This is a smart pub in a superb location. The beer garden, free range chickens and riverside setting make it a perfect stopping place on the many walks in the area. However, we felt the owners could capitalise on this so much more with a better food service. There were only toasties or sandwiches available (on a sunny August Saturday lunchtime) and the cask ales were not available. A pub that "welcomes walkers, cyclists and dogs" really needs to offer more. I'm not talking about gourmet food; merely a few hot food choices from a pub grub range. The toasties were good and accompanied by quality crisps and coleslaw. I'd really love to see this pub thriving like some of its nearby competitors but it was pretty deserted. I hope this feedback will be construed as constructive.

A great place for a few drinks whether you are a local, on holiday or just passing. Beautiful peaceful beer garden in the summer and a couple of toasty log fires in the winter. The greeting is warm and sincere and the local,people friendly to all.

Whatever you do in this pub do not eat the food especially the chicken burger and chips, absolute rubbish. Certainly not edible. Reheated food for sure.

Scarborough Spa, Scarborough YO11 2HD EnglandWas here during fortress festival and they had a take away menu with a decent selection. Quality was poor though. The burger patty was a dry, slightly burned lump of meet and the fries were the worst I ever had. As if somebody just let Frozen fries thaw at room temperature. I did not even dare to try the substance that identified as cole slaw.

Burniston RoadI came here during each visit from Canada and we were just getting ready to return again. I am just shocked to find out that they have closed permanently and I can only live with my memories. I wanted to bring my wife there for what I hoped would be another incredible weekend. I can only hope the very best for the family and say thanks for all of the memories and the fantastic bar towels that I still have after 20 years Thank you. Muchas gracias. Hvala, arrigoto, Merci,

25 North Marine RoadWe had a nice English breakfast for the start of our walk. Not the best ever perhaps, but enjoyable and open at 7:30. Prices are reasonable, but cash only
