I came here during each visit from Canada and we were just getting ready to return again. I am just shocked to find out that they have closed permanently and I can only live with my memories. I wanted to bring my wife there for what I hoped would be another incredible weekend. I can only hope the very best for the family and say thanks for all of the memories and the fantastic bar towels that I still have after 20 years Thank you. Muchas gracias. Hvala, arrigoto, Merci,

We went to see what it would be like to park our motorhomes for a weekend. The place was filthy. The tables hadn't been wiped ,the carpet was filthy. And the bar area looked like it hadn't been mopped for weeks. The one person we seen with his child on his hip, stunk of weed. Not a pleasant experience.

Being under new management, the rumour of a highly trained Chef & the most expensive Christmas dinner around I expected something special. I could not have been more wrong! Service started quite late & when the ordered appetiser of 'prawn' cocktail & warm roll arrived it was 'tiny shrimp' cocktail with a stone cold inside & soggy outside roll. After a tiresome wait of 45 minutes the much anticipated main course arrived & "oh dear me"! The only thing hot was the gravy & the scorching plate, with no warning, which burnt my fingers. I really hope that none of the many children present tried to move their plate. Undercooked & overcooked veggies, undercooked Yorkshire pudding [burnt puddings had been observed on other tables], one slice of overcooked & tough roast beef [with gristle], one slice of compressed turkey joint [not even a fresh bird], no stuffing & no cranberry sauce. We decided to eat a little, as we were so hungry & would not consider waiting any longer for anything possibly better, but when I found one of Chef's beard hairs in my carrots "I was done!". I cannot comment on the desert as we left immediately. This was a completely disgusting experience, waste of food & could not have been more overpriced. On a side note, the perimeter of the hotel & car park was littered with empty cans, McDonald's cups, cigarette butts & broken glass. Standards are, unfortunately, dropping continuously & the bar is very low. However, the 'new management' at The Ivanhoe either haven't got a clue, bitten off more than they can chew or just don't care? Whichever it is, they will not get another penny of mine, which is a shame because they do seem like 'nice people'.

I live down the road from the Ivannhoe and when it reopened was really pleased because we used to eat there quite regularly however when we popped in they werent open and had a sign up saying the kitchen was closed, so I checked on the website and they were supposed to be open so I tried the phone number and it was disconnected the only other phone number I could find was engaged I have since visited 4 times and have not yet managed to find it open or been able to get in contact to book a meal or speak to anyone the website is obviously wrong and I wouldnt advise anyone to go there because the chances are they would be shut.

Home cooked really tasty pub food. You might be surprised they offer usually 3 vegan options which are all fantastic. Good value, friendly service, a real find just back from the north bay. Worth phoning ahead to book your vegan choice, and don’t expect to eat late.

Called into the Ivanhoe after visiting the Sealife centre. We had a very warm reception and staff couldn’t of been more helpful. Food was amazing highly recommend the Pie and Chips. Real homemade food. The burgers and Gammon were also popular among our party. Value for money. Would highly recommend to anyone passing.

This wasn’t the Sunday lunch experience we hoped for.We waited 50 minutes for two Sunday lunches and one of those orders was wrong! The young male waiter brought cutlery and condiments after 40 minutes then apologised for the wait because they were busy. The pub and restaurant was quiet so when the young female bar tender apologised for the wait we asked how much longer it would be.She said another 5-10 minutes. We then asked for some more drinks suggesting they should be complimentary but she wasn’t entertaining the idea.So when our Sunday lunches finally arrived we asked could we see the boss. The young male waiter said he’d go and speak to the boss. The boss clearly wasn’t there or didn’t want the confrontation. Surely a professional establishment should let their customers know that there is a longer wait for food and offer complimentary drinks after the 20 minutes waiting time.We won’t be visiting The Ivanhoe again or recommending this establishment to friends or family.

Have visited the Ivanhoe on several occasions in recent times with various members of my family. Everything about the place has been spot on for me. This is a family run pub / restaurant which offers a great service from a great team. Every meal I have had has turned up in a very timely fashion, perfectly cooked and with very generous portions. I’m now also a regular at the bar which offers a great selection of drinks at good prices. I’ll be going back regularly and highly recommend the place

Had a booking for 7pm, ordered a cheesy garlic bread as a sharing starter between the 3 of us, daughter ordered cheese and tomato pizza for main and my husband and I both ordered chicken tikka masala. Had to wait over an hour and quarter before we got the sharing starter, this was nice and tasty. We then had another half an hour wait for our main meals, daughters pizza was nice, our curry on the other hand was very bland/tasteless, after such a long wait expected the chicken to melt in my mouth but sadly this was not the case, it was quite tough and hardly any masala sauce with the meal, the rice was clumpy. Needless to say we did not order any desserts !! From what we could see there was only one girl serving behind the bar and she kept having to be brought back in to serve people on the two occasions we saw her trying to go for a break. She was very pleasant and hard working. The young chap bringing out the food was also pleasant but didn’t know what to say when he asked if everything was ok with the meals and got met with the response of no not really, wasn’t worth the long wait as he just walked off. There was an older gentleman walking around who we assumed was the manager but he never once interacted with any customers and just kept his very few staff on their toes. Will not be returning to this pub when we next return to Scarborough, it was the worst meal we have had in a long time.

Worst meal I’ve had out in a while. We had to be at our booked table by 7pm as apparently last orders for the kitchen is 7.30. Bit early, but we’ll go with that. Placed the order and then waited for an hour before the food arrived. Poor quality, highly processed food, which was tasteless and nasty. When has a halloumi burger ever consisted of 3 tiny halloumi fries hidden inside? No sweet potato fries, as per the menu, but what was very likely oven chips. Not nice. The others had similarly sad offerings: you wouldn’t have thought sausage and mash could go wrong. It did. No gravy with the steak and ale pie, or maybe the sausage and mash gravy was for sharing. Either way, there was plenty not eaten. Maybe we should have sent it back to begin with, but it’s hard to see how it could have been made any better, with poor quality ingredients. We were told we couldn’t have a refund as we’d eaten some. Actually, the word “devoured” was used, which was definitely not what was happening, trust me! We didn’t push the point, as the staff became confrontational. Just enough to say we’ll not be back and would advise avoiding this place like the plague. If I could have given no stars, I would have.

On our last night of the holiday we tried the restaurant at the Ivanhoe. We were booked at 6.30 but it took until 8.30 until we had our starters and mains. The starters were inconsistent, two of us had prawn cocktail - one plate had large portions of cucumber, tomato wedges and lettuce, the other had no cucumber, very little lettuce and a couple of small slivers of tomato. The 1st plate also had a piece of plastic in the sauce! The spicy chicken strips were excellent but the soup which was broccoli and spinach, ( a rather odd combination) was a gloopy consistency and not very nice. All four of the main courses were a disaster- obviously whoever was cooking in the kitchen was having a very " off" day. The steak that was ordered as medium rare was very overdone, the chips were horrible and the onion rings not very nice either. The gammon was so overcooked it was like a piece of cardboard and it was served with the same awful chips. The chicken in the hunter's chicken was nice as was the bbq sauce but the cheese was a bit rubbery and nothing else on the plate was edible including the horrible chips. The 4th main was beef lasagne which was very chewy and of course was accompanied by the same horrible chips. The girls serving were very pleasant and tried their best, constantly asking if we wanted more drinks. 20% was knocked off the bill because the steak was overdone ,which was a nice touch but didn't really compensate for 4 awful meals. We didn't bother to have dessert in case that was awful too.

Stopped here for two nights. Check in was at 2pm. Was shown to our room which was clean but lacked the wow factor as I'd booked the four poster bed which looked like it had seen better days. The whole floor of the room creaked. Only 1 of the 2 large radiators worked even after asking if someone could turn up the thermostat. The bathroom is in need of a total overhaul as the shower cubicle is way too small. The tv in the room was smaller than my laptop screen. The only saving grace was the fantastic pub food which we had. Very tasty, freshly made. I cannot fault the food that was excellent. The pub however definitely needs a lick of paint. The walls were so thin we could hear other travellers creaking about in there rooms as well as the tv blaring and the snoring. Shame really. Id visit for food again but probably stay somewhere else. If your on a budget then do check it out as the place is a good location five mins for Scarborough centre.

The best thing about this pub is that it's dog friendly although you are banished into a small tap room for the privilege. This pub was advertised as dog friendly so we called in with our dog, there was a sign Sayin g dogs in the bar area only, which is fair enough until we entered, the carpets were sticky and grotty and the bar area turned out to be a tap room with a lot of loud men playing snooker etc. It was very unpleasant. We sat at a ta le for a few minutes to look at a very sticky dirty menu, and then got up and walked out of this place,

We ate in the restaurant both nights and all meals were really good and you won’t be hungry afterwards. On the second night the weekly pub quiz was on which was good fun for £1 with several other mini games. I'd seen this pub many times on visits to Scarborough but never called in. My wife had been for a long beach walk with the dog at Cayton Bay and decided to try it, hoping it was dog friendly. There is plenty of outside seating mainly on grass for good weather days and large car park. The male member of staff was friendly and attentive and when I asked about dogs he said no problem and pointed to a large slightly more dated area, but very clean and tables and chairs in good condition, dog owners are sometimes crowded into a small area with limited seating but not here. The rest of the pub had recently been refurbished with plenty of tables so if you have no dog this would also be a great area.Clean bowl and water provided for the dog. We sampled two pints of Cornish Pale Ale called Tribute, which I've had in Cornwall and it is a lovely pint. We had fish and chips and also Scampi and Chips for £20 and it was well presented, good portion size and very tasty. All in all good value for the money. It's not fine dining but great pub food. I decided to.come here with my wife and 3 year old son as it had good reviews. I arrived at around 1715hrs. I was hungry so ordered the giant cod and chips. The wife ordered a chicken burger and my son had fish fingers and chips. The order was placed at 1720hrs and I was not informed of any wait on food. After I had placed my order I heard others being told there was a 40 minute wait on food but as I had already waited 20 mins I thought wouldn't be much longer. Then others that arriaved after me started to recieve their food. Mine still didn't come at this point it was 1830hrs and my son was getting tired. So we enquired how much longer it would be. Then at around 1835hrs my food arrived. And all looked ok. The chips were a bit cold but I was hungrt so finished them off and my battered cod looked nice. Then I soon discovered that the fish was absolutly full of bones. So I informed the staff that I was not happy and I wanted a refund as I wasn't waiting for another one. I was then informed by staff that it was a fish so bones were to be expected. I informed him that I had never had a bone from the fish shop and asked it I was to peel back the better and inspect every bite. Anyway I got my money back but I was very disappointed as the fish looked very nice. My wife and sons food was fine apart from slightly cold chips. I was disappointed and I wont go back.

I've just literally left the pub I'm a regular visitor to the Ivanhoe for Sunday lunch but the standards have dropped so bad of late . Roast spuds swimming in fat mashed turnip is mush full of water no taste the gravy was cold and really runny if I'm honest there wasn't one thing I can say was satisfactory I will not be returning much better places and better prices £24 For a large and reg carvery and 2 drinks is a joke for the quality on offer . I don't know why the standards have slipped but lost me as a customer and I'll be telling family and friends to avoid

Arrived Sunday about 2pm after walking for 20 minutes in horrible drizzle. Just wanted a drink, nice sit down and warm place for half a hour with heavily pregnant daughter-in-law in tow. All tables were reserved for Sunday carvery, thus nowhere but outside to sit, in cold and rain. Disgusting bar prices and "don't give a toss" staff. Never again.

3 night stay at the Ivanhoe pub and guest house.Clean and tidy. Friendly staff and lovely food. The full English breakfast is to die for.Good selection on the menu and I recommend the curries. The room was minimal but fine for a couple. Had ensuite shower and toilet. Tea/coffee making facilities and freeview tv (needs a bigger tv). Will definitely be going back.

It's a bold claim, my review title, but I believe it to be true. The food was ordered and delvered within fifteen minutes and what was billed on the menu as 'giant cod and chips' really lived up to its name. The fish was easily a foot an a half in length. The batter was the best I'd ever tasted and the chips were perfect. Throw into the mix the homemade mushy peas and homemade tartare suce and you've got the best prepared pub meal I've ever eaten.Had two fantastic pints of Tribute as well. The landlord knows how to look after beer and the chef knows how to cook.If you're in or around Scarborough ever you'd be doing yourself a huge disservice if you didn't go here for lunch at least once.

A great family friendly pub, with plenty of entertainment nights from psychic evenings, live music and quizzes. Great selection of beers and very friendly, helpful staff. Very good value for money and a very good childrens menu. Good selection of food with something for every appetite. The food, which is plentiful, is very nicely presented too and is well above average pub grub. Plenty of car parking and disabled access. Ideal location if you are visiting the sea life centre or the new swimming baths.

After our original venue was cancelled for our twins and two others 18th party, The Ivanhoe very kindly let us hold it in their pub, they couldn't have been more accommodating, from providing the excellent buffet at a very good price to playing all the music young people like! All in all fantastic atmosphere and a great party, thanks again for everything.

Stopped of at this place for a quick bite to eat and we left quite disappointed. The chicken korma I ordered was far too hot so had to leave it and the other food we ordered wasn't amazing. The place lacked atmosphere with one, very loud song, on loop the whole time. Unfortunately we were to,d it couldn't be turned down. Won't be going back.

Checked in very easily, polite guy called Jack showed us to our room. Explained about breakfast etc. Clean(ish)..lots of cobwebs on the angled ceilings. Bedding clean and comfortable beds. Shower good but maintenance issues with bad seals etc. Skirting boards dusty and radiators dusty. Chipped paintwork on window ledges. Couldn't leave windows open due to being right over a flat roof and no security catches to prevent windows opening far. I work in housekeeping so look for cleanliness standards to be higher than here. But overall it was a comfortable stay.Breakfast was great and plentiful really tasty and well cooked.

we visited here a couple of times during a weeks visit to Scarborough. The portions are massive and the food is OK, not stunning but straightforward non chain pub food. It varies between the classics and interesting stuff, something for everybody! The second time we visited they were far too busy, totally underestimating how so due to a big concert at the open air theatre, massive wait for food and drinks running out!The first time was an early evening Friday, and it was all together better.Even though one trip was too busy, the service received was good. We'd probably go there again when we are back up that way!

We visited later in the day, whilst staying in Scarborough for a few nights with 3 very tired and hungry children. Food took a little longer than expected, but we were advised of this before we ordered due to a larger party in. Food wasn't a disappointment, the kids enjoyed the children's meals, which were very large as were the main dishes, I ordered the Toscada was ridiculously large as wanted a salad, but enjoyable. Really nice place, friendly staff.

Great nights sleep in one of the comfiest beds I've ever slept in. Had the Whitby scampi and the BEST chips. Staff couldn't have done more - excellent stay. Only downside was the bathroom which is in need of a complete refurbishment and a good scouring!

While on holiday in Scarborough we stopped off here for a meal and I have to say we mightily pleased we did stop. The meals were out of this world large portions pipping hot and served by very helpful and friendly staff, my daughter in law who is vegetarian said it was the best choice of vegetarian food see has seen from a restaurant. I would certainly recommend.

Have been a couple of times for of the menu food and have been quite impressed, so fancied trying the carvery. You need to take a serious look at what your doing. I will not say who I am but one meat available from 3 choices, cauliflower cheese hard not aldelte, leeks just stewed, no stiffing left, bottom of tin roast greasy potatoes, I hour from end of service is not good enough regardless of how busy you have been has a knock on effect. I will try again in a couple of weeks to make my job final judgement

Came across the Ivanhoe whilst out looking for some food. Just made it by 8pm and they still agreed to serve us even though the chef was clearing away. Food all cooked fresh, piping hot and well presented. Huge meals- loved the giant onion rings. Very friendly service, nothing was too much trouble. Just why we needed after a long day of walking. Would definitely visit again

A family group booked here. The barman, who was also responsible for table service, was outstanding - struggling to deal with many matters simultaneously. The food was generally very good - except for the so-called Sherry trifle. If it cost 25p of the £4.25 charge to make I would be surprised. There was a totally minimal amount of fruit; it was 90+% custard, and if it had been anywhere near sherry, it was only because the bottle had been in the kitchen. It kept me awake!

Booked this pub in advance for Sunday lunch for a walking party of 10 +. They were extremely friendly & helpful & reserved a table in their conservatory. Choice of plate sizes of small/medium/large - from £4.95. Three freshly-cooked roast joints available - pork, turkey & beef and as many veg as you liked. Very tasty !

I don’tknow if this place is any good. After 15 minutes waiting at the bar, only 1 person got served - by the 2 staff. The 1 ‘serving’ then left 6 of us waiting and went outside to wipe down tables. Rude, surly, we up and left.

What’s really interesting about this cafe is that it’s part of the now closed second funicular tram at the top. Loved the Yorkshire owner of the cafe ☕️. Great bacon rolls before we checked into The Grand next door 🚪 (which we liked ❤️ too)

We had a nice English breakfast for the start of our walk. Not the best ever perhaps, but enjoyable and open at 7:30. Prices are reasonable, but cash only

We had the unfortunate "luck" of spending a night at this place. Got a "suite" under the creaky flooring of the pub with noise-channelling ventilation ducts overhead, a substandard kitchen with no cupboards and wobbly table, a toilet with no ventilation, exposed pipes and disjointed faucet and a door with no handle in sight... All this came with a delayed check-in and service that leaves much to hope for. While the rooms above the pub may make for a better night's sleep, there is little hope that could improve this establishment's culture of hospitality.

Had a great Rioja wine tasting experience. A great range sampled and super snacks to go with each wine tasted. Well done. Fab afternoon out!
