. Cindy and Neil were the best neighbors we could hope for. They've been kind and hospitable. Every evening, they light a cozy fire in the fireplace and turn on some relaxing tunes. It seems as though the White Lion is an important gathering place for the village. The patrons seemed to all be like happy family members, but were also very welcoming to outside guests. We enjoyed their chili on rice, nachos and a classic smash burger. They had quite a few other options on the menu as well, ranging from fish & chips to a variety of pizzas. They also had a kid's menu. Of course, they had a broad selection of beers and ales (and soft drinks for tee-totalers like us). It was just a great place all round to spend a few hours and relax.

Was so looking forward to visiting here but unfortunately very disappointed. We booked a table as we arrived was asked to wait, another 3 couples came in (same table for 2) and were seated before us. Took 25 mins of us having to keep calling staff over to finally put our drinks order in, was 'unable' to take food order as had to be another waiter- fine. Again another half an hour went by (was in there 1h before they would take our food order). Popadoms came out and were pleasent. Main meals came out total of 1h 30 mins being in the restaurant (table next to us had waited 2 full hours for their starters!). Rice was greasy and full of oil. Chicken masala had black burnt bits in it! My partner said his lamb was nice and tender however. Took 20 mins of attempting to call waiters over to ask for the bill which never even came so ended up going to the front to pay. By this time we had watched tables get up and leave due to poor service too. I think this is probably a lovely restaurant however on fully booked dining nights then need to focus on the guests dining in as opposed to take away. I did have a chat with the manager before we left to voice concerns and he was very pleasant understanding and gave us a free drink which was kind. But I still feel the need to write a review as we spent Ā£50 on poor service and burnt food and I visit a lot of Indian restaurants so appreciate variety between dishes at different venues. We unfortunately won't be returning here neither would recommend.

Best ploughman's I ever had. Who knew it could be spread so well? Just this man. The plate Steve produces is second to none, and watch your step šŸŖœ as you probably never thought to finish the main combo with picallily x beetroot on your forkā€”save the last blue cheese and grapes for the final smidge of chutters. Never will have a winner like it. Absolute gold. šŸ†

Visited on a Monday lunchtime on a drizzly day. A fair few people were there for either a drink or lunch. Beautiful fifteenth century coaching in with lovely atmosphere, full of beams, old furniture, pictures etc. This place oozes charm. Good quality and tasty pub food. All what we had was homemade to include the chips. Always put off when the chips are out of a freezer. Not inexpensive but that does not mean bad value. Nice and helpful lady behind the bar. Itā€™s nice to have a trip out to this pretty village. Used to come to the village when our children were young and eat at a lunchtime/tea shop place called Magnolia then Buckleyā€™s. That closed down a few years back and now without the children this place is great and utterly charming. Will return soon despite the 40 minute drive from the Herts Essex border where we live. Highly recommended.
