A cosy pub to sit and have a meal or just a cup of hot coffee on a cold day. Good walks around the pub with plenty of history.

We had the most marvellous experience at The Falcon yesterday. It was a family gathering to celebrate a 90th birthday. We had our own room and a delicious buffet. Everyone, young and old, loved the food which appeared unobtrusively and efficiently. We were able to move about and spend time with the relatives who had come from abroad and even move outside in small groups. The Manager did everything she could to ensure we had a good experience even though they had plenty of other customers. Thank you Madison.

First things first the staff in this venue are so incredibly attentive and do this place proud I’m sure we spent more money than we would’ve done just based on how helpful they were. It was good old-fashioned customer service and I think the staff are the best thing about this venue that being said though the food is also incredible. Everything appears to be cooked freshly and to perfection strongly recommend this pub and also recommend the fish and chip Friday!

We visited this weekend, with family. What a thriving place - it was really busy, and had a good atmosphere. We had chance to have a drink in the bar, near the fire - before we were seated for our dinner. We were seated in the conservatory area. The decor was really good, with some interesting decorations dotted all around - with a nice view into the garden. There was a good selection of meals to choose from. I would have loved to have had a selection of some of the bar snacks, as the sausage roll and scotch egg sounded fantastic. Most of our group ordered pie, I chose the lamb roast. Everyone was pleased with their choices. Everything was very tasty - especially the cauliflower cheese. The only very tiny criticism is that I'd have liked just a little more lamb. The cheese board was really good - with a decent amount of cheese, and crackers to go with it. The service was spot on - and the owner was really lovely. We will definitely return, especially for the Guinness loaf (don't tell everyone, but you can preorder these and have a whole loaf to take away)

Went with friends for the "Pie night" special but was somewhat disappointed with the food. We have consistently considered The Falcon to be one of the best eateries in the area, however this was not our experience this time. Our table had both the venison and the beef & blue cheese pies. We found the veg too perfumed/fragrant, the chips were bruised/had bad bits, the pies were slightly too salty and lacking depth of flavour. It wasn't 'bad', just not to the standard we have come to expect from this establishment. The service was spot on. Unfortunately we were slightly in the thoroughfare of the bar, though we were early eaters and so it wasn't too much of an issue.

A nice choice of dishes in the A la carte, Bar and Snack menus. I chose beautifully cooked Moules Mariniere with Guinness bread and chips. The Sauce was creamy and seasoned nicely with the fresh parsley. The Muscles perfectly cooked. Service was brilliant with a warm welcome. Lovely views of the church and village in the conservatory. Bar area is warmly snug with the open fireplace. Good range of drinks. I do recommend. Thank you.

We come back every year (and should come more often) because we're never disappointed. The food is great every time; the venison wellington is perfect... Look no further than a glass of red and this beaut. They looked after our daughter with a nice main and I'd recommend the vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce... just don't let your kids have all the sauce and save yourself some for a little sip to end the dinner. It's a proper, real choccie sauce. Nice atmosphere today with friendly conversations with guests and staff to top a lovely experience off.

First visit for several years and though I had good memories, I was hugely disappointed. Though it was Tuesday lunchtime it was very very quiet. Ordered the Fish and Chips, and though it took a promisingly long time to come, the fish was inedible - soggy to the point of being wet, while the batter was pale and tasteless. Left it. Pointed this out when asked by waitress, but didn’t ask for any sort of reduction. The reaction was to take £2 off the £16.50 price, which added insult to injury, to be honest. Not a great experience.

A massive thank you to the chefs and team at the falcon for putting out such an excellent service. 🍽️👏🏾

A very disappointing experience. Firstly, we were served complimentary bread which was served completely hot and very clearly microwaved - it was also quite inedible as it was very tough and near enough impossible to eat, quite possibly because it had been microwaved for so long. Our starters were okay, with the nicest part being olives, however the roast lamb was also well below average and didn't live up to expectation. We didn't bother with desserts as they had sold out of half of them (it was a sunday early lunchtime) and the table next to us had an nightmare ordering them which resulted in their desserts coming out at different times. Service was okay, however very slow considering we were only 1 of 3 tables in the restaurant - although this could be explained by the fact that there was only one member of staff to be seen. Overall very disappointed as the reviews we had read had been good.

As locals, we have eaten at The Falcon many a time over the years mainly, but not always, being perfectly happy with the food and service. However, our last visit was a real disappointment. Usually the bar and restaurant are busy and the atmosphere convivial, especially on a Friday, but when we arrived, apart from a large noisy family do in the conservatory (we decided to eat in the bar) there were only a couple of other tables occupied. By 8.30pm all the tables apart from one other and the bar itself were completely empty so the whole place was eerily quiet. Given this and that there were only three of us (7pm arrival) the service was iffy (very slow to even bring us the menus, ordering water which never arrived etc) but most importantly, the meal itself was generally underwhelming. I asked if I could have the duck well cooked - no, only as it comes, pink; the beef dish (pretentiously called Pecanha which on questioning, the waitress described as a hunk of cow!) could only be served medium rare. What we did order in the end was generally uninspiring. There are plenty of other good restaurants in the area so I’m afraid we wont be in any hurry to return to the Falcon.

The chef was awesome and he exceeded expectations with the food. Five stars quality food. Our guests were happy. However, regarding customer service and service delivery received from the Assistant manager Jen was disappointing and awful. The Falcon Inn is an old pub with character situated in a quiet village. The O was chosen as the perfect venue for our celebration. Unfortunately the Assistant manager 'Jen' turned it into one of the worst days I could not have imagined. From taking my nonrefundable deposit and misselling the service they could provide for my special day. I was promised music for my 20 guests upon arrival. There was none, no apology or willingness from Jen to resolve. The entertainers for my kids and guests were told they were too loud, disrupting the pub customers. She blamed the wifi connectivity issue on my guests. The night before I came to setup. She assured me help would be provided, by herself or staff. Not the case. We tested the speakers and connected to the wifi fine. Even moved the speakers from the kitchen to the event room and it worked fine. On the day nothing worked and Jen blamed it on us. Would I go back, for the food yes. To see Jen again, no.

Staff were very nice serving drinks, but when it comes to food, it was poor. We were a table of 6 and another table of 3, so not busy the entire evening. Starters were good (if a little small for price) and had high hopes. Main course took an age to come out and had to ask as to when we'd expect it. When it did come out, it was cold and items were missing, which when questioned, they did apologise and brought out though weren't great. My wife asked for the rosemary chips, she got standard chips. Didn't want to bring it up as we were all fed up by this point. Overall nice setting, just think they didn't have enough staff.

Really outstanding food and great surroundings. Willing and friendly staff. BUT service was ‘chaotic’. Was a guest so not too bothered but embarrassed for our hosts. Bits and pieces requested but staff had to be reminded(Hand towels in toilets, no toilet roll, no forks for cake, sauce for mains turned up late). Not overly busy when we visited. Would only have knocked off half a star but that’s not possible. Worth a visit for the food but have to be patient.!

Although our food took a short while to arrive, it was one of the best lunches we have ever enjoyed. The pub has a smallish garden to the side of the property and a lovely restaurant area too but we ate in the bar area. The falcon is situated in a stunning village close to a breathtaking church and the long distance Nene way path. The castle remains are a 5 minutes walk and the river nene is just behind the pub. There is a camping and caravan plot by the castle remains so somewhere for the campers to visit. Overall really impressed with this pub.....

Opening hours are disappointing. Turned up in Fotheringhay on a Sunday after a long day looking forward to a quiet beer in a nice pub. To my horror upon arrival I discovered that it was closed at 5pm. Are we living in medieval times where people have to be back home and shut in after lunch on Sunday? It’s still light outside and the pub has been closed for two hours now. Might be nice inside, no idea as the doors were locked.

My friend had been before and said the food was great but on this occasion I'm afraid it wasn't for me. We had the 3 snacks off the bar menu which were good to be fair. They didn't have the bao buns so we ordered tempura cauliflower, chicken/katsu sauce and the rhubarb & chilli sausage roll( which was huge). I then had chicken ballotine, a bit tough and the so called coriander oil and peanut sauce were both watery and tasteless. The steak from the bar menu that my friend had was fine but we both expected more. However we enjoyed the snug area round the back with its own bar and the friendly staff were good. I will visit again when I'm in the area.
