Upon entry of the casino we received fantastic service on the bar and the restaurant. The food was very tasty and the service was friendly and quick. Very much recommended to visit. A+ restaurant.

Swarkestone Nurseries is awesome! I love coming here, whether for a browse or for something specific. With knowledgeable and friendly staff, and a wide selection of indoor and outdoor plants and accessories, why not finish your visit with a lovely cream tea? Yum!

I love this setting and have only had coffee and cake there before but today was a really disappointing experience. I took my friend out for her Birthday & we ordered a full breakfast. I was so looking forward to it. We had a few places in mind & I though this is a fab little setting so let’s pay a bit more and have an enjoyable experience. We ordered two full English breakfasts at £13.50 & what arrived did not live up to the photos or my expectations. There was plenty of food but the it was not great. The poached eggs were hard, the black pudding, bacon, hash brown and sausages was as h greasy & hard as cardboard. I had a really thick end pieceof black pudding and my friend had a burned wafer thin slice that she could not eat. The whole plate was greasy and you could taste the fat oil & nothing else. The man sat across the other side was using the napkin to soak up the grease on his plate & felt his beans to see if warm. The young girl on the till was very pleasant and friendly and that’s what I noticed going in. She said she was the Asst Mgr but she just lacked experience. She offered us a full refund which was great however we just wanted a nice breakfast. She apologised & advised me that the chef had some personal issues which I sympathise with but when you are a business you need customers & I have to be honest & say I would not have breakfast there again. The chefs clothes was filthy & no uniform was provided. He kept going out the back scratching his head. When you open a business, you need to look after it in order for it to stay open. I think this little cafe is better as a coffee shop or bar, but not for food. I would certainly not recommend breakfast there. If Management could train staff, provide a uniform & be present then this could be a great little spot as breakfast is not difficult to execute. I could have made my friend a top breakfast at home for 1/3 price with freshly squeezed orange & ice would have saved us this experience. I hope this feedback is taken as constructive feedback and actions taken to ensure uniform is provided & meals are served to a high standard to meet pricing. My phone was at home charging luckily otherwise I’d happily attach photos.

Please note that this cafe is no longer called Mad Hatters and is now the Waterside Cafe. The staff are friendlier and the food is lovely, they open at consistent times (handy as the toilets are only open when the cafe is). There was a lot of fuss when Mad Hatters lease was not renewed and the catering taken on by Derby City Council but it has in my opinion improved.

Great location, food is good, people are lovely but there never enough of them. They have an excellent outdoors garden but trying to get a drink at the bar just takes forever and it's the same everytime. It used to be the place you'd walk to for a pint in the garden in summer but unfortunately not any longer.
