Maginns Bar in Down

Pretty outside ,spacious and comfortable in. Good menu choice. As someone who doesn’t like chicken it’s sometimes hard to find something I would want, here that isn’t a problem.

Very poor, ordered Gammon Steak Two Small pieces of baked hem arrived on a plate and a portion of frys. To say it was a sad looking plate of food was an understatement. They are plenty more establishments crying out for our business and it looks like this is not one of them. P.S. Staff were made aware before we left of how dissatisfied we felt.

Had a lovely meal here last summer on a Saturday lunchtime in a packed bar so decided to call again.the practically empty bar was a surprise but we now know why.the food was just about edible.certainly won't be back

Had a really nice meal and a cold pint of Guinness 2 Adults and 2 kids...Food was Amazing. We were stuck in traffic most of the day and we called into Maginns Bar last minute...really best decision of the Easter Monday. Staff were very friendly,orders were quickly taken...food was hot and tasty.Bill was very reasonable too.10/10 from us....we will be back

We popped in for Sunday lunch today , wow the food and service were 5*,we both had turkey and ham , highly recommended Felt totally safe as this has been our first time dining out in so long Well done maginns will be back next Sunday

Went to Castlewellan forest park for the day and a few people recommended this place for food after.i expected typical pub grub and was pleasantly surprised at the vast delicious menu.the young lad Eoin behind the bar was run off his feet because of the Tyrone Kerry match and still looked after us well.lovely surroundings,great food and excellent staff, especially Eoin.we will definitely be back

My wife and i had a lovley meal and drinks. We had the curry and a roast dinner very tastey indeed. Even though they were busy they made room for us. Much appreciated. Every member of staff were great couldnt do enough for you. Teirny got me some ice cream even after the kitchen had closed great job. Sorry if i have prenounsed your name wrong. Stopped off here today after a hike night in the Mournes.We were here about 4 weeks ago and had a Sumday turkey dinner and it was lovely so thought we would stop again for dinner before travelling home.My partner ordered the roast beef and I ordered baked cod with mushrooms and champ.We had salt and chilli chicken for starter which was nice but it all went down hill after that.My partners roast beef was cold so he. Had to send it back and they reheated.My fish was smelly and tasted off.I called the waiter over and told him the fish was off and he said he was sure it wasn't off.So I said I would try it and it was the most disgusting taste I have ever tried and while I am typing I still feel sick from it.I couldn't eat it so ate the champ that was served on the side which was lumpy and cold.My partner said his reheated roast beef was edible but overall he didn't enjoy. the waiter took our plates we said again the fish was off and he said he would get the chef to talk to us-he didn't though.We got the bill and paid at the bar and told the barman that the food was poor and the fish was in off.He shrugged saying there was nothing he could do!!!!i will never be back to Maginns and will be telling friends not to go as the food and service is bad with the staff not caring what slop they give out to customers. 2 very u happy customers who won't be back.

Called in whilst in Castlewellan for lunch. As the place had only a few customers I asked the server was it on the Eat out to help out scheme. He relied no. That explained the lack of customers. Other restaurants I have visited on that scheme was packed during breakfast lunch and dinner. I ordered the salted chilli chicken which was excellent when it arrived. The other meal was a soup and wrap combo which my partner really enjoyed. This is the second time I had a meal and was not disappointed with food or service

We called into this hidden gem with our 3 grandsons ( 3,6 and 10)and what a surprise. Beautiful inside and a lot bigger than what we were expecting. Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much hassle. Even though it was really busy, we were served with no waiting. Boys enjoyed the experience which made us feel at ease.
