Falcon in East Northamptonshire

This is one of our favourite restaurants, where there is always a warm welcome. We chose a midweek evening for our recent visit, having established it wasn't just the 'Pie and pint' menu, but also a varied à la carte and bar menu. In the event, we chose non-meat pies, one fish and one butternut squash, tasty with vegetables included. We both had the whipped goat's cheese, tomato ice-cream (yes, you read that correctly!) with heritage tomatoes as a starter, which was delicious. One drink each was included, making this a very reasonably priced meal. Judging by the full tables, we weren't alone in thinking this. There is plenty of parking behind the pub, always a bonus.

Excellent “friday” fish and chips! Great value for £10. Fish was very fresh and delicious. Chips were good, as was the homemade tartare sauce. Mushy peas were also included! The rest of the menu looked good as well. The lady at the bar was very pleasant and welcoming. We will definitely return.

Traditional pub and restaurant, very comfortable with a good atmosphere. Good choice of menu apart from lack of vegetarian choices available when we visited. Food is off a very good standard, good wine, good friendly service and great value

The Falcon is a wonderful place to visit. Fotheringhay is the quintessential English village with great history and the pub is a little stunner. We've been several times, and would go more frequently if we were a little nearer. Absolutely everything tastes freshly prepared, never pre-frozen and not only is the Fish & Chips Friday special a really good deal it is probably the best fish and chips I have ever tasted the right down to the home made tartare sauce. But the pizzas and sticky toffee pudding deserve a mention. The staff also seemed to be hired wisely, and couldn't be more helpful. But it is the food that is the real star here. The chef deserves a big pat on the back.

Fish and Chip Friday never disappoints we booked in advance as this is a very popular pub/restaurant. The fish and chips were great value for money and certainly didn’t disappoint. The only down side to the evening was that we were reserved a table in the bar rather than the light and airy conservatory that we prefer with views of the garden and Fotheringhay church as the restaurant was fully booked. The bar was very busy and noisy and we were sat next to a large table who were very loud making it difficult to hold a conversation. The hot soufflés are a must when visiting this pub/restaurant however we cut this visit short and left after the main course. we will return again making sure that we request a table in the restaurant as this makes for a better dining experience

We last visited The Falcon over two years ago and had a reasonable experience, though we remember the meats being undercooked. Hoping for an improvement, we decided to give it another try, expecting an enjoyable meal. Unfortunately, we were disappointed once again. Our recent visit was for a lunch booking, made somewhat last minute, for a table of eight. When we arrived, there were only two other patrons in the restaurant. We were greeted by a young man who showed us to our table. Although there was no dedicated children's menu, the waiter suggested a few options, and we opted for a tomato pasta. The main menu offered a wide variety of dishes, and we all selected something we were excited to try. When the food arrived, it initially looked appetising, but on closer inspection, it was clear that appearances were deceiving. The tomato pasta seemed to be nothing more than boiled pasta tossed in what tasted like tomato soup. The chicken club sandwich was overwhelmed by mustard, drowning out the other flavors, and the onion rings were soggy and undercooked. To make matters worse, we encountered undercooked meats, poorly prepared potatoes, and even found a sizable bone in a spring roll. This visit was a truly disappointing experience, and sadly, we won’t be returning. It's unfortunate, especially as we’re locals, but the quality simply doesn’t justify the prices they charge.

We booked a table at The Falcon for a Sunday lunch and as it was a warm day, chose to eat outside. The delightful little garden has plenty of tables to choose from, situated either in shade or sunshine. Despite our embarrassingly late arrival (we phoned to say we were going to be late), we were made to feel welcome and their understanding at our tardiness was most appreciated. The waiters/waitresses were friendly, polite and efficient and our meals were served quite quickly despite how busy they were. The food was well presented, there was plenty of it and it was extremely tasty. We followed our main course with dessert and I can highly recommend the chocolate brownie! We will definitely be returning soon.

This place has a special place in our hearts. We had our first anniversary meal at the Falcon after having our wedding there last year (would really recommend as a great venue the afternoon tea was fantastic). As usual the team were very welcoming and really make us feel at home. The food was fantastic. The bar starters are one of our favourite parts, especially the Korean chicken and the duck spring roll as there is lots of meat. The mains were a good portion and by dessert we were happily full. A great place for a special meal.

Tasteless food left me so disappointed, staff were friendly but unfortunately we won’t be returning which is a shame as we are local

Dreadful experience. I really don’t want to go through the litany of errors throughout the evening, it ended with the Cook leaving the kitchen, confronting our table and aggressively demanding if there was something wrong with the food. We had been waiting at least one hour despite there only one other occupied table in the restaurant no food had been served. We paid the drinks bill and left hungry

We were at The Falcon Inn for a wedding reception and it was AMAZING! From cocktails in the garden area to dinner and dancing under a beautiful tent and late night pizza everyone had a terrific time! The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!

Had lunch. Terribly slow service and food equally poor. Will not return. Staff blamed it on good weather so not able to cope but the place was nowhere near full. Wow! A very warm and welcoming pub, the hospitality and the food was 10/10. With a great variety of menu choices, we had to make the most and had a selection of sides, 3 roasts, 2 sticky toffee puddings & a cappuccino. The food did not disappoint, it was hot, presented well and the dishes were bursting with flavours. The staff are all very efficient and we were even honoured with our food being served by the owner/chef himself, what a way to value and appreciate your custom. Visited last night (Good Friday) having seen the fish and chip offer. It was excellent and 4 empty plates left our table. The batter on the fish was melt in the mouth. I had crème brûlée for dessert and this too was lovely. We will return to try other meals from the menu. Thank you for a very pleasant evening.

I had a lovely evening visiting with two friends for fish and chip Friday. The atmosphere was lovely, the staff couldn’t have been more attentive and welcoming and the fish and chips were delicious. Great evening.

I visited The Falcon Inn last night with my wife and another couple. We all enjoyed excellent meals and drinks in a very comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. We haven’t been to The Falcon for several years since we moved away. It was great to be welcomed back to find out it’s still one of the best pub/restaurants in the region. It was Friday evening, so there was a good crowd, but the service was still very personable. The meals were excellent and we were very pleased to see £10 specials for fish & chips and several pies. The pies were proper, home-made, short crust pastry pies, not just a pastry lid like you sometimes get. The real ales were very well conditioned and there was an excellent selection of beers and wines. Overall, it was a very enjoyable evening and an exceptionally good value. The couple that run The Falcon (front of house Madison and head chef Zak) were both very visible and obviously work very hard to keep this one of the best pub/restaurants around. We’ll be back soon!

Once again another great evening at The Falcon Inn. Fish & Chips for £10!! Incredible value for a good portion of ale battered cod, home made chips, mushy peas and the Chef's own tartar sauce. We sat near the open fire which was lovely. Background music played which is a new thing and I believe adds to the already lovely atmosphere. A very good range of ales, larger and wines. With my meal I went for a cool Red Stripe. The service was good as always and was served by the Proprietor Maddy who is always so friendly and accommodating. My wife chose off the a la Carte and had filet steak which was also I believe delicious! I would certainly recommend a visit here. You won't be disappointed!

Had another wonderful evening at this beautifully unique rustic venue. Myself and my partner full advantage of their £10 pie week offer and was not left disappointed, leaving with full stomachs. Noticeably fresh food, made properly from scratch by the in house team with locally sourced ingredients. Will be back to try fish and chips Friday soon (also modestly priced at £10) Service was friendly and welcoming from Madison who was attentive to our needs and consistently checked in and took time to learn our names. As someone who likes to eat out and cook homemade food myself, I don’t know what else I could have asked for. I love to see a restaurant staying unique and not “chainy” Keep up the good team at the Falcon Inn and thank you again for the wonderful evening!

Delicious meal midweek seated at the bar with an open log fire, pies were the highlight for a change and my husband went for the fish and chips. Great atmosphere, perfect as always !

I have a dairy allergy which the inn worked with very well - the chef offered to make dairy free pastry so that I could take advantage of their special offer during ‘pie week’. By the time we got to dessert the chef had also rustled up a dairy free chocolate mousse so I didn’t have to miss out on pudding either. The service throughout was also excellent. I would thoroughly recommend a visit.

We were excited to try the Falcon Inn’s pies for National Pie Week and they didn’t disappoint! Ours were beautifully presented with delicious filling and pastry. We can also definitely recommend the Korean chicken, truffle macaroni cheese and scotch eggs from the bar menu…all were absolutely delicious and none of us needed to eat again that day! Service was really friendly and coped brilliantly with our big complex order. Thank you Falcon Inn team for a lovely experience!

Worst service I've had in months. Booked for 2pm. At no point were we told we weren't able to have the a la carte menu. We arrived early at 1.30pm and asked for the menu. We were brought the bar menu half an hour later at 2pm and told the a la cart menu had finished (at 2!!!). Took almost 2 hours from getting through the door to getting our food. Uncooked chips even after the food took an hour to come out. The waiter had to come and ask us 15 mins after taking our order whether he had got it right then stood over my daughter waiting for her to finish her meal, despite us waiting so long to get it. Small portions. Left hungry.

National Pie Week apparently but not today! Event advertised but limited service due to staff training. Not impressive. Hall behind front door dirty, obviously not cleaned for weeks. This pub needs some refurbishment and a better focus on customers. Disappointing.

Amazing food! My husband and I were so impressed with our dinners. We both had different starters and mains and all were delicious. We bought a loaf of their homemade bread because it was so good. A warm slice with homemade butter was given as a complimentary item before our starters came out. An added bonus was that the two young ladies serving were lovely. Highly recommended!

We always heard really good things regarding the falcon at Fotheringhay New owners and 2 rosette level food so thought it would be nice to take the staff to the falcon for our little Christmas party on a Friday night We arrived a little late due to local roads being flooded On arrival the staff very friendly and felt welcome We ordered the food very excited for the menu as I used to work 2 Rossette level food However the food seem to take forever to get served to us. the restaurant had a few tables in and the small bar area had a few tables In The starters were nice but unfortunately the mussels weren't the hottest and the duck pate with hard butter my colleague struggled to eat however said this was also nice The mains yet again took a age to get to us infact I had to ask of this was coming all nice accept the undercooked chips and underseasoned food Almost like the chef was either behind This was first day of trading after a short Christmas break so wasn't fussed I remember those days Desserts my brulee was delicious And the soufflé was also said it was delicious However the sticky toffee was not sticky toffee pudding whole dates through it a thin toffee sauce and this was left All in all a nice night soo thankyou But unfortunately as we had to wait along time for the food which made it a little dissapointing

Stopped for lunch at 'The Falcon' Inn, Fotheringay. What a wonderfully warm welcome we received from the Barman. We were offered the option of sitting in the bar by a beautiful fire or a lovely bright Conservatory. We chose the log fire. The starters of Scallops and Heritage Tomato with cheese were both sublime. We were provided with the most outstanding Guiness Homemade Bread and Whipped Butter which was to die for! We had the Roast Lamb and the Venison, both were fabulous. The wine was beautiful. We enjoyed the Guiness Bread so much we obtained a Takeaway all beautifully wrapped. The Owner is so welcoming and lovely and made us feel so much at home. we will be visiting again very soon. Do not hesitate to visit this establishment! Happy New Year! John and Kate.

Phenomenal food, personable staff and lovely atmosphere. I had the lamb duo off the seasonal menu and my date had the trendalls sausages and mash. Both dishes were delicious and the lamb hotpot was especially tasty.

Random day off yesterday and decided to treat myself to lunch at The Falcoln Inn. Was delighted to hear some background music when I walked in which I found very welcoming alongside the warmth of the open fires. I decided to sit in the bar area due to being on my own and I must say the fellow customers were very chatty. I ordered the duck liver parfait which was dressed with plums and looked very pretty. Presentation was lovely…. It was delicious served alongside home made breads and homemade sea salt butter. I then ordered the stuffed ginea fowl with dauphinois potatoes with seasonal veg. The ginea fowl was stuffed with the softest mouse and the sauce it came with left my tastebuds having a party. All rounded off with an americano coffee. I cannot wait to revisit this delightful establishment again and next time will definitely take a co diner. Thank you to the bar staff and waiting staff, you made me feel very welcome. To the chefs, thank you for an amazing meal. You certainly work very hard with your menus and quality of dishes

I came here with my family last night, and it was fantastic. We live locally, but hadn’t been for a while. The wine was fantastic, the staff were all knowledgeable and friendly. I’m vegan and they went out of their way to produce a fantastic starter and main for me. The cauliflower steak is highly recommended, even if you’re a meat eater! It was quick and a comfortable environment. It’s not cheap, but worth every penny. Thank you!

Another enjoyable evening thanks to everyone at The Falcon. It was very busy. We visited in the evening when the view of St Mary and All Saints tower from the dining room is spectacular. Although it’s been a while since our last review following a visit to The Falcon the standard remains consistently high. From the moment of making the reservation we were made to feel valued. One of the things we enjoy most about eating here are the people. Smiling faces and humour make all make for a positive experience. The dining room was very clean and comfortable. Our food was beautifully presented and very well cooked, portion sizes were just right. We look forward to visiting The Falcon again and would highly recommend it.

Used to live in Kingscliffe so were regulars, and haven't been back to this lovely pub for over 10 years. Called in yesterday on the off-chance we could have lunch before heading back to London. Sat in the cosy bar area, just like the old days although the restaurant is light and sunny. As it happens the kitchen were launching their new menu that day too. My mother had haddock fish and chips off the bar menu and I had the Deene Park venison wellington, pommes puree, blackberries, coffee jus, cep off the a la carte and let me tell you both dishes were OUT OF THIS WORLD! Thank you.

This is a great place for dinner amongst friends. The relaxed service suited us just fine. Food was lovely. Some of the recent reviews seem unfair. Very friendly. Reasonable value for money. I would go again.

Madison and Jen helped us arrange a truly superb celebration lunch for us with family and friends. Nothing was too much trouble and the team set out the orangery and patio beautifully for us. Zak and his team produced mouth-watering canapés and a delicious 3-course lunch. Chloe and the team looked after us with amazing, friendly and unobtrusive service. Everyone had a wonderful time including the children who also enjoyed the garden. Madison & Zak clearly work extremely hard because results such as we experienced takes enormous amounts of effort & diligence. We’ll be back!

We visited the Falcon based on the 5 star reviews. However, apart from friendly service, everything else was exceedingly poor. The limited Menu (we were told that one starter and one main course were no longer available despite there only being one other table occupied ! ) looked interesting enough but we found the dishes such as the Hake Wellington and the Gazpacho to be insipid and unappetizing! The white asparagus with the hake and the cherries with the duck were non-existent and the seasonal green-leaf vegetable was rather boring! When we visited, it was certainly not a five-star experience and was very poor value for money!

We've been dining here for over 50 years, but never again. Brocoli like wood, fish cakes hard and no taste, brownie SO hard the knife would hardly cut through it ( at £8.50 a disgrace!). Sausages and mash was OK but the burgers were dull and served luke warm.It's not good value and although the waitresses were brilliant, the cooking was not! One sad lady here!

Service appalling although friendly enough. Waited ages. Ordered a spritzer - arrived with only a dash of soda. No lemon in the elderflower despite asking. Food finally arrived approx 1 hour after our arrival. Asked for salt/pepper and tomato ketchup. Eventually arrived after reminding twice - but only as we were finishing our food. Overall the food was just about OK- although very mediocre. Chips best part. Everything else only one or two stars. Not worth the money and certainly did not live up to earlier reviews. Very disappointed

This was our second visit to The Falcon Inn and we were not disappointed. The tables in the bar were all occupied so we were seated in the conservatory area with a view of the wood fired pizza oven. The team were excellent and the food delicious

We had been recommended this restaurant and was not disappointed. The food is superb and the staff are professional, warm and friendly without being over familiar. I had the hake wellington for main, this was divine and plentiful. For dessert I chose the lemon & blueberry tart, the filling was sharp and it had lovely thick pasty. Overall the food was pretty perfect but the only critique, the broccoli we were served was cold?

This was chosen as a beautiful location for our wedding reception but sadly the Assistant manager 'Jen' made it the worst possible day of my life. From taking my nonrefundable £500 deposit and lying about what service they could provide in terms of deco, music etc. On the day she told my kids entertainers that they were being too loud. I was promised music for my 20 guests upon arrival. There was non, no apology or willingness from Jen to resolve. She blamed us for breaking the speakers saying that we moved them from the kitchen to outside. When it was the internet /wifi issue. However the night before we had tested the falcon inn speakers and they worked fine. I would have appreciated her letting me know to bring a backup as an option. Jen was rude and my guests felt uncomfortable as a result and so did I. My guests enjoyed most of the food apart from the chicken. Would I go back? Not if I have to deal with Jen and her superiority complex. Her service delivery is appalling. My husband and I went back to collect our bit and pieces after the event including finalising monies owed to us. She told my husband, I want nothing to do with you or your wife!! She's fortunate her manager gives her the lee way to behave in such a manner to customers who have paid over a thousand pounds for a simple reception lunch. Don't worry we won't be back again.

A lovely meal to start the week off. What we would definitely recommend is the rhubarb pudding it was like little explosions of rhubarb exploding in your mouth coupled with a lovely custard mousse and cubes of ginger cake. Lovely drive out in the country
