A birthday treat from my neighbour who had experienced the work of the new chef and other staff. The choice was good, with no endless pub menu. The food was great restaurant quality with classy presentation. Look forward to going again If you want ‘same old’ pub food it’s not for you.

We received a warm welcome on arrival, and service was excellent throughout. It was busy for a weeknight, so is clearly a popular option. Booking advised. I always feel that country pubs are better for meat eaters, and the restaurant here didn't change my opinion. We shared some starters, where there were good vegetarian options. The dishes were creative, although the batter on the halloumi was a little on the heavy side and swamped the flavour somewhat. The bang bang cauliflower, and in particular its seaweed accompaniment, was very good. My friend's cod, although a little small for the price in our opinion, was cooked to perfection. My gnocchi (the only vegetarian min) was nice, but no knock out flavours that made me want to write home. Desserts were good, although I'm always disappointed when custard isn't an option. It was a shame we couldn't tip when paying by card, as this led to a scrabble for any appropriate change to tip the staff, who really deserved more than what we could leave. To summarise, a recommendation for meat eaters, but vegetarians might be disappointed. I suspect vegans would just be hungry.

Popped in for some food for the first time. Customer service was absolutely spot on and how it should be. Food was amazing definitely pop by for food again. Also the pudding was a right treat. Atmosphere was how a rub/restaurant should be, music was calm and not to loud and a play list that suited the season. Thank you for a great visit and we shall be back again.

The friendliest pub with the most amazing food. This was an impromptu lunch with friends and I’m so glad we visited the Harrington Arms. We all had a sandwich with salad and fries. The salad was just the right amount - fresh and a variety of leaves, onion and perfectly dressed. Fries were stunning - skin on and crispy. Mayo was generously portioned and high quality. Our sandwiches were fresh and very generously filled. I had the fish finger sandwich and had expected the bog standard Bird’s Eye fried fingers. But no! These were freshly deep fried crispy battered fresh fish goujons. So tasty and fresh. Most unexpected. My friends had chicken club - overstuffed and tender - beautifully presented - amazing portions and wonderful food. Desserts: sherry trifle and chocolate delice. I didn’t have any room for pudding but my friends reliably informed me the desserts were heavenly. Although this pub is a distance from home, I don’t mind driving when the food is as good as this. The service was impeccable too - genuine, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I’m really looking forward to my next visit and I’m just looking for an excuse to come again!

While visiting family from New Zealand I chose to have lunch here. It is the best meal I've had in the 4 weeks I have been in Derbyshire. We all had 3 courses, the Derbyshire Lamb was amazing as was all our food. It was all restaurant quality, presentation was 10/10. The staff were very attentive. My parents live local and said they will definitely be returning again.

Sunday lunch for three today was excellent. Fresh home cooked food. We all had roasts- I had pork, husband the three meats and his step-mum the Derbyshire beef (but a smaller portion please- “no problem “). For desert I had the Earl Grey Pannacotta with poached pear and sprinkled with meringue- it was excellent! Light and fresh and different. Strawberry ice cream and sticky toffee pudding went down very well with the others. Service was just right and neither too quick nor too slow. We were in the room at the back which had a nice atmosphere. The place was busy but well managed.

I have been here a number of times in the past and enjoyed a varietyy of food from risotto to pies to salmon dishes. However for some bizarre reason the previous lovely menu has now changed to a 'Street Food' menu (not really appropriate at a village pub!) I thought that a safe bet would be the halloumi dish, however they didn't have this so my friend and I chose the chicken - the portion was huge but it was awful! The chicken was literally lumps of gristly fat - I have never seen chicken look like that before, particularly not served in a meal. I picked at a few pieces and had to leave it. We also had chunky chips - there were literally 6 of these in a tiny pot. Very, very disappointing particularly when it has been so good in the past.

We called in here as we needed somewhere for dinner close to the A50 on our journey. It was a sunny evening and the garden was packed with a great live singer. Despite the pub being busy we were served quickly at the bar and then taken through to the restaurant area. There was a wine list on the table, a standard size menu and a street food menu, so I’m surprised by the last two comments. I had the fried chicken burger, and it was amazing. Really tender and juicy. My husband said the beef burger was excellent and my son wolfed down his beef & mushroom pie (one of a choice of two pie of the days). The bill for 3 of us, plus a starter and drinks for a 4th person came to under £100 which I think these days is pretty reasonable (that included 6 pints). All staff were very friendly and efficient, especially our waitress! If we need to stop again in that area I wouldn’t hesitate as it’s less than 5 mins from the A50 and a much better option than the local services!

Have been a few times and it was always good. Went for a family birthday meal and it was very disappointing. The table was in the bar near a door to outside that was constantly opened by staff making us cold. Service was terrible, one starter didn’t arrive and when it eventually came everyone had finished theirs. The main course arrived immediately after the missing starter was finished. Roast potatoes were not good at all, tasted as if they had been cooked a long time before we ate. Cauliflower cheese was very over cooked and our request for extra veg and gravy took until we had nearly finished the mains. Dessert arrived and all of the sticky toffee puddings were barely warm. 3 of us sent them back as the other 2 held out no hope of them coming back in a timely manner. When they returned, part of the dessert was missing and the sauce tasted burnt. Overall it was a really disappointing meal with very disinterested staff.

Most pubs have no idea about standards of service. This pub however does and others could learn from them. From the time we entered and the barman greeted us and took our drink order the service was first class. Shown immediately to our table and the drinks arrived a minute later. The food order was taken and all the staff were extremely friendly including the owner. Food arrived within 10 minutes hot and nicely presented. All in all a great experience. Only comments were that wine list is small and roast potatoes were semi crisp on the outside but not cooked on inside. Would definitely recommend and will visit again. I last visited this pub over 10 years ago and the service was so poor under the previous landlord who was under the impression he was operating a 5 star Michelin pub!!

I'm not berating Sunday lunch buffets but there is a noticeable difference when it is prepared to order. Yorkie puds in particular. Happy to report that this busy kitchen at The Harrington that I sat right in front of had a military regime of fresh meal prep going on and we appreciated it. Lamb shanks, yorkies, fresh veg, al dente carrots, home made gravy. Really tasty and we left clean plates all round for both mains and deserts, 👏 bravo. J+S+W

Its quite tight in some places though so one of the staff accidentally bumped the pram with a sleeping baby in it with a door. (He didn't wake up - phew!) Parking was fantastic with a really large car park - plenty of space for lots of guests. Wheelchair accessibility is not so great - there is sloped areas for accessing the pub but the walkways are pretty tight. I suppose if you were determined you could make it happen.

We went without booking after a day trip out. We were originally told that there was no room for us two and our woofit, however as we made our way back to the car we were shouted back. A group were leaving giving us space to eat, and we were glad they left. The Sunday lunch was nothing but amazing! Perfect Beef, perfect cauliflower cheese, it was the best Sunday lunch I have ever had in a pub! I am from Yorkshire and the YP's tasted like they should, and were just the right consistency. My only criticism was that they had run out of panacotta and I had to have sherry trifle for pud, but we shall definately be back but will book to avoid disappointment! The staff were lovely and friendly just how they should be and it's nice to see a family run working pub than yet another franchise, it's just a job we don't care attitude. 10 out of 10....a must go if passing!!!
