The best restaurants in East Midlands

Nice inside staff very friendly but rather expensive especially the sausage rolls not recommended come with a teaspoon of chutney an extra 25p

Visited here 22 February 2025 and highly recommend it for the friendly service from start to when we left, and the delicious food with the perfect blend of spices to give enough heat. We usually like medium/hot. It was a delight to not have loads of added salt which I usually get with vegetarian food. I would definitely return.

Came for a sausage making evening absolutely fantastic we had so much fun and made fantastic sausage. We all bought some beers wilt us and Johnny laughed and joked with us all night. We run events every fortnight and this is the best we’ve done for a good while

We had read all the good reviews, so had high hopes. We phoned ahead to ask if they did takeaway, which they said they did. Decided to go over and order and play pool while we waited - what a mistake! The owner was eating her dinner in the middle of the pool table area and was clearly very irritated to be disturbed. The man went off to cook our food, but had to keep asking her how to do things. Each question was greeted with a heavy sigh and the cutlery slammed down, until she eventually said "I may as well just eat my dinner when it's gone cold". We were made to feel a nuisance and very unwelcome - why didn't they just say "Sorry, not tonight" when we phoned to ask if they did takeaway? The food was barely warm and very average - like supermarket ready meals. We were staying in the area for a week, but we didn't go back.

Whilst moored up near Limekiln area of Oxford Canal we took a half hour walk up into the town to get fish & chips for lunch. Ordered cod (and mistakenly in retrospect) large chips to take away. We had to wait for cod to be cooked fresh (which we don’t mind). It was when the guy took this large metal dinner plate as a scoop to serve the chip portion. I was already thinking that I should have hammond small as it was way more than normally get at home town chip shops. However when he went in for a second snd appeared to be going back for at least part of the 3rd scoop I stopped him from adding anymore and suggested he going take some off as didn’t want to waste them He said the one dinner plate portion was small. I gave a 4 rather than 5 bd side the chips were a little undercooked to how we like them. Others might think they were perfect.

I Always have breaded cod , the ocean fish bar serves the best fish I’ve ever had . My little girl is a fan of the battered sausage . Always friendly service

Simply the best cafe in Northampton with a variety on the menu to suit everyone l! Fresh food that is a great portion size and has never ever been a poor experience in every order I’ve made it’s been 10/10. The lamb shank is my absolute favourite and the breakfasts are amazing not forgetting the sticky toffee pudding!!

Mexicali had a large varied menu, and the staff are very friendly and efficient. The food is very tasty and piping hot when served which is great. Drinks and food are both very fairly priced, and this restaurant is well worth a visit. Recommended.

The new decor is lovely ,Food is great and owners charming. When i first moved to area and had no kitchen was a daily visitor . Just a really nice experience .

went to try the food out and it didn't disappoint the samosas and the spring rolls were especially really nice with their sauce.

Un fantástico pub tradicional con una magnífica selección de cervezas de verdad. Jake y su personal son todos brillantes, encantador jardín de cerveza y perros permitidos. Sin duda volveré a visitar, me gustó mucho conocer a algunos de los lugareños muy amables.

They've changed hands recently and they now have fresh linen table cloths on all the inside tables - lovely. Also a fresh flower arrangement on each table - the extra touches make the difference. Food still great. Service attentive and quick. Keep up the good work.

Been on a few occasions recently and a different experience each time. Often quiet but can be busy. It's a cross between a bar and a pub with the vibe of a bar but good beers as well a selection of non-alcohol beers. Snacks often in short supply.

Stopped here twice yesterday once going to Kettering and once on the way back walked through the door and got told to shut up BUT ITS ALL FRIENDLY BANTER sue is lovely on way back I stopped off for food got told we closed but she did have a few bits left over IF YPU CANT TAKE BANTER DONT GO had a good long chat with sue about bikes and everything will be stopping by OH CRACKING BACON AND SAUSAGE COB really tasty from the YAMAHA XSR BLUE bike thanks again sue hope to see you at RTTW
