Dog & Duck in South Derbyshire

The atmosphere was good as it was quiz night. My husband’s food was good but mine was slightly burnt. We have been several times a the food is always hit and miss. Sometimes it’s really good and sometimes it’s not

Perfect pub food, order at bar on on the phone. Only complaint was maybe the wait was a bit long, but the food was worth it!

Had a lovely roast dinner at the Dog and Duck. Was the nicest roast we have had at a pub! Was very pleasantly surprised and highly recommend. The staff were very accommodating and friendly, we will definitely be back! Thank you, Jodie & Ant Xx

Called in for drinks and would have ordered food. However after being informed (purely by chance) that there were 2 snakes in the pub, we immediately left. For someone who has a severe phobia of snakes as I'm sure others are, it would have been better if there was a sign on the door pre warning. I'm not sure if they are a permanent resident or whether a customer had brought them in, we didn't stay to find out.

Staff were helpful and friendly. Craft items for the children in the party. Food value for money and good too.

I have been going now for months and everytime me and my friend go the staff are very friendly you can have good banter with them the food always hot very tasty and value for money they have never put a foot wrong

Place was clean and tidy and staff were friendly and helpful. Food was straight out of the freezer very bland and tasteless.

12.10.24 Omg food was cold wen it came out send it back my frends food was still frozen after she had to say this come with Veggie send back Twice so definitely a ping ping job not Worth the money we paid for it £38 we did get a free beer I Would not recommend this place at all . Suggested they get a new chef

Had a little bit of an issue with the food being cooked as 2 of our meals was stone cold however the bar staff worked quickly to get this rectified and Kyra was very friend and warming and tried to keep us happy which we appreciated

Nice and friendly pub, good food

We were a party of 12 walkers. We had a table booked for 9 people but on the morning of the walk 3 extra places were requested. We phoned the Dog and Duck and changed the booking with no trouble. Table for 12 was waiting, all food arrived together with a smile and everybody commented on how good everything was. An excellent experience.

Had an amazing meal today with my parents. As well as the food being really good the service was exceptional. Panna was super attentive and even took our order at the table rather than have to order at the bar. For me little gestures like this go a long way. My mum has mobility issues and this place is great for accommodating that, lots of seating options. Panna was very friendly, polite, and accommodating. Lunch menu (smaller portions) are generous and definitely worth it. I have been here previously under different management and I can say this was the best service and food we have had here.

Love this pub. Marston’s Pedigree on tap, also other good beers and IPA selection. All the food is good, especially burgers and pies and curries are actually spicy. Lovely garden and outdoor eating. Game room. Reasonable prices. Can’t go wrong!!

Friendly attentive staff. Excellent pint of Wainright’s and a decent quality Malbec. The steak pie was very good but my wife thought that they was too much pastry for her

We had booked this meal a couple of weeks ago. Staff were very friendly but overall a bit disappointed, my partners food looked lovely which he said it was so that was 5 stars, but my food sadly had a dark hair in it, I told a member of staff and she took the food away (I didn't want to make a fuss in front of other people eating) so said it discretely, she profusely apologised and offered me either the whole meal again (which I couldn't stomach again), or a free drink/pudding... I chose the pudding but in all honesty I would have preferred a refund as this was a £16 meal (although we paid via a Marston's gift voucher), did feel unfortunately disappointed with this experience :( despite that lovely pub and other people's food looked great. Perhaps other's would have asked for a refund but I struggle with anxiety and didn't want any confrontation.

Went with my wife (my first time, she has been before) for Sunday Roast. They had my favourite beer on (Razorback) so I was immediately happy 😊 The staff were friendly, the decor and atmosphere relaxed and the food was great. Recommended.

Went for our anniversary on 1 9 2024 very disappointed ordered six meals four came and were finished before the last two came and the food was not that good we did not stop for a pudding colin

Beautiful place to sit down and eat. Had issues the first time we visited but we were given the chance to try again and the food was absolutely incredible. So their customer service satistfaction is absolutely on point, and the food was pretty tasty too, i completely finished my plate which doesnt happen super often.

Came with my mother, Kathryn was very helpful and informative to assist her with her gluten free needs. Kathryn also helped us to find the GF Christmas Day Menu for us to look at and decide

We had nice food and wonderful cocktails served by Kathryn. Kathryn was friendly and efficient. The Dog and Duck is a nice place to stop for lunch after a nice walk.

Food was okay, but our server Kiara was fantastic, she was welcoming, warm, polite and attentive, couldn’t have asked for better from the service there!

Attitude & service of the waitress was appalling. She dropped sauce all over the table, didn’t attempt to clean it up, left us with no cutlery, waited so long the food went cold. When she did eventually bring the cutlery she slammed it down in the sauce she had spilt with such attitude it was unbelievable. We couldn’t wait to leave. Hasten to say NEVER going back. Definitely a no no! Discussing service !

We ordered food but realised after that we were over charged.. They did not give us the kids meals for 1pound as advertised they overcharged for drinks I got a can off vimto £1.80 wow even for a pub that a bit pricey... The lady who served us was slow at taking our order and to be honest did not explain that the alternatives that she offered we had to pay extra and to top it all off they didn't have eggs.... I ask you can no one pop to local shop get some 😂. The pub itself clean and tidy such shame we had such a dihesrjng experience

A group of 9 booked for a meal at lunchtime, we were very disappointed with the food. The vegetarian Thai curry was ordered & it was described as being made with sweet potato, sugar snap peas, red peppers, there were actually 2 small cubes of sweet potato, 1 sugar snap pea & 2 small pieces of red pepper. The portion of rice was tiny. When we complained to the waitress she told us that it had been ‘ cooked to speck ‘. The gammon that was also ordered was so overcooked it was almost inedible. At no time did anyone of the staff care that we were disappointed with the meal.

Went in for some drinks the other day and was served by Sarah on the bar who was excellent!

Visited tonight Saturday 10th August, Jess greeted us and took our drinks order she was very friendly and attentive, drinks arrived promptly food order taken by jess, food small portion for the price but nicely presented, desert rocky road sundae was nice, drinks taken into the garden lovely setting Jess the lovely waitress gave us the sun glasses we had left on table, thankyou and also thankyou for your table service such a change from other pubs ordering from the bar great service Jess!!!

For clarity this was not a pre booked meal. It was a walk in, having spoken with others payment at bar at point of order in this instance is a norm, so please read with that context Not one for writing reviews normally and would have let one point pass as the food, when it came was nice. A long day cruising in the land waterways and a need for some good pub grub....... All food ordered and paid for in advance, been a while since I have had to do that, but given the increase on eat and run understandable. Starter great, mains great but a starter ordered as a main did not come we asked and we're told I will look for you.out after 20 mins waitress came over to clear the table and I asked for an update and was told bluntly they were not on the order/receipt, so why did we not get told that when we first asked? So after informing her that it was and was both seen on the order and was verbally confirmed to us she disappeared again. 20 mins later once all bar one of the party had eaten the waitress bought out our missing food and confirmed that they were indeed on the order, so I am left thinking, have I been lied too, was the order not checked and there was a hope we would add to the 3 figure bill by paying twice for food or is my integrity being called into question and I am being accused of trying to get food I have not paid for? no apology was fourth coming and she was clearly embarrassed and stepped back saying the chef missed it and that was only after I asked if it was on the order......... There is then the fact that 2 mains ordered did not come out complete, the southern fried chicken burger states dipping cheese and gravy, I would normally let this slide but having one of our party sit there watching us eat riled me as well as the underlying suggestion in the tone we were trying it on. It is a shame food was pleasant.

Normally we enjoy our visit to the dog and duck , but went for a meal with friends 4/08/24. Our friends steak was very chewy so the staff cooked another fresh one for him which was slightly better. We all had a cold sweet but had to wait 25 minutes for service, they weren’t particularly busy so can’t understand what took so long.

Sat outside today and had a great time .service and food lovely.even got water and treats for our dog.

On the Friday we went there was a singer in the garden which was amazing and a quiz started at 8pm. Such a lovely atmosphere with everything going on. Great selection on food, even for veggies, vegans and diets. Staff were helpful and polite. Would fully recommend!

Had chicken and mushroom pie and it was excellent service was very good atmosphere was spot on Judith served us and was very joyful

Went to dog and duck and had one off the best chicken burgers and Judith who served us was lovely and couldn't do enough for us we will definitely be back again

Greeted by Judith, served by her the whole way through. She is a lovely woman and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our drinks and food, she went above and beyond! This is our 5th date night at the dog & duck and we will be having plenty more. Amazing food and an amazing group of staff

Staff was really helpful and polite, food is really good value for money and tasty, the place is clean and tidy and staff are attentive to clearing the tables Holly the assistant shift manager runs a tight ship, and Felicity is always smiling which is very nice to see.

The member of staff called Holly Payne was exceptional in her work and made us feel welcome.

Friendly, attentive and efficient staff. Good quality, reasonably priced pub food . Plenty of seating and dining areas options well spaced around the pub. Also a Small dog friendly dining area option - which is ok but a little compact. Nice dining areas outside too

Garden is very nice, staff are very friendly - Just wish the menu provided a few healthier / lower calorie options. As a health professional I tend to look for these options. I think other people would enjoy the pub more than me but I still found it to be nice. Good overall!

The Dog and Duck are at the lower end price wise so don't expect silver service or some fancy expensive dinning experience. That said the meals we had were of good quality and size for the cost and the selection of cask ales they had on was excellent. Overall a pleasant evening.

We were amazingly well looked after by Holly, Kathryn and Lynda. Had a great birthday party at the D&D, from drinks to the main meal to the pudding. The staff even sang happy birthday to the birthday girl.

Table of 24 for my son’s 21st birthday. Booking was smooth and easy. Communication with the pub before the party was excellent. The managers suggestion to bring photos on a usb stick to play photos through the tv was an excellent idea and made the day even more special. Food and service was excellent, very friendly and accommodating staff. We spent the best part of four hours at the pub both inside and out. Beautiful outside area with play area for the young ones. Will definitely be returning.

Waited 45 minutes for food. When brought out they'd forgot to put the chicken on my plate (mixed grill)... they'd clearly reheated Mt food in the microwave My medium steak was more well-done. Not the best quality meal I've had to be honest. Staff was lovely though

Pub was spacious & had pretty lights inside & the beer garden looked well kept. After ordering our food we waited for over half an hour but no sign of it & we hadn't been informed of any delays. I asked a member of staff who said she would check. A good 5 mins later our food did arrive...no apology. There was no gravy so had to ask for that...I did get an apology for that. Our food although of large size ( we had the fish & chips & the ultimate chicken burger) was quite tasteless & therefore very disappointing despite having 30% off. Not once did anybody ask if our meal was ok.

Went for father's day with my family, stood at the door for 5mins before someone came to seat us. Was told that we would have to wait 45mins for food, actually took 1hr 10 mins. Ordered fish and chips and got fish and Frys. My son ordered steak and chips and got steak and frys. If we wanted frys we would have gone to McDonald's. Not good 😐

Had a very long wait for food same as last time we visited. Two steaks were ordered, both were tough again as last time. Ordered fish & chips but got fries which was disappointing. Child's chicken dippers was poor, only three small dippers and not many chips. Don't think we will be back in a hurry.

Visited yesterday. It seemed pretty busy while I was there but my server Kathryn made every effort to make sure we had the best experience. If I could give 10 * out of 5 for service I would!

Holly behind the bar was brilliant, very friendly and helpful regarding food choices. Food was great, however we were asked to tip on payment, which was before the food arrived so sadly, no tip. If the owner reads this perhaps tipping after the service has been done might give your staff a fair chance of actually earning a tip? Just saying....
