The best restaurants in Prebendal East Northamptonshire East Midlands

Was really looking forward to going to this cafe. Got there just before 3pm, in good time we thought as open until 4pm. There was an empty table outside, and one or two inside. We were met entering by a gentlemen who quickly said to us 'sorry, bookings only'. We don't believe this to be true at all. A 'couple' on the other table outside said that they hadn't booked and had just walked in. I went and asked the gentlemen if we could just get a couple of drinks .... his reply was then that they were too busy and no we couldn't! How difficult it is, and time consuming is it, to make a couple of coffees when you are a cafe(!), I have never come across this before! He had a whole hour to make us a drink. We'd been to another cafe earlier, which was much busier, called 'The Command Post', PE8 6SR, which I would highly recommend and seemed much nicer and helpful staff. He obviously lied to us. Well we won't be trying there again. I would therefore suggest booking if you are thinking of going to this place!! Especially if you're venturing from afar as you could be mistaken in thinking you can just turn up for light refreshments! BTW, I'm sure it is nice once/if they let you in and want to serve you. Where does it say 'bookings/reservations only' for just tea or coffee!? There were tables available and pretty sure it says 'walk ins' welcome!

Lovely cafe right on the river. Very nice people, extremely reasonable prices, homemade cakes (always the mark of cafe quality in my opinion for the treats to be homemade vs. bought in). Delicious toasties and sausage bacon sub rolls. I really enjoyed the cream tea as well, excellent scones. I anticipate we will go back quite often, and I say this as an avid baker who sells treats and breads quite often herself :)

We came to Nassington to collect something my wife had bought online and figured, while we were here, we would try it for a late lunch. I went to check if they allowed dogs (we have 2, beagle and shihtsu) and were still serving; as soon as I walked in the door it felt warm and welcoming. There were quite a few folks in but it was genial rather than crowded, and the music was actually background rather than live gig level (a rarity these days, it would seem), so also seeing the cosy fire and the water bowl for dogs made our decision inevitable. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and efficient, and our order was taken quickly for a shared Camembert to start then beef sirloin and pork belly mains which didn't take long to arrive and, when they did, what a treat! Quite the best Sunday dinners we've had in a long time, with top-notch roasties, beautifully done roast carrots & parsnips and a scrumptious cauliflower cheese. For me, if the food is good enough the only accompaniment should be an optional twinkle of salt & pepper and so it was here; all was cooked to perfection with excellent flavour and any additions would have spoiled it. They only had two ales on the pump and one was GK IPA (I never touch it) but luckily they had a fine local Nene Valley Brewery session blonde which went very well with my meal. The doglets settled in very quickly, which is always a good measure of the ambience, so all in all this was a brilliant spur of the moment choice. We will definitely be back and I would heartily recommend it to anyone who likes a traditional local pub with atmosphere and excellent food - well, who doesn't? :)

We had an excellent afternoon tea with attentive and friendly waiting staff. There was an issue and it was dealt with over and above what was required. Things do go wrong in the best run establishnents and it is how it ist dealt with that matters. The did everything and more than was needed. I thoroughly recommend them.

Nos gusta conducir a los pueblos locales un sábado por la noche y mirar alrededor de las localidades encantadoras. El sábado pasado elegimos el bonito pueblo de Nassington. Encontramos el Queens Head y condujimos a su aparcamiento muy grande con un largo césped que bajaba hasta el río con hermosas vistas expansivas. Absolutamente encantador. Entramos en el pub que necesita un poco de TLC. Había unas 10 personas en el bar. Detrás de la barra estaba obviamente el chef. Llevaba una chaqueta y pantalones de chef bastante cansados. No hubo bienvenida social y nos dirigió al restaurante detrás de la barra. Una joven agradable tomó nuestro pedido de vino que vino rápidamente con los menús. Ambos estábamos decepcionados por el menú. Se parecía a un 'café de camioneros' en lugar del de un pintoresco pub inglés. Después de una lucha por encontrar algo que nos atrajera, los dos elegimos el bacalao con una cremosa salsa de curry de coco. Finalmente el chef dejó el bar y produjo el plato. Era una porción muy pequeña de bacalao en una enorme pila de arroz rodeada de una salsa de curry. El pescado no estaba condimentado, no había sabor a coco y la salsa no era cremosa, pero tenía un sabor ligero a curry. Pagamos nuestra cuenta y nos fuimos. Los propietarios de este establecimiento deben prestar atención a todos los aspectos de su operación comercial. Qué pena, una ubicación hermosa, un edificio antiguo encantador, pero un negocio pobre.

We were staying down the road at the Queens head, walked down the village and popped in here for a drink, what a great friendly little pub, Brian the landlord and his mum Linda, made us very welcome, we felt like part of the local community, we enjoyed so much we went back several times during our 2 night stay, and much preferred it to the Queens head. Esta tarde, tuve una increíble comida preparada por el talentoso Chef Lee, con sabores tan notables que se quedarán conmigo para siempre. La amabilidad y el cuidado genuino del personal me hicieron sentir completamente como en casa, mientras que la calidez y dedicación del propietario creó un ambiente acogedor y edificante. No era solo cenar, era pura alegría.
