For a remote pub this place is perfect if looking to have lunch and get people off their phones. No signal which means people have to talk and acknowledge. Visited here for some lunch and have to admit the food was really nice. Sitting in the beer garden it felt so peaceful and it showed how popular it is as customers arriving in droves throughout stay. Bit of a sod to find so be sure you google point it. Overall great little puv

This pub is our go to pub for food drinks and chill out time. Lovely garden in warmer weather and great for those on a walk across the south downs. Character pub with log fire with that cosy feel in winter. Food is exceptional and dog friendly. Cannot fault and hope to be visiting for many years to come.

We only stopped off for a drink whilst out walking along the South Downs Way. It isn't far off the route and as it was a lovely autumn day it was nice to sit outside in the pretty garden. The landlord made us feel very welcome and the pint of Guiness was a good one. We didn't try the food on this occasion, but it looked good. So, maybe next time.

3 of us called into the Royal Oak on the way back from Goodwood Revival after finding this pub on Google Maps. My brother and I had steak that was nice and tender. My sister in law had the mushroom pie which she said was delicious. We chatted with a couple of locals who had a lovely little puppy. The landlord and staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Will definitely be back as it’s a great walking area.

Lovely old pub, down a single track, dead end road, in the middle of nowhere! I first came here in 1978. Fascinating history, displayed around the inside. Basic but good pub food. Nice selection of beers and friendly staff. Plenty of seating inside and out. The original single bar room is now a lower dining area. The main pub area now, being part of the original house.

Hidden away within the South Downs National Park is this little gem of a place. We went with friends as it was their local. Lovely quaint 16th century country pub. Good for walks nearby. There's a beer garden with lots of tables and parasols. Tasty pub food and drinks thanks to Dave, and Sarah the cook. A free house with real ale available, three being local ales. Undoubtedly this could well become our local too! What's not to like.

This pub is difficult to reach: the drive way of narrow and it is a bit of a diversion from the south downs way along a restricted bridleway. The people are quite friendly though, allowing a tab and serving tasty food (although the pie was a bit watery the crumble with custard was awesome). They have good seating outside. There are at least two bridleways leading to the pub, one from telegraph house and the other from the farm. This means that instead of doing beacon hill you could divert past the pub.

Traditional pub tucked away down a single lane dirt track, this was such a lovely surprise! The landlord and staff could not have been more welcoming, (my pooch felt very much at home!), the simple food was beautifully cooked (venison pie - proper pie base, so unusual these days they had to tell us it was edible!) The small selection of local beers catered for all our tastes and the log fire and wood burner kept us nice and toasty after a chilly walk. We will definitely be back!

A lovely 17th century haunted pub in the middle of nowhere. What a find! Huge sunny gardens with cottage garden flowers and shrubs and quaint pub, tho not open all day and only some evenings. The setting is amazing if you're a bird lover as pub is set practically in a forest with trees around it and loads of bird noises! So relaxing. A popular with walkers. Very good homemade food menu. Prices of soft drinks I thought were a little high but worth it for the setting. Car parking adequate but only for pub patrons so walkers literally passing by on foot. Definitely worth at least one visit. Dogs welcome.

Visited here for afternoon tea. Welcome was ok, but then we waited for a while to see if there was a free table. Bizarrely no one else was in the cafe and the upstairs service where we were seated was almost unfriendly and you felt you were in the way. When we asked for a spoon for our tea we were greeted with a huff and puff… Gets good reviews elsewhere, but sadly not from us..

Decor/decorum was nice. Staff were nice enough.. Came in early evening with a couple of tables already inside. Food was okay but no wow factor to it. Didn’t think prices of items reflected what we got. They forgot an item that we ordered but gave us another item that we didn’t instead, so perhaps a mix up there. No check back to see how our meal was/for us to get another drink. Chorizo, calamari, mushrooms, a side salad with a med wine and bottle of beer with service charge came just shy of £60.. which I’m in two minds about, If it was worth it based on the overall visit. Overall experience was okay but wouldn’t go back in a hurry based on experience but perhaps a one off.
