The Elsted Inn

Harting, Chichester, <20£
28/08/2018: Based on reviews we picked the Elsted Inn as a ‘halfway house’ to meet some old friends from Hampshire. Perhaps we were unlucky, but none of us felt particularly satisfied after our visit.
28/08/2018: Kind and lovely service matched with food that would be considered exceptional in top tier restaurant. We had the chicken breast and it melted in our mouths and tasted like something from heaven. We will definitely treat ourselves to a return visit, even after 64 mile trip from home. Thank you to the lovely owner who designed a cocktail especially for us. Would completely recommend for anyone looking for an excellent meal in a warm and friendly pub.

The Three Horseshoes

Harting, Chichester
27/08/2018: Wanted to try somewhere new for bank holiday lunch with the family and liked the sound of this pub from previous reviews so booked a table a few days ago. I'm glad I did so as it was busy today. Sadly the weather was rather miserable so we weren't up for eating in the large garden with the lovely views and roses. Inside was old style pub - rustic wooden tables with old photos on the walls and flagstone floors. No pretentions and very friendly with a buzzy atmosphere. Obviously a popular spot and we could see why when our food came promptly. It was very tssty and good quality. We enjoyed 2 Selsey crab gratin (see pic) and 2 giant Yorkshire puds with roast beef and mash and a side of fresh veg. Portion sizes were just right so we also had room for dessert - the 2 trifles (see pic) , raspberry Pavlova and apple and blackberry crumble were all voted excellent. It was one of those blackboards where lots of dishes appealed and in hindsight we don't think any of the dishes included chips - you can't say that about many pubs and you still would not call this one a gastro pub. Our dog was also made welcome and afterwards we had a lovely walk up on nearby Harting Down on a section of the South Downs Way. An excellent bank hol day out! We will return.
26/08/2018: This is my second visit here. Last year was in Autumnal sunshine with the glorious views of the countryside. Today was in grey summer rain. THe Three Horseshoes shines whatever the weather. The staff are so hospitable for their patrons, the children and their dogs. It is a joyful place full of people enjoying the company to their friends and families. The food is absolutely outstanding. Served efficiently on lovely wooden tables. It is all freshly cooked with lots of lovely vegetable or big salads. The black board is always full of too many good things to choose from. I would also save room for a homemade dessert. My favorite is the fruit crumble with the custard...

The Keepers Arms

Harting, Chichester
19/08/2018: As the title says. There is no longer a pub here. It is now a private residence. The nearest pubs are the Elster Inn ( very good) and the pubs in Rogate and Midhurst.
16/03/2014: Very sad, we had visited this pub in the past and have always had a great meal, sadly not today, the sea bass was off as was the rack of lamb, my husband had saddle of lamb that arrived nearly raw, the lamb had been advertised with dauphinoise potatoes, they came with mash, I had belly of pork served on a bed of again mashed potato and cabbage with no crackling. When the lamb came back well cooked there were no apologies and nothing taken off the bill. I has been a meeting place for the family as it is half way between us and my son and his family but we shall have to find somewhere else in future
