I brought along a group of staff and students from Surrey Maths School for an informal social session, to help the students get to know one another and build their community. The Hideaway was perfect! We booked the meeting room so we had enough privacy but were also able to enjoy the lovely cafe area as well as the beautiful outdoor spaces. The food and drinks were delicious; several of the students discovered the smoothies and raved about them! The atmosphere was warm, friendly and welcoming, and we couldn't be happier that we chose The Hideaway for this important event in our school calendar. We will definitely be back & in the meantime, THANK YOU to Leah & the Hideaway team for making our afternoon so special.
What an amazing place, over the last year I've tried all the cafes in tavistock and this is by far the best.
Home cooked food at its best, the quiches and cakes are to die for.
They use local ingredients to support other local businesses which is really important to me.
If you're taking the kids then the grazing platters are brilliant.
The coffee is fantastic, and you get a proper sized cup.
The little things really add up here and it's cracking value for the taste and quality of the food.
a disappointing experience. given the instructions that I can find the best ragu here, it was not even close to my expectations as a chef. I took a portion for two people. the meat ball was tasteless, a pork sausage too small for one person, the bread very hard (I think it was very old), insufficient taste in the sauce. I would not return to this restaurant.

My son recommended this restaurant, while I met up with him in London. Definitely a meat lovers heaven! Wow the meat just keeps coming out, delicious steaks on skewers, sliced at your table. The choice of meat is amazing, there is a full salad plate on the table as well. The service is spot on,you are informed on every offing,I personally liked the roast lamb and the lamb sausages.when you are eventually full, you just put the card on the table and they stop bringing food to you. A very busy restaurant, but well staffed and very professionally run. Not too expensive, just under £125 that includes a decent bottle of wine and service charge. I will definitely be back before the end of the year. 10/10
Highly recommended from me. Everything was spot on for a casual Saturday morning catch up
- location is good as there is a cheap car parking around the corner - just one street away
- atmosphere was good, they had no music but there was lots of hustle and bustle throughout the busy Saturday trade
- I would say the food was amazing too in both taste and look as well as size.. Portions are massive as I wasn't expecting so much but a lovely surprise when it arrived
- I really enjoyed my matcha latte, it was just right for me and I would come back just for this too!
- Staff are attentive, even though it was busy, they were focus on the customers and were happy to help with anything as I could see them helping everyone who asked for their assistance, I love that
- There are a range of seating options, outside seating front and back, and then inside seating. Nicely spaced tables too as don't feel that you are sat with the next table so again, massive ticks from me
I saw some delicious looking items coming out of the kitchen so there is no doubt that I will be coming here again to try something else on the menu!
Had a lovely lunch, the staff were so friendly, the food was tasty and well presented.
I enjoyed it so much I would go back again, in fact I did the day after!.
Wonderfully tasty food in a cafe that is beautifully arranged and welcoming. Great coffee, service with a smile and dog friendly. Look forward to many future visits.
Excelente servicio, encantador café y pastel, la comida siempre es agradable con una buena opción, una buena gama de bebidas. Agradable ambiente relajante en la zona cómoda, y los perros son bienvenidos
