I had lunch with my son last Saturday. The service was great and friendly and I enjoyed the London Pride. I did wonder why it was quite quiet on a beautiful sunny Saturday near the downs. Having eaten here a year ago, I was then rather disappointed how much the prices had climbed. I fancied the fish pie but at £23 it was too much. I had the haddock and chips for £19. Just seemed a little too steep for what it was.

Friends and I visited for Sunday lunch after a nice winter’s walk. The waiting staff were lovely, albeit tardy and delayed. Main meal served 1h 10m after arrival. Primary criticism is that of the food. The meats were largely dry and generally served luke warm though with hot gravy. This made for a sense of urgency when eating as to avoid a cold meal. Drinks and atmosphere nice, but given the price - which I am never opposed to paying - I would have expected prompt service and higher quality food. £22 per roast.

We had a fantastic experience at The White Hart in South Harting! The fish and chips were absolutely perfect—crispy, golden batter with tender, flaky fish inside, paired with perfectly cooked chips. It’s clear that the kitchen takes pride in serving quality, fresh ingredients. The staff also went above and beyond with their recommendations. They suggested a beer special that paired beautifully with the meal—it was a unique and refreshing choice that added something special to the evening. The cozy ambiance and friendly service made our visit even better. Whether you’re local or just passing through, this is a must-visit spot for great food and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. I came down from London to see my family and have been in the white hart for years but haven't been down for a while. Our waitress was lovely, friendly and very helpful. Unfortunately I can't same the same about the food. Most of us had a roast dinner. We got our food and had to wait for our cutlery, when the roast came we sent back the Yorkshire pudding as it was extremely burnt, you couldn't eat it. Mine was swimming in gravy so most of it was soggy. I think you should let people put their own gravy on their food. The sweed was cold, our potatoes were so well cooked you could hardly cut them. I broke my tooth on something hard in my stuffing. My neices fish was nice. The puddings, some of us had were nice. The roast dinner spoilt the dinner. We paid £240.00, which we never mind paying but we went home and later made something to eat. Sadly disappointed. I have always supported my local pubs as I have lived in the village most of my life.

Not a great experience, so disappointed, we had brought family with us after recommending it following a previous lunch we had which was enjoyable. Friendly staff on arrival at 1pm, we ordered promptly but waited a very long time for food, over 1.30 hours for our main meal which arrived at 2:45pm and we had my 85 year father with us. We ordered before the large table next to us but had to watch their food arrive first and then had to ask twice for updates on when we might be served. I ordered Crab Burger which was basically just crispy batter inside a dry bun with no flavour; it was also described on the menu as coming with avocado and Asian Slaw but this didn’t come with it. To be fair when we complained they apologised and said they would refund the crab meals which they did. My husband fish and chips was good. This is the first time I’ve ever left hungry from a meal out before. Two of our guests had roast dinner which certain things on the plate were cold. Will sadly not be returning in a hurry as it’s a lovely setting and the menu is good, but the service and food let it down badly on this occasion, maybe it was a one off I don’t know…..

Unfortunately a disappointing lunchtime visit on a quiet Saturday. Had booked a table and stood at bar for almost 10 minutes before any kind of acknowledgment that we were there, while a member of staff made one drink behind the bar. When eventually acknowledged and shown our table by another member of staff, no apology or recognition of the delay despite other drinkers at bar pointing this out - the poor service instead seemed to be amusing. That aside, decent food and drinks and service improved until end of meal when plates not cleared and nothing further offered, despite staff members milling about and few other customers. A shame as beautiful building in a lovely village at the foot of the Downs.

I thought the food was very overpriced. My watermelon salad was tiny and a small portion of chips was £5. Interestingly. I went to Bills the next day and had the same salad which was the same price, 4 times the size and had many more ingredients. £11 for a glass of wine. A lunch for two people with only one glass of wine and only main courses was over £50. This was not value for money. I feel ripped off frankly.

Don't often leave negative reviews but feel it is warranted in this case. We were "greeted" by a waitress whose face made it abundantly clear that she didn't want to be there. After attempting to order drinks a 20 year old member of our group was asked to show ID. Fair enough, but the law dictates that you can have a pint with food and accompanying adults (his parents were present) at 16. The waitress' suggestion, therefore, was that he looked 15- really quite a push for 6ft 3 bearded bloke. In any case 8 others vouching for him and photograph of his ID was deemed insufficient, this put a sour start on our stay. Fortunately, a much friendlier waitress took our food order. Unfortunately, our Sunday roasts took 50 minutes to arrive- with no updates or apologies for the delay. The vegetables and yorkshires were superb, very well done. The meat portions were however far from generous. A shame because this is a good local pub and I have had pleasant experiences in the past, hopefully just an off day.

The food for my 2 guests was good however my starter (calamari) was mediocre and my main course lamb steak was small dry and well over cooked. When I gave the waitress feedback she was great. However when she passed this into the chef he began screaming at here which we could hear from the dinning room. Our waitress then delivered the dessert menus then grabbed her bag and keys then stormed out the pub.. Needless to say nobody came back to our table to get dessert orders so we went to the counter to pay and left. Also after this we were still charged 12.5% service charge which is not listed as optional. Overall a bad experience which is a really pity as the venue it’s self is lovely we won’t however return!

We were very disappointed. It's a lovely old building which has been restored with outbuilding having been converted to bedrooms. Firstly, it was a good size room with a large super king-size bed and two armchairs, but the issue was the bathroom. It had carpet on the floor (who does this?), the toilet seat was loose, and the shower cubicle had black mould, lots of it! We ate in the restaurant on our first night and had a meal which was OK, certainly not outstanding. However, having later that evening spotted the mould, we avoided any further meals, including our included breakfasts. If the bathroom is so dirty, what is the kitchen like? Finally, be warned, the decor has a hunting theme, gun dogs with dead bird in their mouths, stags, antlers, etc., so if this offends you, avoid.

We visited this pub on 21/01/24 for lunch. The first impressions were good: the welcome was warm and the ambience was inviting. The menu has a reasonable range of pub classics . Some of the starters were quite small in portion size e.g. the squid. Would have expected more for the price. Most of our group enjoyed the main courses - and the portion sizes were better. Overall, it was a nice enough meal, though generally speaking, prices did feel a little high, especially with the 12.5% service charge. In a nutshell - a solid 3 stars.

Dessert (sticky toffee pudding) was not one of the greatest I've had....it had a rubbery texture, as if it had been over heated in the microwave. Prawn starter had to be sent back....even the manager said they did not taste good. I wouldn't choose to eat there again, but that is purely my opinion. Sent back, but returned still barely warm. Service poor, had to wait nearly an hour for food & no one returned to take the dessert order. Bad experience, such a shame, such a lovely pub.

Very friendly pub with good atmosphere - they really looked after me when I tuned up soaking wet at lunchtime after getting caught in a thunderstorm. Will go back on a nicer day!

Great selection of pastries, good coffee with milk substitutes. Small seating inside and lovely green area outside to enjoy.

We went here for a family meal. I enjoyed the get-together but found the service quite slow and we had to wait a long time for our food to arrive. The pub was also very quiet at the time, so it meant there was a lack of atmosphere, which was disappointing for a Saturday night.

Go there every month with mates. Great pub with simple yet perfectly cooked 'Pub Grub' Great value for money. Highly recommended.

Popped in today on bh just to grab a take away coffee while my lunch was being made @ Apla Souvlaki (see my other review) Ordered a black coffee while waiting by the till a waitress wanted to come past with plates of food so I moved out of the way and was told "you can stand there" I was out of her way but not standing over anyone sitting. Anyway had to stand basically over to ladies eating there lunch which felt abit difficult, no apologie from the waitress. Then when it came to pay for my coffee I was told they only did large for takeaway i didnt ask for large (no sign for this) Paid £3:50 for the black coffee high price even for chichester. I thanked the server and left. I wouldn't call the waitress rude however the "tone" was wrong and I would go else if someone suggested to go there. Had a nice looking selection of cakes and the coffee was a soild 7 out of 10

Lots of choices, ample parking, large cafe inside. Prices are in line with other garden centres.
