Where do I start. One is trying to support local business, only to be bitterly disappointed. Management are vile. Their public relation skills are appalling at best. Appalled at the service received. Will have to look elsewhere. Would not recommend.

After a nice walk by the canal we stopped here for food. It was Saturday lunchtime on a bank holiday weekend, the sun was out and we were surprised how quiet it was. Maybe this was a sign.The Al fresco dining menu is not as limited as some other pubs we have visited recently, so that was a good sign. The familiar favourites, such as the Moby Dick and the King Henry steak feature. The options are maybe a little restricted for vegetarians and vegans though. The issues started when it came to ordering. You are encouraged to order using the app. My fiance downloaded that, but be aware that you have to sign up, register and give them your life details before you can proceed! There is also no option to add a note anywhere should you have a specific request regarding your food, so you have to wait and attract the attention of a member of staff anyway. We ordered the large fish and chips and the king Henry VIII special. The food came out in decent time, but it was pretty disappointing. It was nowhere near as nice as it was on our previous visits, when I remember thinking that this pub was becoming one of our favourites. Sometimes I wonder why meals say they are served with peas when the amount of peas that appear on your plate is pretty pointless. Based on that meal I wouldn't hurry back. The quality seems to have gone downhill.

Hopefully all of this is just a bit of opening back up teething trouble, although some of it can’t be excused.Started off well, friendly greeting and shown to our table.Order the food on the app (I prefer this as don’t have to wait for waiters/waitresses if they’re busy).Problems begin at this point:One of the bottles of wine was brought out incorrect - no big deal and waitress quickly sorted it.Food is another matter, requested my steak cooked Rare, it was medium well at best. All the other food came out at different times, one order was completely lost (according to waiter) so they re-did it quickly for him... the steak was still over cooked. Waiter apologised, although could not care less.Later into the evening the staff began to get rude, particularly the younger ones. They seemed to be missing their furlough lifestyle. Our first warning that the night was nearing the end was an abrupt “Hurry and finish your drinks” - not what I’d expect for a party spending a fair amount of money.Also, who serves port with ice in it!?Hopefully they will get these teething troubles sorted.

Our visit on Sat 24th April was very enjoyable. The sun was shining and we were seated in the courtyard protected from the wind. The food and drinks were ordered by the app and service was quick. Our disappointments included only one ladies toilet in operation and no Abbot Ale beerThe toilets should always be working and be in pristine condition and why should I bother going to a pub which doesn't serve my favourite draught beer.

I love the Ragley.. holds a special place from 5 years working for the company Its everything a good British pub should beReasonably priced food suitable for all people and their budgetsHowever, the ordering app is a big let down and could easily spoil a nice family meal.. if you let itI was trained by a member of staff on how to use it.. after that i was off and running.. no further issuesPersonally, id say put some signs up.. maybe an app ordering idiots guide. I could see around me i wasn't the only one having issues and wanting to throw their iphones into the canal

Had a lovely lunch here with my husband and older brother. Two of us had lasagne and my husband had fish and chips. The food was very tasty and served with chips which were nice and hot. Of course, we had to sit outside but it was a fine, sunny day albeit with a strong wind. Lots of people struggling with the app, hopefully this won’t be necessary soon but who knows? Getting signed in on the NHS app was easy but the app for the pub caused a few problems and not just with the elderly. It’s a lovely setting for a pub with the backdrop of the canal. The staff were excellent, polite, patient and pleasant despite the constraints of working under testing circumstances.

Four of us visited last night. Everything very well organised re Covid, tables etc spotlessly clean, social distancing, staff wearing masks, clear signage throughout. The steak was fab; mine was slightly underdone but it was replaced within minutes with one cooked exactly to my liking. The staff were extremely busy but everyone was so helpful without being intrusive. The steak deal is well worth it, we will be back very soon. Thank you.

This was our second post-lockdown visit to The Ragley and we enjoyed it just as much as our first. We were quite surprised to see so many negative reviews recently. On this visit we were able to sit outside in the sun. It's a really lovely and large outside area, right next to the canal. The only downside was the amount of wasps, who were eager to share your food. The service was quick and friendly. We had 3 courses and i can highly recommend the superman mixed grill. It is excellent value for money and the meat was really tasty- especially the lamb.We had our usual desserts of the mintnight rider ice cream sundaes, which is still a favourite. I think next time though we will have to insist the second spoon is taken away. No sharing for us! There is a really good choice when it comes to desserts though, as there is with the rest of the menu. This is somewhere I would recommend to friends and family and i'm hoping to bring my parents soon. I know Dad will love the mega mixed grill.

Came here for some food earlier with my girlfriend and friends and I have never been so appalled In my life. The food used to be so much nicer a year ago, and the service was top quality but today it just felt terrible and the staff didn’t seem to have much effort about them. I ordered the 8oz Sirloin medium rare, when I received my meal, I cut into the steak immediately to find it was more medium well. I am not usually one to complain so I just didn’t see a point and just ate the meal, the chicken I had with the steak was dry as a bone, almost like it had been microwaved, my friend also had the same meal as me and his chicken was rubbery and dry. Quite terrible to see how downhill the food quality has become, I will not be dining here again.

Not sure why there’s so many 1 star reviews as we went for a family meal the last weekend of August and generally everything was very good, the only issue that stopped it being a 5 star review was 13 of us spread over multiple tables and not enough cutlery was initially bought so when our food arrived some of us had to wait on cutlery.

Was recommended to go here..went for a family members birthday...first impressions was lovely settings well kept gardens.. was shown to our table no explanation on how to order (due to covid 19 restrictions) 1 menu between 6..the floor had food all round.. the table had sticky marks on it..we had starters. twice we were asked if we were ready for our mains...when our mains arrived they were dried out and burnt around the edges looked like they had been kept warm for a long time hence why we didn't enjoy our meals...we really should have sent our meals back but I think that would have been a huge inconvenience so we put up and shut up ...no one came and asked if all was OK whilst eating...i was surprised no-one commented on the amount of food left...shame our first impressions was good and ended with such disappointment

Came here for my other half’s birthday. When we arrived we got taken to our table however it wasn’t clean, which I didn’t understand as there were only two other tables upstairs where we were sitting. This resulted us in standing round until it was cleaned. When we finally sat down we were given one food menu between the three of us. I don’t know if this is to reduce the contact between things due to Covid-19 but the menu material was wipeable so realistically we could’ve have been given a menu each. When we got our food it was ok, however there were things like sauces missing which was stated on the menu that it would be accompanied by. My other half was disappointed with his meal. He ordered a fillet steak and asked for it medium rare. It was more medium well and was burnt/crispy on the outside. He ended up leaving a third of it because it was so chewy to eat. A fillet steak should not be like that. Due to the range and amount of steaks presented on the menu I would’ve hoped that it would’ve been cooked properly and to a high standard. When we finished we also had two of the plates cleared and the third was still there as we left. If you’re going to clear a table don’t do half a job. My mother in-law and other half have been to this restaurant before and was quite shocked and disappointed to see how the standards have dropped. It is fair to say that I don’t think we will be coming here again which is sad because it was actually a nice place. The service was just terrible.

Visited Sunday lunch and seem quite. Seated near the bar by a young lad and went to the order the drinks, this is where it went wrong. The bleached blonde hair fella behind the bar was just plan rude and had the worst attitude I’ve seen in a while. A women who was stopping in a canal was served before me complained about him and then he served me he seemed to be angry. Sitting by the bar we got to listen to his be this way to ever customer after me. We finished are drink and didn’t bother eating so can’t comment on the food.

The experience I had at this place was beyond terrible! I am a real foodie and I have eaten at most places in Derby including here many years ago and I really liked it so I thought I would give it another go. Never again! This in my opinion, is the worst pub / restaurant in Derby! Needless to i will never visit again! The customer service is none existent especially from the manager Tracey who shouted at us in front of other diners for trying to raise a complaint about our dirty plates which were not changed by the way, cardboard tasting, cold, bland and less than average pub food (when it finally arrived an hour after placing the order which was a mission within its self,) and the general attitude of the staff. I understand that they were busy but that’s no excuse. If you know you won’t be able to manage then why keep taking bookings? When we tried to get our points across to Tracey she just kept talking over us and cutting in. Her attitude was diabolical and her body language was aggressive. She was not interested in what we had to say at all and kept repeating ‘we are busy’ At one point she shouted ‘I have your card details so I will be charging you the full amount.’ She then walked off. We went after her as we had opened a tab and were no way going to let her charge us £70 odd pound for a bill that should have been almost half of that as we went on a Wednesday as part of the government eat out to help out scheme. A member of staff behind the bar presented us with the full bill which created yet another complaint. After another 5 minutes of arguing about our bill be we’re finally given another bill but had to work out ourselves what we actually needed to pay by deducting the second bill amount from the first one. Bizarre! When I go out for a meal I do expect a certain level of standards as I am sure we all do as we are paying for the overall experience, however this place doesn’t have any standards so if you have certain expectations then you will be highly disappointed. Terrible food, terrible customer service. Zero star rating would even be too much to give this place. Do yourself a favour and avoid this place, spend your money else where!

We went as a family of 6 - 1 of which was a baby. Sat at the table on a hot day with no fans, no open windows - heat and babies do not go well together. But we thought that it couldnt get worse - how wrong we were!1 person taking orders at the till point - we waited 15 mins to be served, why could the 2 members of staff standing at the bar not take our orders?About 45/50 mins into our arrival 1 of our starters came out. Most of the side plates were dirty and had insects on them. We did complain about these but we didnt get a sorry or new plates. Our second starter came out 10/15 mins later after finishing the first.We eventually got our meals - 1.5 hours into being there!The food was not the best.At the time of paying the bill, we made a complaint re service, food and the dirty plates.The manager/ director was confrontational and spoke to us with her hands on her hips - whodoes that?!Re service, she said its busy.Re plates, she said its hot and windows are openRe food, she said, well you had it didnt youOn paying, we were firstly charged full price, then we were given another bill with the discount and told we needed to subtract one bill from the other! The staff member ended up getting his phone out to work out the total!!Safe to say, we will not come gain .. and We decided to go elsewhere for dessert!

Not the best visit we are regularly customers here but Sadler this was not the best visit - met by what can only be described as a very excitable Manager? We arrived at 2.03 for a 2:15 reservation to which he kept announcing they we were far to early ??? Queued for door order and drinks no problem but as you have to take your own drinks to the table once you have taken half the ordeR over the next person is at the glass screen ordering theirs so you are stood waiting whilst trying to get your The rest of your drinks - why don’t they just have the order section just slightly near and at the side place the drinks do you don’t have to return to the Perspex screen to collect - food was not the best ordered just the Cajun chicken with a salad no chips no potatoes no rice no veg - it came with the chicken breast and the usual small usual salad garnish no more salad than normal so basically just the chicken breast - the curry was inedible and we waited for the girl to return to ask If everything was ok but she never returned we couldnt go to the bar as the queue was so long - when she came back it was to collect the finished plates my father hadn’t eaten any of his meal apart from his extra Nan bread and a spoonful of rice ? The waitress said you haven’t eaten you lunch is everything ok we explained the curry didn’t taste nice - she was most apologetic and asked if we wanted something else to replace it but the rest of the group had already finished - no offer of a refund she said the manager had said there was nothing wrong with the food ??? But offers us a soft drink ?? Here the joke -?if we wanted the free drink we would have to queue for it to order it - again long queued at the bar ??? So one meal was fine two not ? Bar staff & waitress all very polite and kind just think they should review the way everyone orders etc - we have been to the Crew & Harpur and the Bubble - in both of these you are seated and a order taken at the table - paid via a portable card reader - or the waiter take your cash and bill at the end to pay - much easier system people in seats not moving around - Usually the Ragley are second to none with good and service and we as a family are great supporters of the place but sadly on this visit I can only say it was poor - But to compensate we were offered a drink ! It not about getting a free drinks it about getting it right in the first place my father left having not eaten at all - come on Ragley Boat stop

I called the restaurant today tuesday 18th of august to book a table the member of staff was very rude and in the mist of trying to have a conversation i got we are fully booked and Had the phone down on me.I then called back the same lady answered said they were booked up Wednesday i asked when are you next not booked up when is your next slot she said go online goverment funding is not on thursday And again slammed the phone down.I called back again for the third time and the call was ended straight away .I called again for the fourth and final time as a regular customer as i just wanted to book a table for me and my wife for one day this week i was not intrested in the goverment scheme.I was again rudely Spoken to and the phone put down yet again.This is absolutely disgusting and the manner i was spoken to was appauling .I will be taking this further !!!!!!!!!!!As a regular i will not be returning to the restaurant untill this individual is repremanded and i recieve a appology .Disgraceful behaviour !!!!

It was a cold greeting, she simply took us to our table without explaining any new process for COVID-19 and placed one menu on the table for 5 of us. The place was stuffy/humid with no AC and none of the windows would open. 3 of us went to the bar to find out how to order and it took 20 minutes to place an order of 2 shared starters, 5 mains and 5 drinks. 40-45 minutes later no starters had arrived. The 2 young looking waiters came across inexperienced and offered no explanation for the delay. Plates were put down on the table and we were told our starters would be 2 minutes. The plates were dirty and 1 of them had 2 live insects on them. One starter arrived. We mentioned the plates and the young boy offered no apology, didn't take them away and simply walked away. The other started didn't arrive until 10 minutes later, when we had finished the first. We had been sat now for over an hour. I told the waiter we were not happy with the service and delays. He offered no apology and just said he would speak to his Manager. No-one asked us how our food was and no Manager approached us. The mains arrived about 1.5 hours after our 12noon booking. My peri peri chicken on the skewer (Espetada) was tasteless and the chicken was dry and hard. My chips were oily so I didn't eat much of my meal at all. We spoke with Tracey to raise our complaints. We were met with a very rude and unprofessional attitude. With arms on her hips she came to us and said "what do you want". She would not accept how late our starters were. Instead she said "well you got it didn't you?" She rudely disagreed with everything we had to say, never offered any apology, told us to eat elsewhere when one of the other guests told her that she worked in a restaurant and this is not how they would deal with customer complaints and that ordinarily a starter should not be later than 20 minutes and when I told her I would be writing a review on tripadvisor, she stated "go ahead". She was raising her voice at all times in the presence of other diners and was very argumentative. She could not exercise any degree of objectivity and was not prepared to listen to anything we had to say. She kept saying "we are busy". This is no excuse. She, as the Director, should manage her staff and customers accordingly.The inexperienced young lad at the till then got the bill wrong by overcharging us by £38. He failed to apply the Government Eat Out Discount and then made out that we would be receiving another bill that would include the discount. So why give us a bill not showing this in the first place? He then presented us with another bill which, again failed to show the total owed. He then had to get a calculator, deduct the discount and verbally tell us what the amount was.The whole experience was very poor, unbelievable and Tracey needs to change her attitude. We would never go there again and would not recommend it to anyone.I complained to Corporate, the Ragley is part of King Henry Taverns, on 12th August. So we booked for 2 families and when we arrived, we was placed on two different tables but once we ask initially about bringing the tables closer we was told that we couldnt due to the covid-19 rules never asked us on the phone what so ever if we was doing the whole social bubble thing but after my mum went and asked the manager or someone we was able to bring our tables together, not once did they take our finish plates or drinks to clear up the table for us for the whole meal my dad did ask for our starters dishes to be taken away and last thing didnt quite appreciate our food being placed down on other peoples tables before being given our to us

Grand country pub tucked away down a country lane ... next too the canal....We decided to overnight at the The Ragley Boat stop in the Motorhome...all they ask is you book a table for a meal. No facilities accessible during pub closing hours so only good if you have your own facilities on board.Food was great portions were good we used the App to order everything with no problem at all.Had a quiet night on the car park with no disturbances.Recommend ***

I was visiting as a family, I have a large amount of children, I asked for a table and the man that spoke to me thought it would be acceptable to give me his opinion on the amount visiting and to state that we would be the reason we would be in lockdown by the end of August. I find this completely unacceptable. He did not know my circumstances so should not have commented. I was following guidelines by not mixing with more than one household so who was he to comment, shame and embarrass me. Safe to say I won’t be visiting again or recommending them to anyone else

We visited today and accept it was busy with the government scheme - food arrived pretty quickly and looked nice - waitress asked if we wanted salt, vinegars, sauces etc so said yes to them as no sauce with steak so needed something. Sat for a few mins, then waited a bit more whilst she cleared an adjacent table and then waited and waited with it becoming clear no condiments were going to be given so decided to eat without as good was starting to go cold. Steaks were lovely but would have been better with something - yes we could have chased but shouldn’t have to. Shame as such a lovely place

My first visit to The Ragley was a pretty positive one. The location- right next to the canal- is a big plus point and there is plenty of outdoor seating to relax and enjoy a meal.We were expecting it to be busy, but the car park is a good size and we were shown to a table pretty quickly. In terms of the main menu, there is a good variety. The starters are around £4-£6, the mains start from £7 up to £30 for 'the titanic' steak option and the desserts range from £1.75 for a single scoop of ice cream up to £6 for the ice cream sundaes. The vegan and vegetarian options, though, were slightly limited in my opinion.We ordered halloumi fries for starters and 'the moby dick' and 'the king henry' for our mains. The food came within a decent time. No issues with the starters. However, I did have an issue with my fish and chips: there was a distinct lack of mushy peas. It was a pretty pathetic portion. There is something wrong when the portion of tartare sauce is bigger than the portion of mushy peas. Aside from that the food was good, especially the chips, which were much nicer than the standard pub-grub type chips. When it came to desserts we were spoilt for choice with my partner saying he had narrowed it down to about 10! In the end the giant sundaes won us over and we ordered one bananadrama and one mintnight rider. These were amazing! Not sure why they came with two spoons though as they were never going to be shared!We would definitely visit again. It offers good food at good value for money, even more so when you take into account the eat out scheme. We had 3 courses and drinks for £32.

We stayed here on a Saturday night early in a July. Large car park so we’re able to park well out of the way. Nice and quiet overnight. Tracey and Craig made us feel very welcome. We ate at the pub in the evening, plenty of choice and reasonably priced. All safety measures were in force so we felt very comfortable and safe. I would highly recommend and will definitely return.

After going to the Ragley every few years for many years now I have some fond memories, however yesterday did not make another! the pint of Abbott I had at £4.25 was not at all good and tasted off which I highlighted to the assistant manager as I would not have been able to take another sip it was sour and clearly not kept well. The starters came on cracked crockery which looked dirty on the outside and the sauce pot on the hoisin rolls had sauce on the outside of the rim and down the side which is a small thing but makes for terrible presentation as any restaurant staff should be aware of. The mains arrived around 40 minutes after the starters were taken away and there was a small fly on the cheese topping of the ‘Middlesborough chicken Parmo’ this dish was extremely bland according to my fiancé so I tried this and honestly I couldn’t of eaten it without the cheese topping it was just tasteless mush. My ‘Tudor tower burger’ (£11.99, excited when ordering as it was the ‘premium’ option of the burgers) was very overcooked and dry with a soggy base bun and curly fries which I had paid extra for but no salad garnish or peas, it just looked so basic like something you’d expect at Wetherspoons for very cheap! (In fact Wetherspoons would have been better!) considering we had to wait a long time for our mains and the burger was overcooked when it finally came was totally unacceptable. Generally I hate being the guy to complain or bad mouth places but I won’t be going here again. I gave feedback via the website on all the issues above and received a response the next day just saying it would be investigated but no apology, no offer of vouchers or discount... Such a shame given the location and potential of this place that this is my last experience :(

The service at this pub was fantastic the amount of respect and attention to COVID 19 was brilliant the application to order food was beyond efficient and the staff were warm welcoming and despite the current circumstances they gave their full respect throughout my visits we will be returning thank you to the ragley for a very warm welcome for my return back to the pubs many thanks to all the team.

Not sure what to say about our visit. We had vouchers for 2 bottles of wine and when we ordered were told we can do it together and both codes where written down. We ordered amongst other things 2 mixed grills and where asked how both should be cooked. We paid and it seemed about right. When the food arrived one of the mixed grills was missing so I went to the bar and asked them to check the ticket there was only one mixed grill and we had been charged for one of the bottles of wine. We then had to wait 10 mins while the other mixed grill was cooked. I had a word with the assistant manager who offered 2 bottles of wine, one was owed anyway and one on the house as an apology. Overall the food was good and value for money but I felt like I was being ripped off. We like this pub and visit it fairly regularly but I am not sure I will again and couldn't really recommend it after this.

Had to wait too long for food. Staff kept bringing food out and asking if it was ours, then trying other tables. The tables are numbered so don’t understand why this kept happening. When our food eventually came out, not all at the same time, we had to ask more than once for onion rings. Gave up waiting and went to ask for them in the end.Food wasn’t hot, steak was chewy, lasagne looked like it had been heated up in a microwave (burnt around the edges).Staff didn’t have a clue what they were supposed to be doing. We weren’t the only table that kept having the wrong food brought out.Definitely wouldn’t recommend.

Thank you for such a great dining experience. Myself and 3 sisters visited yesterday to celebrate two of my sisters birthdays. We had exceptional service from every member of staff from Charley who took our order, Jayne who explained the special deal, which we took advantage of, Chloe who served our meals and Nick and Mike who cooked us the most delicious meal. We wouldn’t hesitate to highly recommend the Ragley Boat Stop and we’ll certainly be back. Thank you all for a great experience.

Great food and great service today! Ashleigh begins the bar was welcoming and friendly. Plenty of choice of food- even for someone fussy like me! Jane and Amy brought us our food and checked on us at the table, nothing was too much trouble even though the place was full they still looked after us. Our desserts were then served by Harry who again was lovely. This was my first visit in a few years but will definitely be back soon now!

Sad to say, really disappointed in the quality of food. Last visited in May 2019, where I wasn’t overly impressed them, and said to myself I won’t be going back, but was asked to meet there for lunch with family. So I gave benefit of the doubt, wish I hadn’t bothered. Beer was ok, nothing special to shout about, food was terrible, opted for mighty man mixed grill, steak ordered as medium rare, was read back from the server and acknowledged that was correct. When it arrived steak was cremated, over well done, the liver was dry and chewy and the chips were cold and withered. Another member of the party had the salmon and that was also dry.Complained to staff, food was taken away and replenished, was asked if we wanted the salmon poaching which came out better, the mixed grill was mediocre, yes the steak was cooked better but the gammon was 50% fat and the lamb chop was tiny. Chips were warmer but were still dry. Ate the steak as that was an improvement on what it was but left most of the meat, which is unlike me, would I recommend. No, will I revisit. No. Sorry very unimpressed and disappointed. Real shame as used to frequent often and had some lovely meals there. But in last year 2 bed visits and that’s the final nail in the coffin for me.....

Where do I even start. Me and my partner had visited this place a couple of times in the past and never had any issues, we visited 4 days ago and my god, what an absolute state. We arrived and was greeted by a rude bar lady who just stuck her hand out for our money while she shouted down the bar to her other colleague about Love Island, wasn’t even told how much our drinks were and then huffed when we asked how much the total was. We then ordered our starters and mains, after paying we had waited 10 minutes then was told there would be an additional half an hour wait for our starters, we said this was fine and proceeded to wait, 3 other tables in this time had gone to the bar to complain about the wait on their food. No apology was given to them just an excuse of having a table of 50 people upstairs. After 40 minutes of waiting, we was given our starters, a minute had passed and was then asked if we were ready for our mains, surely he could see we had just started eating our starters? But considering the wait, we said yes and quickly rushed our starters, in this time a number of waitresses were swearing, specifically “this is f*****g me off” and “f**k this” while walking past us which is not exactly what you want to hear when you are eating haha. Feeling uncomfortable, we then waited an extra 35 minutes for our mains which was awfully presented and the steaks we both had was damn right disgusting. The chips were cold and tasted like hazelnuts!! Our onion rings came out with 4 missing, we was given 2 in a bowl and the peppercorn sauce had obviously just been sitting on the side in the back, was too cold with a thick skin on top which poured out like goo. After we had told a waiter we wasn’t very happy, he smirked at us and looked up at the girl behind the bar and laughed. We got up and headed towards the exit, we was now standing for this, then a waitress stormed past both of us barging into my partner while going out of the door swearing and rushing around the side of the building. Before either of us could say anything to the waitress, the lady who served us for our drinks came up to my partner threw her arms up in the air and shouted “well, where has she gone!” As if it was our problem! Sort your staff out and sort the food out. The place is an absolute joke. I am not the only person to be complaining about last Friday, absolutely shocking behaviour and embarrassing.

Hi all, we've been coming to the Ragley for over 20 years & sometimes things do go wrong, we put that down to experience because normally with this place it comes good if you leave it a few weeks till your next visit. All I can say is that since October we've been 3 times including yesterday and things are dire. The steaks appear to be half cooked & left to stand then cooked again to order, my T bone was dry underneath & tough. My last visit I had the mixed grill & the meats were nearly black with dirty oil or something, we don't complain because this happens with this place now & again. After yesterday's meal I'm afraid as a family we are done & won't ever be returning. I'm sure if your a regular you will know what I mean about it sometimes being hit & miss. Can't fault the staff they all seem nice but when you spend £100 a time then you deserve a bit of quality. It's a shame but that's it now I'm afraid.

A 'spit and sawdust' pub which calls itself a pub rather than restuarant. However, they provide a menu which is dirt cheap and bursting with good steak deals. Everything is freshly cooked and you don,t have to wait long for your meal. They also do a Tapas menu and other meal deals. We first went as we could take our spaniel. The staff are friendly and in the Summer they have a huge garden that overlooks the Trent and Mersey canal.If you dress up to go out to dinner, maybe not the pub for you.

Fish and chips twice with 2 lemonades £19.10. Arrived after a very long wait, like a children’s portion on a massive plate. Fish overcooked. Chips reheated about 90 times. Was meant to come with tartar sauce and tomato but both were missing from our plates. Asked for vinegar. Waitress came back and reported she couldn’t find any, and was this ok?! Add to this that the place needs a good clean and a general feeling of being unloved and uncared for. We definitely won’t be returning!

Me and my family came here for Christmas Day dinner. For the 3 adults, 1 child aged 10 and 1 child aged 2 it cost nearly £200! The service was terrible, my husband was served his soup which had been spilt all over the plate so his napkin and bread roll were swimming in it. The soups were not hot, the mains just as disappointing. It wasn’t hot and looked like it had been stood a while. Deserts were nothing much more than either a defrosted cheese cake or microwaved Christmas pudding. We had to wait a long time for each course and we were crammed in like sardines. It was very Christmassy and the tables weren’t very decorated. We left early and asked if we could take our mince pies to go to just be given 2 for us all wrapped in tin foil. We were all really looking forward to this but it disappointed hugely! We’ve definitely been put off going out for Christmas Day again.

Had a soggy burger. The bun was dripping in fat from the unrested burger, I had to eat it with a knife and fork because everything had turned to mush. The chips tasted re heated and horrible tasting and the coleslaw was browny coloured. Then had a chewy chicken curry with a pool of grease on top and couldn’t be bothered asking again so we just left super disappointed. Took my 4 year old son here for dinner last week, we come here fairly regularly and never have an issue with the food or the service. Kids for a quid meals are big portions and my lad ate all of it(and some of mine!), young lady who had just finished her shift in the pub gave my son some some crayons and paper to keep him occupied while we waited for our food. Boy had chicken pops, well cooked and hot, I had the gammon steak, cooked perfectly and chips cooked properly and piping hot, although the fresh tomato was on the burnt side(was still delicious though!).

The bass fillets were good, unusual to have a sweet chilli sauce on top but it worked. Unfortunately it then goes downhill. The veggie burger was nice but the accompanying chips were dry and reheated. The fresh tomato was burnt black. The Tagliatelle was just a lump, no attempt had been made to separate the ribbons. The pork chops were dry, again served with burnt tomato. Worst of all was the steak and ale pie which was completely dry inside, the puff pastry topping was like a piece of shoe leather. How can a chef have so little pride in his/her work?

Came here for our annual Christmas lunch today, Christmas party dinners were delicious, they were really filling and the plate was packed full of meat, veggies and potatoes. The free kids meals were also decent sized plate fulls. The red velvet cake was also a really good slice and tasted delicious. King Henry steak came swimming in juice, side order of sauce had a thick skin on top, garlic bread had a huge hole in the middle and was burnt, cutlery had previous food on no apology from bar staff and was waiting to mention it to any staff but no one came to check back on our table. We were regulars here but after today's poor experience that will now change. The lad that served us in a xmas jumper spilt chips on the floor as he put them on the table and we just got told they are slippy. Team work at this pub needs seriously upgrading and so does customer relations. It wasn't even very busy to have that to fall back on as an excuse.

We visited one lunch time been many times before and the food and service has gone horrifically downhill! My good was dry and there was barely any of it, there were not staff to talk to until one came to take my still full plate away at the end.when I emailed a complaint it took them ages to reply and blamed us for not complaining at the time, it's a bit hard when theres only kids serving! This isnt helped by the story I was told about the place the food and the staff . We wont go again which is sad as we used to go a lot!

Have eaten here many times over the last 20 years, and have NEVER had a bad meal. Yes, the rump steaks can be on the tough side, but thats just how rump steak is, due to where on the cow it comes from, and because it’s the cheapest cut, if you’re expecting fillet or sirloin steak with every steak meal then you’re at the wrong place, it’s a pub, not a restaurant!

We will not be coming here again, having used this place on the odd occasion over the years it’s always been acceptable. What was suppose to be a nice family reunion was ruined by the rudeness and total apathy by the so called manager, clearly put out by the fact we were not happy with our grossly over cooked food. Having checked out the reviews after clearly there are many disgruntled customers of late. Who ever owns this place take heed, read your reviews and listen to your customers. The manager here is ruining your business and the chef is clueless. People talk with there feet and hopefully they will starting using the bubble or other better establishments near by. Peas came out on two meals raw and severely undercooked... virtually to the end of Cajun chicken realised as i had worked my way from Thinest end to thickest that as I reached the thickest point the chicken was still pink... this was also clearly identified to the first port of call which was a member of staff she was extremely apologetic... expressed deep regret that having worked my meal from thinest to thickest I had only just realised chicken was pink... requested a manger having been offered a free Desert sure to pea situation ... the designated “owner” the. Suggested that I contact head office but upon inspection of the “undercooked chicken” he attempted to take hostage of several parts of said “raw chicken” insinuating it was due to manufacturers Pre-slaughtering chicken and it was veins.... and only upon insistence relinquished all said chucked as providable evidence to head office claim... Diminished responsibility and walked off during altercation and failed to provide either refund for one meal or any other alternative... I had attended for a birthday meal due to previous high quality of service and so partner selected for “engagement meal”... disgusted in the services and complaint management and will most certainly be following through as so called “owner” by staff members had been situated at the downstairs bar prior to our arrival so despite staff members agreement denies undercooked products due to severe “beer goggles” absolutely disgusted... steak provided was at best “gristly” completely unsatisfied

I ordered salmon and when it came it looked dry. It had been overcooked (salmon should not be crisp on the outside!). I said it was too tough to enjoy and the waiter explained that they now pan-fry, not poach. However she agreed that it had been overcooked and offered to do me another one with no quibble and that was absolutely fine. I feel that they have been very fair and my new meal was really good. No problem and we will visit again.

Been here many times before, decided to come for a birthday meal for my fiancee and my mums boyfriend. Severely disappointed. Waited ages for food, which is understandable as the weather is nice so they are very busy. Camembert starter came out uncooked and had to be sent back. Then had to remind them to being it back out as it seemed to have dropped off the face of the earth. My 20 month old daughters food came out boiling hot and placed straight in-front of her with no regard for safety. Then, after ages, the mains came out. Fillet steak overcooked and tough as anything. Two king henrys came out cooked wrong; and rump steak was pure grizzle. Made a complaint (very unlike us) and hardly any effort was made to rectify the situation. Left feeling very disgruntled and shan’t be returning.

Arrived here on a beautiful day for a date! Sat outside for some drinks, All was well & went in to order food. I had salmon fillet which was massively over cooked & soggy & my boyfriend ordered steak, medium. Mmmmm it was very overcooked & not medium anywhere. Very disappointing. This restaurant used to be very good judging by previous reviews but looking at the most recent reviews, has seriously gone downhill!

Decide to try this pub/restaurant as it is close to where we live, upon arrival we noticed that a lot of tables hadn’t been cleared from previous diners, but just assumed that they had just been busy and not had time to clean them, after ordering our food at the bar we waited over 25 minutes for the food to arrive, when it did it was cold and over cooked. My glass still had a lipstick mark around the rim and when asked for a new drink the staff member just tutted!

I am not one to review restaurants generally, as a hospitality manager I understand how bad reviews can damage an establishments reputation. However, my experience today was totally awful and I feel like it must be shared to hopefully lead to improvements.

Food disgusting for the price, had the one of the specialities, chilli burger, the chilli con carne was like a dollop of congealed dog food. Bar staff abrupt and rude. Tables and menus not clean and sticky. One of the worst meals we have had. Avoid, unless you want an upset stomach
