I would so like to give a great review as the owner was lovely but it’s just not quite there. I’m sure they will get this right in the future. We weren’t offered a starter. We had tasty steaks on the rock but they had to be cut and shared between two. We were given a couple of small sides (6 or so chips and a few Mediterranean veg and coleslaw). The portions all round were small. There was no choice of dessert, just one thing on offer. We had to sit around a long time between courses and weren’t offered drink top ups (2.5 hours for 2 courses). The bill was not broken down and we were just given a total amount. We then had to ask for the deposits to be removed. Overpriced unfortunately.

Visited with my family, plenty of space and friendly atmos. Coffee was great and the kids had babychinos. All good. Huge let down was the pastries. Had croissant and chocolate croissant. Both incredibly dry and unappetising. Toilet in the cellar so no disabled access in case you need it.

Walking in, the place gave off quite a rustic maritime feel. We were greeted by a Real Ideas Organisation employee called Tanneka, and she guided us through the studios. The studios were on display for everyone who walked past, and Tanneka explained that (for a fee) we could join their Arts Guild which would grant access to the studios. Since my forte is in 2D arts, I thought the rental studios were very quaint and I wanted to be in those rooms. As it turned out the Ocean Studios premises had more to offer: their print-making room was surprisingly ornate and low-tech. All the machines had to be operated manually, spare perhaps one rubber-topped exposure machine for silk screens. Another facility had a ginormous, impressive mural on the side of a warehouse. I certainly got the impression that the place knew how to foster creativity and this was further expanded when we were shown the kitchen station right on the end of a long hallway of studios. There There was also a jewelry station we got to visit that had a huge fume extractor in the centre, and a lot of benches around it for shaping and forming the jewels. I couldn't tell if they were rhinestones or not, but I shouldn't speculate like that. We also chanced upon a ceramic-work studio that was being rented, so nobody could enter. Zoe Clarke (my art teacher) and I had to peek through the glass slit in the door and what we could see must have been an ongoing project because it looked like they were coming back in a short while. The ceramics studio was being rented by someone who goes by 'Tweenie' - Zoe apparently has worked with them in the past. The tour ended where it began: the Collective Space Café. Along one wall were paintings that belonged to a collection aptly called 'Composed'! The colours used were all mute, but used well to draw my attention. On the whole I admired how they didn't take art so seriously like typical galleries - Tanneka was laid back and transparent; most of the rooms smelt of raw paint or canvas or flax (and not of artificial chemicals), and not to mention the allowed the guild's members to decorate their environment really goes to show that the place prioritises artistic values above all else. If given the chance to go again, I would. It would be worth keeping abreast with their website as it updates. CB

Having walked from the pier to the far end of the sea walk we were coming back around lunch time and this seemed a good place to stop. They were doing all sorts of hot snacks which sited well. We were able to sit inside out of the cold too.

Great location coffee shop with loads of inside and outside space Varied snack menu with some great looking cakes Slightly let down by the sourdough which seemed to be normal white bread and food just not-quite-there Needs a little more attention to detail and could be a legendary stop!

Delightful restaurant / cafe with an excellent vibe and freshly prepared drinks and food selections. A clever concept for rotating Sunday roasts and the breakfast is excellent. Vegan and vegetarians can get an excellent meal. Ryan and his wife are a super team and their passion for service clearly shows as when I visited today the place was packed! Definitely a place to check out when in Southsea / Portsmouth Highly recommended.

Excellent coffee and nice barista. BUT the place us so grubby and gloomy and key items were out of stock - cheddar cheese for toasties and skinny milk.

The only draft lagers were fosters or Carling. Yeuk seriously who drinks that. They had John smith and strongbow that’s it. Could you not get any cheaper draft beers than that. Not great

This is a smart pub in a superb location. The beer garden, free range chickens and riverside setting make it a perfect stopping place on the many walks in the area. However, we felt the owners could capitalise on this so much more with a better food service. There were only toasties or sandwiches available (on a sunny August Saturday lunchtime) and the cask ales were not available. A pub that "welcomes walkers, cyclists and dogs" really needs to offer more. I'm not talking about gourmet food; merely a few hot food choices from a pub grub range. The toasties were good and accompanied by quality crisps and coleslaw. I'd really love to see this pub thriving like some of its nearby competitors but it was pretty deserted. I hope this feedback will be construed as constructive.

This coffee shop is an absolute gem! The perfect spot after a refreshing walk in the forest. The coffee was incredible—I’m still thinking about how good it was! And the bakes were absolutely delicious, especially the cookie pie. I’ll definitely be back—couldn’t recommend it enough!

I recently visited the Cherry Tree and had an amazing experience! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a great mix of lively energy and cozy charm. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. The service was top-notch—drinks arrived quickly, and the team was always happy to offer recommendations. You can tell they genuinely care about their customers. Whether you're stopping by for a casual drink or a fun night out, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommend!
