Thought give it a go read some excellent reviews. How wrong was I placed order at 6-10 was told going to be an hour and 20 mins, waited no show even gave extra half an hour the phoned up to ask where it was and it hadn’t even been started so cancelled and went somewhere else
Oh what a gem of a place to stay. Rustic and welcoming. Service was impeccable and the food was delicious. We didn't have to wait too long for our meals to arrive,
all homemade and the cakes were to die for.
Helen the owner was so helpful and informative with the history of the tea room and any other questions we had.
Wil definitely return
Five of us including a vegetarian had a full English breakfast. Everything was of a high quality and cooked extremely well. The waiting staff were very pleasant and friendly. Would definitely recommend at £6.95 per breakfast 10 out of 10.
It wasn't until after we'd paid for drinks that we were told they'd have to be in takeaway cups, despite it only being 2pm, an hour before closing. When we queried this, they said they close early if it's raining. Why? I can understand if the weather meant it was really quiet, but they were turning away customers because they apparently couldn't work if it was raining outside.
Called in for a meal as all local eateries were packed out. My wife had her usual chicken chow mein, which she enjoyed. However my chicken szechuan and fried rice was bland. Lots of chicken and veg but the sauce was watery and lacked the spiciness I would expect. No egg in the fried rice. At home, for about £5 cheaper, we would have had a far tastier meal. It was not until I began this review I realised we had also been overcharged by £1. Having seen some of the positive reviews, I can only assume, this was a bad day in the kitchen. Thankfully, unlikely to be in this area again so won't have to consider a return visit
Absolute gem of a place. Probably the best macchiato I’ve ever had…..anywhere. The barista clearly knows his stuff. The coffee has a beautiful fruity flavour and though I didn’t try the pastries or sandwiches, they looked delicious. Top coffee.
A relatively small but delightfully charming eating place. With four or five tables with accompanying chairs and a couple of comfortable padded chairs and a two seater settee.
There isn't a large selection available but the portions are generous and excellent value.
The tea loaf which I sampled was very tasty as was the orange and lemon cake which I took out for later consumption.
The hot chocolate, I had was served with a generous accompaniment of cream and marshmallows.
I found the place to have a very friendly and relaxed ambience, initially I was the sole customer but it wasn't long before others steadily strolled in and leisuredly sat down to enjoy what was available.
A good place to enjoy a quiet beverage, or a satisfying panini, sandwich or jacket potato, or perhaps, treat oneself to a slice of cake.
The cafe is however situated upstairs in Chesterfield Antiques Centre so the dozen or so stairs might mean that it is less accessible to some.
Should these not pose a problem, It's a quiet little haven away from the everyday bustle.
A clearly marked folding board is usually placed nearby outside giving more precise directions.
We visited and stayed in Keelby on the bank holiday weekend of April. Very friendly staff and made better with the good weather as we sat outside.
Would happily visit again if we were to come back to Keelby. My partner’s a bit of a premium beer snob and said to write about recommending a more premium beer such as Madri or Moretti.
Went here recently to celebrate an anniversary, night ended with both of us confined to the bathroom.
First of all, I will preface this by saying the venue itself is lovely. The design is excellent, it’s well lit, the music is good and the shisha bar also looked good though we didn’t go in there.
However, upon entering we were hidden in a corner seat despite an empty restaurant. After ordering from the extensive menu we were left waiting for a very long time, especially given the lack of other customers on this particular night.
Now the food, my partner ordered a pasta dish which was essentially inedible. Had a foul smell that made us question if it had been prepared this side of the Industrial Revolution. The chicken on top and garlic bread were average, but were overpowered by the rancid smell and taste of the pasta. This is not helped by the ambiguity of the menu, since ‘zesty sauce’ can mean many things and certainly didn’t describe the dish that was served. This is a trend among other items on the menu and narrowed down the menu to only a handful of dishes we could decipher the contents of. I had a biryani dish which, while more edible than the pasta, was ultimately three pieces of dry chicken lumped into a small bucket of rice.
After our noble attempts at eating, we were left for a long time while watching numerous staff walk past without even looking at us and led to us leaning over the foliage we were hidden behind to request the bill.
Shortly after leaving the restaurant we found ourselves briskly walking home to the safety of the porcelain, where we remained for the following few hours.
Overall, the setting allows for the potential to a wonderful restaurant for young people that is unfortunately let down by almost every other aspect, including the overall unwelcoming atmosphere.
Dan, Hannah and the team making quality coffee (roasted by the same guys serving it).
Highly recommend for personable service and really good well made coffee although if you like Starbucks buckets this may not be for you.
A great choice of Coffees also sold in beans or ground to spec to take away.
A little gem that is also supplying good coffee for more and more other places in town to sell.
