Lovely setting for this country pub. Large car parking area. Lovely decor internally with a small kids area inside. Warmly greeted by Tracey who showed us to our table, asking us on the way if either of us had allergies! Great practice, I listened and all customers were asked the same on entry. Immediately asked us if we would like to order drinks. Very prompt service. Three choices of menu, the Easter lunch menu, three courses, the normal menu and a limited special meal of Tom Shepherd’s Best Ever Pub Pie! Well the special pie was my husband’s choice but I had the lamb rump, this came with a mini pie of its own. Both meals were complete coming with a mixed veg and potatoes, the pie with mash and the lamb with rosemary roasted and a gravy saucepan for each meal. I have to say this was the best “pub grub” we had eaten in a long time! Absolutely delicious, we both ate everything! The Tom Shepherd pie was full of meat, with a layer of potatoes, never seen a pie so full! Highly recommend this limited gastronomic delight! My husband ordered a dessert of apple and cherry crumble, which came with a jug of creamy custard. I had a taste of this and again delicious 😋 Not been to this pub in years but would highly recommend a visit and we will definitely go again to explore the menu further! Great dining experience !

We went there a year ago. We had a fantastic lunch, served with a smile, even though everyone was busy ... So, being in the area again, we thought we'd drop in for lunch again. We were NOT disappointed. The steak sandwiches are absolutely to die for! Fantastic chips - thrice cooked, I think. Lovely, friendly, welcoming service. Good value. You can't beat this place for lunch.

Was celebrating my twins 21st birthday, due to us living in leicestershire and most of our family from Derby we decided on crewe and harpur Quick to take a drinks order and quickly served by a very pleasant gentleman. Food ordered taken from a lady who frankly looked bored and fed up... when the food arrived my daughters startedr came with sauce. When told twice she wanted it plain...this was replaced 20 minutes later ... then her dinner came again asked no vegetables At all just sausage and potatoes.... again it came with vegetables and no bacon bits on the dinner ... asked if it came with onion gravy .. she said yes il get you some ... came back with just plain gravy.we then had to wait for cutlery... staff apart from the drinks gentleman looked totally fed up and just no awareness of customer waiting to order drinks ... will definitely think twice about going back ... very unimpressed... No Interaction with customers looked like she was more interested in the computer set up near the bar

We alway meet here as a group of old girls that were at school far too many years ago! Tracey Locke is always very accommodating as sometimes extras turn up or some can’t make it. We always fell very welcome and the whole team make our visit as stress free as possible! They manage to get between 10 and 20 meals out all together and no one has ever had cause to complain about anything. The food is always lovey and great value! We will definitely be back! We took elderly parents for lunch to The Crewe & Harper We all shared a camembert to start (which was very nice). Then between us we had Sea Bass x 2, Scampi & Chips & a mixed grill...all very nice. The pub was very busy so I would recommend booking ahead. We all would recommend to friends & family

The lady who greeted us was lovely friendly and funny !! Our table was nice the waitress was attentive and friendly.I can't give you any negativity as there was none

I was stood at the cash register for around 20 minutes before the 2 members of staff stood behind me just chatting decided to serve me. I ordered drinks on the app that I had to ask about twice to come out to our table on the patio, the steak my partner had was over cooked and the lamb I had was cold, the sautéed potatoes underneath the lamb was mush and not crispy. I asked a member of staff but was told it was due to the weather and how busy they were, which is a poor excuse because if you serve food, love and passion should be put in every meal. I have been twice to the Crew and Harpur this year for food and both times I have had a bad experience, I will come back most likely but it will only be for drinks in the garden.

Good value for money with 30% voucher, the starters were very good and the new lamb dish was excellent. A little to much batter on the fish but the fish was good. Would have preferred British steak rather than Brazilian as offered. The staff were excellent but due to a very busy restaurant had to wait a bit to long between courses. Overall we will return however,

We had a lovely meal with friends. Two of us had seabass, one had chicken and bacon pie and another had lamb. The food was very nice, with a lovely selection of vegetables but although the lamb was very tasty, by the time the fat was removed, there was little meat left. The mini pie was hollow and had very little content. But we had a 30% off mains voucher so we left satisfied. I'm not sure that we would pay over £20 for the lamb without a voucher. Clare,Shi,Kayleigh and Steve were pleasant and attentive. Overall, a great experience

I have now tried all the new items on the menu. I have enjoyed them all so much I am going to start again and go through them 1 by 1.

Been numerous times over the years, nice pub and atmosphere. Most recent visit, however, fell rather short - took a long time to order and receive food and the bill. The biggest issue we had was the lack of dairy free/vegan desserts. One of our party is lactose intolerant, so vegan desserts are perfect. The listed option for him was a crumble with vegan icecream (listed as such on the menu) but when we asked, the staff member told us that they had stopped doing the icecream and there was no other alternative. So, they advertise a vegan crumble but no custard/cream/icecream to accompany it.... so he would have half a dessert for full price, and frankly, who wants to eat crumble on its own...? This is really poor Crewe and Harpur - you really need to look at this and do better. From previous experience, I expected more

Staff unfriendly, felt customers were a burden needs staff training or a manager, everyone rushing to little effect, no pepper on tables.

It seemed as though they were short staffed or hadn’t got enough staff on shift. The restaurant was busy and I had to wait 5 mins to be seated, 20 mins for a drink and over an hour for food. No one apologised for why it took so long and I ate my mains and paid and left. I would have ordered desserts but it was getting late.

Today was our first time visiting Crewe and harpur and we will definitely be visiting again! Tracey the manager is absolutely lovely and you can tell she is good at her job! Very attentive and made sure we were happy at all times. The food was amazing and reasonably priced and the atmosphere was lovely and cosy :) I especially recommend the chocolate dome for pudding, it’s divine!! Think we’ve just found our new favourite place :)

Lovely staff , very attentive , can't comment on the food as only called in for a couple of pints.

We arrived without a booking and were seated within minutes of arrival. Our drink order was fulfilled in a very timely manner by our courteous and polite server, Gracie. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the buttermilk chicken burger. The sweet chilli sauce was unreal. We will definitely be back

Great country pub just 5 mins off the A50, on our drive up to Macclesfield. Delicious lunch menu and very friendly staff, who provided excellent service.

Service of staff was excellent, very friendly & made you feel like you were a long term customer. Food & choice of food was excellent. Decor & layout of restaurant was completely relaxing.

Like most Marston pubs if could do with a revamp. Charging silly prices for generic pub food! Same food as The Bridge Inn in Shelton Lock but double the prices!

Stayed at this delightful pub for a night. Had a beautiful family room which has been converted from the original stables. They have a fantastic river garden to while the afternoon away with a glass of wine and a book. A group of 8 of us had dinner in the evening. Everyone agreed it was delicious and the service was great. Breakfast is well worth a stop as well. Delicious yoghurt, berries and honey followed by Avocado, poached egg and bacon on toast. Was served by the delightful Shy who couldn't have been friendlier and knowledgeable. Will definitely return.

Had drinks in the beer garden here on the first sunny Sunday of 2025. Plenty of outside tables available, but I don't think this place was prepped for the nice weather. A lot of tables with empty glasses on them and the bar had sold out of crisps! Still a nice place for a beer, next to the river.

Greeted warmly on entry and taken to our table. Drinks arrived straight away once ordered. The menu was full of options for all tastes. I got offered a choice of sauces with my meal but wasn’t told it would cost extra. Many other restaurants include this in the price. The meal arrived promptly and we were offered more drinks. The meal was cooked really well. We didn’t have deserts as I am disabled and had to get home for medication but we will definitely be returning again. Prices are good £20 for a mixed grill I thought was great value for money. There are two areas, the bar and the dining area the bar does allow dogs which is great for people who can’t leave their dog at home alone. The dining area is separated one smaller areas giving privacy to everyone. Would I come back? Most definitely and with friends next time. Enjoy your meal x

Myself and my husband were dining with a couple of friends. We have never visited previously but will be sure to return. My husband is celiac and they had a whole separate menu for him but it’s the staff that are the real hidden gem. So friendly and welcoming. We were greeted by Georgina and looked after by Adele. ( a waitress who had taken such great off us previously). They helped us choose a gluten free option on the lunch menu for my husband so he could be included with us. We had the budget friendly lunch menu and I had the fish goujons were beautifully crisp and the fish soft and flakey. He had gammon with a fresh runny egg. All four of us had the sticky toffee for afters , which was so light and soft. I want the recipe. We were told upon paying that the chef that had cooked for us was Bertie. We cannot wait to return and sample more of his cooking. A weekend menu was mentioned so we will be booking in soon.

We chose to try the 3 course menu. Cheesy garlic mushrooms were very good, as was the sea bass, and the sundae dessert was also very nice with plenty of ice cream. All 6 dishes we had were well presented and cooked. We last visited last summer, and we thought the food was much better - so compliments to the new chef. Everyone who was working there were very pleasant and helpful, and seemed professional, getting things done without rushing around. Not a vast selection of cask beer, but pedigree well kept. Also had banks bitter. Plenty of parking, and there is also an hourly bus service that stops at the door (2. Derby - Melbourne -Swad) and runs into evening.

We had a booking. Quickly shown to our table and drinks order taken immediately. Ordered a valentine's set meal and steak/pie meal. Pate starter was lovely. I ordered rare steak but came out medium. Had brownie pudding which we enjoyed. Nice atmosphere and decor. Will definitely return but not for steak.

I Haven’t been to Crewe and Harper in years and used to come here as a kid when it used to be a wacky warehouse (I believe it was anyway). Came here for a family Sunday meal as they have a family area with some play activities to keep the kids distracted. We were welcomed by a friendly host who showed us to our table, which was a nice welcome. The table was a ‘scan at table’ to purchase your food and drinks; however, the website wouldn’t work (as seen in the photos) after multiple attempts, so we had to go to the bar to order. We had the signature beef burger with a side of onion rings, and our two children had the chicken dippers, chips, and beans. For drinks, I was really looking forward to having the Hawkstone larger on tap; however, the bar staff advised that they no longer provide this, even though (his words) it was a huge success, but Marstons have decided to not continue with it anymore, which doesn’t surprise me as I used to work a long side Marstons who don’t really listen to customer feedback (my opinion), so we went for a San Miguel instead. Our meals were really nice, and the children’s meals went down nicely too. We finished the evening off with a vanilla cheesecake, chocolate brownie, and a fruit salad for dessert, which hit the spot. Will look into returning in the summer as they have a great beer garden!

I called into the bar having just been offered a new job and wanted to treat myself to lunch. I was welcomed by Sam, who very quickly found be a table in a quiet part of the bar and took my order after a few minutes of me reviewing the extensive menu. I decided on the Sea Bass filets for my main course, and was not disappointed! It was cooked to perfection by Bertie and was accompanied with prawns, mixed greens, garlic and rosemary potatoes with the most beautiful sauce. Its often disappointing when you order fish in a pub, but on this occasion it absolutely lived up to the expectations of the description on the menu. Shi, Sam and Bertie were incredibly helpful and a credit to the team!

This eating establishment has gone down hill so much over the last 4 yrs. We went for a meal and although there was plenty of tables available although it was in the evening and they told us the only table we could have was nr the drinking part where they allow dogs. I was not impressed at all. Eventually two people just walked in and sat down at their chosen table, then they did let us have a table. The food was only average. Will not return.

We booked a table for six for a modest wedding celebration and the staff dressed our table beautifully without being asked, including a complimentary bottle of prosecco! Service was excellent, good food at a reasonable price too. Very enjoyable experience had by all. We will visit again.

Excellent food Great atmosphere

Tried the new menu, lunch time deal on 3 courses. Very pleased with food and good value. Sammi looked after us, attentive and friendly. Only one thing to improve was when we asked for the bill, it arrived very promptly but then we were left for at bit too long before someone asked if we needed the card machine. This wasn't Sammi our server, but another member of staff. Could have asked this when delivering the bill. All in all, well worth a visit.

This is a lovely pub and the staff are really friendly and helpful. Me and my friend do like coming here as it is halfway between us both. But for some reason they don't do jacket potatoes 🤷🏻‍♀️ And the chef does not know how to cook steaks. Two times we have asked for medium for both of us and they both come well done. The 1st time we mentioned it they gave us free coffee. The 2nd time we did not mention it as we didn't want anything free, we just wanted our steaks cooked properly. Next time we go we might ask for rare and then hopefully they will come medium

The staff were all very friendly and helpful making the experience lovely. The starters were fantastic especially the baked feta dish. The mains were enormous and very tasty, good value for money. The issue came with desserts. Me and my partner ordered two Triple Chocolate Brownies. His seemed to be perfectly fine. Mine was dry and undercooked. I had trouble even getting the spoon in and when I did the whole thing crumbled. Its advertised as triple chocolate but tasted bland and dry. Was very dissapointed to see this. Overall a nice place and we would go again only next time we will not be staying for desserts.

I've been here on a number of occasions and always found the food to be very tasty. Clare and the rest of the team always make us extremely welcome.

It's the staff that make this a good place to eat, very welcoming, helpful and genuine. The place is a credit to the cleaners too. Cost for a hotel room is very good value, so are the meals.

From the moment we walked through the door to finishing our meal was a great experience. The meal was prepared beautifully and served at a pace that allowed us to digest the previous course. Regrettably due to COVID we missed this pleasure last year. Hopefully we will be able to do the same again for Christmas 2022.

Had a superb Christmas lunch with all the family, 8 of us including the grandchildren. 3 courses in total, the food was excellent as was the service, clare looked after us and was very attentive. Could not fault a single thing about the afternoon. Already planning our next visit. Great quality food at a reasonable price.

Decent pub/restaurant experience

Came here for Boxing Day Dinner. Didn't have high expectations as it was a Marstons Pub. BUT welcomed with a friendly smile and quickly shown to table. Drinks order swiftly sorted and soon served. We had pre-ordered but someone checked our order and starters were soon with us. Rest of meal flowed smoothly and I have to say the quality of the food was far better than I expected. No "plastic" vegetables or grainy meat. All very enjoyable. Well Done!!

Accommodation is comfortable but a little on the budget side. The food was terrible for evening meal and breakfast so this place seriously needs to up its game with food quality and the way it’s prepared and cooked. Staff are lovely and very helpful but the food sadly does let it down.

Had a superb Christmas lunch for 8 people. Everything was cooked and presented perfectly. The only thing that was missing was horseradish sauce to accompany the beef.

We booked Christmas Lunch at Crewe & Harpur at Swarkestone and had the best time. Simply wonderful from start to finish. We were warmly greeted and, even though we were very early, the front of house team looked after us really well. The table/serving team were brilliant and nothing was overlooked, even a specific plating request. The food was delicious and portion size was extremely generous. A Massive WELL DONE and THANK YOU to all at Crewe & Harpur (Swarkestone), you made our Christmas Lunch very special and far surpassed our expectations. Thank you so much. Keep up the good work.

Christmas Day Ruined by obnoxious staff. Oh dear. Having been a regular patron for over 10 years the continued arrogance of the management appear to have forgotten the importance of a local pub to the locals which frequent it and recommend it for special occasions and corporate meals on a regular basis. Having checked the website for opening times my guest and I arrived for a pre Xmas day lunch drink. We walked into to the quiet friendly bar and gestured to the familiar faces and dog walkers. Happy to see it wasn’t busy and we could grab some festive cheer before returning home in time for celebration dinner and the pre-negotiated washing up duties. How disappointing it was to be greeted by an overly stressed looking manager which instead of wishing us a Merry Christmas abruptly insisted that the bar was only open to guests who had made a reservation. Perhaps it would be wise to publish this on the same website which offers a welcoming and friendly pub atmosphere. I will happily take my business elsewhere. From the looks of the festive food on people’s tables and their displeasure; I imagine many of the customers will wished they stayed at home too. My service recommendation. If you find the hospitality business at Christmas too challenging, stay home and pay someone else to do it.

We joined you for the Gruffalo Breakfast on Christmas eve and it was a wonderful experience for the 3 children in our party! Most of the staff were very helpful and friendly (the person leading the Gruffalo was lovely and patient) and my son loved the story and puppet show! The food came incredibly quickly and all orders were perfect. Overall a great experience!

We went to the Gruffalo breakfast yesterday and were very disappointed both with the quality and choice food and the event itself. Although there is an extensive choice on the menu only pancakes or cooked breakfast was offered which when arrived was cold and why were hot drinks served in paper cups? The Gruffalo did not come to each table to meet and greet and the actual puppet show was very poor. We didn't complain at the time as we had our Grandchildren with us but you really need to up your game . I would like some feedback on my comments

This pub could and should be so much better. Most of the staff do not seem bothered. Dirty tables, full of crisp packets and empty glasses. It was like this when we got there and the same when we left an hour later. Our visit was at 3pm on Friday 13th. On a positive the lamb koftas were very good. Wouldn't recommend unless someone takes charge and starts to own the space. We have been to too many pubs recently, where there appears to a lack of leadership. This is my honest and truthful opinion.

Me and my family went last night when there was a tribute act on. We had booked online with no idea this was on and all booked the Christmas meal. When we went to pay the bill they charged us £10 EXTRA EACH because of the entertainment. It was “part of a package” which we were not made aware of. We will not be coming back here after being conned like this.

I would like to express the warm welcome received by staff during our stay, Clare, Georgia and sammy were professional kind, even though they were experiencing a high footfall of customers nothing was too much trouble, these girls are excellent examples of what Marston’s Inns are all about and the reason the company has great success !

We booked last minute for a table at 9pm and had a lovely evening! We all chose from the festive menu. We were impressed by the quality of the food, and the options. As a vegetarian, it was lovely to have a dish with all the Christmas trimmings! Allergies were catered for with confidence. The staff we all so lovely and friendly, and the pub had a lovely Christmas feel!

Food was lovely. We all enjoyed our meals. Staff were friendly and helpful however they seemed a bit short staffed but staff did an excellent job. Great atmosphere.

We have now been to the Crewe and Harpur a few times and each time my wife and I have received excellent service with a smile. This time it was Georgia and Sammi who served us - we couldn't fault them. They gave us a few minutes once we were shown to our table before one of them (sorry can't remember who) came to our table and took our drinks order - they didn't rush us at all and put us completely at ease. The food was delivered in good time which once again was gorgeous.

The staff were very friendly and the food was lovely, once I got all parts of my trio of roasts 🫣 our experience was spoilt by the mardy couple who sat next to us. They clearly didn't want to be sat with families with children (who were all impeccably behaved I hassen to add), as they just sat there starring at us and our little one who was quietly watching a movie and were clearly put out by being placed there. If you don't want the table just say as I am sure the staff would of moved you!

Recently attended for the Harry Potter quiz night and the effort made was impressive!

Our waitress was Clare and she was extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome. Our coffee was made by Danny and it was delicious. Overall, we had a lovely time

Trying to organise a party for 25 with three courses when your not the best with technology is a little daunting but I needn’t have worried as Georgia at the pub helped me sort it out. We arrived at the venue to find we had been accommodated a part of the pub where we could all be together. The staff were very helpful and friendly when dishing up the meals and even when we found that a member was tucking into someone else’s choice the staff were more than happy to serve up to extra plates Everyone in the party had a wonderful time and all gave a thumbs up on the food. We would just like to say a huge Thank you to tracey and the team and say we would recommend the venue for families or parties x
