Small this place may be but a really good all rounder that is recommended 👍

Very handsome little place, very comfortable, lovely street view, good coffee, excellent food. Everything appears to be served on waffles...? High quality ingredients, tasteful mix of flavours, extensive menu based around all day breakfast with a small number of well selected lunchy options. I had the pulled pork and it was outstanding.

Lovely place to have a quick coffee

I feel like this cafe does better than this, but unfortunately it wasn’t a good experience for me. The coffee was really badly executed; over extracted espresso and first time round poorly steamed oat milk, after I asked about it, I asked for a remake with normal milk, this scalded my tongue and burnt my fingers on the glass and had that eggy custard smell of overdone milk. Cake was tainted by something else during the baking so wasn’t really edible.

Service was awful in York Railway Station. Platform 11. Ordered 3 coffees yesterday March 13 and paid 12.20 The staff who is doing the coffee is too slow. Missed my train due to this. Went back to her to claim my 3rd paid coffee. The other lady before me had the same issue who ordered coffees but was not able to prepare on time, hence, missing the train which cost us to buy a new train tickets. Hope this will not happen to other customers. It was just an awful experience to go through. *** we never had an issue with the payment, and showing us back the receipt did not happen. There were no argument with the staff re claiming for an unpaid coffee. ***

Bar Hashery in York train station Platform 11. Service was awful. Too slow to serve 1 coffee, waited for more than 10 mins and almost missed the train. What a nightmare.

Had a lovely brunch here this morning, the waffles are a revelation to me. Also would highly recommend the cakes, I would highly recommend the brownie AND coffee and walnut cake which unfortunately I did not get a picture to show as I was too busy stuffing my face 🤣

Good food, friendly and helpful service, reasonably priced

First visit here today, Sunday 10th March. Initially called in for a drink, the cake counter looked amazing. My partner and I went for brunch in the end, which tasted as good as it sounded. We both went for creamy garlic mushrooms and poached eggs served on waffles. Will definitely return, loved it.

After a night in a guest house on Bootham Crescent we Googled " Breakfast near me" and this 4.9* stood out. Came with Booth and Madge for coffees and full English breakfast. Sat by Bootham Bar on the busy ring road. A very pleasant interior over three floors. Toilet up steep stairs. Lunch menu looks good as well.£11 for a breakfast and £2.80 for Americano. The breakfast has a bistro twist...served on a waffle. ( interesting but not a waffle fan..you can ask for toast) Has cherry toms and pea shoots..and baked beans use butter beans. Very good sausage, bacon and egg. Loads of mushrooms.

Excellent coffee, food and service. Would for sure drop in again!

Thank you George for the warm welcome and lovely cuppa :) I chose Bar Hashery on a whim, looking for somewhere to finish my work. I'm pleased I discovered this great York cafe. Welcoming, clean and relaxed atmosphere. Prices very reasonable in my opinion. I only have a drink but the food I could see others tucking into looked tasty. George couldn't have been friendlier, as were the rest of the team I met on leaving. Well worth a visit, I'm looking forward to going back!

What a bizarre suprise, they're in the station 🙂 Great coffee, a welcome change to the genetic Costa. You probably should separate the 2 places though "Bar Hashery Station" etc.

Our go-to cafe when visiting York. Lovely staff, very good coffee and original breakfast menu. The full breakfast was excellent on waffle and the veggie one was great too, with home made beans and hallumi. There is a great selection of cakes too. Nice views of the city wall and bustle of York. Amazing vegan breakfast! All of it was lovely. Quite quick service considering they were busy. Was impressed ☺️ Would recommend for vegan breakfast in the city centre

Called here last Saturday afternoon, had a hot drink and a cake. I had a cappuccino and my husband had a tea. We both had the Yorkshire scone, which was amazing. They offer freshly baked cakes made on site.

Great coffee. Tasty breakfast options. Hollandaise is quite sweet and waffles are lovely but heavy (having a toast option would be great) Staff super friendly

Had one of the best full englishes I've ever had here. George was an amazing server and made sure everything was up together for me. Very polite and kind.

Good quality coffee served by lovely staff. A convenient location just outside of the city walls. Usually always tables inside or upstairs. Takeaway coffee is quick and served with care. The area near the front door and counter is a little cramped if busy - consider removing/moving a table to make more room.

We stopped in for breakfast one morning and we're so glad we did! It's near the city walls and the York art gallery, and is absolutely great! The pastries and drinks were delicious and the cosy atmosphere of the place and the friendly staff made it all the better!

Staff are very friendly which always makes a great cafe! And the view of the Gatehouse out of the window is really lovely.

The vegan all day breakfast was superb, everything tasted good and the waffle was excellent. The coffee was good too, though I wish they wouldn't serve it in a glass as it's too hot to pick up. Coffee should be served in a coffee cup. Highly recommended.

Score: 8.5/10 Popped in here as it was really convenient on our last days’ visit to York. It is a small place so we had to go up a couple flight of quite small stairs to a cosy room on the 3rd floor. I ordered the full English which I asked for bread instead of the waffle ~ but was recommended to give the waffle a try, and if I didn’t like it could have some bread. . It was good advice. The breakfast was very well presented and was really tasty. Wife had the eggs florentine and daughter had eggs Benedict. All on waffles. All beautifully presented and all were very tasty. The waffles were freshly made so there was a short wait. I also had a Spanish latte which was latte with condensed milk. I grew up with a love of condensed milk so loved this coffee. Service was nice and welcoming. I asked for ketchup twice but never got it, so made do with the brown sauce which the breakfast was served with. I’m from south of the boarder so brown sauce is never a first choice, but it worked well with the breakfast in this instance. So overall, aside from the stairs and the ketchup, recommended for a lovely breakfast with the waffle twist.

We were delighted to have found this little cafe, we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts (breakfast roll - , sausage, egg, bacon on toasted brioche bun), and Sun ripened juice and tea, on the second morning I had the same but my partner decided to try the Vegetarian full breakfast, it sure was a full breakfast! Lovely staff and great service!

I stopped by because of the food trail during the festival. I was delighted, the savory waffle was great and the brownie was one of the best I have ever had. Had a coffee, and it was also delicious. The service is amazing, the menu is very original, and all the cakes on display looked to die for. I will definitely be back, this place is such a gem.

My husband and I visited York this week and found this place on our 2nd day. We ended up visiting 3 Time's as we were so impressed. We had breakfast, the homemade granola and yoghurt were delicious! My husband had a ull breakfast and an omelete another day. The service and food were really lovely and great value for money! The ginger and apple shot also set the day up! Will definitely return when in York again, thankyou 😊

The waffles are so good! There are a couple vegan options and both hit the spot. Great food, tasty coffee and lovely staff - can't recommend it enough.

Absolutely perfect cafe - George is so friendly and welcoming - the team serves really great fresh and tasty food. Great decor and ideal location on Bootham Bar for all York visitors or residents. Chai tea and cakes to die for. Even the fussiest of customers won’t fail to be delighted!

Very poor value one sausage sandwich and one breakfast plus two hot drinks just over £20.00 save your money and go somewhere else.

went for breakfast this morning before work and everyone was lovely especially George, he held some banana bread for me so I could come and buy it on my break as it wasnt ready while i was there! George slays he's my new favourite person on the planet

I would like to refer to Janet's post and the owners response. Everything he has responded with is untrue, we were there for breakfast. NO alcohol was consumed by our party of 5 ladies. We were seated upstairs along with others that came in after us. There was a table of 3 sat behind us that also asked where their order was and after half an hour they left. It took us 1 hour 15 minutes and twice of asking when our breakfast would arrive to see sense and leave. We courteously paid for our coffees. He offered no apology, just smirked. Janet cannot post again for a month on this matter but I have for her. I would not recommend this establishment at all. I believe another member of our party has reported his response to Trip advisor directly.

We were really pleased to stumble across this lovely little cafe. Although very busy, with just one member of staff working, the server took the time to welcome us and cleared a table for us immediately. Drinks were brought over really quickly - a perfect flat while, and a lovely coconut iced latte. We were advised that as the kitchen was very busy there may be a slight delay in getting hot food out to us, which I would always rather know about, but we were in no rush. In the event the food arrived really promptly. The breakfast roll and the french toast were delicious. The cake counter looked great as well but we were too full. Prices seemed very competitive compared with similar places nearby. If we lived locally we'd visit often!

Appalling!! After waiting upstairs for 1 hour and 15 minutes and asking twice where our food was we left. Tables that were in after us were served before us. We paid for drinks on our exit to which the owner smirked and said it was only a small kitchen. What an absolute joke - never again!

Really love this cafe! The staff are super friendly and kind. The coffee is great and the menu has loads of delicious options, from porridge to full breakfasts - including veggie and vegan breakfasts. My poached eggs were perfectly cooked and great portion sizes. Also in a great location near the art gallery, Kings Manor, the Minster, and the city walls. Can'twait to come back soon!

This cafe served great banana cake, fresh from the oven. It was very moist, and the tea was spot on. The owner was very friendly, and made us feel welcome. l will definitely go back.

The menu was creative and enticing and the food did not disappoint. I’m a York local and I can honestly say this is in my top 3 spots for brunch now. An imaginative twist on a classic English breakfast, the quality of the ingredients stood out and the homemade baked beans stole the show. Lots of vegan options. I can’t wait to go back and try the cakes. And the crockery was delightful too

Came on a Sunday lunch time, on a lovely warm day. When I first arrived there was someone in front of me so took a quick sec to get seated, but the staff were very nice and apologised :) Although it wasn't a problem anyway!...

Such a great find! It’s right near a staircase for the city wall so good location next to the minster. Staff were so friendly and lovely. As we ate we heard multiple people say they were coming back tomorrow which shows just how lovely this place is. We had the eggs Benedict and eggs royale both served on waffles which was a lovely contrast and great portion size. The fresh juices were so refreshing too.

Had breakfast today. The waiter George was very courteous and professional. I ordered the full meal breakfast and OJ. George pressed 4 fresh oranges and the meal was presented and tasted like any 5 star restaurant. Great dining experience. Thanks to George and the chef 👍

Visited this place with family and even though it was nearly the closing time, we were greeted with smiles. Both George and Praful were amizing hosts. We had to fight over the last piece of apple&almond cake with another visitors but friendship won and we...

Great service and food! Despite there only bring one waiter he was able to serve us promptly, and the food was delicious as it is made from scratch in the cafe. Highly recommended.

Very tasty food. Extremely friendly service. Some of the seating is 2 floors up, some is at ground level. Food is prepared fresh so may take a little while at busy times but is worth it as every mouthful tastes fresh and homemade.

Excellent food (home made) and excellent value. About £11 per person for a good lunch. Eggs Florentine v good, also barbecue pulled pork. Owner was upfront saying our group of 6 would have to wait 20 mins for the order to arrive. In fact it was slightly less. Very friendly, no fuss. Lovely experience.

My first visit. I had a piece of banana cake with my coffee and it was the best banana cake I have ever eaten. I understand the cakes are all baked on site and the selection looked delightful. The proprietor was very pleasant and informative about the menu. Highly recommended! .

It was adequate but disappointing due to length of wait for food. At least 45 minutes. I had eaten my meal before my partners had even come out. I feel they were perhaps under staffed. A table that had ordered well after us meals came out before us.

Sight of city walls, amazing drinks, great food, generous portions, and reasonable prices. All of it original recipes of the owners or staff well at least the twist is. Food cooked to order juices, smoothies and coffee prepared while you wait. Amazing place complimented with amazing service and great food.

This place is my favourite lunch spot in York !! The food and coffee is excellent it is really made with care and you can taste that, it comes really quickly too! The staff are so wonderful, just so friendly and lovely every time I go in and always remember me even though they must get lots of customers! Delicious breakfast, great coffee and wonderful service. The Georgy juice is a delight, as is it’s namesake! A real vibrant, fresh juice that you feels does you good, and the man himself was so welcoming. Would recommend to anyone in York, we came two days...
