Staff were very friendly, efficient and considerate. Service was fast. Food tasted amazing and was hot.

We were really impressed with everything here. Someone had recommended the White Horse for Sunday lunch and I am so glad they did! We both had the tomato and basil soup which was superb with the freshest bread possible served with butter at the optimum temperature - fabulous. Then we both had the pork with stuffing and crackling which was perfection with the best crackling I have ever had. This was served with wonderful gravy and vegetables which were all cooked to perfection also. The ambience was lovely and the staff/management so friendly and efficient. We live quite locally and this will now be our "go to" place for Sunday lunch. Thank you for a great experience...

We went there for lunch whilst away on business and recommended by a colleague. Food was amazing (we both had the hot beef baguette) which didn’t scrimp on the beef and the little pot of gravy was delicious. This was my 3rd visit to eat and again was very pleased with our food. The Steak and Ale pie dish was a very generous portion. All good value for money.

It isn't hard to understand how this place gets a Certificate of Excellence from Tripadvisor. Really good quality tasty food, served piping hot, (to us a sign of a well run kitchen). Even the portions seem to have increased since our last visit! We thoroughly enjoyed the steak pie and fish and chips and one of us (me) couldn't manage a dessert, having already polished off a starter. All washed down with a well kept Timothy Taylors beer (or two!). All food choices catered for. What a lovely experience. Would thoroughly recommend the White Horse, even if you only come for nibbles or a drink, as you will be welcomed.

Large family birthday party (20 ppl), mostly adults. We had main meals & multiple drinks (great food but slightly more expensive than similar in the area). We'd left a birthday cake with staff for the candles lighting & usual family singalong post meal. At the time for deserts some wanted to buy desserts & some wanted our birthday cake. We were going to buy more drinks too. Staff & service were great throughout, however we were very surprised to hear we were not allowed to eat our birthday cake on the premises. It soured the visit immediately so we paid & left. It's a first in hundreds of similar situations in pubs in the area. Fun loving & large, friendly family won't be eating at the horse again unfortunately. Sign of the times perhaps.

My husband and I popped in on the off chance that we might be able to get a meal. Looking at the menu it seemed reasonably priced. I had the fish pie. My husband opted for the scampi. Both meals came out beautifully presented, hot and looking delicious. Both meals were gorgeous and no conversation was heard whilst we were eating. First class, shame we're a long way from home it would become our local. But Devon's a long commute. Excellent 👍.

We visited this place for Sunday Lunch with family- Somethings they got right such as the veggies and Yorkshire puds but the roast beef wasn’t nice and roast potatoes where deep fried rather than roasted and tasted of chip fat :( I was invited to my Mums birthday meal during the follow week but didn’t go because I didn’t want to pay for food I’d be disappointed with. We turned up early for our early evening reservation, but staff managed to get us seated. Very friendly and helpful staff and, I presume, the owner. The menu was great - not too much choice, but lots of delicious-sounding ideas. We settled in the end on a chicken schnitzel and gammon, egg and chips, forgoing a starter to have room for one of attractive desserts. Can't fault anything during the evening; service was efficient and prompt, food was good, desserts (we both just had ice creams, but they were excellent as well!). This praise is getting repetitive, but my wife felt the Malbec (of which she had a large and a medium glass...) was one of the smoothest she had had for a long time. Very friendly and welcoming establishment; definitely one to return to; we're from some way outside York, but this is handily situated just a couple of minutes from the Poppleton Park and Ride or the almost-adjacent Poppleton station. (Indeed, we were told we could leave the car in their car park, get the train into York, and then come back for an evening meal and to collect the car! Trains every half hour, for the 10-minute or so journey).

Came across by accident. Beautiful weather so ate outside in the lovely beer garden. Excellent food and good drinks. Highly recommended.

Two of us called in for lunch on fabulous sunny day and sat the in cosy beer garden at the back of the pub. Had their tuna Mayo sandwich, bread was so fresh and with a generous filling. Tasty side salad, which had been given some thought and it’s these touches that elevate a meal. However, the chips were the star of the meal, best I’ve had in a long, long time. Waiting staff welcoming, efficient and professional. Also, great to find somewhere where prices seem to be in keeping with their offer and location. Throughly recommend and will be returning.

We have visited the White Horse on several occasions both with the previous owners and more recently wit the present owners Maria & Chris. Tonight we dined with the owners of the nearby guesthouse where we stay. We were seated in the conservatory area which was very pleasant. Two of us ordered the Sea Bass with extra veg to share, one belly pork and the other was the Lamb Keema Curry. Desserts were sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie. Everything was outstanding and washed down with a couple of bottles of Pinot Grigio. Service was first class with a delightful young waitress on hand. Good atmosphere throughout the evening made for an excellent night. Looking forward to visiting again next week.

Found this place courtesy of Google/TripAdvisor search and what a find!!! Lovely staff from booking the table over the phone to the welcome we got at the door! Sunday lunch with my sister and 80+ year old parents. Cappuccinos were lovely. Sunday lunch was beautiful, every aspect. We had beef and chicken, both meats were cooked to perfection. The Yorkshire puddings were delicious, and the vegetables!!! We all love a range of veg and we got that!! Carrots, roasted sweet potato, broccoli and cabbage, all beautifully cooked and good portion! The absolute best in our world was the cauliflower cheese!! It’s one of our favourites but very rarely get it these days. Cannot fault anything about the meal, the staff or the surroundings. Just wished we lived closer so we could go every Sunday!!
