Been on a few occasions recently and a different experience each time. Often quiet but can be busy. It's a cross between a bar and a pub with the vibe of a bar but good beers as well a selection of non-alcohol beers. Snacks often in short supply.

I've been to the Nelson many a time for is large selection of Real Ales but for some reason there was only 3 pumps on and totally unknown, poor quality real ale. I got served a pint in a "Old Mount" cider glass?! It was a Friday night during Christmas but I would of thought the management would of pre planned for a busy weekend ahead and stocked up on cask ale? Also seems like they are understaffed so service was very slow. If you are looking for a good selection of good quality real ales the Nelson is not the place at the moment. Hope this can be improved.

So been out in Derby for a few drinks on St Patricks Day, can't say i've been overly impressed for the day itself but in the Lord Nelson and it's thr ONLY place in Derby playing irish/irish themed music, top not h on effort and the beer's tasty to add to it

Been here a few times over the past few weeks. Excellent choice of beers/lagers/wines. Guy behind the bar is always polite & as helpful as he can be. Compared to other places around the area, here is well priced & boasts one of the best beer gardens in Derby!

While some of the other pubs had ear-splitting music streaming out their doors, The Lord Nelson was a calm respite for my family to enjoy a pint or two. There's a small beer garden in the rear. When we visited, the only food available was small bags of crisps, but signs promised that a kitchen was coming!

A great pub for Derby's ale scene with many beers that always hit the right spot. Definitely a place to visit from the more experienced to novice ale drinkers.

We arrived to a roaring real fire, the pub has been stripped back to its original decor and is a comfortable cosy step back in time. The ale selection is really good and we also tried a coffee porter which was the best I've ever...

Welcome back to the Lord Nelson, yet another great addition to the real/cask ale scene in Derby. Interior is very well laid out with some great features (lights) and the background music was just right. The bar is a drinkers delight with a great selection...

Today 14th April 2025, served by a very obnoxious person who was obviously in a bad mood, she greeted me with a grunt, what do you want, told her beans on toast and a cup of tea because the last time her food was cold so thought i would make it easy for her, she gave me 3 slices of burnt toast stacked on top of each other with cold beans on the side of the plate, she slammed the tea down on the table, a few minutes later whilst i was deciding whether to eat the food she said do you want to pay which i did, whilst she slammed the change down on the counter and whilst walking away from me towards the kitchen she was calling me a weirdo which was very insulting and her bad attitude is disgusting and she as ruined my 3 times a week venue (she only served me twice) both times with an attitude. her customer service skills are very lacking in the skills part ?

Very nice meal with nice staff. I had the liver and onions, and i asked for no mashed potatoes and more vegetables instead. See photo of meal 10 out of ten. I will be returning soon for the mixed grill. The pub it's self is very nice, with a good atmosphere. The only small minus point is that the carpark is full of potholes and needs some TLC.
