The Wildebeest

Stoke Holy Cross, South Norfolk, 30-45£
13/08/2019: It seems strange that such a fine restaurant isn't located in the centre of Norwich but the fact that it isn't and was very busy on a Monday evening shows how willing people are to travel for excellent food.
10/08/2019: We had not visited the Wildebeest for a number of years as we felt it was not as we knew it initially and we did not enjoy our last two experiences there. However, last Monday started as a sad occasion for us as a family but after the event we were booked for lunch at The Wildebeest - a family group of ten. We were over an hour early but the table was ready for us and the staff were welcoming and very happy for us to sit at the table with drinks and give our orders early, as and when we were ready.. Nothing was too much trouble for them and the service was efficient and professional. We were not hurried through it all, which was pleasing and we were able to sit and relax and enjoy a glass of wine while we gathered ourselves together. The food was truly exceptional and such a very pleasant surprise from our last visit some years back. It was beautifully presented, freshly and expertly cooked and seasoned, and full of wonderful flavours. Not one of us could fault anything at all. Everyone considered they had chosen very well from the tempting dishes on the menu and certainly look forward to visiting again. It was the perfect and relaxing interlude after what started as a rather sad day for us. After a few years gap between our last visit and this latest one, we can quite see why The Wildebeest has such good reviews now. Thoroughly recommended. A lovely meal to remember this time and looking forward to another visit before too long.

Mad Hatters Tea Shop

Abbey, South Norfolk, <20£
17/08/2019: Stopped off in Wymondham for a coffee and came across this gem of a little café. The coffee was good - we were offered the choice of one shot or two, and mugs were a good size and filled right up. The cheese scone was really delicious. Service was excellent. Good value for money too. Would strongly recommend.
03/08/2019: Everything about this cafe exceeded expectation ! Super welcoming staff ( everyone ! ), proactive, attentive & accommodating service and a really delicious cream tea...all within a very ‘quaint’ set up. Wymondham itself is worth diverting to on a tour of Norfolk. It’s got a ‘homely’, local feel - people interacting and acknowledging one another ( including strangers ! ) and has within it everything from a very ‘handsome’ Abbey to a Needlework shop and a ‘straight from the farm’ butchers. A worthwhile hour...

Stoke Mill Contemporary Fine Dining

Stoke Holy Cross, South Norfolk, 30-45£
11/08/2019: We both went for the 7 course tasting menu and every dish was fantastic, we couldn’t fault any of it. We were then bought out the selection of cheeses which we presumed were part of the included price (as shown on the menu) I paid the bill but not all of the service charge as £14 nearly tip is ludicrous, I feel that personally telling me what to tip is both rude and actually puts me off tipping, needless to say I rounded the bill up to £140 as the food was worth it. It wasn’t until my girlfriend reviewed the bill on the drive home to discover we had been charged £6 for the cheese, if we knew there was a charge neither of us would have had it as we don’t really like cheese. I called up to explain that it was misleading and I wasn’t very happy but had no answer, I have since left a voicemail but I am yet to hear back, multiple calls today (the day after) and it seems nobody has the ability to answer a phone, such a shame that this tainted our evening and to be honest it’s the thing I think will stick with us when people mention the restaurant.
11/08/2019: Amazing fine dining food and a respectable menu, full of options! Great selection of wines, and would wholeheartedly recommend the cheese board for dessert!

Marlingford Bell

Easton, South Norfolk, <20£
17/08/2019: Was a bit apprehensive about coming here for a meal again as had a few near average experiences in the past.
28/07/2019: Very nice location about 10 minutes drive from Norwich Very clean and nicely decorated friendly staff Very tasty hot food which tasted very fresh Many thanks

Poringland with the Framinghams, South Norfolk, 45-60£
16/08/2019: We had an amazing birthday lunch today at Brasteads, the food was excellent and service very good. We received a very warm welcome from Ash the maitre d’ he took our coats and showed us to our table. First off we had a drink virgin monitors to sip while we browsed the menus. Lots to choose from and some very good vegan and veggie choices. I started with the vegan option and so did my bestie. Rolled celeriac stuffed mushrooms, shallots with an almond velout’e dressed with shoots. We agreed it was very tasty and well presented. For our main dishes I had fillet of sea bream with fondant potatoes and peas. We also shared a dish of mixed veg. The fish was perfect I enjoyed every mouthful. Bestie had the breast of duck served with oyster mushrooms , mushroom dust grapes potatoes and the mixed veg. It to was delicious, we were busy swooping spoons to see who had the best meal. I can honestly say they were both amazing. We enjoyed the attention to detail and the service was very good. Ash talked us through the meal and explained a little how everything was made. Presentation from start to finish is of the highest standard we ended our meal with strawberries soaked in gin served with a granita and white chocolate wafer. Brasteds is top of our list for a place to eat, lovely atmosphere, welcoming and excellent price lunch for two £60.00
10/08/2019: We met friends for lunch at this excellent place on a quiet Friday. The food is superb. Portions not too big - this is a failing in so many Norfolk restaurants where they prefer to pile the plate high - and of such high quality. There is a set two or three course lunch time menu on Thursdays and Fridays. Only abut ten minutes for the centre of Norwich and plenty of parking space when you get there.

White Horse Chedgrave

Chedgrave and Thurton, South Norfolk
06/08/2019: My partner and I had a lovely meal good food and service really good value for money and a lovely ginger cake dessert
06/07/2019: Popped into the pub for lunch, a very warm welcome from Simon & his team. The food was fantastic, freshly cooked and sooo tasty - recommend the goat cheese starter & homemade soup of the day (onion & cider). The main courses did not disappoint either - homemade fish cake / pan fried chicken in a mustard sauce. All in all very very nice - please pass on our thanks to your team, including Dan the chef. Thank u. Kim & Neil

The Ferry House

Rockland, South Norfolk
17/08/2019: A lovely dog and child friendly pub right next to River Yare. We were able to moor up right next to the pub. A really friendly staff serving good beer and amazing food. Portions are generous and prices reasonable. The steak and ale pie was amazing. Best I have sampled anywhere. A great little find. Shame it has taken us about 15 years of boating on the broads before stopping at this pub. We won't leave it so long next time. Thanks for the friendly service and amazing food.
06/08/2019: We'd passed The Ferry on a day boat trip and decided to come back a three weeks later for a pub lunch. Starting with a drink on the lawn on a sunny day we went indoors to eat and enjoyed good food and drink with friendly helpful staff. Good value, no issues. We'll be back.

Angel Cafe

Diss, South Norfolk, <20£
07/07/2019: Nice find of a local cafe, that was almost full at 10am in the morning. Wide selection of food - from full english breakfast, pies, sandwiches to pancakes. Unfortunatelly whole experience was spoiled by food arriving "luke-warm" and when asked staff to re-heat I had to wait almost another 10 minutes.
15/06/2019: Lovely food and service but its really annoying that there are no menu's on the tables and you have to stand at the counter and read the menu on the wall, I ended up ordering something i didn't really want as i felt rushed, its nice to be able to sit down with a menu and take a little time to choose.

The Crown Inn

Beck Vale, South Norfolk, >100£
11/08/2019: We decided to go at the last minute and we had a great home cooked tasty meal, we all picked something different to eat and it was all tasty and freshly cooked. Nice atmosphere and we were made to feel from the time we went in. Great service, great food too.
30/07/2019: A last minute decision to go out for lunch and was busier than expected for a Tuesday afternoon. Despite there only being one member of staff behind the bar she acknowledged us whilst serving others saying she wouldn’t be a minute and was very friendly. Food was first class and served in a timely manner. Staff, food, atmosphere were all first class and would definitely recommend it. We’ll definitely be returning soon

The Crown at Burston

Bressingham and Burston, South Norfolk
21/07/2019: Had a lovely Sunday lunch here today. Home cooked with homemade sauces. A wonderful setting, really friendly and great food. Lots going on at the pub too. This is a must visit pub.
06/07/2019: An early supper with the family. Great beer, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and really delicious food. We will be back very soon.

Diss, South Norfolk
13/07/2019: Really nice little authentic Turkish restaurant. The menu has plenty of options and good prices. Nice touch with the bread and olives before the meal. Service is very good.
14/06/2019: Our family just loves this traditional Turkish restaurant and we’ve enjoyed another delicious meal this evening. The food is always delicious with firm favourites like Calamari, lamb shish and baklava. Highly recommended

Les Amandines Vegetarian Restaurants

Diss, South Norfolk
14/08/2019: Love the food, atmosphere and staff. Didn’t realise it was a veggie restaurant the first time I visited and have been back several times since. My new favourite place in Diss!
06/08/2019: I love the food here it's outstanding. There is so much flavour. My favourite desert is the bread and butter pudding. It's so nice. Will visit again.

The Old Kings Head

Scole, South Norfolk, <20£
17/08/2019: We had a group lunch here - lovely round table too which made it easier to chat. Very descriptive menu offering great selection of pizzas, salads and pasta. Everyone enjoyed their lunch choice. Very friendly too. Particularly recommend the extensively stocked bar and, for a change, a great selection of non alcoholic drinks.
16/08/2019: When I asked which of their wines were vegetarian, I was told by a barmaid in a rather rude tone that the only way she would know would be to read the back of every bottle.

Wheatacre White Lion

Thurlton, South Norfolk
12/08/2019: We found this gem of a place while looking for a place to pitch our motorhome. We are newbies to the motorhome world so rang before booking, the lady was most helpful in the telephone.
07/08/2019: What a lovely place. The food was just wonderful, beautifully cooked and presented and the staff so friendly and welcoming. Can’t wait to go back.

The Green Dragon

Abbey, South Norfolk
17/08/2019: Excellent food, excellent staff and excellent service! Caesar salad, fish and chips, chicken in mushroom sauce and ham, egg and chips all really good.
11/08/2019: Loved the style of this pub with quirky interior - staff friendly and range of decent beers excellent. Varied menu good value and all meals were tasty. Weather was good enough to sit outside in lovely garden - a perfect summer evening. Well worth a visit.
