Bumble's Cafe in Chichester

Very friendly and homely with delicious cake.

I visited Bumble's cafe with my wife and small children. The cafe has lot of trinkets around at low level which appear to be very precious to the staff. Salt and pepper shakers were removed from my 4 year old who had them in her hands which we then had to ask again for once food arrived. The food was below average and being sold as "homemade". I would say it represented flavourless store bought more. I had the quiche which was ok, side salad was very old with withered leaves. Wife had a "Tuna Toastie" which was in fact some dry Tuna with no cheese served between 2 slices of un -buttered toast. Overall a disappointing expensive visit (considering food quality) and not suitable for children.

Nice little cafe, quick service, good prices, charming decor upstairs, breakfast is tasty good. UPDATE October 2024 Noticed prices have increased again. Breakfast was originally £7.95 about a year ago, now it's £9.95. *Coffee, i.e capuccino, latte etc is now £3.25 for a regular. The latte in my opinion is now over priced for the regular sized cup, and the breakfast at £9.95 is competing with other cafe's in town that offer possibly a better quality/value/portion size breakfast for that money, It's good to support local businesses so i will still happily recommend this cafe, -----Regarding this response from Bumble Cafe----- Response from the owner 53 minutes ago Thank you for your kind review, But the prices you have used are incorrect, As you must be aware all prices have gone up and we thought very deeply before rising our prices as all other business have done the same at this difficult time Hopefully things improve! Me and my 6 year old son came here for lunch a couple of days ago and loved it! Staff super friendly and lovely food! He had a cooked breakfast and I had bacon and poached egg on toast! Was delicious! Also brought 2 pairs of bee earrings which are lush!

Such a lovely place! Today I ordered the 'Soup of the day' which was broccoli and stilton and Sausage and Mash. The only downside was that I was given a cold bread roll for the soup which looked like it and tasted like it was store bought, 😔 Other than that it was good.

This is a lovely little quirky cafe! Staff are always very friendly and welcoming. A few tables downstairs but plenty of seating upstairs. Each room upstairs have a different theme and it feels very cosy. They have a breakfast and lunch menu and plenty of cake options, hot drinks and cold non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks available. Located close to the high street and not far from bus and train station. I've had coffee here and lunch several times. Highly recommend a visit if you haven't been here before.

Briefly stopped by for a Hot Chocolate to warm myself up. The Shop was close to closing but the staff were talkative and friendly. Hot chocolate was very tasty and worth the value.

Absolutely loved this little family run eatery for a quick Thursday lunch. Will definitely head back! Was persuaded to try the homemade brocoli and boursin soup of the day, and it was delicious. Partner loved his cheese toastie and the carrot cake and custard took me right back to school. We also bought a couple more scones for later and were again, delighted with the quality. Service was quick and very lovely. Highly recommended

So glad we came across Bumbles! A delightful place, good value, lovely home cooked food, and reasonably priced drinks. As a family group of 7 we had an upstairs room to ourselves, the decor and sofa made it feel like a special occasion! Everyone's meal was delicious - all day breakfast with excellent bubble and squeak, steak pie, soup of the day, smoked Salman and goats cheese salad, pork, chorizo and beetroot salad, and pancakes with maple syrup and ice cream. Yum!

Went here for a mid afternoon tea and cake with family. The staff are friendly but seemed in somewhat of a hurry for us to get out quickly as it was drawing 3:50 ten minutes before they close. However the cake and other sweet treats are great quality and worth the price (about £4.50 when I came. The eating area is well designed. The stairs to the upstairs area and toilets are steep and the cafe itself isn't accessible. I will come again and would recommend it to friends.

We love this simple cosy dog friendly coffee. Staff are always friendly the coffee is the best in Chichester and the cakes are delicious. The sandwiches, egg and bacon on toast and soup are really good too.

Yesterday's food warmed up, call bit the woman was rude

Sweet little cafe with a great selection of breakfasts, meals and sweet treats. Coffee was piping hot which is far superior to anything available in the usual outlets. Nice slice of fruit cake, succulent, and fruit filled. Loved it.

Resembles a hospital dinner.. HOWEVER, it is quite cheap so you do get what you pay for. I’m sure the fresh bakes/toasties etc are probably ok.

Not disability or child friendly, what we thought was going to be an interesting and quirky place was in fact unfriendly. Too many things around for those who don't understand not to touch. One customer with special needs was shouted st for touching Food was OK. But all still hungry after and pricey for what we got. Staff plonked food in front of us snd leant over us

Not very disabled or kid friendly. Has alot of trinkets you arnt aloud to touch, and if you do staff are confrontational. Very steep steps. Food overpriced for what you get

This little Gem of a coffee shop is definitely worth a visit. Although small looking from outside it is much larger than expected with plenty seating upstairs. The quality of the food is excellent, definitely not a cheap feel and lots of homemade dishes and cakes. The staff are very attentive and friendly, great if you want a chat or equally if you want some peace. Highly recommend this establishment and with a license can also serve a wine or beer with your meal. I haven’t done this but see it o-end late sometimes as well as hires out it’s upstairs for functions which may interest people.

The potato was hard, and the packaging was all soggy drink was all over the bag, Bacon was undercooked The delivery driver left my food on the floor and didn’t even knock

Found this place as we got iff the train. Warm welcome upon entering. Coffee and food ordered and arrived promptly. Nice coffee. Reasonably priced and a pleasant surrounding. Cakes looked very nice and promised to return for some later. Unfortunately, we got there after they closed!!! Highly recommended.

Looking for somewhere different to eat in Chi with my son and found this lovely cafe near the bottom end of South Street, lovely little rooms with different decorations, we were overlooked by Ethel, in the upstairs room that we chose, fast service, very friendly staff and lovely 'real' food, nice and hot. Worth walking down South Street for this little gem!

This has been one of the best Coffee Shop experiences I have had in a very long time. Fast and friendly service yet I did not feel "hurried along". Such a cosy and welcoming place for a brunch or lunch. The meal was amazing and actually served hot, so was the coffee. And the hot chocolate was AMAZING! I do recommend this to anyone in Chichester for an outing, be it alone or with friends.

A real gem of a place and a bit of tardis! Lovely owners, yummy cake and lots of bits and bobs (all made by various family members) for sale. Really enjoyed our visit, thank you for the delish fig cake!!

Avoid!! Owner VERY Rude, not a way to run a business. Stopped by to have a bite to eat. Sat down and put my coat on the back of the chair next to me. A café worker reached behind me to get some cakes; Suddenly I was told by a café worker that I had knocked down a candle (it could have been her!) When I looked, I could see wax all over the back of my jacket. Little tea lights had been dotted about all over the place, to (I was told) make it look Christmassy. The owner told me that it was my fault as I was clumsy, she didn’t take any responsibility for the fact that she was carrying out dangerous practices in her business. You can see from the photos how close the candles were to the chairs that customers were to sit on. This time it was my coat, next time it could be a child hair that catches fire! Was a Risk Assessment carried out before lighting the candles? I very much doubt it. When the owner saw me taking the photos she became very aggressive and told me to talk to her if I had a problem, I had tried to talk with her, but she over talked me on every occasion and proceeded to tell me that she had spoken to her solicitor and “Good luck with whatever you are going to do with those photos, you are on camera” (I hope the recording is being kept as we may well need it) When I tried to talk to her, she told us “You can leave now” Her manner throughout was RUDE AND AGGRESSIVE! Really, is this any way to talk to a customer, she clearly was not going to make an apology or take an ounce of blame for her dangerous working practices. As you can see from previous reviews this is not the first time or I doubt the last time she will be rude to customers. I have only given it one star because I have to or cant post. -10 stars is my true rating!!

Superb find in Chichester very friendly staff, really good coffee and the cakes, all homemade, were delicious. Husband had bread pudding, which he said was excellent, and I had the best millionaire shortbread I've ever had! Will definitely head straight there next time we're in Chichester.

We had a weird experience here. Me and my partner just wanted to have some drinks but kept being asked (7 times in total) if we were going to buy food. Eventually we were told we'd have to leave if we didn't order food. We actually were initially considering getting lunch but became put off the idea after all the pestering

No coffee as it had spilt on roll, I kept the bacon roll as I was hungry, but slightly coffee flavoured. Restaurant partly to blame by packaging not being fit for purpose

A lovely, friendly cafe with proper home cooked food. Portions are generous, fairly priced and very tasty. We are becoming regulars and there is a variety to choose from breakfast, lunches, puddings and cakes. My husband says the coffee is delicious. Great customer service and not a chain. Support the independent businesses please.

Delicious. Delivery was a bit pricey compared to others in the area but on the other hand I didn't have to lose valuable desk time to get a decent lunch. Very happy. Will use again.

Don’t order I ordered 2 cokes they sent me one, the beans was all over the bag when delivered, the staff member then hung up on me when I rang about my missing coke, rude service

First review on any of these food apps. And honestly, I can't tell you how bad this was. Paid £30 for 2 bacon baps and an 'All Day Breakfast', bacon, sausage, egg and beans. Completely tasteless. The coffee was OK but the food was dreadful.

Wow, I've never had such an amazing passive aggressive experience from a couple of waitresses. Things like, it's coming up to lunch time, if you want coffee just sit upstairs. We need this table by 12, for those eating. It was 11.20 in the morning. Recommended visit to see how customer service should not be done. Trying hard to be kitsch but ends up as a junk shop with no style or elegance.

My young son was desperate for the toilet after plucking up the courage he very politely ask if he could use the loo. He was told by the owner he wasn't allowed to as its for customers only. What a horrible thing to do to a child! What sort of vile person would do that? We have been in for breakfast twice and on both occasions we felt it was overpriced and substandard. May have gone back but that's never going to happen now.

Attractice quirky cafe especially upstairs .But the food let it down. Husband had "homemade steak" pie.A nice tasty gravy but very litte meat (and he isn't a big eater)and the puff pastry very soggy from gravy over it and then heated in microwave.I had the macaroni cheese which was nice but dry...and the bacon which was laid over the top had been microwaved so some of it too leathery to eat.Salad with it was nice.We sat by front window upstairs and the window sill needed a proper clean.Woold try again for tea and cake as hubby said coffee very good,although no cream available.

Can not believe the driver went to the wrong place then called to argue the address was wrong , whilst he was in the wrong place and still wanted to argue and tell me I needed to change address, I did not need an argument I just needed my food, as it was going cold, very disappointed with the driver

Pleasant enough but food was poor. English breakfast had obviously been sitting for ages and when served was not good. Didn't complain because everybody is so close and didn't want to cause a scene. Quite pricey.

This place is just lovely. Downstairs is a nice little cafe but go upstairs is 3 sitting rooms. You feel like your at home! So lovely. Can't wait to go again. The Stair are a little steep but it's worth the clime!

Hopeless. Looks like they have never heard of vegetarians or vegans. I wanted a veggie breakfast but nothing on menu at all. Am sure if I'd asked they'd have sorted something but the fact that they hadn't even addressed needs of veggies on the menu shows they probably live in the 1950s Their lack of consideration = lack of business One potential customer lost. Perhaps they should go on a goodbusiness management course. Sooner rather than later ...please!
