The Great Northern in Derby

An unexpected meal out and it was delicious, the girl who served us was lovely. We both had tasty meals served promptly.

Will be visiting again this week. Just popped in for a pint on way home always good.

Only went to the Private Function room for a birthday celebration. Enjoyed the grounds and food offered. Alcohol prices acceptable.

Just went for a meal. Great friendly and efficient staff, Average food. Average portions but a clean and well presented dining area. Good carpark and a large bit unfenced garden. The outside seating area looked good.

I eat roast of the day, Sunday beef roast. It was extremely disappointing. I wish I'd returned and got my money back. Beef was tough, the Yorkshire was soaking in gravy. The roast spuds were full of grease and soaked in gravy and the whole meal was cold. I'll not return for the Sunday roast. Id like to mention this was early lunch, about 12:45 and the food tasted like it'd been warmed up from night before. 😞😞😞

Good pub , I did go here with friends real ale served here , guiness ect .

Stopped here to grab a bite to eat , was not disappointed. Can get busy after noon, so book ahead if you can . Food was very good full English breakfast and salmon and scrambled eggs on toast . Staff were friendly and helpful

absolutely adore this little venue! 🌷 every member of staff was a delight to maintain interaction with & very quick paced regarding food delivery time; decor was beautifully designed especially their menu & the variety of drink/food is very well crafted. pricing wise, it's phenomenal for one share starter, two mains & three drinks for 60 pounds is such great value, i always tip also 🍴 i must say the garden area is wonderfully modelled ( i do enjoy fairy lights with a sip of wine ) ✨️

First and last time , not impressed.

Quick service at the bar, and the waitress service is excellent the food is well cooked with a few gluten free options. Ample parking and also a large separate function room for private events . One way it could be improved by having a couple of real ales on draught. A very good pub....

Great breakfast and coffee, lots of outdoor seating. Meals always good value and great quality. Lovely function room with it's own bar and different priced buffets to suit everyone.

used to enjoy eating at the Great Northern but at my recent visit I was shocked at how conveyor belt the food had become. Overall an average at best meal below quality for money standard. My burger was tiny, my partners quiche had been microwaved not baked. So very disappointed after so many previous fabulous meals. What had happened? Complaincy due to popularity? No better than a chain like say chef and brewer.

Been here to photograph a wedding reception and also a wake, always a clean garden area every time I’ve been.

Called in as a group of 4. Not local to the area & all tables were reserved. I can only assume it was the manager but a lovely lady seated us and we had the loveliest meal with fantastic wine! Great service, lovely atmosphere 👌 top job.

Had a meal for Father's day. Steak, was nice, but luke warm. We were a large group. Staff chose to chat at the end of the bar, opposite our table about all sorts! Lol. (Maybe not appropriate)

We held our wake here, the buffet was the luxury one, but it was okay, very basic but freshly made, the room was quite spacious with a small bar, staff were plesent, drink prices we're good, and a good size carpark.

Always best to book a table as it does get busy at times. Food is better than average pub food. Service is friendly, polite and prompt. A mix of modern and brick and wood old style decor. Wheelchair ♿️ user friendly. I can't rate the rooms as we didn't stay over.

Visited here for a family meal. Great choice of food and drinks. Service was good and tentative. Although it was very busy food came out at a good rate and we were checked on regualy to see if we were OK.

Lovely food marred by the rude and petulant behaviour of one of the staff - a scowling bearded guy who literally threw both the mains and deserts on the table. He was like a hormonal teenager who had just been told he was grounded for a week. This utterly charmless individual was also rude to my mother in law when she was paying the bill. We have been a few times, but are reluctant to return if this is the service on offer.

Visited a few times and on all occasions food has been dry. The place itself looks clean and the staff are very polite but don't think I'll be choosing to return.

Been here many times over the years for a drink but visited last week ..first time for a meal with friends and it was realy nice . We had a range of meals from meaty mixed grills to vegitarian Halloumi curry. Both well presented and relay well made. Staff very friendly and happy to help without being too intrusive. Great night Nice place to call for a drink inside or out ... weather permitting! Great selection of beers and wines. Did not seem to expensive either...

Went for a remembrance of life. Very clean and tidy. Food was very good and hot food was hot but did hear somebody say most came from costco I'm don't know. Still all very good.

Visited briefly for a private function. The venue was clean and well maintained, staff were excellent. Convenient location with good access and a large carpark.

Often have lunch at this pub but recently found out they offer breakfast every day 10 until 12. Relativly small menu but full English large or small on offer as well as smaller offerings such as bacon sandwich etc. We had small English which was excellent, good quality well cooked and presented. Very reasonably priced would recommend.

We were a party of 6 having lunch after an emotional family funeral yesterday. 2 meals were generous portions. 1meal (chicken was returned due dry chicken), the replacement was just ok. 3 of us had the Seabass which consisted of 2 very small fillets, over cooked and dry served on a meagre portion of new potatoes and approx 10 green beans. Very disappointing. I have an healthy appetite and this portion was very small for the cost. Extra vegetables were requested which was a bowl of green beans. The service by the male waiter was mediocre and certainly not conducive to be called customer service. 4 of the party had puddings with the Rocky Road deemed as disappointing. Probably best to stick to traditional pub grub and not have such an ambitious menu. We didn’t make a fuss as it was a family get together after a difficult and emotional day yesterday. In hindsight I wished I had sent my meal back.

My son who lives in Mickleover took me here Saturday 9th for mothers day, shame the chips were frozen, would recommend making fresh chips soooo much better.

Note that this is a pub which appears completely food led, I could see no room without dining tables. Went for a family meal. Welcome and service faultless.

Forgot to take a photo of the place, however it had a chilled feel about it for a meal with friends. What I can say is the food was superb (the mixed grill wiped me out!) and the service was excellent too. Prices were very reasonable, good range of beer, although they need a pilsner! Very worth a visit if you are after a bite to eat.

Afternoon lunch. Massive portions! Good pub grub, much improved from the last time we went where the only real vegi option was the jacket potatoes. Now a good and tasty choice 😋

Called in at dinner time, not booked a table but we were fitted in. Quick, friendly service and great food, the liver, onions and bacon was delicious, the gravy was that good it could have been served on its own as a soup.

Food was awful! Had a lasagne which was completely dry and had way too much melted cheese plonked on top. Staff weren’t attentive at all and the looks on their face could tell the food looked rubbish. Also over priced would not recommend or return

Menu options excellent! Dinner top notch and served hot!. Staff and atmosphere relaxed, friendly and efficient! Absolutely the best stucky toffee I ever had...and I've tasted many over the years! Only one suggestion...the car park needs lighting and parking bay lines....was a little bit 'wacky races' trying to get into a space. A popular place!

Went with friends for an evening meal, our first visit. Great setting, good service and delicious well presented food. We will be back. 😊

Visited for my mother-in-law's birthday. It was Sunday lunchtime and busy. The service was prompt and the food good.

Lovely, friendly, pub. Really good breakfast options. Be sure to book at least a week in advance as it is really popular.

We absolutely love this place, the food is amazing with outstanding service. Keep it up and we will keep coming back.

Booked The Great Northern for an 80th birthday party. The food and staff were wonderful, nothing was too much trouble even though they were extremely busy with the Christmas bookings

Посетили вчера первый раз, но опыт неудачный. Когда мы попросили убрать со стола, за который хотели сесть, пришлось спрашивать у двух человек за стойкой бара. Человек пришел, вытер все мокрой тряпкой, убрал стаканы, и ушёл. Пришлось идти в туалет за бумагой, и самим вытирать , чтобы не сидеть за мокрым столом. Не знаю, может это не их работа столы протирать? 😞

We had vouchers for a meal at Christmas last year…but with busy schedules we struggled to get until today…absolutely amazing food we had the mixed grill & nachos to share as a starter but I didn’t get a photo of the nachos they were lush & so was the mixed grill…will definitely return…the staff are extremely friendly & helpful…would highly recommend

Very good meals, staff polite and attentive.

A lunch Time meal with 5 ex work colleagues we had booked table, & it wasn't too busy. Drinks were ordered,& arrived quickly. I had fish & chips, which was nicely served,& very tasty, followed by a New York cheese cake ,I think it was.

Unfortunately my visit was for a funeral but it's a lovely place with great staff

I have always had a good meal here, however; we arrived and they had no record of our booking and no resolution. So we went i to the bar for a drink and ask if we could eat there and could but needed to order at the bar, no problem. We ordered and sat down, now the bar is very run down compared to the other side, there is a corner seated area that would not look out of place in a crack house. Anyway we both had Chicken and Stilton pie which I have had there before but this time wasn't the best, pastry went from rock hard (my wife left hers) to something that felt like it came out of a microwave. We did actually ask if they had been microwaved and were told no. The pie filling was slop no pieces of chicken and no real sign of Stilton. It was edible and ok but probally the worst meal I have ever had at this establishment. Staff were very good other than some guy with a beard that seemed in charge that really needed to learn how to interact with humans. We actually used the function room and I have to say the buffet was very good and the staff were more than helpful.

Elisha was a great host for my grandad wake. Very attentive couldn’t have wished for better service. A lovely place to say our final goodbyes!

It was our first time visiting The Great Northern and it won't be the last. They have a wide ranging menu and the food is tasty. It is easy to get to and plenty of parking. I imagine it is a great place during the warmer months when you are able to sit outside.

Function room booked for a party we attended. Great service, buffet food excellent and no shortage so everyone was sufficiently fed.

After just having our wedding reception here yesterday, I couldn't have been happier with service provided. The staff were absolutely incredible and very understanding with last minute changes which they had no problems meeting to ensure we had the best time. All we received were compliments about how nice the buffet was and due to the length of time there, they were happy to bring the food out in 2 lots to make sure people didn't miss out if they came early or late. I'd absolutely recommend this venue for any kind of event because they really do go the extra mile for you. Our room was super spacious that we stayed in aswell and it was just an all around beautiful experience.

The food was good but not very good proportions , the waiter asked us to pass our plates to the end of the table although there was plenty of room for him to get round , we was asked to leave as they had the table booked for someone else , we was not told this on arrival , not good communication

We love this place! It is exceptional in every aspect. Excellent service from everyone involved in your visit. The food is great and reasonably priced and the rooms are clean and comfortable. It all has a lovely ambience. Highly recommend.
