Called early one Saturday lunchtime and had a ploughman's lunch. They were very quiet, but I suspect this was due to the poor weather and our timing. The food and drink was great, with a large portion, and we will return.

What a lovely surprise this was. At first, I was a bit skeptical as the barman was a bit grumpy. But he turned out to have a heart of gold. The food at diner was very nice and the vegetarian dish was very tasty. In the morning the breakfast was a delight and they even gave us a free lunch package as we were nice to the dog.😄

Booked early for supper. Although a table had been reserved the location given was cramped and uncomfortable with very little leg room. The food I ordered consisted of a baked dish of small bacon pieces, cheese etc which was well presented and tasty. The main, of coronation chicken salad however was excessively oily and cloying. The pudding ordered was a meringue which seemed to be a commercially made one topped with fresh fruit and cream. On the whole I found the experience rather disappointing particularly for the price although I must say the service and wait times were good.

We booked the Inn having seen the website of the previous owners which turned out to be a non-existent place. We were therefore in for a surprise: Steve and Maria had only just taken over the place and were actually closed-door! But they kindly booked us in for the night on a B&B basis. Much needed as we had walked 22 miles. They bent over backwards to make our stay comfortable, they were very welcoming, the food (bangers and mash veg option!!) was fantastic and tasty, the fire was roaring even in the morning during a wonderful breakfast. The room was nice and we woke up to a lovely morning with the room basking in the sunshine. Maria and Steve have a lot of work to do but have most certainly started and I reckon this inn will be one of the best in the surroundings.

What a lovely country pub, the new Landlord Paul and his staff were most welcoming. A great selection of bitters on draft (other drinks also available 😀) We ate with friends and had a lovely three course meal, all beautifully cooked and presented. And the bill with two bottles of very pleasant red wine, was exceptionally reasonable, and a fair bit less than most pubs in the area. Well worth a visit, and we shall return.

What a difference! New owner, Paul, has made an immediate impact on this once great pub. Not only has he got great plans for the future but he has made real improvements already. The beer is well kept and sensibly priced, the food is proper pub food with absolutely no pretensions to be ‘gastro’! We ate there tonight and along with other diners really enjoyed our well cooked and presented meal. The place has clearly had a thorough clean and lick of paint and once again feels welcoming, relaxed and homely. Staff were welcoming and efficient. Long may the improvements continue. If you haven’t been before or for a long time - give it a try. You won’t be disappointed !

The Elsted Inn, with its warm log fires and inviting atmosphere, is a true gem among pubs. And Rosemarie, the landlady, is the heart and soul of this wonderful establishment. Before you step through the door feast your eyes on Rosemarie’s hanging baskets as you are welcomed with a friendly smile and made to feel at home. Rosemarie is an exceptional host, always going above and beyond to ensure that her guests have the best possible experience. The pub's cozy atmosphere is perfect for relaxing with friends or family, and the log fires create a warm and inviting ambiance. The décor is rustic and charming, with plenty of character and history that adds to the overall charm of the place. The drinks selection is also excellent, with a range of beers on offer, Rosemarie is always on hand to offer recommendations and advice. Overall, The Elsted Inn is a fantastic pub with a fantastic landlady. Rosemarie's warmth, hospitality, make this pub a must-visit for anyone in the area. We arrived at 8pm after me describing what a lovely cosy pub the Elsted is to my mother-in-law who was treating us to a meal during her stay. Therefore, so disappointed to walk into a fire which was not lit. We had to ask for menus and would have liked to see them before deicing what we were drinking but a small point, we should have said. The dining room was quite full but it still felt far less warm than we expected. We went straight to mains which were gorgeous, ie venison pie, ox cheek and a fillet of brill all accompanied with lovely vegetables. The Guinness was good apparently and the French Sauvignon fine. All our desserts were exceptional but by this time even my husband's legs (and he is always warm) felt almost cold. We noticed the fire in the bar area for the drinkers was lit so were baffled by an empty fire the diner's side. We drove home and boosted the car heater and agreed we wouldn't rush back which is such a shame but for half an hour's drive away not a comfortable evening.

Firstly I would say the place lacked any real ambience - it didn’t have cosy charm or atmosphere and we noticed that the restaurant was t exactly buzzing. We had to wait a long time for service and the food was very average in our opinion. What we had was tasty enough but there was far too little of it! The fondant potato was just one piece of potato - delicious but a joke in regard to filling you. I normally don’t touch sugary desserts but was forced to order ice cream to give myself any sense of fullness! We both thought that overall it is a gastro pub that tries to be fine dining. This may suit some people but not us! We wouldn’t return.

We didn’t feel we could manage starters and mains so were encouraged to have olives and bread which again we didn’t want so didn’t. To be told that mains would take longer than usual, and they did. The men had roasts and veg was served plated. They certainly could have done with an extra roast potato or two. The meat was just ok but the Yorkshire puds were flat. Good food, freshly made to order and made properly in a kitchen as oppose to bought in I think. You can taste the freshness and quality. Nice walks in the area too. Recommended.

We stayed a night here and were lucky to get the upstairs room with balcony - a g&t; looking out onto hills in the evening sun was a lovely start to the evening. The room was very comfortable, with everything we needed.

Whilst staying at the The Elsted Inn on our South Downs Way walk, we had dinner. I’m had monkfish, my partner had pork belly and lemon sponge and ginger treacle for pudding. All I can say is that we were both floored by the quality and care that these dishes brought. The staff were clearly knowledgeable but not at all pretentious. They just love what they do, and that translates.

An old school friend and I have been steadily working our way along the South Downs Way, a few stages at a time, each Easter holiday. With the final few stages to go, we arrived at the Elsted Inn to a warm and friendly welcome. Our initial impressions were confirmed by our one night stay. Everyone we met was friendly and accommodating, we both had a great night's sleep and the breakfast in the morning was really delicious.

A warm and friendly pub with a good atmosphere. All three courses were excellent, the rib eye steak is one of the best I’ve had (if not the best!)

Stayed for one night before walking the harting section of the South Downs way. The room was lovely with a balcony and comfortable bed. The staff were all so friendly and consistently accommodating. Even going so far as to prepare last minute packed lunches, and an off-menu vegan meal. When we mentioned one of us was a vegan when booking we had no idea they would make the effort to prepare such a delicious dinner and breakfast - huge shout out to Gareth and his phenomenal ‘Facon’. Definitely stay here it’s great.

Four of us stumbled across this characterful, welcoming pub by accident on a Sunday lunchtime. We intended to just have a drink but were so impressed with the look of the pub and the friendly staff that we decided to stay for lunch. The mushroom ravioli, pork and beef roast dishes we had were delicious. All the ingredients are locally sourced, even the exotic choice of teas were a nice end treat.

Stumbled upon this pub by accident whilst out walking a few weeks ago and stopped for a quick drink. Was impressed by the warm welcome and how busy the pub was for a Sunday afternoon. We enjoyed our drinks whilst sat out enjoying the sunshine in the back garden. We then came back another time for an evening meal and the staff were again extremely friendly and the food was delicious. The mixture of fabulous local food, good beer selection and cosy decor makes this pub perfect for us. Glad it’s a local one :)

Really no reason for this wonderful pub to lose a star - not in my review anyway. We stopped by after a walk on the S Downs way and were bowled over by the quality of the welcome (we were late), the food (it was eye wateringly wonderful) and the beer (it was beer!).

Really not what I was expecting from a mixed pub and restaurant - thought at best the food would be average, typical pub grub. I was very happily surprised at the obvious quality of the food! Had a roast and wow! The meat was perfectly cooked and evidentally an expensive quality, tasted absolutely gorgeous with the vegetables and the gravy was not too thick and not too thin. All seasoned perfectly, and not too salty which I find is common for pubs nowadays. Now the prices made a whole lot of sense, and really I would have easily paid a whole lot more if this quality of food was at a different establishment. I went with a relatively large group: myself, my parents and my grandparents, and we all shared the same views. We were served quickly and the lady who served us was attentive and incredibly friendly - despite it being quite busy, she never failed to keep an eye on us and kept our drinks topped up whilst keeping a lovely smiley appearance and a cheery demeanour. Pudding was heavenly! I admit I have a sweet tooth, but my goodness it was delicious! Perfect size as well. Other bits to add: the toilets are well presented and clean, the general look of the place is clean and homely, with a clear divide between the restaurant and bar, nice and warm which was great for my grandparents (we weren't even sitting by the fireplace), garden is a good size, well kept and must be lovely in the summer! We came to this pub on an off chance, after an establishment nearby was somewhat of a disappointment, but really I don't think we'll be going anywhere but here after such a brilliant experience! Thank you to the lovely landlady and compliments to the chef! We shall be back soon to sample more of your delicious food!

Chef Ravi rose magnificently to the curry challenge! I managed to down about half my venison and prawn curries, served with rice and condiments, but luckily my companion finished his grilled skewer and demolished the rest. Terrific to have authentic Indian food available in Graffham (on special request). Bravo to the the White Horse for extending its excellent range.

My wife’s aunt and cousin enthused about this pub so we decided to have lunch with them on a Thursday in November. The pub is signposted from the main road and is down a narrow lane to Chidham with passing places at intervals. The car park at the back is not so large so many visitors seem to park in the village. Virtually every table was taken which is always a good sign for mid week dining. The four of us had a variety off of dishes and my seafood tagliatelle was delicious. We were very impressed with the speed of service from the two lovely ladies and lively atmosphere of the pub. The portions are quite large so if you have a smaller appetite we would recommend their small portion menu. My wife’s cousin recommended the mussels which were not on the menu the day we visited so we must return to try them. A very enjoyable lunch catching up with old friends too.

Visited here for afternoon tea. Welcome was ok, but then we waited for a while to see if there was a free table. Bizarrely no one else was in the cafe and the upstairs service where we were seated was almost unfriendly and you felt you were in the way. When we asked for a spoon for our tea we were greeted with a huff and puff… Gets good reviews elsewhere, but sadly not from us..

So disappointed by this place . First visit and won’t be returning! Ordered Avo on sourdough with poached eggs . Asked for the eggs to be well done . It wasn’t sourdough but cheap white bread . Eggs were runny so asked them to redo . 2nd attempt the eggs were still runny so my partner ate it . Large coffees ordered and just a normal sized cheap mug and not very hot . £17 totally wasted . We also ordered a croissant which was the only thing acceptable. Customer service - zero! Young staff who don’t care , smile or make u feel welcome . They need training asap or replacing . Us customers pay their wages - at least earn if . Doesn’t cost anything to be helpful or to smile . Will NOT be returning .
