Tasty steaks, cooked to everyone’s liking. A shared T-bone satisfied both diners, a sirloin was very enjoyable, and the flatiron surprised a sometimes reluctant steak eater, since it was not only tender, but very flavoursome. The accompanying vegetables were nicely cooked and tasty, while the sauce portions were very generous and would easily satisfy more than one person. The service was pleasant and efficient, and the atmosphere was fine; not too noisy for a busy Saturday night.

We visited recently for my birthday. The restaurant was lovely, great food and friendly staff. The crispy cauliflower tasted lovely but wasn't crispy unfortunately. The spicy lamb sausages were gorgeous, although only 3 for two of us, 4 sausages would be better! Garlic and chili prawns were super (needed bread to mop up the tasty sauce!) we shared the beef cheeks which again was gorgeous. We need to return next summer as the external courtyard looks lovely to sit out in. Only drawback in winter would be visiting the toilets which are located in the courtyard, would need a coat!! But don't let that put anybody off, this is due to the layout of the old building which can't really be changed.

Fabulous place to go for breakfast, very friendly staff, luckily we were early as very popular place to eat being made obvious by a queue forming outside and I could see why as we really enjoyed our breakie. We chose it as it was very close to viking centre and we were lucky we did as it was a good start to the day, we were greeted and served by a very friendly staff member Soph, thank you

Oh wow! This place hits the spot in so so many ways! The service is brilliant (all the staff are super friendly, attentive and efficient) and the food is great. You might have to queue to get a table (we didn’t as we arrived fairly early) but the wait is well worth it. I had the avocado on sourdough bread (topped mine with two poached eggs) and it was fabulous-the kids had pancake stacks….light and fluffy with the best ever berries, and the son and his OH had the eggs Royale which they usually have. Luckily we visit often from Whitby and I think this will be a regular thing. Can’t wait to try an evening session…… I have to say I’m glad to have found somewhere in York that does great food at reasonable prices as we have ditched Betty’s for good (overpriced and mediocre) and Robinson’s will be our “go to” place from now on.

Stopped for a quick coffee on the way to do a little shopping in town. Never been in here before but I have heard good things. From walking in the door we were greeted with friendly hellos from the staff. Ordered a coffee and a tea and within minutes we were served. Very relaxed atmosphere and the cakes looked amazing. We will be back. Special little treat on the side of our cups ….

As I was waiting for my wife to have an appointment nearby I popped into the cafe for the first time and was very pleasantly surprised. I only had a cup of tea but was certainly tempted by the beautiful looking cakes and savouries on display. Lovely friendly and efficient service and lovely decor with wooden tables. I will definitely return again at some point in the near future to try the lovely looking food

Duck and chips anyone? I’m quackers about the food at The Taylor Made Kitchen in The Shambles Market, with a highlight being the Peking Duck loaded fries. Please note, this was a special and so may be different when you visit - but I’ve had others and they’re all MAGIC! Skin-on fries topped with confit duck, hoisin sauce, plum sauce, siracha, Japanese mayo, kimchi, coriander and spring onions. I had the small (£7) but it was really substantial, also available as a large portion for £10. Nothing fowl about this dish, it was delicious! I’ve also tried the Pizza Fries, smothered in ooey gooey melted cheese. Too cheesy? No, I’ve made a career out of it! I’ve had their burgers too, the mac and cheese, and the festive poutine at Christmas. Coming to York? It’s worth poutine this one on your list. The Wizard of York (Wizard Walk of York)
