Fabulous place to go for breakfast, very friendly staff, luckily we were early as very popular place to eat being made obvious by a queue forming outside and I could see why as we really enjoyed our breakie. We chose it as it was very close to viking centre and we were lucky we did as it was a good start to the day, we were greeted and served by a very friendly staff member Soph, thank you

Normally my go to for brunch when in York. Unfortunately food took 45 mins from placing order to arrive. For an Eggs Royale and a full breakfast. Nothing offered to make up for it! Very disappointing. Will consider elsewhere now. Constant queues outside and 1 toilet - cute at first but just annoying now? Think owner needs to upgrade to bigger premises.

Visited on a Saturday and surprisingly got seated immediately. At points the queue became rather long. Attempted to use the QR table code to order but was very frustrating so my husband gave up and went to the till. Food arrived promptly and was very enjoyable.

My wife and I visited for Brunch on 27/07/2024 and sampled the following - Turkish Eggs and Eggs Benedict with Bacon. All of these were faultless and tasted superb. The staff were all very welcoming and knowledgeable when we asked about the menu. A great experience and would certainly return next time we’re visiting York.

Amazing service and fantastic customer service. The food is exceptional! I was blown away the way I was treated I have been seriously ill recently and hadn’t gone in for a couple of weeks I ordered breakfast and 5 min later a bag was delivered to the table with a message written on and a chocolate brownie inside! When I got outside I had a tear ! Fighting cancer is not easy and to receive the kind gift and message meant a lot !

Awesome little brunch spot; good food - good vibes & delicious food!! The coffee is really good (wide range of alternative milks), and food is absolutely gorgeous. If you go then you have to try their banana bread, it’s amazing!! The staff are always really friendly & accommodating. I’ve been on several occasions - a few times as part of a run club they host, once with my partner & once to get a take away coffee & banana bread with my dog. Each time the service & food has been spot on. Whilst dogs aren’t allowed in (which I knew before visiting), they accommodated by taking my order from the door & one of the lovely members of staff very kindly waited outside with my dog whilst I popped to the toilet. Cannot recommend enough 😊

I stumbled across Rise in October after being recommended their brunch menu by a friend. After my first visit, I was hooked (the food is to die for and the iced oat lattes are the best) and I soon found out that they held a run club on a Saturday morning, as someone who moved to York and didn't have many friends in the area I decided to take myself along one Saturday morning. The staff at Rise are the best, the community they have created both in their York branch and Preston branch is few and far between. Having just relocated to Perth, I am struggling to find somewhere with the same welcoming environment and the menu to match! The run club are usually back before Rise opens and we do our best to keep ourselves to one area within the cafe and if we are not eating/ drinking we always leave to ensure that customers can have a table. Miss you RISE! See you in Summer!

Having previously been on our last trip to York and had a lovely breakfast, on our return we made our way to Rise a little early and patiently stood at the "wait here" sign waiting Rise to open! After a while a group of around 40 joggers ran up and stopped outside and massed near the front! We plus another couple were clearly waiting well before they arrived (Rise at this pont still wasn't actually open) when the joggers decided to walk straight into Rise and ignore the people waiting! You cannot reserve tables at Rise and its a first come first served basis!.... clearly this is not the case! We realised we would now have to wait for 30-40 people to order before we would get our breakfast!.... we walked away and went for Breakfast at Spring espresso for a lovely breakfast! VERY poor management VERY annoying VERY unprofessional!

So disappointing, had previously been and had an amazing experience so was excited to go back. Appreciate you can’t book at rise so patiently waited outside for them to open. A large group of runners then turned up and were ushered in by staff. Who at no point spoke to us who were queuing by the wait her to be seated. All the large group seated and still no acknowledgment from staff on site. In fact we were totally ignored. While I understand a business may favour a large group. The be ignored totally by staff was very unprofessional. Such a shame.

We were searching for a good brunch place and were not disappointed with Rise. Amazing food and friendly and welcoming service.

Me and my dad visited for breakfast- we ordered the French toast (tiramisu), and a smoothie bowl. Food was really high quality and fresh. Excellent service and the cafe had a lovely atmosphere. Would recommend + return

Came to York for the weekend and had already scouted this place for breakfast. We got there nice and early on a Sunday morning and it was quite busy. When we left there were over 20 people outside waiting for tables, and it was raining. This tells you everything you need to know. The service was excellent. You can see them making your food. They put lots of effort and attention into making each dish. The coffee was excellent. The fruit smoothie was excellent. The food was excellent. You definitely get what you pay for. We will be returning the next time we are in York.

Excellent food, gluten free options (prepared in a kitchen that handles gluten, but they do take every effort to ensure no cross contamination). Coffee was great. We didn’t try these, but the smoothies looked delicious. We absolutely enjoyed our breakfast, friendly service. You may have to wait to be seated at peak times, worth the wait!

Tip top place with warm, welcoming service, excellent coffee and strong brunch menu (including superb sautéed mushrooms as a side and creative ras el hanout standout). Always welcome you back and settle you in recognising you and never hurried to leave! Great place to work and eat.

Had the best time at Rise! Absolutely delicious brunch and coffees, in a lovely and bright space. The breakfast options had a great mix of options, including sweet and savoury. The tiramisu french toast is one of the best things I’ve ever tasted in my life. Definitely for a sweet tooth but so creative, crisp and flavoursome. We visited midday in the week to avoid the queues (it looked very busy on the Sunday!) and were seated in minutes. Would 100% return and recommend. Thank you for a lovely brunch date!

My partner & I visited Rise for Brunch and it was amazing! I'm Gluten Free & Vegetarian, so it's sometimes hard to find something to eat, but Rise had their own GF menu with plenty of veggie options! Morgan took me through the menu and gave me a few recommendations which was really kind of her! I went with the avocado on toast with halloumi & my partner had the Turkish eggs which he really enjoyed! We'll definitely be coming back :)

The food was really tasty, big portion and reasonable price. We ordered eggs benedict with bacon and the all rise breakfast, an espresso and pistachio latte with oat milk. Some of the speciality coffees are pricier and you have to pay extra for non-dairy milk. I tried to come here before on the weekend and there was a very long queue but we walked straight in on a Friday morning.

An amazing time visiting rise. Get the hot choccy woccy, it was a taste sensation In my mouth. Had a young lady named Morgan served us, she was amazing and a joy to speak to and look at. Will definitely be coming back mainly just to taste the hot choccy Wokky and having that young lady to look at and serve us again .

Lovely staff and atmosphere. Food is great. Korean mushrooms and roast potatoes super tasty. The coffee is a good bean.

Must admit I had high expectations. Not the best of starts, queuing outside in the cold & rain, with no cover, waiting for a table. You are shown to a table & given a paper menu. Then you go to the counter to order & pay. It was really, really cold & draughty. Food was also not very warm when it arrived. Not sure about the writing on the straws.....Never saw a smile from any of the staff, all really miserable looking. Which is off putting.

Wonderful brunch with friendly service too. Good clean facilities. The coffee was damn fine too. Highly recommend visiting it

Really excellent food. Massive sandwiches at a decent price. Kids liked it too - would be nice to see a kids menu in future but we ordered the cheese toasties and split it between the kids - they loved it and it was plenty big enough. Would definitely come back!

What a fab find. Can not fault this place. It is so good there is always a que of people waiting to get in. Even when it’s raining !! The weather today was rather wet and there was a short que … the staff brought out small cups of hot chocolate for us while we waited. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was really delicious. If I’m ever back in York I’ll be there que or no que for my breakfast.

Food was delicious but I don’t really know if it’s worth the wait in the queue (or the price), me and my partner always like to try new brunch places, this was the most rated, the service is not the quickest, we waited a long time for the food, but the drinks came really quickly. Everything we asked for was really good, and high quality, but I don’t think it’s worth the wait and it’s quite pricey for what it is. The place is quite small, and you literally eat on top of everybody else.

Service is great, food is fantastic, my wife wants to go back to York every weekend just for this place. Come and open one in Durham.

The cafe was beautifully decorated, staff were very friendly and the food and delicious ❤️ We had to queue to get in, but we waited less than 10 minutes. I recommend the pistachio coffee!

In all the years I've visited York I didn't know this hidden gem was here - gorgeous and cute! We were seated at the shelf area as the main tables were all in use, but it was lovely. Greeted warmly and had the offers explained to us a long with how to order. I had the breakfast roll which was delicious - a sausage patty with scrambled egg and chilli jam. The coffee was hot, although not a fan of coffee served in a glass. However, we loved it and will definitely return. I can see why people queue outside to get in. Congratulations on running a well established and smooth running establishment 👏

Very busy cafe with queues out the door. The turn around was organised and we waited no more than 10 minutes to be seated. Worth waiting longer for. Food was fantastic, generous portions and full of flavour. Everything was fabulous from the service to the ascetics of the restaurant. Will definitely be returning.

Food absolutely delicious and staff really friendly. Avocado and poached eggs on sourdough toast was the best I have tasted. Kept looking at one of the waiters thinking we knew him from somewhere, didn’t realise until we got back that it was Grant from first dates. He was super friendly and looked after us really well, always smiling too!! We will definitely return to Rise and would recommend their breakfast to anyone. Thank you!!

Excellent from the start. Very friendly welcome and smiley, helpful service. The food was served promptly and was SOOOO good! We had the breakfast roll, eggs Benedict and potatoes on the side. We asked for crispy bacon and that’s what we got. We were really impressed, would definitely recommend this place and will definitely be back next time we’re in York. Thank you.

Service was speedy and kind , food was freshly cooked to order , good barista latte art skills. The prices reflect on the portion size you get what you pay for, Only down side was that the “freshly squeezed orange juice” didn’t give pure vibes, felt like we was drinking Robinsons dilute juice , had no bits or cloudiness to it… Not too sure how customers get tables on a weekend with students sat on laptops hogging tables. Over all would return back one day but just stick to the coffee as a drink

Out of this world!! The potato hash, tiramisu French toast and the smoothies are to die for!!! Wish there was one in nottingham but I would 100% drive to York just to have their potato hash in the morning😩🩷

Great choice on the menu and the food was delicious. My main feedback is the ordering system. Our waiter said use the online system and to be fair probably said or go to the counter to order, we didn’t hear this. I am not a Dinosaur by any means but using the online system was confusing, the choice of eating in wasn’t a clear choice. We almost walked out but persevered, the Waiter walked past so we asked for help and he said you can go to the till, we had probably been trying to order for 15 mins. As a one time Visitor to York, I don’t want to add my credit card details for a Cafe, I have no idea why they are using this system post COVID, there were plenty of staff, use them!

I cannot rate this place highly enough, it was so good that we went from brunch two days running. Everything we ordered was magnificent, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented on the plate and, of course, utterly delicious. The staff were all enthusiastic and helpful, doing everything they could to make your visit enjoyable. The place is always busy and you may have to wait outside a short while for a table, but be patient because it really is worth waiting.

Rise is my absolute favourite place for brunch in York, i’ve probably been here a few too many times! Grant is always friendly and accommodating, has great banter and it’s quite embarrassing that it’s got to the point where he recognises me when I come in with friends for my ‘hangover cure’. Couldn’t recommend enough :)

After being impressed with the menu ( we love an eggs benny) we walked in and were greeted by a man we now know as Grant. He was very polite, relaxed and easy to have a chat and banter with. We spoke about our reasons for being here and it was our honeymoon as we got married 3 days prior. Now, he must of heard us talking about the tiramasu fremch toast as when we recieved our food we had a plate of just that on the house for our honeymoon. The lady (sorry i dont know your name) who served us was happy, quick and so polite too. A running theme in this place. The chef wasnt your standard chef..he was smiling! And with the food he produced you can see why hes happy, there is passion in his cooking. We went there again the next morning and kinda wished that this place and exact team were in north wales.. We would spend every morning here for the food, company and straws...i was a smoothie sl*thaha Thank you all for this experiemce, it made our honeymoon knowing we had the best way to start the day! My go to for brunch in York. The food is amazing and always have nice options for vegans like myself. Staff can’t do enough for you and are always so friendly and welcoming. If you like an aesthetic scene for your coffee or brunch this is a must visit whether you’re from York or here as a tourist. Shoutout to Grant for accommodating for me and my broken foot :)

Wonderful atmosphere. Super friendly staff. Great ordering system (on your phone). The smoothies and homemade strawberry lemonade were to die for, and the 2 coffees were of fantastic quality. The food....oh my god...so beautiful, fresh, tasty and filling! Came with my head chef husband who can be hard yo please (very high food standards), and he can't wait to come back next time we are in York. An absolute must if you are visiting and well worth the wait of queuing up outside to get in!

We 100% recommended this place!! All staff were very friendly, food was amazing we even came back the next day. We said we were on our honeymoon and they gave us a little treat, which they really didn't have too but my god it was delicious 😊 wanted to say a big thank you to Grant who made it a bit more special. We just happened upon Rise! and instantly knew it was the spot for us. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. And the menu was fantastic...new things and familiar items aplenty!! I had eggs benedict with halloumi and yummed through every mouthful!! So delicious. We were in no rush to leave and never felt we had to vacate our seats. The chap who served us (Grant) was very engaging and told us that Rise! is relatively new on the scene in York...long may it continue...it will be a reason for us to return to York in the future!!!

I’ve come here so many times now I’ve lost count, the perfect place for brunch in york. The staff are all great and even one of the waiters from channel 4’s first dates works there. Always stop in for a coffee if I’m in town...

Wonderful friendly staff and excellent food too. Grant, Rose and Morgan all looked after us so well. Don’t be put off if there is a queue outside because it goes down really quickly and is definitely worth the wait.
