06/01/2018: We found the greeting from the staff quite judgemental and unfriendly as we tried to get a table after visiting Musselburgh races . The restaurant was empty apart from 2 diners and we were told it was fully booked. We had popped in to try it as we used to work in North Berwick and were having a short break at The Marine Hotel . We will continue to visit Bella Italia where the staff are warm and welcoming.

17/01/2018: Booked here based on reviews and wanting a fine dining experience in Edinburgh. Lovely reception, Had drinks in the lounge and enjoyed some delightful appetizers while perusing the menu. We decided on the 7 course set menu. Were led to the table which was lovely. Discussed wine selections with the sommelier and settled on a bottle of lovely Rhone red. Bread was served and the amuses bouches and courses started arriving. Descriptions were offered as well. Lovely smoked salmon, and foie gras.. Service was just slightly off insofar as we had to repeatedly request that water glasses be filled, bread replenished. Serving staff was lovely but just not quite up to matching the food. Exquisite monkfish and beef courses. We decided to go for the optional cheese course. Knowledgeable server put together a plate for us. But, he failed to offer a port, etc. Nor did the sommelier bother with us at all after presenting the wine a couple of hours before. We would have loved a little something with which to finish the meal but felt we sholdn't have to flag someone down. Water glasses not filled automatically, had to keep asking. This is a pet peeve of mine. Maybe we were spoiled by our experience at the Ledbury in London the previous week, but we didn't think the service was up to snuff for this type of restaurant. Food was very good but nothing really had that wow factor. Maybe an off night, the dining room was slow. Still, a great meal just fell a little short of our expectations.
15/01/2018: Having dined at The Number One several times over the past decade I felt it was time I wrote a review!Last night the 14th of January my husband and I decided to try the seven course Tasting Menu with wines which we had never done before and what an experience.From arriving at the restaurant to leaving all the staff go out of their way to make your evening a relaxing and memorable one.Everyone involved in serving the food knows exactly what is on the plate and take time to explain what ingredients are in the dish.The same applies to the Sommeliers whose knowledge of the wines being served with each course is amazing.The front of house staff are extremely professional and always looking out to see what is required by each of the guests whilst not being too intrusive.Having spent many years teaching Hospitality it is a delight to see such high standards in a restaurant.It must make the Chefs who prepare such attractive and excellent food feel good to know that the guests can really enjoy the many varied dishes having had them explained by the staff.I feel often all the effort put into the preparation and cooking of food is spoiled by front of house staff whose skills in serving are extremely poor.Not so here,highly trained staff who always have time for a chat throughout the evening!We have eaten in some Michelin Star restaurants in France but The Number one surpasses them in all areas of a dining experience.Congratulations to all members of staff at The Number One as far as we are concerned it is Number One and are so pleased that as we stay in Fife we are only half an hour away.Off now to book a table for June can't wait!

09/01/2018: Booked for a special dinner date with my partner and enjoyed ourselves. We love the idea of the ingredients displayed on the board and the selection of the ingredients and really enjoyed the wine pairing. In fact, we found the wine pairing to be the most impressive part of the experience.

18/01/2018: I really enjoyed my meal here!! I went for their set menu which was outstanding value. I would recommend it to anyone looking to have a special night! The highlight was the gnocchi, which was really well seasoned! I was underwhelmed by the service. The woman who served us seemed disinterested and quite frankly, couldn't really care less about what she was doing. For a restaurant that lacks so highly in Edinburgh, I was surprised. However, based on the food alone and the price, I will definitely return.
17/01/2018: Every time we visit Edinburgh we always visit this small but beautiful restaurant. Why? Because their lamb rump signature dish is sensational. The staff are too. Our visit there was the day after they had been closed over New Year. Lamb wasn't going to be on their menu the night of our visit but they ordered it in specially for us. All four of us tucked into our lamb rump which was tender, juicy and pink with a jus which was so good we asked for, and got, more. We had lamb rump on our first visit and truth to tell we have never had any of their other main dish offerings. But other diners appear to eat their different choices with the same obvious relish as we eat our lamb.

18/01/2018: Came here with my wife on Monday 15th Jan while on a 3 day trip to Edinburgh. We came as a result of the trip advisor reviews. Got to say we loved every minute of it. The beer/wine/cheese boards were great. The bar was cosy and very relaxing. The 2 female staff members were polite and very friendly. The wine bar is small and quickly filled up so turn up earlier rather than later to get a table. Everyone looked like they were having a great time until a middle aged man drinking with the believed owner and another man at the bar suddenly crashed down backwards so hard into a table occupied by a young couple. To say he'd had a few was an understatement. !!. Couple deserved a drink on the house!! We didn't let this spoil our night and fully enjoyed our experience of Pickles. Thing is if you like wine/cheese/pate/meats and pickles it's a perfect combination. Oh one small constructive point. You get a lot of bread with your cheeses and the only other option are oat cakes. Maybe another couple of harder biscuits choices for the cheese and toasted bread with the pate?? oh and a home made scotch egg on the board would be heaven.
12/01/2018: Definitely the place to have the best glass of wine and to taste an amazing plate of cheese & meat. They are all so nice and so friendly. We had the best time there !

15/01/2018: We enjoyed our evening here at this authentic italian restaurant. Very small location, so remember to book in advance. Nothing fancy, but well cooked pasta and seafood.

16/01/2018: As many will booked purely on TA ratings and booked long time ahead. Decided to push the boat out and go for the 7 course taster menu. It was very good all courses bar the beef were excellent , but very small . The beef was disappointing and chewy. With a bottle of wine and two glasses of red the bill came to £175. That's a huge amount of money and when soupy that amount more than often you feel slightly disappointed and expect so much. Purslane is a lovely cosy restaurant seating just twenty and the staff are a delight. In hindsight wish we'd gone for the A la Carte because looking at other dishes coming out they looked much more sensible portions and delightfully presented , as was our food, just so small. Still recommended just plan your visit and how much you're prepared to pay
15/01/2018: 予約が難しいレストランなのは知っており 私達の結婚記念日に行きました。洗っていないパン皿、シャンパンはメジャーカップに測り出され泡が無くなっているので、新しいシャンパンを頂きました。私が口を付けたシャンパンはボトルに戻していたのに衝撃を受けました。オーダーしたメニューも覚えておらず、誰が何を食べたかも、会計には書かれておらず どんぶり勘定で ダブル料金の明細を見て驚きました。店員さんもテキトーで、せっかくの記念日が台無しです。もう二度度行く事は無いでしょう。私は 色んな世界のミシュランへ行きますが レストランで絶対にしてはいけない行動に言葉を失いました。

11/01/2018: This magnificent restaurant at the incomparable Preston Field House is always a destination stop when on holiday in Edinburgh. My recent dining experience was delightful. My sirloin steak, tender and savoury, was made even more delicious with the peppercorn sauce. The thrice-cooked French friend potatoes were crisp, hot, and tender inside. Service was impeccable. We were given a warm reception by the manager and recognized as return guests.
08/01/2018: Luogo stupendo, nobile ed elegante. Arredato in maniera adeguata e consona. Personale meraviglioso e camerieri educati e disponibili. Una cameriera italiana decisamente preparata e gradevole.....dolci da altissima pasticceria...........con un gel al rabarbaro....semplicemente favoloso. Forse si chiamava Giocondo o qualcosa di simile ma sublime. Bravi e complimenti......

17/01/2018: We read great reviews about this place but were a little skeptical when we saw the front of the building. But don't let that fool you - the sit-down restaurant is in the back. The service was great and the food was delicious. Four of us got a platter for 4, a salad and an appetizer. We had enough food to take back to our hotel and eat the next morning.
16/01/2018: 我們在Edinburgh 大雪紛飛 又冷又餓的 上網隨意搜尋了餐廳 就直接前往 menu其實寫得很詳細 但餓到無法思考 菜單多到不知道要點什麼 沒有概念 就隨意點了三樣 天啊 超好吃 羊肉烤得軟嫩 沒騷味 pitta餅也很香 重點是 三樣才£13.45 完全是天使級價格啊!大推

18/01/2018: We booked a birthday treat - lunch at The Kitchin! Once again the food was excellent. Watching the chefs perfecting their craft from the comfort of our seats resulted in pure art on our plates! Lovely touches were the complimentary fresh baked bread, the carrot veloute and the berry granita!We opted for the a la carte menu and the whole three course meal was outstanding.The restaurant is also welcoming and warm, and very comfortable. Eating at The Kitchin is always a fabulous occasion!
17/01/2018: Gorgeous, warm dining room with an open kitchen so you can watch the chefs cook set the scene for a gorgeous meal. I did the three course set lunch which can sometimes play second fiddle when a restaurant also offers a tasting menu but I was not disappointed. Each dish was cooked to perfection and full of great flavour combinations. Add to this the buzzy atmosphere and you have a place that is also great fun.Dinner was finished by drinks in the bar which were excellent and despite us staying until people arrived for dinner we were not forced out made to feel unwelcome. An excellent, well run restaurant. I will be back!

15/01/2018: Been meaning to go to Roseleaf for years and finally made it for Sunday brunch. Good quantities of food and helpful staff (tasty juices too). We had been told that we had the table for 2 hours from our booking but ended up going slightly beyond the 2 hours and being asked to leave - through no fault of our own as the food didn't arrive until well over an hour into our booked time. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5
10/01/2018: ...wenn ich in Edingburgh leben würde. Wir waren am 31.12. zu Besuch, trotz Aufbauarbeiten vor Hogmanay hat sich die Bedienung viel Zeit für uns genommen.Das Essen war fatastisch, liebevoll zubereitet, einfach lecker und frisch. Die Drinks waren sehr individuell, selbstgemachter Apfelsaft und Home made lemonade, die Bierauswahl war auch sehr gut.Das Lokal hat definitiv seine 5 Sterne verdient! Wir kommen gerne wieder Vielen Dank für den schönen Jahresabschluss bei Euch!

17/01/2018: Fui varias veces cuando vivía en Edimburgo. Restaurante acogedor, moderno pero manteniendo la esencia Italiana. La comida excelente, sobretodo los ravioles rellenos de calabaza, deliciosos!. Le cozze una maravilla, así como las bruschetta de queso.Las pizzas finas, se nota que están elaboradas por un verdadero italiano.El trato inmejorable, excelente. Muy recomendable!
12/01/2018: We've eaten here two or three times over multiple trips and absolutely loved the diverse menu, food quality and friendly, knowledgeable staff. It's not in the city center but the short cab ride is worth every penny. No doubt a local favorite and the reasons are obvious.


Bramble Bar & Lounge

15/01/2018: Bramble really lived up to our expectations as the best cocktail bar in Edinburgh. My boyfriend is a big cocktail enthusiast and even he was impressed by the uniqueness and wide variety of drinks they had here! The atmosphere of the bar was nice as well, we were able to find a small nook where we cuddled and had our drinks. It was very cozy and nice to be able to talk and still hear each other over the music. Our server was also attentive and super friendly. The only downside is that Bramble is a bit hard to find (it’s hidden downstairs with no visible signage) but overall, definitely worth visiting if you’re in town!
13/01/2018: We must have walked past Bramble 2 or 3 times before we finally found it. It is down some stairs and the only think marking its existence is a small brass plaque by the door. It is very hard to find but persevere because it is worth it! Our cocktails were expertly made and tasted delicious. I went for the bar’s namesake Bramble cocktail and it didn’t disappoint. We visited before dinner and even at 5pm the music was pumping. It was difficult to hold a conversation over the hip-hop but I think the music is as much a part of the bar’s image as the cocktails are. Very cool place.

17/01/2018: Our 1st visit after many recommendations and I’m happy to say it won’t be the last. Staff are very attentive without being overbearing. Most importantly the food was lovely. We went for the weekday 2 courses for £14.95 which had a decent selection of choices. The haggis was a favourite starter with a mixture of pasta dishes for mains. All dishes were served within a decent waiting time, piping hot and were all very tasty indeed. Portion sizes were just right and there was happy plates all round. Definitely worth trying if In the area or even if you have to travel a wee bit.
14/01/2018: Decided on a mid January treat to blow away the post festive blues. Wasn’t disappointed. A lovely local Italian restaurant that matches any in the city. The food is great, plentiful choice on the menu and specials board. Well worth a visit :)
