I’m only giving this a 4 because the room and location were really good. The rooms were situated behind the pub, with each room having their own front door. There was a lake and seating area to relax. The rooms were done to a really good standard with what looked like a new bathroom with big shower. However, breakfast was a different story. We waited 40 minutes for a full English breakfast to be cooked, but when it arrived, the mushrooms were cold, the sausage was over cooked and the fried egg was hard. We ate it because we had waited so long and had to be somewhere else, so didn’t have time to wait for it to be cooked again. There was very little communication between the staff and us.

As a local pub the new owners are doing a good job of offering good food at sensible prices and now putting on events which is great news for a village pub.

Very friendly greeting. Warm & welcoming staff. One of my top 3 WORLDWIDE visits for notable ambiance in the middle of nowhere. Unplaned stay in their River Suite. Woke up to the sound of Canadian Geese on the bank of the Nene River just outside the bedroom window. Absolutely must for a revisit.

Really lovely pub situated in a gorgeous country village. Very friendly and cosy with good hearty food. The rooms are a little tired but this is reflected in the price. The room we had was warm, comfortable and had a lovely shower. I believe the owners are new, so hopefully in time they will improve the rooms, as it has the potential to be absolutely wonderful. Lots of very pretty towns and villages nearby and we did some nice walks in the surrounding countryside. We also visited the Lyveden National Trust which was fab for the children to have a good run around.

We thought we would try out the Queens-head as it’s under new management, we arrived to a cold pub ( no roaring fire that the QH is renowned for) staff didn’t seem particularly happy and didn’t seem to know what they were doing, someone tried several times to get the fire going and finally succeeded only to let it go out!!! We chose to sit in the bar area to eat but really think that we should’ve opted for the restaurant as we seemed to get forgotten, service was painfully slow and we spent over 3 hours in the pub, we were given the menus and no less than 3 minutes later the waitress came to take our order, we had to ask her to come back, however the starters of mushrooms on toast and goats cheese were plentiful and lovely but then it went downhill, we waited a good half an hour for the next course, the roast beef and turkey were good but the pork was so tough and fatty that I couldn’t eat it, the vegetables were raw, I think they’d only seen the pan for a minute, we asked for horseradish and apple sauce which never arrived, a check call was made within a minute of us receiving our meals, desserts didn’t seem homemade as it says on the menu, all in all disappointing, we like to support local businesses and we wouldn’t not go back but it won’t be anytime soon as management need to sort out a few teething problems, good luck to you all, we will be your biggest fans but good food and customer service is paramount for us

Having been in the doldrums for a long time, the new owners have to build up local confidence again. Fortunately, it was a pleasure to be warmly welcomed in this classic country pub. We chose from a simple lunch menu, and the quality was excellent, as was the NVB draught ale. Let’s hope they have a busy Christmas , and a profitable future.

Friends said this place was under new management and we should give it a go ... we did, but I'd advise you to wait to try it for a while as it's not firing-on-all-cylinders at the moment. It was busy in the pub area when we arrived, and got left at the bar for 5mins as the 2 young waiters argued where to seat us. Once seated, the menu had a limited choice of nice sounding pub dishes. I went for stewed beef. Our order was taken and there we sat for an hour ... I chased the waiter and he brought out 2 of our dishes, then a third one. Two of those were cold (both food and plate) so we sent them back to be warmed up. When they eventually came back they were much hotter and tasty, but minus the broccoli :-( After that the final meal arrived on our table of 4, so we all ate at different times and not together. The chef did apologise for the service on the night, but frankly they need to get there act together and provide much better service as it's nowhere near up to scratch at the moment for the price charged.

Upon calling to book a table for two people, I was told 8pm was the earliest they could accommodate as they were “fully booked” that evening. On arrival bar staff very pleasant and showed us to our table (I may add was 30 mins “earlier “ than allocated time booked ) !! When we walked into the dining area it was empty and the only other diners were those of a private party of 16 in the private dining area adjacent to restaurant. Alarm bells were ringing at the empty restaurant , especially when told they were “fully booked that evening” . Once sat down we were handed the menu and we’re asked if we’d care to order straightaway as soon they would by serving the group of 16 so would mean a longer wait time !! Surely a proper functioning restaurant/gastro pub or even just a pub diner, can cope with more than 16 covers, if not they should not of accepted our booking. At this point we should of left as it felt like we were about to be in a race as to who got their meals ordered first ! Not something you should experience when eating out in a restaurant. Food choices:- We both chose the garlic mushroom and white wine cream sauce to start, served on a toasted tiger loaf slice of bread. The bread was only toasted on one side and the mushrooms were served on top, so any sauce on the dish was immediately soaked up. I personally do not like soggy bread and assumed the starter would come with it served on the side. The sauce, the little bit that was left on plate after being soaked up into the bread, was tasteless, weak and void of any flavour. Not even a smidgen of garlic flavour was detected. Mains ordered was a 12oz ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce and came with mushrooms, onion rings, side salad & chips. The other main ordered was a mushroom linguine with a creamy spinach sauce & option to add chicken breast (which I did). To be fair the steak was cooked nice (requested medium) as were the chips, however the onion rings were wet/soggy , side salad dressed in oil and the peppercorn sauce …..well if you want a whole jar of crushed peppercorn in a sauce then fine , but we found this too overpowering, The steak was served on a bed on mushrooms that had been chopped into quarters (very much like the mushrooms served in starter and linguine dish) / unusual, as most steaks nowadays are served with a grilled field flat mushroom. There was also a huge thick glob of balsamic dressing on the plate (assume this was meant for the oil covered salad?) Shame as if you don’t like balsamic you’ve had it as it was already there on the plate ! The mushroom linguine had the same chopped mushrooms and bland sauce that the garlic mushroom starter had. Pasta was starchy and mushrooms bland, and the sauce (what there was of it) was void of any flavour. Creamy spinach I think the description said, well there was about 5 spinach leaves folded into dish which hadn’t even wilted into the dish. The added chicken came sliced with a leg bone in one part. This was the same chicken that I saw being served as chicken supreme dish. Skin still on and not crispy and like I mentioned bone left in. All in all terrible food, so much so that I sent the linguine dish back uneaten. The staff had the good Grace to deduct the linguine dish from bill, however they overcharged me for the ribeye by £11.50. When I questioned this I was told “oops sorry the only steak dish in the computer is a fillet steak @ £40. Slightly worrying that when the only steak on the menu is the ribeye at £28.50 !!!! I think it goes without saying, the Queens Head Nassington will not be a place I’ll be visiting again, nor recommend if asked.

I'm writing this review as the owner of the Queens Head hasn't replied to my letter of complaint sent two weeks ago. Our two friends and ourselves booked for two nights after looking at the lovely 4 star country inn photographs. Sad to say we were really disappointed. Room 1 - shabby decor, musty smell, shower a foot off the ground with mouldy grout and awful sealant. The shower ran cold. The chalet was in need of a complete refurb. Room 3 - lukewarm shower but water would not run away and the whole en-suite smelt of sewage. What was the scuttling and scratching overhead in the early hours? Ugh! On Sunday at 8am my husband asked to speak to the owner but was told he was on holiday in Cornwall (I hope he had better accommodation than we did)! Someone went to get 'the person in charge' out of bed. My husband complained and the shower temperature was eventually sorted but I couldn't face the thought of using it as it was so gross. Our friend's shower continued to be luke warm and blocked. That evening I overheard the same person telling the locals that he had been woken up at 8am and he seemed to think it was funny! Dining - Saturday evening there was a limited menu unlike the extensive one on the website. It was mainly burgers, steak and chicken plus a veggie dish. The steak was excellent, the chips were good, the rest mediocre. At breakfast there was no soya milk, no fruit, scrambled eggs were rubbery and served on toast with no butter. On the plus side I did appreciate the lovely gluten-free toast at breakfast, gluten-free rolls with my burger and for Saturday lunch on arrival gluten-free tuna mayo roll although the tuna mayo was rather wet. The bar and waiting staff were pleasant, cheerful and courteous - thanks for that. AA 4* you must be joking!

My husband and I met up with two friends, having booked directly for two nights. Rooms - room 1 had shabby decor, manky carpet and a shower that was a foot off the ground. The tiles had dirty and mouldy grout, the tray had bits of wood around the edges with poorly applied sealant. The shower itself ran either cold or cold! The chalet as a whole felt damp and cold and in need of a complete refurbishment. Our friends in room 3 had a lukewarm shower but also found the shower water didn't run away and the 'en suite' smelt of sewage. All of us were unhappy to hear some animal/creature scuttling overhead in the early hours Ugh! The following morning my husband asked for the boss and was told he was on holiday in Cornwall (I hope he had better accommodation than we did)! The duty manager was called and he said he would take a look. Our shower water was eventually fixed but to be honest I couldn't face using it as it was so gross! Our friends shower continued to be lukewarm and blocked. Later that evening I overheard the same duty manager telling the locals that he had been woken up at 8am that morning to sort out a customer's cold shower - he seemed to think it was funny! We let it go as we still had to eat breakfast the following morning! Dining - Saturday evening had a limited menu - the website menu was much longer. The steak and chips were excellent, the rest mediocre. Waffles and sticky toffee pudding were okay. Breakfast - no soya milk only cows milk, no fruit. Scrambled eggs rubbery and served on toast with no butter. On the plus side lovely gluten free toast. I would give this establishment 2 stars - one for the roof overhead and the other for the gluten free toast! Don't stay here!!

Small family lunch to celebrate my osrtners 50th birthday. We have eaten here many times so were looking forward to eating outside with such lovely weather. There was a limited menu because two of the main options was not available. I had a burger and chips which was ok. The other 3 of us had maple glazed bacon chop. It came with fat chips which looked great but a little pot of peas that held maybe 15 peas. A fried egg that was over cooked and a huge amount of fat around the chop that wasn't cooked/grilled enough to make it inedible. We only had churros for dessert. The chocolate sauce they came with can only be described as a tiny cup of 'hot chocolate'. These were served by a guy from the kitchen win chef whites, which were absolutely filthy all over. He returned later and asked if the food was ok. We said just that - it was ok thanks. And paid and left. We can only assume that there has been a change of management. The food was so very dissapointing and we shall be looking elsewhere for a family lunch out.

Last time we had a Tomahawk between us but this time we decided to have an individual 12 oz Ribeye each. Quality of the meat and the way in which it was cooked were flawless. We booked for lunch. When we went in there were only two others eating. The lobby was dirty and untidy and despite being “next to the river” the pub is without atmosphere, right on the road. A mop & bucket was leant against the wall outside. The waitress (Melissa?) was pleasant and welcoming asking us where we would prefer to sit. If it had been warmer, we would have gladly eaten down by the river than in the empty restaurant. First choice of beer (Ghost Ship) was not available. The fresh fish dishes mentioned on the website were not on the lunch menu, unless you count tinned tuna or frozen scampi as a fresh fish dish! It was a birthday treat, so disappointed but chose other dishes instead. The Harisa GlazedHalloumi skewer did not come with any olives and only a few shards of rocket - not the mixed leaves mentioned. The “flat bread” was only the size of a side plate and like something uncooked out of a packet. Certainly not big enough to be any use. Very poor for £16.50 Only one Miso & Maple Aubergine arrived as the trainee chef had not read the ticket. It was apparently the chefs day off! IThe Aubergine was undercooked and was more about the tabouleh than anything else on the plate. When the second one arrived some time later it was still raw, so it was sent back. As everyone else were nearly done, a quicker replacement dish was ordered. The Lincolnshire Sausages in a freshly baked Ciabatta with fried onions, home made coleslaw and skin on fries. Let’s re-word that… some non-descript sausages, cut in half in a stale (tough) ciabatta, a few limp onion bits, grated carrot (no slaw) and ordinary but crispy chips, which strangely were the best part of the meal! They were not skin on! The waitress tried hard but clearly the kitchen was useless. The so called chef should have come out to apologise but didn’t. Goodness knows how this establishment copes if it’s ever a busy lunchtime! It’s meant to have a reputation for dry aged chargrilled steaks. There wasn’t any sort of steak on the menu! I know I can do delicious sausages, peas, chips and gravy for under a fiver at home. Here you’ll be disappointed to pay £13.50 and around £15 for a burger without a salad. So healthy! It took 15 minutes to get our coffees. The order was wrong (problems with the milk machine?) and the best you could say is that they were hot. Even Costa or McD can do better coffe, faster! Now admittedly we were not charged for some of the meal, but actually I resented paying even what we did for what we were served. As we were leaving, someone from one of their “cottages” was also complaining. Be warned, this is not a go to pub if you want A. a good meal or B. value for money. In fact, I felt so sorry for the American cyclists who just arrived to stay there, I’d say “Don’t bother!” There are plenty of better pubs around!

This was a meal for 10 people on an outing. The initial email contact was answered promptly but 2 further emails went unanswered necessitating follow-up phone calls although these were both fielded professionally and reassuringly. The menu on the website is only an example (it does say so on the PDF but could be clearer on the website) but effort had been made to provide the selected meals which had been chosen in advance and which were no longer on the current menu. The bar staff were very helpful and engaged well with the customers, especially the young lady who was a real credit to the establishment. The chef was also very well spoken. The food was good but I am glad mine did not arrive on a bread board, as some did (I though this fad had stopped). Personally I felt the prices were slightly on the steep side but then I am a (new) pensioner. The meal rounded off our meeting well and the surroundings were bright and pleasant. There is ample parking.

We didn’t think we’d get in on the Saturday before Christmas, especially without booking in advance, so we were pleasantly surprised we got a table at half an hour’s notice. We’ve always been attracted by the Queen’s Head’s steak offerings, and upon seeing the Cotes de Boeuf, we had to give it a try. 1.6kg of bone-in rib steak (approx 56 oz) for 2 to share (enough for 3 or even 4 to be honest). Grilled to perfection, using a Spanish Josper charcoal grill (only 30 in the country, including Gordon Ramsey’s and Heston Blumenthal’s). Unfortunately we couldn’t manage a starter or a desert. Lovely setting, excellent service, very friendly staff. Would wholeheartedly recommend and will be back soon.

Stayed here for a treat to get away from the kids, we picked this place as it was a gastro pub with rooms attached. The staff were really good can’t fault them, The menu from a vegetarian point of view was a bit of a let down, this was due to the only veg main being a vegan burger. I ordered it bitterly as I hate vegan burgers, however It was excellent and I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the pub and the restaurant. The rooms however let the whole experience down, from the outside the accommodation looks sort of romantic but upon entering the room we were greeted with mould on the walls in the main room and the room smelt musty and damp. The smell wasn’t overpowering and didn’t affect a good nights sleep but it was there. There was black mould spots on the ceiling in the bathroom. Me and the wife kept debating whether the mould was treated or not as it wasn’t uninhabitable but it was unsightly at the very least. The room was dated but cozy the bed was really comfortable. The biggest let down was the mould.

Visited after a morning walk in the beautiful Northamptonshire countryside for lunch. Very nice pub with good service. Only one real ale on tap due to the previous bank holiday and two weddings taking place. However, the Nene valley brewery pint was well kept and was probably the pint of choice anyway. Normally it would appear that there are at least three real ales on tap. Lunch for me was a fish finger sandwich with mayonnaise and my friend had salt beef sandwich. The fish fingers were in fact fish goujons and very tasty. The pub is on the banks of the river Nene which is an added bonus and there are a number of chalet rooms for those who wish to spend a holiday in the area situated between the pub and the river. Altogether a fantastic place to visit. Apparently it is on the market at the moment so let's hope a new owner is found who will maintain the exceptional standards.

We had our friend up from Devon who has introduced us to some amazing pubs down there and we thought we could show him a few nice pubs in the local area. So we went to the Queen's Head. Had two rounds of beer and sat down by the river keeping ourselves to ourselves until last orders had been declared. (We didn't know as we were outside down by the river). My friend and I went back to the bar for a 'beer for the road'and were told by the polite bar man that last orders had been called. One of the punters, a young boy, then decided to pipe up and say that if my friend gave the barman oral sex then he would get a beer. At this point myself, my partner and our friend from Devon were extremely offended. The barman didn't have anything to say in the matter and neither did the three other punters at the bar.

This was the second meal we have had here, and again...absolutely delicious, I had a fillet of take, and hubby had steak, cooked and presenter to perfection!!! Young lad who served us was new, great customer service, the only thing what we felt a little strange, was upon entering on a Saturday afternoon the gentleman who greeted and served us who we believe to be the landlord,,advised us we would have to eat in bar as no room in resturant, within a few minutes of us ordering walked to different sets of customers who were greeted by a female, none of which were booked, were both told to follow through to restaurant plenty of room, yet we were not allowed, it did not make sense.

A lovely old building in a nice village setting. Pleasant decor, comfortable restaurant. A reasonably extensive menu but with only 2 vegetarian options. Quite a good wine list but not a great selection of reds. Our food was excellent, both mains and desserts. The evening was let down by the less than professional service. Please, please employ and train real waiting staff! Guests get frustrated and will be put off returning.

It's a pretty much standard English pub. The restaurant is a nice surprise, thou. The felafel with tomato and hummus is a good appetizer in an english-revised version of the original Lebaneese recipe. Above average the classic fish and chips. Good also the chicken teryaki. Very good the white chocolate raspberry semifreddo. Very confortable location.

We attended this meal+entertainment event with four friends. The idea was that we would feel as if we were eating in René’s restaurant from the TV series Allo Allo. The small troupe of actors performed their parts very well. They represented the characters admirably and involved the audience (us diners) in such things as hiding the stolen painting of The Fallen Madonna With The Big Boobies, inside a German sausage, which got mixed up with a bomb hidden inside a German sausage and a wireless set, hidden inside a German sausage, amongst other things. You get the picture. The acting was very enjoyable. Our only criticism here was that René’s, bit on the side, Yvette, who played a prominent role in the TV series, was sadly not represented.

The Queens Head, for us is simply the best. Its a wonderful get a way for us. It has a delicious menu, with food that is always cooked and presented beautifully. The staff are second to non, always polite and professional. The lodges are ideally situated close by and the views are wonderful. My husband and I have visited around 10 times now, treating two of our friends for their birthday. If you get chance to meet Paul, the owner, he is a delightful man with a wonderful Irish charm who will have you smiling and feeling like you have just walked into your own home. Nothing is to much trouble for any of the staff. We cant wait to visit you all again in 2018. Thankyou for looking after us and continuing to offer a wonderful value for money menu and accommodation. Visited here the first time in March after hearing they had awards for food (maybe in the past). This was on a Monday and the guy behind the bar is very friendly and welcoming. The food wasn't too bad just under seasoned ...homemade which is what counts in some cases but could do with a little extra love and the server poorly recommended the fish and chips as the batter was not to my liking ..was more like Chinese chicken ball batter but was not inedible . Anyway ..our second visit again on a Monday, bank holiday. Friendly welcome and the same guy remembered us, slightly busier we decided to sit in the restaurant and ordered bread which came out straight away. Lovely bread but hard butter which we all know can be stressful.

I do not eat meat, dairy or eggs, so when I go to eat out, it's important that I can check the menu before I commit. I stayed in Wansford this weekend and having scouted around, I found what looked like some really nice options for dinner at the Queen's Head. Unfortunately when I got there, it became apparent that the menu online was out of date, and there was nothing on the current menu that I could eat. After having been stung for £15 taxi fare for a 2 mile trip, there was no way to get anywhere else (since there are no cashpoints in the village to get any more money from!)

We booked for Sunday lunch recently and unfortunately will probably not book again. The staff who served us were pleasant enough but we had the feeling of being talked down to which was frustrating. They did not appear to have any knowledge of the menu..the couple of questions I asked were met with "I'll just go and ask" and then answers repeated parrot fashion with clearly no idea what they were talking about. Is it not basic restaurant practise for staff to know the menu?..particularly when the questions were only about the Sunday roasts! It felt like we had 12 year olds serving. Sadly when the food came...it was just "ok".
