I tried for a week to book my birthday brunch with friends - 2 emails, 5 or 6 phone calls. No response to emails and the phone went straight to messaging service. Fortunately, we were able to get a table on the day. However, when I tried to speak to the manager about it, so I could understand how to book in future - fully recognising that she could be busy and offering the choice for her to grab me when she was less so - I got a rude 'she won't be available for 3 hours'. Someone else was able to explain that the phone was out of order, but there was no reason for the lack of response to emails. And then the food - I ordered American pancakes, paying £6.95 (full price) despite asking for no bacon but a bit extra maple syrup as I'm vegetarian. I got three of the tiniest French pancakes - about 6cms each. When I flagged this to the waitress, she was very apologetic and offered to take them back but said I'd only get the same if I asked for new ones, which sort of suggests they're brought in not made on the premises - American pancakes they definitely were not, and certainly not worth the money - I went home hungry. Last time I came, my vegan friend was given a meat sausage but everyone can make a mistake. However, that's it for me - never coming to this place again

Visited for the first time. First impression was pretty good. Nice inside and the lighting made it feel cosy and inviting on a wet autumn night. Drinks were a reasonable price, but that is where the plus side ends, I'm afraid! We sat upstairs as there was no room downstairs. The tables felt sticky and dirty. The place had so many kids in, it felt and sounded more like a nursery than a place for adults to enjoy a drink at the end of long week. Children almost broke a table while their parents happily ignored what was going off and a man from another table ended up helping them whilst the parents sat laughing about it. Then there was THE dog.... Why oh why do such small places allow dogs in... It was bark, bark, bark.... Again not what you want after a long week at work trying to have a quiet pint and chat as a couple. Not only that, there were very delicious looking cookies and bakes open on the counter, where the dog proceeded to shake (and I re-iterate it was a WET autumn day) well... If you want to eat those after being open to wet dog shake.... Good luck to you. Absolute turn off. Won't be back. Sick of everywhere allowing this!!!! It is not ok, it is not hygienic, it's disgusting 🤢🤮

I love this setting and have only had coffee and cake there before but today was a really disappointing experience. I took my friend out for her Birthday & we ordered a full breakfast. I was so looking forward to it. We had a few places in mind & I though this is a fab little setting so let’s pay a bit more and have an enjoyable experience. We ordered two full English breakfasts at £13.50 & what arrived did not live up to the photos or my expectations. There was plenty of food but the it was not great. The poached eggs were hard, the black pudding, bacon, hash brown and sausages was as h greasy & hard as cardboard. I had a really thick end pieceof black pudding and my friend had a burned wafer thin slice that she could not eat. The whole plate was greasy and you could taste the fat oil & nothing else. The man sat across the other side was using the napkin to soak up the grease on his plate & felt his beans to see if warm. The young girl on the till was very pleasant and friendly and that’s what I noticed going in. She said she was the Asst Mgr but she just lacked experience. She offered us a full refund which was great however we just wanted a nice breakfast. She apologised & advised me that the chef had some personal issues which I sympathise with but when you are a business you need customers & I have to be honest & say I would not have breakfast there again. The chefs clothes was filthy & no uniform was provided. He kept going out the back scratching his head. When you open a business, you need to look after it in order for it to stay open. I think this little cafe is better as a coffee shop or bar, but not for food. I would certainly not recommend breakfast there. If Management could train staff, provide a uniform & be present then this could be a great little spot as breakfast is not difficult to execute. I could have made my friend a top breakfast at home for 1/3 price with freshly squeezed orange & ice would have saved us this experience. I hope this feedback is taken as constructive feedback and actions taken to ensure uniform is provided & meals are served to a high standard to meet pricing. My phone was at home charging luckily otherwise I’d happily attach photos.

Lovely barmaid - fab drinks and great aesthetically! BUT it was like Aston on Trent’s Play group! Kids everywhere running, doing handstands! Parents oblivious! Their enjoyment crucial, managing their kids behaviou not good! Such a pity! A wonderful environment BUT not a Crèche! - the management needs to decide what they are trying to create! We would have spent the whole evening, but having worked with youngsters all day, we come out for calm and an adult environment?! We won’t be back sadly

I don't often write bad reviews but sometimes I hope that those who run a business might receive feedback and do something about it (rather than getting defensive)! We decided to go out of our way slightly to get to Notsa rather than go to a motorway service station but alas, it was far from great. We ordered a toasted sandwich and sausage, beans, eggs and chips (which if you are in the business of regularly cooking, should be quite hard to mess up). We waited 45 mins for them to arrive. Our coffee came reasonably quickly but the milk arrived 5 minutes after it. The sandwich was dry (they had run out of chutney), there were 3 hairs in my meal, hardly any chips, the egg white was undercooked, I crunched on egg shell quite a bit and the sausages had that slightly off fermented taste. I was ready to give feedback but nobody came back to us after the food was served and as we left, I tried to catch one of the staff member's eyes but maybe they knew how disappointed we were and didn't want to hear it. We were in a rush so left. Had it been easy to feedback, I would not have written this moany review! After we left, we also smelled of chip fat... possibly because we had sat upstairs. All of this was a real shame as the place looks great, the staff are friendly and the place has a pleasant look to it but if the food is rubbish, that isn't enough.

Really bad experience today, cake was stale so returned it for replacement. The cappuccinos were terrible also replaced for equally terrible cappuccinos. Too hot no froth and didn't really taste much of coffee. They need to go on a batista training course. Shan't be going again. £4 for coffee you expect better.

I have only been in Notsa twice. 1st was excellent, no complaints at all. Went in today and I have to say I was disappointed. There was a young woman serving, very slowly. We went in at about 12:30, not one table cleared unless we wanted to go upstairs. We cleared our own table. We got served and we can’t fault the food at all but the waitress didn’t clear any tables in the 50 minutes we were in there. A woman was waiting to be served, the waitress was in her phone in the back. The waitress took a cup of coffee to a customer where there was one dirty cup to be removed but she still didn’t remove it. We will definitely go in again but overall, disappointed today.

Santa experience, booked the Santa experience, 6 adults and 2 children, confirmation by text received evening before. . All booked for 10am, arrived in good time to find all tables down stairs were reserved and upstairs were full, when I enquired where we were sitting the waitress apologised and said no tables available, I asked to speak to the manager who blamed his staff for not reserving a table for us. Basically a shoulder shrug, said there was a table at the front we could ‘squeeze’ into and they would set it up ( they didn’t, I had to search for cutlery) We went and ‘squooze’ into the table. Luckily Santa had been sat at the bar and heard the whole thing, promised to come to our table and fetch the kids for the story and to ensure they were included. Waited. Along time for the cofffee and food. All in all wasn’t what was promised or paid for but Santa saved it from being horrendous, the manager on the other hand was useless, people were turning up for the next sitting and having to walk away. Can’t blame staff, he should haves checked everything before opening. I believe they pretty much refunded most people who booked the experience. That said, food was amazing as always, such a shame the day was a shambles

We have been here a few times and like the concept of the place. The food is usually good as is the evening entertainment… however the smell of the place has really put us off going again! The extraction in the kitchen is not sufficient enough and you leave smelling like you’ve been to a greasy spoon rather than a trendy cafe/bar/restaurant! We could see the kitchen fumes in the air and the smell hits every time you walk in! The Derby Brewing Company need to sort this issue out urgently as it ruins a visit. Needless to say we are tired of having to wash ourselves and our outfits on returning home to get rid of the cooking smells… we won’t be going there again unfortunately.

Visited for breakfast with a friend. Went for the full English a generous portion of grilled bacon, sausages, tomato, mushroom, three hash browns, baked beans, fried egg and a slice of toast. The bacon and sausages were good quality and tasted great. Really enjoyed the food, great surroundings and casual atmosphere. Two areas for improvement, (1) the coffee wasn’t great. They need to serve in the correct size mugs/cups for the coffee - my flat white came in a huge mug and was more like a latte with too much milk to coffee ratio so the taste of the coffee was diluted. (2) The kitchen doesn’t have a door and has extremely poor extraction (if any at all) and consequently all the cooking smells come straight into the cafe meaning you leave completely engrained and smelling of whatever’s been cooked whilst you’re in there (lots of chips) I ended up having to change my clothes for the day and re washing my hair - really not good or acceptable.

It must have been an especially bad day when I visited. 25 minutes to get two coffees! Much of this time was spent queueing to place my order. Plenty of staff around but often nobody taking orders. What credible business does this? When I finally got served, there were no pastries left and I was advise they were no longer taking food orders. It was 11:20 on a Sunday morning and I was in an establishment that advertises itself as a brunch restaurant. I asked for oat milk and was told they had none. I had to point out that I could see it in the fridge. On the plus side, the coffee was fine and the atmosphere good. As the only cafe in the village, it has a captive audience, however this is not a reason to take its customers for granted.

My husband and I went to Notsa for a champagne breakfast as treat for his special birthday. I wanted the smoothie to start with but was told they did not have the ingredients to make smoothies (really!!!). I therefore asked if I could have porridge instead. Although there were choices for the porridge (I just wanted it as it came), I wasn't asked, it arrived with honey and rapberries, far too sweet I couldn't eat it. There were also choices for the type of bread with the toast, again we were not asked it just arrived, with my slightly overcooked poached egg on top. I don't want the egg presented on my toast thank you. The orange juice was cheap and tasted a bit strange. Finally the service was pretty slow. On the positive side, the actual place was great, staff were friendly and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the experience (which is why I didn't want to say anything at the time). I didn't have the heart to tell him I didn't really rate it and I so wanted to enjoy it as much as he did. If offering a champagne breakfast for £25.95, the little things count. Attention to detail is everything. I have had far better elswhere in and around Derby for a similar price. Sorry, I really wanted to love it.

They forgot us!!! And it wasn’t even busy but I suspect distracted with regular customers and chatting - the person behind us in the queue who clearly knew the serving staff - had his food and left before we even got our drinks. When I reminded the person who served me that we were still Waiting-she was sat chatting and had clearly forgotten- I saw her go and find the chef. I have been to Notsa three times now as I dont dislike the place and it’s relatively new-but they really need to learn how to make a flat white if they are offering them - this wasn’t great and hasn’t been each time I have ordered one - I sent the first back. Service clearly needs looking at - don’t think we will go back again.

Good food not the best but very very good. Our waiter was very pleasant. Tbh my portion was a bit on the small side I had the haddock and had to ask for some chips to pad out the meal a bit more. The meals of the guests I was with were better portion sizes if not too much for them. Overall a bit overpriced in my opinion. Would I visit again? Probably, yes. Would I order the haddock meal again? That's a definite No.

Visited Swarkestone nursery for the first time yesterday specifically for Santa’s grotto. On arrival, a few minutes late, the staff were very helpful pointing us in the right direction and we entered the grotto. The staff in the grotto were amazing, the elves, Mrs Claus and Santa were lovely with the children and very in character. There were games to play in the first room, then we went to Mrs Claus’ room to decorate a lovely wooden snowflake to keep, then to see Santa and use your golden ticket to chose a present. My daughter loved the craft activity (usually it’s decorating a biscuit which she can’t join in with due to food intolerances) The rooms were all decorated nicely with decorations and murals. As a parent, this was the nicest, most wholesome Santa grotto we’ve been to. Definitely recommend! The nursery itself is full of lovely gifts and reasonably priced Christmas decorations. All in all, we loved it and will return
