Situated on Central Promenade, Newcastle, Co.Down the covered outdoor seating gives a truly Mediterrean atmosphere as you admire the views of the harbour and Slieve Donard, the highest peak in Northern Ireland, as it sweeps down to the sea. Choose one of the fabulous Base Coffee drinks or select from the range of herbal teas. For morning snacks try the sausage rolls, croisants or scone with fresh jam. Then later in the day you must try the home baked apple pie of one of the delicious (but huge) tray bakes. Base Coffee is not just a coffee shop, it's a hub for many regulars and undoubtedly you will very quickly feel welcome.

We finally stopped in here for breakfast, and my only complaint is that it took us so long to try it. I had the granola pot and a flat white, the berries were delicious and fresh, yoghurt was creamy but the show stealer was the homemade granola! It had a hint of cinnamon and was just great. My partner had the brioche and he was very impressed. We had two traybakes and two scones to take away, and everything was excellent. Already looking at their instagram to decide what we will try next time. Also to top it off - service was great too! Really enjoyed everything, thank you!

This place deserves more than 5 stars!! Came here for a belated special birthday lunch and had a wonderful vegetarian meal. There were great menu choices with separate children and veggie/vegan menus and I struggled to choose as spoilt for choice. In the end I went for the Korean cauliflower and chargrilled celeriac, with both being delicious. Don't really see celeriac on menus and there was a Cajun roasted version on the main menu, which I was pleased my son chose so could have a taste. My son's pumpkin soup of the day was delicious as was my husband's prawn and salmon dishes. My daughter ate from the children's menu and declared her garlic bread being some of the best she has tasted and the kitchen kindly did a meat free Sunday roast, which she loved. I was too full for pudding but did have a taste of what everyone else went for. Service throughout was fantastic. Great to find somewhere so nice with a varied menu and suitable for the whole family.

My family and I arrived at this cafe just after 2pm on a Monday. There were no menus apart from one on the wall behind the till, which for a place with two long rooms to sit was rather inconvenient. We were informed that they no longer served breakfast which reduced our options by half. I ordered a club sandwich which came with cold, processed chicken and a ton of mayo. They refused to serve us bacon on toast for our little one although my sandwich contained those ingendients. There was no kids menu. I also ordered a piece of lemon meringue which was truly old. Apart from the friendly staff this was a disappointing experience.
