Absolutely fantastic stay at this gorgeous pub. Food was excellent as were the drinks selections! Staff were lovely and welcoming and attentive and the place is very dog friendly. We stayed over and the room was so lovely, clean comfortable and beautifully decorated, would not hesitate to recommend and would love to come back again soon!

Cycling the South Downs way with my son, we chose the White Hart as a convenient overnight stop between Winchester and Amberley. What a lucky find! We were a bit apprehensive about turning up with muddy bikes, but found a thoroughly warm welcome. Our rooms were across the courtyard from the pub, very quiet and comfortable. Proper, well-kept ales, an excellent dinner, and a monster breakfast to set us on our way the next morning.

I came down from London to see my family and have been in the white hart for years but haven't been down for a while. Our waitress was lovely, friendly and very helpful. Unfortunately I can't same the same about the food. Most of us had a roast dinner. We got our food and had to wait for our cutlery, when the roast came we sent back the Yorkshire pudding as it was extremely burnt, you couldn't eat it. Mine was swimming in gravy so most of it was soggy. I think you should let people put their own gravy on their food. The sweed was cold, our potatoes were so well cooked you could hardly cut them. I broke my tooth on something hard in my stuffing. My neices fish was nice. The puddings, some of us had were nice. The roast dinner spoilt the dinner. We paid £240.00, which we never mind paying but we went home and later made something to eat. Sadly disappointed. I have always supported my local pubs as I have lived in the village most of my life.

This is a fantastic pub in all the right ways - it’s beautiful, in a gorgeous location, serves excellent food and has a brilliant manager and staff. The former saved the day for the group of us who had been walking the South Down way and were let down by a dodgy cab company. Thank you Mike! We’ll be back x

Nestled in a fold at the foot of the South Downs this village pub modestly declares it's history. Mind your head! Beams all around and great food and drinks options cooked to order. A traditional bar with real ales. Rooms to stay. Walking to and from here takes effort but well worth it. Thanks to the friendly team here. Will go again.

Not a great experience, so disappointed, we had brought family with us after recommending it following a previous lunch we had which was enjoyable. Friendly staff on arrival at 1pm, we ordered promptly but waited a very long time for food, over 1.30 hours for our main meal which arrived at 2:45pm and we had my 85 year father with us. We ordered before the large table next to us but had to watch their food arrive first and then had to ask twice for updates on when we might be served. I ordered Crab Burger which was basically just crispy batter inside a dry bun with no flavour; it was also described on the menu as coming with avocado and Asian Slaw but this didn’t come with it. To be fair when we complained they apologised and said they would refund the crab meals which they did. My husband fish and chips was good. This is the first time I’ve ever left hungry from a meal out before. Two of our guests had roast dinner which certain things on the plate were cold. Will sadly not be returning in a hurry as it’s a lovely setting and the menu is good, but the service and food let it down badly on this occasion, maybe it was a one off I don’t know…..

Really lovely pub and in such a beautiful village. Food was all good standard pub food and very lovely staff. We were a bit surprised at the bill and thought we'd been overcharged, but they'd added a hefty service charge, which I'm not a fan of. We always leave our own tip, depending on the experience and prefer this to be left at our own discretion.

Unfortunately a disappointing lunchtime visit on a quiet Saturday. Had booked a table and stood at bar for almost 10 minutes before any kind of acknowledgment that we were there, while a member of staff made one drink behind the bar. When eventually acknowledged and shown our table by another member of staff, no apology or recognition of the delay despite other drinkers at bar pointing this out - the poor service instead seemed to be amusing. That aside, decent food and drinks and service improved until end of meal when plates not cleared and nothing further offered, despite staff members milling about and few other customers. A shame as beautiful building in a lovely village at the foot of the Downs.

It was a last minute decision to pop into the White Hart for a bite of supper last night but a very good one. The bar and dining room were both quite busy but the staff (Tom and Lynne) were cheerful and friendly and our meal was lovely. I must make special mention of the really beautifully presented Eton Mess we had for dessert (sorry, I don't do food photographs!) prepared by new chef Amelia. Thank you all so much for a lovely evening.

I thought the food was very overpriced. My watermelon salad was tiny and a small portion of chips was £5. Interestingly. I went to Bills the next day and had the same salad which was the same price, 4 times the size and had many more ingredients. £11 for a glass of wine. A lunch for two people with only one glass of wine and only main courses was over £50. This was not value for money. I feel ripped off frankly.

Don't often leave negative reviews but feel it is warranted in this case. We were "greeted" by a waitress whose face made it abundantly clear that she didn't want to be there. After attempting to order drinks a 20 year old member of our group was asked to show ID. Fair enough, but the law dictates that you can have a pint with food and accompanying adults (his parents were present) at 16. The waitress' suggestion, therefore, was that he looked 15- really quite a push for 6ft 3 bearded bloke. In any case 8 others vouching for him and photograph of his ID was deemed insufficient, this put a sour start on our stay. Fortunately, a much friendlier waitress took our food order. Unfortunately, our Sunday roasts took 50 minutes to arrive- with no updates or apologies for the delay. The vegetables and yorkshires were superb, very well done. The meat portions were however far from generous. A shame because this is a good local pub and I have had pleasant experiences in the past, hopefully just an off day.

The food for my 2 guests was good however my starter (calamari) was mediocre and my main course lamb steak was small dry and well over cooked. When I gave the waitress feedback she was great. However when she passed this into the chef he began screaming at here which we could hear from the dinning room. Our waitress then delivered the dessert menus then grabbed her bag and keys then stormed out the pub.. Needless to say nobody came back to our table to get dessert orders so we went to the counter to pay and left. Also after this we were still charged 12.5% service charge which is not listed as optional. Overall a bad experience which is a really pity as the venue it’s self is lovely we won’t however return!

We were very disappointed. It's a lovely old building which has been restored with outbuilding having been converted to bedrooms. Firstly, it was a good size room with a large super king-size bed and two armchairs, but the issue was the bathroom. It had carpet on the floor (who does this?), the toilet seat was loose, and the shower cubicle had black mould, lots of it! We ate in the restaurant on our first night and had a meal which was OK, certainly not outstanding. However, having later that evening spotted the mould, we avoided any further meals, including our included breakfasts. If the bathroom is so dirty, what is the kitchen like? Finally, be warned, the decor has a hunting theme, gun dogs with dead bird in their mouths, stags, antlers, etc., so if this offends you, avoid.

The food is vastly overpriced for the quality that arrived. A large bowl of bland orzo pasta with a piece of overcooked seabass £24. We visited this pub on 21/01/24 for lunch. The first impressions were good: the welcome was warm and the ambience was inviting. The menu has a reasonable range of pub classics . Some of the starters were quite small in portion size e.g. the squid. Would have expected more for the price. Most of our group enjoyed the main courses - and the portion sizes were better. Overall, it was a nice enough meal, though generally speaking, prices did feel a little high, especially with the 12.5% service charge. In a nutshell - a solid 3 stars.

Ok pub, average food average service. They automatically add 12.5% service charge, whether you had good service or not!! Dessert (sticky toffee pudding) was not one of the greatest I've had....it had a rubbery texture, as if it had been over heated in the microwave. Prawn starter had to be sent back....even the manager said they did not taste good. I wouldn't choose to eat there again, but that is purely my opinion. Main, desert and soft drinks for 4 people £124

All the plates were coated in a ridiculous amount of gravy. The fish and chips were over cooked and tasted like the bottom of the barrel. Not a good visit, will not be returning for food. Decor/decorum was nice. Staff were nice enough.. Came in early evening with a couple of tables already inside. Food was okay but no wow factor to it. Didn’t think prices of items reflected what we got. They forgot an item that we ordered but gave us another item that we didn’t instead, so perhaps a mix up there. No check back to see how our meal was/for us to get another drink. Chorizo, calamari, mushrooms, a side salad with a med wine and bottle of beer with service charge came just shy of £60.. which I’m in two minds about, If it was worth it based on the overall visit. Overall experience was okay but wouldn’t go back in a hurry based on experience but perhaps a one off.
