Chenzo's Restaurant in West Lothian

We've been here many times and always received a friendly welcome. It was recommended to us by neighbours who themselves have been going here for around years. The hand cut triple cooked chips are amazing, as are the properly thin and authentic pizzas, and my husband loved his spag bol the last time we were there. Even if we just fancy a takeway pizza, this is our first choice. Good value too!

Excellent meal for 7 people, the chefs specials in particular were flavoursome and a decent quantity. We hope to be back soon

Our favourite restaurant, been coming for 30 yrs don’t even need a menu as Chenzo knows exactly what we want. His wife is absolutely lovely as well.

First time there for a birthday lunch. Had salmon and chips, delicious , then followed by cheesecake. I'll be back! Highly recomm.

Stopped here for a spontaneous dinner after driving past. It was very quiet when we entered but the staff and the chef were so friendly. The food was delicious, however the mussels could've done with more washing as we found them to be quite gritty/sandy which was disappointing. I really recommend the Penne Salmone it was delish. The only issue was without ordering the garlic bread as a side I would have still been hungry. The pasta portion sizes did seem small for dinner. The home made fudge cake was also a highlight, it comes warm with ice cream and a chocolate sauce.

We had a lovely evening in Chenzo’s last night. Delicious authentic Italian food, relaxed atmosphere & great service. We definitely won’t leave it so long before we visit again.

Wonderful Italian Restaurant. Went on a Monday afternoon while my Car was getting its MOT. Very quiet, so was sat and served quickly. Food was fantastic. Will visit again

We've been in Scotland from Oz for 9 days. This was our best meal by a country mile. The bruschetta was the best I have EVER tasted. The stroganoff and tagliatelle chicken and broccoli were delightful. The apple pie to die for. How lucky we were to be referred here from the nearby pub.

My granddad's favourite meal from Chenzos is no longer on the menu--a tagliatelle with Chenzo's sauce. When he was dying last year, we phoned in and asked if he could make some of this dish for us to take away. He did it every day we asked, and always with a smile. Granddad's appetite dried up in his final months, but he would always go for a Chenzos :) And I got to enjoy some of the pizza too, which is superb! I was visiting my nana today and we helped ourselves to another Chenzos today--and once again, he made the tagliatelle for my nana. I doubt they know how much it meant to my grandparents during granddad's illness that he kept taking the time to make this comfort dish, but it meant loads and loads and I apprecioate it greatly. Thank you!!

Classic Italian cooking, with attention to detail. The host/chef was passionate about his restaurant & was a pleasure to talk to We really enjoyed every mouth full. Delicious, with good sized portions Was quiet & romantic

We had an excellent lunch cooked to perfection in slightly dated but very authentic surroundings. The welcome was friendly and warm and the service was excellent. We would definitely be happy to return should the occasion arise.

The owner was friendly and welcoming. I had the salmon special. It was nice and hot when it arrived and the sauce with it (sorry I can’t remember the name) was fantastic rich (not too rich) and creamy. We got talking to the owner and he mentioned he’d been thinking about closing early as is was a slow day. We mentioned we were at the local pub down the road and heard a couple of the locals saying they were going to stop by for a meal and he said he would stay open for them as he thinks he knew who we were talking about. That was a really nice touch. Shows the appreciation for the regular customer and new customers!! You know it’s a good place if the locals are regulars. Excellent food will be back we are from the next town over and don’t have a good Italian near us except chain restaurants this one of family owned and authentic.

I have been working in Livingston for a month and Chenzo’s was recommended to me. I ate here a couple of times. The food is absolutely delicious and, although I’m not an expert, seems very authentically Italian. The menu is varied without being over facing. I didn’t struggle to pick something that I fancied. The second time I came here, I brought a colleague, who was equally impressed. The staff are very friendly and helpful, with just the right amount of attention. I definitely hope to return when I’m next up here. The sort of place where you can dress-up, or not, and you don’t feel uncomfortable as a lone diner.

A good Italian restaurant with very friendly staff. Food was all cooked fresh to order and was very nice. Lamb was recommended as the daily special dish and was excellent.

Visited with friends for group dinner, as always had a warm welcome and great food. Many dishes can be adapted to suit dietary requirements such as gluten free and lactose intolerance, as everything fresh and cooked to order.

We can't praise this place enough. The food is outstanding. It was a Monday night so we had a chance to chat to the owner. He was great with the kids and his specials were incredible. Great price, amazing house wine and a lovely atmosphere. Kids loved the open kitchen. Will definitely be back and would recommend it to everyone. 90s decor and music adds to the charm. Great night. We love eating Italian and we stumbled upon this restaurant after a day trip to Livingston via TripAdvisor reviews and so glad we did!Quality, home cooked food which was so obviously cooked with passion.We started with a stuffed mushrooms special and a bruschetta which was excellent. Two chicken Milanese followed as main courses and we were not disappointed. In fact my wife said it was one of the best she had tasted (and she eats this a lot at any Italian we go to!) and I couldn't disagree!A cheesecake and a tiramisu (both homemade of course!) finished things off nicely.Our son had tagliatelle and ice cream which was also excellent.The chef and his wife were very hospitable...it would just have been nice to see the place busier as the food is so good...a hidden gem for sure.Would definitely return if we are in the area again.

My friend and I had a late lunch here. We were welcomed from the start. We had mushrooms for starters which were lovely and we had half and half pizza and pasta. Tirimasu was lovely, my fave! My friend is a vegetarian and the chef accomodated this no problem. Food and wine was spot on! Definately recommend. Will be back :)

. Poor service asked only seen waiter to order and that was it. . Food was awful, anemic mince, no sauce in bolognese, carbonara full of lumps and burnt pizza.. Informed waiter on issues and she couldn't of cared less took the food and walked away. AVOID

We had mozzarella al caprese, stuffed mushrooms with pate, melon and Parma ham, minestrone, pizzas, pollo al Milanese and THE best tiramisu I’ve had since leaving Italy. Was amazing food and service, we asked for lots of changes to the menu and everything was happily adhered to. Excellent food, service and at a decent price. Happy to recommend and definitely will come back if in the area. Go enjoy

Food was just excellent. No need for a massive menu with too much selection when your meal is that delicious. Can't go wrong with the penne chenzo which my partner had and I was swayed to go for the special which was Chenzo's take on a beef stew with potatoes which was fantastic (appreciate the passion when describing). We had pizza garlic bread with cheese which was literally next level seriously. All that's needed in Chenzo's is an up dated drinks/bar/music situation and more people for atmosphere and can easily be one of the best local restaurants in the area.

We visited Chenzo’s last night with our son, his wife and young daughter to mark their last night with us before heading home to Kent. We were warmly welcomed by Vincenzo like old friends. Choosing from an extensive Italian menu was difficult but we were not disappointed. The food was freshly prepared and served without delay. Background music played quietly enough for us to converse without shouting. We will definitely be back to this jewel in Uphall’s crown.

Myself and my partner visited Chenzo’s for the third time this week and travelled through from Glasgow for the pleasure! We hadn’t been since before the pandemic and we always really enjoy everything on the menu and this was no exception. I had a special of mussels which were delicious and so fresh, then a rib eye which was huge and cooked perfectly. The menu is amazing value and I always like to get at least one course off the specials that the chef gives as they never disappoint. I recommend this restaurant to everyone I meet going near the area as it is one of the best eating and dining experiences I’ve ever had. Love the chef and his wife who always make us feel welcome and are such lovely people. Plus the tiramisu is to die for!! Thanks again Chenzo’s we’ll be back soon!

I called to ask if they were open for lunch and the lady said she’d check. Reply was yes. I wasn’t sure if that meant they were really busy, but when we got there, we were the only customers! We were warmly welcomed and had a fantastic meal, all freshly cooked and served right away! My friend commented on how hot the pasta was and in conversation with the chef, he explained that everything is cooked fresh to order, not pre cooked and reheated. Tiramisu and coffee were also fab. Highly recommend! Thank you!

My partner informed Chenzo's that I was gluten free prior to arriving. We received a five star service and a menu with lots of gluten free options to choose from (the carbonara was delicious). I will be returning in the near future and can highly recommend to others .

I highly recommend this restaurant, the food was brilliant, I had garlic bread to start, spaghetti Bolognese with chips for my main, I really enjoyed it, my partner is gluten free and owner was able to provide many gluten free options for her, brilliant custom. I'll definitely return, 5 stars.

Randomly stopped at this restaurant for lunch. A charming and sociable owner welcomed us. I really enjoyed the penne chenzo- pasta in a delicious sauce of spicy sausage, tomato, mushrooms and cream. We wandered in, off the street at 2.30 on a Tuesday afternoon, looking for a quick lunch. The place was empty and we asked if it was open. “Oh, yes. Come in!” Very quickly we were seated and served drinks with menus in our hands. As well as the menu items we were offered fresh cod, haddock and beef steak. I announced that I am vegan and the owner didn’t blink; he just asked me exactly what I could not eat and went through his menu, suggesting swaps and omissions. Shortly later he was cooking and, a little on from then, he produced two freshly cooked plates of food. My husband had breaded haddock chips and a salad . He said that the fish was perfect and he liked the chips. I had pasta with a tomato and vegetable sauce. I would like his recipe! The dining area was clean and tidy and the loo was spotless. We had a chat with the owner as he took our payment and found that he opened his restaurant in 1989! He was very friendly. This was our own first visit since 2008. We willbe back, but hopefully not leave it so long!

First visit in a number of years to this lovely authentic Italian restaurant.Eight of us dined here, all different dishes were all cooked and presented beautifully. Specials were added bonus. Had a fantastic meal last night at Chenzo’s. As always the food was first class. This is the very best Italian restaurant in the county without a doubt. Had a lovely chat with the owner as well. My wife had the special and it was excellent. I had stuffed chicken which was first class. The cheesecake was to absolutely die for.

My partner and I had heard good things about some restaurants in Uphall, and checked TripAdvisor for recommendations - Chenzo's was number one! It was the first restaurant we'd come to as the Covid restrictions started to lift and we were delighted with how Chenzo's greeted us. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the chef Vincenzo came himself to greet us and tell us about his specials of the day. The food was delicious and we're already looking forward to coming back!

Tried Chenzo's for the first time today! Lovely traditional-style Italian restaurant - delicious food and excellent service. Plump, juicy mussels in a garlic & tomato jus, followed by cooked-to-perfection sea bass, and succulent chicken in a cream & wine sauce with asparagus. We will definitely be back!

Went out for dinner at chenzo's for my friends birthday and loved how welcomed me and my other friends were as soon as we entered. We shared starters - the calamari was absolutely gorgeous and LOVED LOVED LOVED the sauce that came with the mussels; so much so I had to personally go and ask the chef for the recipe :D The staff were so nice and very knowledgable of the menu. Chef came out which nowadays I feel like its a rare thing to see in restaurants - just adds to the typical Italian authenticity. Highly recommend and i shall be back :)

Last weekend I went there to celebrate my birthday and I had such a great experience: my first impression was that I was in a proper Italian Restaurant with a proper traditional “Italian vibe”. The owners of the restaurant are so friendly and help you to feeling very welcomed. The opinions of drinks are wide and the food is just the best. Proper Italian food made by a Italian chef. What else could we wait for? I highly recommend it!

Love visiting Chenzo's always greeted with a friendly smile on arrival. Never had a bad meal here. Owner keeps specials fresh and always offer something new for us to try. Tonights meal was great. For cheese lovers the Brie starter is very tasty. But a must try is the homemade cheesecake. OMG this is so light and fluffy topped with raspberry sauce, great way to end a meal.

Love this small hidden gem in Uphall, West Lothian. Amazing freshly cooked food with a nice choice from the menu. Super hosts who are more than helpful. Can’t recommend enough and will most definitely be back when passing. 5*

We enjoyed an early dinner here for which there is no set menu, it is up to Chenzo as to what he offers on the day. It wasn't outstanding, but it was really good, especially the cheesecake, which apparently his wife made. Most of all we enjoyed chatting to Chenzo and would certainly return if we were in the area again and tell others to do so too.

We went here for a quick lunch, only because I recently found out that my 3x great grandfather lived and ran his business (Post Office and merchants) from this building from1837, and that it was lived in by the next 3 generations. We had a long chat with very friendly owner Vincenzo about the history. No ghostly relatives that he knew of,However this is a review of the food. Vincenzo recommended that we have spaghetti with some of the fresh mussels he had bought that day. So glad we did as it was fabulous. Perfectly cooked spaghetti, a light tomato sauce that wasn’t too acidic and lovely plump mussels. Delicious. Highly recommended.

The food is amazing. Our starters of mussels and pate stuffed mushrooms were fantastic. The pizzas are not to be missed - a real Italian pizza without going all the way to Naples! We rounded off our dinner with the home made cheesecake - so light and delicious. We’ll definitely be returning

Our experience was nothing like those good reviews that we read, restaurant was empty with no atmosphere and the food was terrible. Starter of bruschetta was a piece of toast (basic bread) with chopped tomatoes thrown on and some brown lettuce at the side. No oils or vinegars. No herbs. Fried mushroom starter was clearly bought frozen and deep fried with no taste and a bit of limp lettuce to the side. One mushroom was still cold in the middle A pizza for main so not difficult!! Burnt in places and not cooked in the middle! I never normally write reviews or complain but I feel people need to be aware of this before booking.

We were staying at the nearby Houstoun House Hotel and ate in this wee restaurant tonight after finding previous positive reviews on Trip Advisor. I have coeliac disease and have to eat 100% gluten free, with awareness of cross contamination. I had mussels in tomato and garlic sauce and then perfectly cooked lamb chops. A really homely restaurant with a lovely chef/owner who makes time to ensure you are happy with your meal. We do not live nearby but would definitely eat here again if in the area. No rip off prices, and excellent quality.

While staying at the Houston House, we walked down to Chenzo’s to meet my fiancé’s family who live in Uphall. What a treat! I have not had such authentic food outside of Italy. The fried Brie was delicious, the Penne Arrabiata, fresh and spicy, and the Wood-fired pizza took me back to the pizza I had on the Amalfi Coast. My fiancé had the Penne Chenzo’s and he loved it. Highly recommend!

While staying at Houston House Hotel, we discovered this restaurant, a few minutes walk away. Food superb, friendly service. Nothing too much trouble. Was so good we returned the next night. Proper Italian restaurant.

Four of us came here for dinner and the food was fantastic, my sister normally can’t eat a full pizza but she finished every last bite, I had the special which was lamb casserole and it melted in my mouth. Although we were all full we all managed a dessert, the cheese cake was divine. Another nice touch was the owner allowing me to have a half carafe of Nero d’avlo as I was the only person drinking red wine. They also allowed us to have our very well behaved dog in the restaurant. 10 out of 10 for food quality and service, we would highly recommend this fabulous restaurant.

Went tonight for dinner as a family of four. We had an amazing main course and starter each and were pleasantly surprised by how affordable it all was. The best part about the experience was the staff who were very friendly and welcoming.

Just had a lovely lunch at Chenzo’s today celebrating my wife’s birthday. Owner Vincenzo was charming and attentive & his wine recommendation was spot on.Our starters were from the daily specials. My decent size portion of mussels were delicately flavoured in a tomato wine and garlic sauce & the homemade bread ensured my plate was wiped clean. My wife chose breaded mushrooms stuffed with mozzarella & garlic and pronounced the 4 large mushrooms served with a side salad delicious.Mains consisted of a ribeye steak for the good lady with a portion of chips on the side and a fillet steak stroganoff for me. Both dishes cooked to perfection!Alas we had no room for dessert but the bean to cup coffees were excellent .

My partner and I came here for dinner and we were not disappointed - we had a lovely bottle of house white to share, some exceptionally fresh smoked salmon and prawns to start, and we were both blown away with our main courses. The pizza was delicious and generously topped with my choice of meat, and my partner’s chicken Milanese was by perfectly cooked and seasoned. We would love to return if we ever come back to the area. Also fantastic service, our waitress was attentive and very polite.

Decided to try Chenzo's for a birthday meal for my husband as we have driven past before and always wanted to try it. We ordered fried cheese mushrooms and mussels to start, followed by pizza and pasta. It was all absolutely delicious. All the ingredients tasted so fresh and the pizza was baked to perfection. The homemade sauce was especially tasty. Very reasonably priced as well. The owners even came over to check on our meals and to chat which made us feel so welcome. We will definitely be returning, as we enjoyed every part of our meal. Can't wait to go back!

After reading great reviews we booked on the eat out to help out scheme, supporting local business. Staff are very friendly, however, we left slightly underwhelmed. Bruschetta should be on a toasted bagette , not tomatoes on a piece of untoasted bread...the breaded mushrooms, although nice would be better served with a dip. Carbonara was tastless, needs seasoning. The desert was probably the best part. However as we were there supporting local business i still left a 20% tip. I do hope it improves, but ill pick somewhere else the next time

Chenzo's has always been a family favourite of ours. Not been for a while, due to moving from the area. First time back tonight in a while. Food including the special were outstanding. Delicious flavours & cooked to perfection as always. Reasonably priced & never disappoints. The staff are very attentive & friendly. Keep up the good work Chenzo & team. We won't make it as long next time until we visit again.

My Fiancé and I have been here about 4 times in the past year and a half and it is easily one of my favourite, and best, Italian restaurants we have ever had the privilege of visiting.First off it is so easy to miss when walking around so I am very glad we stumbled upon it as every time we have entered we have been greated with a very warm, welcoming and heartful welcome and have been sat in a lovely, homely area. The background music is very relaxing and the whole experience gives off an Italian vibe.Our hostess is always very happy and smiley. She is very polite and nothing we ask for is too much. A touch I really enjoy is the chef comes out to advise us of his current specials, a really nice touch. The food is absolutely bursting with flavour and each dish we try gets better and better. The value for money for food portion/quality is fantastic. I have enjoyed talking with the chef at the end of our meals and letting him know how fantastic his food is, for both taste and presentation.We will continue to come here and recommend to all our friends! Me and my partner have been here numerous times and every time we have absolutely loved the food. The service is impeccable and the prices are great for the quality of food you get. After dinner, the chef always comes over to offer you anything else you may need and has a wee chat with you which adds a lovely personal touch. You can taste the freshness of the food as it is made to order and the service from both the chef and his lovely wife is just fab. Very attentive hosts. Highly recommend a trip here.

Went to dinner at Chenzos with friends last night, (Tues 18/2/20). We were first to arrive & received a very warm welcome from Chenzo. As a party of 4, some had the steak, whilst other had chicken with asparagus or in my case the "special", lamb stew with rice. The food was AMAZING this included the starter of stuffed mushrooms which were made to perfection. Our friends had been there several times but this was our first visit & won't be our last. THANK YOU Chenzo for such a wonderful welcome, hospitality & excellent food. Chenzo knew our friends especially Alex & explained how he knew him. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I have eaten in Chenzos on quite a few occasions. I have never been disappointed with any of the food I have ordered and eaten... I love the fact it is made fresh and to order. If you don't want what is on offer on the menu, Chenzo is more than happy and obliging to make you something at your request if he has the ingredients.I would definitely recommend and I will definitely be back.Thank you to both Chenzo and Gail for being fabulous hosts who are always welcoming. Staying in Houston House and got tired of the poor service. Went to Chenzo’s for a change. The venue is a bit dated but more than made up for by Chenzo. Service was excellent and the food was definitely ‘on point’. Definitely worth the effort going there.

We visit Chenzo's regularly and are never disappointed. We have pretty much sampled everything on the menu, and many of the specials, but the fillet steak is a favourite. It beats any we have had in upmarket restaurants and at a great price. The pizzas are fantastic, lovely thin base and generous toppings. Would highly recommend a visit to Chenzo's, always a warm and friendly welcome and fantastic food at reasonable prices.

We had a lovely meal this evening.The restaurant was quiet so the service was excellent. My son said it was the best pizza he’s ever had. My main course was a special lamb stew which was delicious. I picked the best pudding which was a homemade cheesecake which was light and creamy a lovely end to the meal.

We received a warm welcome and fantastic service. The food was well prepared to order, and cooked wonderfully. We had the pizza, pasta and a chicken and asparagus special. All tasted great. Thank you for a lovely evening on a rainy night!

Can’t believe this is the first time we’ve visited Chenzo’s and it definitely won’t be the last! Lovely friendly welcome and excellent service. The menu is small but perfectly formed with something for everyone and there’s also specials. The prawn cocktail was excellent with plenty of prawns and sauce and the special of mushrooms were really tasty. The pizzas were made before our eyes in the lovely open kitchen. A truly authentic Italian pizza and 3 empty plates were enough to show how good they were. All desserts are homemade and my son’s cheesecake was gone in seconds! I’ll definitely be back to sample the homemade tiramisu. The house wine of Italian Merlot was excellent. Overall would highly recommend Chenzo’s.

Having visited Chenzo's on Saturday for our annual Rover Group Christmas dinner, we were made to feel welcome right of the bat. The quality of the food was absolutely excellent as was the service. There were some in our party who had various dietary requirements, but Chenzo's dealt with this with ease. I cannot sing their praises high enough, we will definitely be making it a "Rovers Return".

We have visited Chenzo's twice as members of a group and on both occasions Chenzo's has excelled. They have coped with diners requirements including gluten free, dairy free, & vegetarian without any problems, and the quality and quantity of the freshly prepared foods has been superb. Heartily recommended!

I dined here on my own, having left a local hotel bar/restaurant, due to poor service. This restaurant was not busy and the husband and wife team made me feel very welcome. The chef made me something not on the menu which was good quality, flavourful and good value.

Had a lunch here by myself, passing through. The service was excellent, the food very authentic and very good. Very welcoming and friendly. Recommend to anyone and will certainly be back when I'm in the area.

Visited Chenzo's with friends on a cold rainy Friday night. Received a warm welcome and were shown to our table. Drinks order promptly taken by friendly waitress Gail who explained the 'specials'. We all had starter, main course and dessert plus 2 glasses of wine each (except the driver who had ginger beer)! followed by coffee. All courses were lovely and enjoyed by everyone and were very reasonably priced. Highly recommend for an enjoyable evening out and happy to support a local restaurant giving excellent service. Easy parking right outside the restaurant unlike central Edinburgh.

We went late on a week night and were greeted by the owner, Vincenzo himself. He welcomed us in without hesitation. His hospitality was second to none and the atmosphere was lovely. We were served an incredible 3 course authentic Italian meal. Absolutely fresh and exquisite food. We are already going back tomorrow night. It’s worth wherever you have to travel from to dine there....you won’t be disappointed!
