Two of us had lunch here for the first time. We both had the VKFC chicken with sweet potato fries. It was amazing. The dish comes with BBQ sauce, but my colleague asked could she have garlic mayo instead and this was no issue. Really nice atmosphere, very busy and very clean. Looking forward to my next visit already as the menu looks great.

Lovely food, took a while to get our food but it was very busy on this day as it's very popular. I would recommend it as the food was lovely.

Went for lunch with my wife and son. Staff were super attentive upon arrival and seated within minutes. Drinks ordered and order placed all within 5-10 minutes of being seated. The wife went for the special which was salted chili bites with skin on skinny fries and side salad, son had sausages and chips and I had bacon, brie and red onion marmalade panini with skinny fries coleslaw and side salad. Picture below. Overall total was around £30 which wasn't too bad for two big plates of lunch and coke zero and child's lunch. Highly would recommend The Secret Garden to anyone looking for a high quality meal in the Dundonald area.

Popped in to buy a take away scone When I opened it up the scone wasn’t much deeper than a pancake and felt and tasted very dry and stale I had chosen a fruit scone and all the fruit was distributed round edges leaving the middle completely fruit free. The edges were also overcooked The scone sadly was not enjoyable to eat. Not sure I’d be buying a scone from here again Bit disappointed Perhaps not a freshly baked scone?? Their tray-bakes on the other hand are usually exceptional

I visited this restaurant once before and had an absolutely wonderful meal. I was looking forward to going again and arrived at 14:30 on a Monday afternoon in mid-June. They were closed despite it saying online (in at least two different places) that they’d be open until 16:00. Very disappointing.

I only discovered this hidden gem with an online search. We loved it! Quirky wee place with friendly staff and properly good coffee. My husband loved the toasted scone and my caramel square was exactly how I remembered them!

Found myself with an hour to kill so stopped in for lunch. Really friendly staff and my food was delicious. Icing on the cake was the lovely coffee afterwards and the most delicious homemade traybakes! A hidden gem!

The food was poor and the choice of mains was limited, with only one vegetarian option being the mandatory vegetarian’s nemesis ‘Risotto’ not so much a cliche, more of a lazy joke. I was charged £5.00 for a CAN of Guinness 00 ! There are pubs in the area serving Guinness 00 on draft for £5.00 so the Poet is simply overcharging in my opinion and the opinion of EVERYONE I’ve spoken to since. For my main I had their scampi, which was OK, but ‘Chunky Chips’ should not be served in those little miniature deep fat fryer baskets. Everyone on our table laughed at this, especially when I counted out the Six chips I received. My wife had the chicken pieces, which claims to be served with salad but I could have scooped more salad from a salad bowl using a safety pin whilst blindfolded. It was simply beyond a joke. So overpriced alcohol free CANS of Guinness and poor food. Surroundings…. The Poet inside is still quite attractive. It was quite well designed as The Lonely Poet back in the day and the design has stood the test of time. So I will say that inside, it is still an attractive bar and it’s way better than it looks from outside, as it’s stuck on the edge of King’s Square beside a disused Bank and a Co-op. We all know that you judge a bar by the cleanliness of its toilets and I can say that the toilets in the Poet are amongst the filthiest, most disgusting toilets I’ve ever had the misfortune to visit. The gents had one broken urinal, two broken hand dryers and floors which didn’t look like they’d been mopped for a week. The stupid plastic (assuming white) pull bar on the inside of the cubicle had black grime caked along its entire length…the lighting was so bad I almost touched it, but luckily I noticed the filth before doing so. My wife and family members said the Ladies toilets were of a similar shocking state. We are not hygiene freaks, I expect a pub’s toilets to be a bit rough and I almost expect one of the dryers to be broken, after all, that’s why Levi’s are so absorbent, but this was months of accumulated grime. The staff seemed friendly enough and I know they must struggle to stay motivated in a bar which apart from our party, was virtually empty by 9.30 on a Saturday Night! We got the feeling the place was being allowed to slowly die. Neither the menu nor the standard of the food is going to attract customers to return and word is spreading, so new repeat customers are an unlikely prospect. I wouldn’t recommend The Poet to anyone. We will not return and I would rather drive a bit further to a decent bar rather than waste money on an establishment stuck in the past and living on the reputation of the Lonely Poet.

Only disposible cups used, which just end up blowing around outside and making a mess. Supremely wasteful and unnecessary. A real shame that an establishment in such a nice setting is so environmentally unfriendly.

A couple of negative reviews recently, maybe some of it is accurate, thankfully my experience was good and indeed is usually very good anytime I stop here for lunch or brunch. The chicken bake was very nice, proper chicken and not overly priced.

Malone House has just opened its doors again after being closed since Covid . Went this morning for coffee. Positives. Waitress was lovely very friendly and helpful. Negative. Scones looked and tasted stale . Only one blueberry left at 10:o’clock. Coffee dreadful. Really need to up their game if wanting to attract more customers. It was very quiet the morning we were there and I’m not surprised. There’s so much potential and the restaurant under right management could be really good however this morning it was very Disappointing.

Decided to go for dinner with my wife early evening. Started with a coffee each, cool and weak coffee didn't finish it. My wife decided to go for 3 sides, coleslaw, chunky chips and garlic bread supreme. Garlic bread was soggy chunky chips were bone dry and very few chunky chips with a lot of small crispy bits, coleslaw was OK. I got the burger with chunky chips. Burger was burnt, chunky chips same as my wife's chunky chips. Did comment on this to staff. To be fair, I was not charged for the food but did pay for the glass of wine and large diet coke. Its very disappointing as the food here used to be great but for some reason the food is now awful. I'd rather pay for good food than not be charged for awful food. What's going on here.
