A couple of negative reviews recently, maybe some of it is accurate, thankfully my experience was good and indeed is usually very good anytime I stop here for lunch or brunch. The chicken bake was very nice, proper chicken and not overly priced.

Very disappointed I stood in the queue with my fry, the queue was that slow it was cold by the time I got eating it! People behind me in the queue overtook with their scones whilst I was getting hot food!! They should seriously think about a diffent system!! I feel they over charge for what you get! Dirty tables not cleared . I will think twice before I go back. Small potions, I don’t recommend

I can only comment on the excellent cakes and scones.. Pavlova especially good .. There are also roasts, sandwiches, Pies, Panini etc. which all seemed excellent although I did not try . The layout is a bit odd as there are numerous places to buy food/ coffees., Also the music piped outside is unnecessary given the quiet of the surroundings.

Overpriced for a very thinly filled cheese toastie. Staff were too busy to care. A very offhand ‘hot foods over now’ at 3.15 before acknowledging that toasters were available. I did query the price but was quickly dismissed. Rude staff and a disappointing experience.

Called at cafe after 4pm and still a good selection of lite dining food left. (Really must come earlier someday soon, because their hot meals are very good - think they finish about 3pm or so) We had sausage rolls, 1 beef 1 pork and some tray bakes. Sausage rolls are very tasty. Remarked a few months ago to one of the staff how impressed I was with machine they heat sausage rolls etc with. They taste like straight out of oven, unlike many other cafes and bakeries that just stick them in a microwave and they come out wet and as hot as the sun. Great oven thingy, Hillmount ( don't know what You call it) Also had a 2x 1 shot americano, perfectly made and friendly staff. A reliable eaterie

We took our year old grandson and 15 week old twin grandchildren to Santa's grotto. It's the best grotto we have ever been too. The friendliest staff I have ever met. They couldn't do enough for you and make you welcome. Santa was lovely and his elf let us take as many pictures as we wanted as well as taking a lovely professional photo. We then had a lovely lunch in the cafe. Can't wait to return next year. Thank you all.

Shame that the staff weren't in the mood for customers today / maybe my friend and I really are invisible or maybe there were amazing items of interest on the floor. Might have some sympathy if they had been busy but fairly quiet at 2.30 pm. Don't they know that the customers actually pay their wages. Regular customer but, to be honest, won't be keen to hurry back.

We used to eat here all the time so decided to return post lockdown but was so disappointed in the food this time. I got a vegan burger which was so so dry and at nearly £7 I expected even a bit a side salad with it but it just came on its own. I also got a vegan brownie which was very dry and small aswell. My partner got a dinner which he didn’t complain about which is why the 2 stars. The bill came to £24 with 2 drinks which was so expensive for what it was. Regretted coming here won’t be back.

Used to frequent here for lunch and always had lovely delicious home baked goodies and fresh and lovely lunch choices. Visited today and has gone downhill dramatically. Very small quiche with a spoonful of coleslaw from a tub . Quiche was so dry a d tough and tasted as though it had been sitting there for days. Tuna baguette - the baguette was soggy and the tuna was almost solid. Also served with a spoonful of horrid coleslaw. Two very small plates of really disgusting food and a cola was £17.. Will never be back

Went today Oct 2020, the gardeners rest, open til 5 and arrived at 3.45. Wasn’t looking anything special just a toastie, was told toast machine was turned off. Ok right, but you’re open for another hour and a quarter turn it back on, I mean you are either open or closed and this seems to be the norm these days with pretty average service, it’s not as if it’s particularly cheap. Maybe Covid got to the machine. Seems petty I know but went out of my way to try the place and wasn’t impressed. 3 cappuccinos 1 sandwich 1 tray bake £15. Coffee nice though.

I would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone at Hillmount Garden Centre for the work they have put in during this period of lockdown. It was so disappointing that back in March, it looked as though our gardens were going to be left without the usual display of colourful plants, as the garden centres were forced to close. It was sad that all the plants might go to waste after all the preparation in getting them ready. Within a few weeks however, Hillmount organised a home delivery service which has been marvellous. As someone who has had to be confined to home for 12 weeks, the garden is so important and something to focus on. I have used the delivery service twice so far and the service has been great. After my first order I even received an email to say thank you for supporting the centre in such difficult times. It is great to see that Garden Centres have now been allowed to reopen and I hope to soon be able to visit them again. In the meantime I hope the deliveries will continue and wish everyone at Hillmount success in the future.

On Friday 24th August my elderly parents went to Hillmount Nursery, Castlereagh for the advertised BOGOF offer on a fry. When the food came it was clear the bacon was very undercooked and was inedible. Being both pensioners they didn't like to complain or make a fuss and so paid the bill and left. After telling members of the family of their disappointment we advised them to phone Hillmount and complain. Next day my mother phoned up and asked to speak to a manager, she gave a brief account if what happened and was asked abruptly why she hadn't complained the previous day. After asking a second time to speak to a manager she was told to hold on. Then was told there was no one available but took her name and number and a manager would call her back. That was over a week ago and still no phone call. I think this is a very unprofessional establishment, I wouldn't recommend Hillmount Nurseries to anyone. Next time you see a BOGOF offer at Hillmount think what it really means!

Called in on Saturday morning for breakfast with my father and daughter. Safe to say I will never be back again as 5 members of staff, each and every one as nasty as the next one. I have never seen such bad customer service in my life. It appeared that the fact that we stood at the place where the fry's are made that I dared ask if it was self service was the breaking point. I had one member of staff walk past us twice and never acknowledged us. Then a member of staff from the kitchen stood looking at us and 2 other members of staff making sandwiches behind him. I asked the guy from the kitchen is it self service or is somebody serving. The dark haired girl and the Blondie making sandwiches gave me the dirtiest of looks for absolutely no reason whatsoever only the fact that I asked the question. Having continued and order our fry and given a number we took a seat, a few minutes later our fry arrived but only after it had done a tour of the restaurant as the girl serving couldn't see it!!! It didn't help with the temperature of the food. I wouldn't waste my time nor money on going again.

Sadly, customer service here has taken a back seat. Ordering something simple seems to become an ordeal; I must have asked three times and even then it wasn't correct. Then I was told by the staff member who'd dealt with the order from the outset 'you didn't ask for that'. On previous occasions, in the last month or so, we've been up at lunchtime and have been told that one of the dishes will be ready in about 15 minutes. A visit to the cafe here seems to have become the most bizarre of experiences. In total contrast to how customer service was not that long ago.

Our tray bakes were delicious, though the selection left was a bit limited- albeit the restaurant was only going to be open another 90 mins or so. We had teas and hot chocolates. The latter were delicious served in tall glasses with cream and mallows. There was a smallish pot of tea between 2, ideally I'd have liked more as we barely had one fill each of our small teacups before it was used up. Especially loved the bright airy modern surroundings overlooking the countryside.

Ok, it's a cafe in a garden centre and it's just what you would imagine one to be nowadays.Setting is good, plenty of room, nice view over the countryside, some quieter areas. Plenty of sauces, ice cubes, water etc... available and don't have to pay for them either. There's plenty of choice of sweet stuff for a coffee break or snacks and meals. We had roast beef dinners, the beef was good, vegetables ok but the roast potatoes had been sitting a bit too long. One area that could be improved is that the tea / coffee queue is the same as the single checkout spot. There was only one person serving here, it was lunchtime too, and it creates a real slow bottleneck while your waiting to pay with hot food getting colder by the minute. A bit surprised, they always seem to have plenty of staff working, we've been a few times.Staff attitude is very variable but mostly ok, sometimes really good. It's expensive for what you get, but so are all garden centre cafe's.Although this is a review of the cafe, it must be taken in context that it's part of a very large and good garden centre and not just a destination in itself. The real judgement point is that it's pretty popular, a good indicator.

Took my two boys to see Santa (age 2&4) and they loved it. It was a great family day out the shop was busy but tills were fast flowing as staff were well organised and able to coupe with the pressure. As for Santa's grotto it was amazing when we first arrived to book in to see Santa we were told there was a half an hour wait. With to toddlers you can imagine the panic that set in thinking how are we going to keep them entertained for this long in a queue. But there was plenty for the kids to look at and interact with as we made our way threw the trail on our way to find Santa. Also misses Claus were there a long the way to refuel the kids with a drink and some sweets. I have to say this they elf's were brilliant interacting with the kids and helping keep them entertained as well. Outside there was a petty farm & toy tractors for the kids to play on. Will definitely be returning next year to see Santa.

More of a retail outlet and Christmas shop now than a garden centre. Looking at the ever increasing prices in the shop its more like Harod's now than a garden centre. The plants now seem to take a back seat.Been once for breakfast and it was good but a few times for lunch and not so impressed both with the canteen style food and the prices.Still, the grannies seem to love a day out there.

my wife and i took our 5 year old son along to see santa, on paying £10 for our son to see santa we were then charged £3 each for the priviledge of walking him through some hastily constructed wooden corridors festooned with a few plastic elf`s and plastic reindeer, everything was struggling to stay upright in the strong wind, when we finally reached santa our son was presented with a small book the kind you can buy in a pound store, on leaving we questioned the owner on why we were charged £16 for such a miserable gift, the obnoxious sod stated if you want a free day out take him to bangor, i drivve a taxi for my living and i speak to a lot of people every week, word of mouth can be very powerful for your business and also against it, i have also contacted trading standards as the charges are over the top for what is received, all in all not a great day out

My friends and I go here every week after playing golf and, not only because it is so handy to the golf club, but because the food is so excellent with plenty of choice. Plus there is the added bonus of the lovely shop and garden centre. I also, often bring a church group of seniors of about 18 members, for a full two course lunch. We are never disappointed as the service is always friendly and professional and the food always excellent. This place is very efficiently run.

Food is very nice but nothing exceptional and a tad overpriced. I have been several times and the restaurant/cafe is always very noisy due to its acoustics so not a great place for the hard of hearing. The shop is lovely and worth a look around.

Purchased a groupon deal for coffee and traybake. We showed our voucher and asked if we could have a large Americano. We were informed we could for an extra 50p, which we chose to do. Coffee was excellent, well worth the extra spend. The tray bakes are large and very nice, particularly the fruit squares. Staff all very pleasant. Nice bright airy restaurant, although there are other areas which have a more cosy feel if that is preferred. Also large gift shop, outdoor furniture and plants on site.

We went for lunch around 1.30pm, there was a small queue but it took the staff no time to get through them all, I was told i would have to wait for my baked potato to be made up along with a beef burginoine but by time we paid and got to our table it was right there for us, good sized portions and great that they offer a children's menu, food was very tasty and great selection, staff friendly.

This is a great spot for breakfast, morning coffee or lunch.Portions are generous and it is well priced.Staff are friendly. It is self service and if things are busy you can be caught in a queue with your rapidly cooling lunch on a tray. Perhaps a judgement call as when to join the queue!

Breakfast at Hillmount is our reward for a vigorous hike up the Rocky Road via Gilnahirk and it never disappoints. What makes this place is the friendly staff who always take good care of us even when we turn up in our hiking shoes, redfaced and out of puff. The cooked breakfast is lovely but it would be good if Gluten free bread was offered as an alternative. The only other GF snacks are prepacked cereal bars. That aside, there is a reasonable amount of choice and some excellent beverages. I love sitting out on the terrace which is screened from the wind. One thing I am always intrigued by is the unique music soundtrack which seems to be a mix of little known 90s ballads which keeps my ear busy. A browse around the excellent shop makes for a lovely morning out, testified to by the popularity of the garden centre with customers.

Great food & friendly staff. Beautiful view over Strangford Lough. Huge dining room & can sit outside if the weather's good. We had seafood chowder with wheaten bread and chilli chicken strips with salad and chips - both delicious. The mango "lemonade" was not lemonade - tasted like very sweet mango syrup in sparkling water - maybe give it a miss.

Hill mount is situated some way out of Belfast in the hills. There is a large locally owned garden centre incorporating a cafe/ restaurant. The food is good, with ample portions. The restaurant is large.

Loving popping in here for a Sunday roast, the selection of food is great, the amount is fabulous, with an overflowing plate it is hard to squeeze in a dessert but a great selection of traybakes to choose from also. The staff are always very quick and efficient and even if it seems busy with a queue you can always be guaranteed a seat just in time for sitting.

Used to love visiting this gardencentre and restaurant. Sadly on my last visit the quality of the food has detiorated from a year ago. Staff, including management are not pleasent to general customers (may well be all over a few of their friends) and generally do not have a pleasent manner, they would walk over you before they would speak to you It would be wrong to call Hillmount a garden centre anymore. It must be one of the worst examples of a garden centre in the country with awful plant selection compared to other superior gardencentres in Ireland

Had morning coffee. Nice scones and cappuccinos. My grandson had a sausage roll and chocolate bun which he consumed readily ( as aged 3 sometimes picky eater). Great seating area. Child friendly. Staff very friendly and were intent on making sure we saw the little lambs and rabbits at the back of shop (good to point out particular points of interest). Great for plants, garden equipment and gift shop for that 'little special something'

Lovely food in a large roomy restaurant. As with all self service hot food bars, you need to be there at the right time in order to make sure the food is hot. Our meal looked lovely, as always, but on this occasion it was not warm and therefore disappointing. Tempted in future to go for a sandwich or a lovely looking dessert with coffee.

Good nourishing food with quite a selection for for everyone. The restaurant is spacious and it is nice to look out at the fields. Good sized helpings including potatoes and veg. Sweets are OK. We have tended to come before or after the main lunchtime rush, as this is a very popular spot.

Only disposible cups used, which just end up blowing around outside and making a mess. Supremely wasteful and unnecessary. A real shame that an establishment in such a nice setting is so environmentally unfriendly.

Went for lunch with my wife and son. Staff were super attentive upon arrival and seated within minutes. Drinks ordered and order placed all within 5-10 minutes of being seated. The wife went for the special which was salted chili bites with skin on skinny fries and side salad, son had sausages and chips and I had bacon, brie and red onion marmalade panini with skinny fries coleslaw and side salad. Picture below. Overall total was around £30 which wasn't too bad for two big plates of lunch and coke zero and child's lunch. Highly would recommend The Secret Garden to anyone looking for a high quality meal in the Dundonald area.

I only discovered this hidden gem with an online search. We loved it! Quirky wee place with friendly staff and properly good coffee. My husband loved the toasted scone and my caramel square was exactly how I remembered them!
