The young staff outside smoking and swearing was disappointing and complaining about how the kitchen is ran. The young lad cleaning the tables was so lazy and might not have even bothered! Thus pub was really busy whixh nay have been why the food was disappointing. We had prawb sandwiches, if said granary bread but it was sliced brown, the side salad had no dressing and had almost a whole sliced red onion thrown on, the prawns were tasteless. Trying to find somewhere to eat after 7 o'clock at night in Whitby is not easy unless you pre-book somewhere however we arrived at the Pier Inn just on 7.30 as the kitchen was closing and the chef about to go home for the night. The barman kindly asked the chef if he could cater for just another 3 customers (us) and he wilfully complied - Excellent service beyond expectations from both barman and chef. Our meals quickly served (2 x beef lasagna's & 1 x steak pie & chips) all of us agreed the food was lovely and at good value for money price. would definitely eat here again and would recommend the Pier Inn for decent meals at a decent price. 10/10.

Attended at the Pier Saturday 29th May 2021 at lunch time. Sat down with friends and after approx 30 minutes a young man came and took our order. We decided to order food at the same time as drinks due to the length of time it had already taken..Another half an hour later our drinks arrived. Another 25 mins or so our food started to come our.. Well some of it. Out of 7 meals ordered 4 came. When we questioned where the other 3 meals were ( all fish finger sandwiches) we were told they hadn't been ordered..? The food we did get was average to say the least..the staff were disinterested, had a complete lack of interest and clearly unable to process an order for seven people. During our time at the Pier we witnessed at least 2 other tables walk out due to lack of attention. Really poor and very disappointed.

But due to the pandemic you would think tables and chairs would be disinfected at all times. Also we had to get staffs attention to order a drink obviously because they kept forgetting about custom outside. Please clean the tables regular I'm not even being fussy but their were filthy.

Visited a couple of times during our stay in Whitby. Location is really good, a nice place to sit a watch the world go by for a couple of hours. Was it the best pub we visited in Whitby, no. Was it the worst, no. It was just OK! Service was pretty slow, locals were always served first. In a way, I do understand this as they are your bread and butter, but it was slightly annoying when you were waiting a while to get served. Especially with the new covid regulations, meaning we couldn’t go to the bar ourselves. That said, I do feel the staff were doing the best they could, in a very tough time.

Let me begin by saying that this hotel is a budget hotel but is good value and worth the £90 per night that we paid for a double sea facing room.We stayed for two nights and the room was very clean with lovely views towards the sea and Whitby abbey. The bedroom we had (4) was quite small but the linen was very clean with a very good shower and the courtesy tray was replenished daily with biscuits and bottled water and tea and coffee. Our waitress ELAINE was very pleasant and helpful when we required a hairdryer, and very hard working at breakfast. The hotel itself is quite tired and access to the bedrooms can be difficult for people with mobility issues, which my wife is unfortunate to suffer from. Breakfast was adequate but no cereal or fruit on offer, but as said before still value for money. Car parking was not an issue as the hotel gives a permit to cover the length of your stay and the car is parked in a very quiet area about 5/10 mins. walk away. You can of course unload before parking. We very much enjoyed our stay in Whitby and hope to visit again in future but would probably chose another hotel due to the issue for us of gaining access to the bedrooms.

Stopped at lunchtime to get a bite to eat. I ordered a burger and my wife a pizza. After waiting quite a while, the food was delivered to our table by an unsociable waitress. My wife's pizza was ok, if a bit doughy. My burger and chips, however, were cold; the plate had obviously been lying for some time before being despatched from the kitchen. I managed to disturb a member of staff on her phone and reported that my food was cold. She grunted something and walked off with it. After a few minutes another member of staff appeared by my side and asked me what I wanted her to do with it. Being too polite to say what I was thinking, I said that I'd like a hot replacement, but before I could finish, she asked if I wanted my money back. Fearing what 'extras' might be in the replacement, I opted for a refund. She stomped off and shouted to bar staff that I wanted my money back. This alerted four people waiting to be served at the bar to look across at us then turn around and walk out: more custom lost!! There was no apology forthcoming from this ignorant woman. If you're looking for efficient, friendly service and good quality food, I'd recommend that you give this place a miss and keep on looking!!

Just spent 3 days , had a great time. The room was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was one of the best we have this year in a hotel. Lovely staff and friendly . Thank you for a great time . We will be back next year.

We recently stayed in whitby with some friends as a surprise birthday trip for my wife. We came across The Pier Inn while exploring the harbour area..We felt peckish so decided to stay and eat.

Called in for a dry off on a wet cold Sunday. Very welcoming and warm. Hubby had a pint of stout, which tasted lovely and had obviously been well kept. Would call back in if in Whitby again

After a lovely a circular walk from Whitby to Sandsend and back we stopped here for a drink as part of a pub crawl in late afternoon/early evening. What a disappointment.

Why do you advertise barista coffee then serve it out of a pushbutton machine?? A waterery warm apology for a cappuccino! Disappointing to say the least
