Bar Leo in West Lothian

We came on 3 Nov 2024. The menu at the door was not up to date, it's different from the menu inside, so some dishes no longer exist. We were polite, 'please' and 'thank you' weren't lacking, but not sure that's racism or because we have SEN kids in our group that made the waiter felt we were too noisy, he didn't serve us with patience and no smile at all, which made a big contrast when comparing with those services he provided to the next table of local customers. More, I felt under pressure when the waiter warned me if I not placing order in one go with other members of my table, I can only place order when their dishes being served. Back to the food, Spaghetti Bolognese was too wet and both this Spaghetti and Risitto Affumicato's taste were too light that like no seasonings. On the other hand, Fussilli Salmon Gamberoni was too salty. I can't comment on the food of my friend's family, but missing of dishes on kid's menu made disappointments. Although we finally sorted it out, but being cold-shouldered wasn't a good experience. Can't understand how this restaurant got high score. Definitely won't come back.

Had dinner there last night. Food not great, service even worse. I ordered veal milanese, pan fried in breadcrumbs. It was so greasy the breadcrumbs fell off. The manager and the waiting staff noticed I had not eaten the meal. No one asked if there was a problem. The waitress took the plates away. She asked if I wanted dessert or coffee. I just asked for the bill. The bill arrived with a 10% service charge. I didn't quibble, I gave the waiter £80. He then asked me if I wanted my change. When I was leaving, the manager approached me. I was at the front door. He asked if everything was OK. I told him the veal was inedible to me as I was so greasy. So greasy, in fact the breadcrumbs fell off into a greasy mess. He denied there was anything wrong and in fact, that was only my opinion. I told him quietly and politely, that neither he, or his waiting staff had made eye contact with me, as they knew there was an issue. No offer of an apology, not even a coffee or the offer of a refund for the veal. He was very defensive and very offensive. Do yourself a favour and stear well clear.

Great personal attention from the owner and really tasty food with good choices available. Exceptional dishes on the Specials Board when we were there, including lobster ravioli which I thoroughly enjoyed 🦞 Limoncello was flowing!👌

Food was very disappointing. Had the veal with Parma ham, couldn't eat it. Ingredients I love, but cooked in a way that was horrible. Waiter was understanding so offered a quatro stagioni pizza instead. Tasted good, but it was undercooked, overloaded with toppings, so pizza was wet and could only be eaten with knife and fork. Ordered drinks which never came. Can't see a reason to return back.

Really pleasant place with some great food.

I was made to feel welcome as soon as I stepped through the door! Our friends loved it here and I can see why - the lasagna, salad, pizzas and customer service were exceptional. Thanks for a great visit.

Lovely diner with a lovely entourage. The owner is a very enthusiastic host who wants the time of your live. He is passionate about the thing he does, lovely to see.

Staff were amazing and the food was fantastic

Fantastic little place. Very nice decor, our server was very attentive. Our server offered to us a suggestion, since we were traveling to the Linlithgow Palace and could not carry leftovers, he suggested we split a dish. Which was presented to us along with a side of olives which was fantastic as well.

First day ever in Europe/Scotland, had an early dinner here- had a pizza and tried my first peroni. Wonderful atmosphere, kind and outgoing staff, this was a great first experience across the pond for me. If I wasn’t seriously sleep deprived I would have stayed longer and tried a dessert. Wish I had more time in Linlithgow so I could go back. Highly recommend.

We ordered cheesy garlic focaccia (which looks like a large, sauce less cheese pizza), a margarita pizza and a primavera pizza. Everything was delicious. Bathrooms are nice and clean, server (owner?) was very nice and efficient. He helped us hail a cab after our meal because we were unable to figure out how to dial the number from our American phones.

Great little find this place , fantastic fresh Italian food will definitely be back.

Our waiter was arrogant, rude and gave us terrible service. The food was okay, but he insulated us in many ways for our portions and not wanting a whole bottle of wine.

The food isn’t nearly good enough for terrible attitudes of the staff, felt like it was an inconvenience to go in and ask for food. If you’re driving and so not drinking expect eye rolls and exasperation!

Quaint little Italian restaurant in Linlithgow. They have a good choice of fresh pasta, pizza and meat dishes. I've enjoyed a few dinners here and I've never had a bad meal. The atmosphere is good, the staff are friendly and the prices are fair.

Wonderful italian restaurant. Excellent service and very friendly staff. Great selection of vegetarian dishes, but even accommodated an alteration to a meat dish. Well priced for the portion size in comparison to other Italian restaurants.

Enjoyed a dinner with friends at Bar Leo, a long standing Linlithgow establishment. We all enjoyed the food and helpful friendly service. It's good to have a consistently good local restaurant. Good job Bar Leo.

We popped in here for lunch on a visit to Linlithgow today and had the best Diavola Pizza in a long time. Great food and service made this restaurant a must to visit again soon.

Great Restaurant, great food and very friendly staff!

The place has a warmth and culture. The place added to the brilliance of Linlithgow! .we were there on 31 st evening celebrating our eve visiting the castle when came across this place and the gentleman managing it. I can’t forget the wee bit of minutes spent there in the warmth of heater in a corner opened for us. The hot chocolate was put on house that’s a rarity especially in UK I haven’t seen anywhere. Thanks 🙏 and cheer to Mr ( I’m sorry I forgot the name ) Vin.

We had a fabulous meal at this lovely restaurant last night 21/11/23 the food was excellent the service was spot on and lovely atmosphere the owner made the evening so relaxing and most enjoyable we would highly recommend this restaurant for a wonderful meal .

Epic.... Meal for 4, service superb, food superb, not expensive and really enjoyed the evening. Couple of starters (Caprese and Focaccia) both really nice. Mains were 3 Pizzas and a pasta. All excellent. Sides; chips and rocket and parmesan salad. Both excellent. Summary: excellent. Will go again. Prices reasonable and food wonderful. Thanks.

Really delicious food, lovely restaurant & atmosphere. If I had one gripe it would be the chips. Far too much skin on them & not tasty & not appealing at all.

Hadn't been for a while before latest visit. It was nice overall, just felt a bit lacking. No water offered for the table, no fresh black pepper, no fresh shaven parmesan. Of course these are all things we can ask for, but for the price paid, I would expect a better level of service. We were also missing a dessert item that was included on the bill. It was of course removed upon request but again, not the level of service I would expect, In all honesty it kind of felt like staff were packing up and waiting for us to leave. I probably will go again, but I won't rush back.

My boyfriend and I had a lovely meal in here last night, the staff were very and the food was delicious.

It's difficult to beat Bar Leo for consistently good quality cooking served in a friendly atmosphere where you are remembered from the last time you visited. Hard to better in Edinburgh or Glasgow in my opinion. Still great

Today were going to stay there for a couple glass of wine with my husband but staff has refused with a reason we can only eat there. Nevertheless, there were pretty many of available table. It was kind of humiliating response by administrator. Never will back here even for dining. Take care about this next time if you are going to have a glass of drink first.

Son always raves about this restaurant so expectations were already very high fortunately his praise was well justified. We all enjoyed a first class meal (and drinks) in lovely surroundings served by friendly staff.

A tremendous asset to Linlithgow. Great, family run place. Excellent food and service and dependable for a great night out. Takeaway is a new revelation too, fantastic. Need to start going a bit more regularly!

Beautiful food, a very nice little restaurant. My husband's steak was perfectly cooked and my sea bass was lovely, amazing flavour in the sauce but not too strong for the delicate fish.

Been here 5 times now but my boyfriend got food poisoning this time. Must have been from the chicken he has a pasta dish with spinach 😕. My haggis starter was great, drinkw were expensive over £9 for a belleni in a small glass. My main was not bad but there wasnt much sauce. It wasnt really thick or coating the pasta? Staff were very nice the interior was nice too There is no parking for this restaurant we had to park at tesco which is maybe a 5 minute walk

Had a family lunch for 16 and it was absolutely brilliant. Staff were great and very attentive. Adults and kids all delighted with their meals.

Excellent meal we have been many times and enjoyed. We took friends to enjoy the friendly experience unfortunately some of the staff were a bit grumpy which disappointed us and made the experience a bit disappointing i we loved the food

The restaurant itself was pleasant, but the Penne Picante with spicy sausage was plain at best. I wouldn't recommend the place. The simple fact that the staff never smiled
