One of the best pubs in the area Friendly landlord, staff and punters. Beer top quality I believe filled cobs can be ordered but it’s mainly a social , drinking establishment.

I am not sure I can be objective in this case. I have a long and Chequers history starting from 1999 when I moved to Ticknall and Philip Heath, his piano, and the old crooners gathered on Saturdays to sing. It was magic. It's all a part of the history of the Chequers, and it's still a great pub. Walked there from Melbourne as part of a circle through Staunton Harold Reservoir and Calke Abbey. Now that's a good way to experience the Chequers.

What a wonderful place for me to enjoy my very 1st pint during my very 1st visit to England!! If you're looking for an AUTHENTIC pub in the UK with all the trimmings (good beer, spirits, atmosphere, and most importantly good people!) then this is the place you must see. I was sad to leave to come back to the states because I loved this place so much

Chequers is the real deal -- a very old (17th or 18th century), authentic, friendly pub in a tiny village in Derbyshire where the locals all know each other and notice when strangers (like us Americans) show up. But we were here with a large group for a milestone birthday and the organizer grew up drinking here. The proprietor, Tony, is very friendly and generous. The pub offers Bass Ale from cask (the bottled version we get over here is not even close) plus a changing local craft option, plus a full bar with a decent wine selection (for anyone inexplicably going to a pub to drink wine). There is no kitchen -- this is a drinking establishment. But there was a fish and chips truck that showed up and offered a quality version, complete with mushy peas. A perfect accompaniment to cask ale.

We called in here on our way back from nearby Calke Abbey in search of food and drink. Although they didn't serve hot food the owner 'Tony' engaged with us in the yard and was very friendly ensuring us that they could serve us up a nice Ploughmans and a chicken salad or a sandwich etc. We had a couple of drinks and very much enjoyed our food. Its a friendly little pub, they do allow dogs. Can't fault other than it not doing hot food.

Fantastic country pub, decided to try it on way home as initial plan had changed. I’m glad I did, choice of 2 hand pulls, opted for the Bass and it was really good, well kept and clear. Had been told that their cold filled cobs were great, went for cheese and ham. These are really made to order and come with crisps. Other members of the party had beef salad, cheese and onion and chicken salad. All commented on how nice they were. Generous and Plentiful filing in the cob served on soft brown cob. Well recommended.

On the day I went in with my girlfriend some locals were sitting to one side of the pub with the member of bar staff, the pub was otherwise empty. They sighed when we went to the bar to order a drink and the locals were muttering and sneering while we waited, clearly offended that we'd have the audacity to order a drink in pub. There was loud pop music blasting so you could barely hear eachother speak (it was midday on a Thursday). The tables were small and sticky, and although the outside of the pub and the pub's sign were modern, the inside decor was tired.

We were looking for food which is not easy on a Sunday evening. We can across this very quirky traditional public house hoping we could get a light evening meal. The chequers Inn do not do meals however, do sandwiches on order and on a Sunday evening do a fabulous cheese board including healthy dips and an array of other delightful nibbles. The landlord made me the most delicious tuna sandwich even though he was busy. The Inn was full of lovely local people who made us feel so welcome. This is a little hidden gem and we had a great evening!! Oh and yes the toilets are outside!
