Not a very warm welcome. We were not allowed to order drinks and starters first (we had to decide the whole order and order it at the same time) or look at the dessert menu when we wanted (“We will do that later.”). The waitress’ manner was very brusque. The mixed salad was from a bag and the olives were from a jar which was very disappointing for an Italian (or in fact any!) restaurant. The mains were just OK. We didn’t order dessert in the end as the moment had passed.

We have eaten here a few times over the years when visiting relatives in the area. They are now about to move and from previous experience, we chose La Lupa to have one of our last meals in Poole. While the advertised opening hours were quite late, like many restaurants these days La Lupa would appear to have taken most of their covers earlier, and we arrived as most people were finishing their meals. We hadn't booked, but we were warmly welcomed and our lovely waiter cheerfully took our order. Although we only had a main course, we were the last to leave. While we were finishing our food the staff were sitting chatting at a table in the restaurant. In no way did we feel under pressure to pay and go so they could close for the night. My husband and I both chose from the Classic Menu - Risotto con funghi and Risotto con gamberi e zucchine and our meals were cooked to perfection. I often think that with food of this nature the amount in the bowl isn't going to sate my appetite, but this was definitely not the case at La Lupa. Both meals were plentiful and tasty. Thoroughly recommended and probably advisable to book.

We had an excellent meal at this busy, independent restaurant. I would recommend booking although we were lucky enough to get the last table on a walk in. The waiting staff and manager were absolutely spot on, friendly and attentive but not over bearing. We had an excellent recommendation on wine and desert from the manager, and it was plain that she had personally been involved or at least tried everything on the menu. The food was freshly made to order, with fresh ingredients, the pesto garlic bread was a particular highlight, but we really enjoyed all 3 courses. Highly recommend as one of the top Italian restaurants in the midlands.
