Can't quite believe what I've eaten - had to leave a review because this had to be one of the best made steak & ale pies we've ever had. Absolutely crammed with steak, to the point where I'm surprised they manage to fit the pastry over it! The steak melted in the mouth and heated brilliantly in the oven for dinner. The pastry was also super light. Hats off to them for not scrimping in this day and age. Staff were lovely and punctual and prices in no way inflated simply due to being in a tourist hot spot. Excellent value for money. The pork pie was also filled with incredibly high quality meat. A testament to the shambles, one of Britain's most historic streets that was once lined with butchers, now they're the only merchant left that relates to that history and they're paying one heck of a tribute 👏

As a York resident we often get a medium pork pie here, as they are the best "home made style" pork pies in the area, but they have always been priced a bit high. On a recent visit was alarmed to find that the £5 medium pork pie is now priced at £6 - a 20% increase for 2024. The pies are always great, with a nice crunchy pastry, are well filled with large chunks of moist meat - however the latest one we had at £6 was dark, overcooked and had some lumps of gristle in. Now at £6 for the medium size they have priced themselves out of our market, and we will not be going back there so often now. Great pitty - good product but too high priced - a lost customer !

We were told about this place ahead of our visit to York and it did not disappoint! Sausage rolls really tasty and just what we wanted. Took some traditional pork pies that smelled delicious and when we got home tasted even better, crust with just the right amount of crunch with a very tasty filling!

Having worked in a butchers shop that had an adjoined bakers, and having gone to Cornwall many times, I was amazed by the 'Traditional' pasty here. The gravy was so thick and tasty, and the pastry was spot on. Best pasty I've ever had & the pork pie was up there too - definitely coming back whenever I'm in York

Just outstanding, had numerous pies from here, but what stood out for me was the York egg, stood waiting to get into the ghost shop, eating one of these and a cider from next door, life couldn't get any better, plus it was the hottest day on record, just perfect.

We have always liked the chilli pork pies here & have always made a point to visit when we are in York. Not sure whether it's still the same owners/ shop as the name has the changed. We got the 3 chilli pork pies left (£2.20 each) & had them immediately! The filling of the pie was tasty with the right level of spice but the pastry was a tad too hard! Overall, glad we had them again though not sure they were as good as previous visits.

The best pork pie I've ever had by an absolute mile. The chicken and steak ones were different league too. Had the beef and marmalade the other day, outstanding 👏👏👏

Needs a Michelin Star! We bought a couple of pasties and a fat toulouse sausage roll. WOW! The pasties were even better than those from St Ives, beautiful pastry, packed with flavour - can't praise them enough! And the sausage roll was totally intense!!! We went back for seconds, but had sold out, so bought a couple of the ordinary sausage rolls, and steak pies which we had back in the hotel - the pies in particular were also breath taking in their delicious steak packed wholesomeness - not a pick of grizzle, and so full of tender meat, there was hardly any room for the gravy. It would be worth going back to York, just for the grub from this little shop!

The worst pork pie I’ve ever had…As salty as a cheese but very bad smell for the pork meat. Really horrible experience and we threw the pies away after our second bites :( Medium pork pie £5 Apple and pork pie £2.2

Truly exceptional pies. We shared the wild boar (very rich), beef and onion, pulled pork and apple, and char siu pork (my favourite). The shortcrust pastry is amazing. We got a little bit of cheese from the deli around the corner to pair with them which I can also highly recommend

Great pies. We especially liked the wild boar and char siu ones. However we were charged 4 pounds too much..we got our money back but I find this unacceptable.

Had a sausage roll and traditional pasty (my firsts ever!) and they were excellent, fresh, piping hot. Great value. Will definitely return again!

OMG! The stuff this little shop sells is so good. I bought pork pies, pasties and savoury duck. Honestly it was fantastic. We journeyed back home to Scotland and ate the pies on the way home. The pasties were lunch the next day and the ducks were for tea the mext night. Everything was 10/10. So much so I can't wait to go back

Happened upon this while waiting for the ghost merchants. We had the chorizo sausage roll and the shambles mustard & sage sausage roll. Absolutely stunning! So well seasoned and spiced, the amount of meat was great. 100% recommend and we ate them so quickly we didn't get a picture of them!

Stopped here along the shambles for a quick snack. Was going to get a pork pie but then saw a monstrous creation called a York egg. Boiled egg,wrapped in delicious sausage near, then wrapped in bacon! A heavenly combo! And honestly the best food item I've ever eaten. Will deffo be back to get more here

The York egg is a must try along with the pork pie and the sausage rolls are a great option. Super friendly staff!

You know when a place is good when a queue is outside the shop. The pork pies are the best I've tasted and the steak pies are great.

While queuing for the Ghost store opposite, we bumped into this shop. The food tastes delicious and not so expensive. It would be perfect If they can put the food a paper cup for customer who wants to try immediately instead of wrapping the food in the plastic bag.

Any time in town I always call here the food is always first class.I normally get at least a sausage roll a traditional pasty and a pork pie and sometimes all 3

I was there yesterday and wanted to finally try some authentic pies. The guy there was very polite nice and helpful. He gave me some options since i had no idea of which i would want. He gave me recommendations and I bought two. They were amazing! Very yummy indeed. Strong meat and spices flavor. I highly recommend and I hope I’ll be back one day

Delicious pies and the best Parkin I've ever tasted!

Very nice cold pies! We got the ploughmans pie, black pudding pork and a vegetarian mushroom stroganoff pie. They were very good, and the portions were perfect. There’s no place to sit inside, but it’s a perfect bite to grab on the go!

I last praised this business in 2020 as having the best pork pies and sausage rolls I'd ever tasted and, even though a wider range is now offered, these basic essentials are still wonderful. On top of that the Manager/owner and the staff are delightful and do not appear fazed by the endless tourists queueing opposite their shop in the Shambles for what appear to be wax models!

I was at Drakes and I had a steak pie and I absolutely loved it I asked them who is your pie supplier and they told me they get them from here. It was a challenge finding them in stock as they go quicky. (Doesn't surprise me as they are lovely) but today I got lucky and got 2 of them. Just had one now and wow exactly like I have it at drakes. Absolutely love this best pie shop around. 5 star reviews are VERY rare and hard to get from me!

Everytime we come to York we HAVE to get several pork pies from this shop! I have never tasted pork pies like them from anywhere. LOVE them!

We were hungry after some shopping so bought some scotch mince pie and Toulouse sausage roll. The pie crust/skin was just the right consistency, the meat very flavourful. Go and grab one!

I am lost for words, the filling so hot and tasty with all those fresh veggies, the shortcrust pastry that adds a little sweetness and leaves you filling full and contented. How they sell these so cheaply, I do not know.

Amazing York eggs we came twice in our 3 days trip because it was so excellent. Also the staff offered to cut it in half as we were two eating the same egg. I recommand the place.

Quite possibly the greatest food I ate the entire trip throughout the U.K. I'm saddened by the fact that I can't eat it again anytime soon, since I live in the U.S. The employees gave me two excellent recommendations, the traditional pork pie, as well as a pork and apple pie, and I can't decide which one I loved more. Savory flavors, flaky crusts, and delicious hot or cold. Just incredible. Be sure to visit early as they often sell out by the afternoon. I will be returning one day for more of these incredible local pies.

The chilli pork pay is outrageously good, I stopped halfway through my first one to grab more before they closed. Char Sui and pork belly great too. Thanks again for a life changing pie!

Major let down, hard to mess up but they serve the worst pie we have ever had. The sausage roll was served cold. And the piece crust is flat and greasy, not flaky. And get this, they charge you for a fork ! What restaurant in the world charges you for utensils to eat the food you just paid for ?? Avoid

One word. Boar. The Boar 🐗 pie is where it was at! One of tastiest first byte ever! Bought at one of the quaintest streets in medieval England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. Eaten at King’s Square in lovely York 🇬🇧 to seal the deal. Transporting one to another time!

I had a lovely chat about "eel-pie" which they did not have but I had an amazing all-meat minced pie...and it looked all like in a fairy tale and tasted exquisit

I never post reviews but honestly this place has my heart (and my wallet lol). Its not lightly I say that they have the best sausage rolls, pasties and pies that I've ever tasted, and the prices are unbeatable! Every single member of staff I've seen has been amazingly friendly and happy (and with the amount of times I've visited I must've seen them all by now lol), and even when theres a small queue they work through it quickly and efficiently. Would 100% recommend, a must visit for any tourist or local!

We purchased a couple of pies here, but only 1 out of 2 were good. We purchased the wild bore pie and the macaroni & cheese pie. The macaroni & cheese was delicious, but the wild bore was very salty and extremely greasy, and after one bite we threw it away. I’d say give it a try and hopefully you’ll have better luck than us.

We left York yesterday but before we left we purchased a large pork pie from yourselves. I am distraught; as a lover of pork pies, and I have sampled many; yours in my humble opinion is the best and most tasty pork pie I can recall eating. Distraught that I only purchased one and distraught that I live so far away. Thank you; the pleasure was literally all mine.

Great range of very traditional pies, perfect to munch on while journeying through the York Shambles.

After seeing a YouTube for this place we made a bee-line for the pie shop. There was a bit of a queue but the service was quick and the short wait allowed us to decide on the pies. We ordered a ploughman's with cheese on the top, a Mac & cheese and BBQ pulled pork. They were all really tasty and not too expensive. My son said it was the best pie he'd ever had - praise indeed 👍

As my expanding waistline can attest, I am a fan of pies and am happy to report that these savoury treats do not disappoint. Amazing quality, great taste and very reasonably priced given just how tasty their offerings are! Their variation of the scotch egg in particular is a real treat, exchanging bland breadcrumbs (which generally go everywhere) for slices of bacon (which hold the York Egg together well). Definitely worth a visit.

Visited yesterday, 3/8/22, had two of the traditional pork pies. They were absolutely fantastic, so tasty and perfectly moist. Best I've ever had. Staff were friendly and accommodating too. Word of advice get there early to avoid dissapointment.

Probably would have been nice if they hadn't given me the wrong pie. I ordered a char sui pie but they gave me a chilli pie, which I wasnt able to eat due to being allergic to chillies. When I gave them the pie back and pointed out they had given me to wrong one they didn't even apologize for the mistake.

They say a decent pastie should be made with little chunks of beef and not mince beef but these pasties are excellent easily among best ive ever tasted. Short crust pastry just right and and absolutely cramped with filling . And very good value to! Toulose sausage rolls also very good.

The best and tastiest pasties I've ever had. Great flavour, high meat content but with enough veg to add texture and keep moisture. Ruined all other parties for me! At £2 a pastie it's a brilliant warm lunch.

We really enjoyed the sausage roll, and my partner enjoyed his steak and ale pie, but i thought the mac n cheese pie was quite dry and flavourless. I’d definitely order the sausage roll again!

It's a treat finding this place in Shambles, York City. Their pies window display looked amazing and smelt great that it stopped me on my track! I had the chilli pie and took some black pudding pie back to our hotel. They were delish! Be warned, the chilli pie is spicy hot (and being Thai, I can eat HOT).

Thought the pies looked when we were window shopping in the shambles so decided to buy a ploughman’s pork pie for later. Have to say that pastry, pork filling, pickle and cheese topping was certainly £2.50 well spent.

The Tolouse sausage roll was absolutely fantastic. The pork pies are amazing, as are the sausages (we got Tolouse and Shambles- both delicious!) The ox cheek pie was really good and so was the Mac and cheese pie. Lovely, friendly staff too.

Got a “York egg” a version of a scotch egg. Was expecting great things. I wasn’t expecting it to be warm, but that in itself wasn’t really a problem except for the fact it meant the egg in the middle was so over cooked it made it inedible - shame. Big shame.

OMG The best pork pies ever! I am a pork pie connoisseur, been everywhere tasting pork pies, most are average to poor but these are the very best and definitely 5star. Highly recommended. Buy more than one you will not regret it.

The place to go for sausages, pies or a pasty. The shambles sausages are fantastic and I think I may be addicted to the pasties! The service is excellent too!

Stumbled across this gem this morning. Down the tourist Mecca of The Shambles and the window display tempted me into a couple of purchases. The hog roast pastry (sausage in pastry) was poor. Didn’t seem fresh, cold and maybe been out of the oven longer than I’d like. Luckily the York egg I had was a real treat (egg wrapped in stuffing and bacon). Worth taking the trip for, was straight from the oven, succulent and tasty.

Absolutely beautiful pork pies. Warm when I bought them and the taste and texture was heaven. The chilli pork pie certainly packs some punch but it still has the taste to go with it... yum yum. Well worth a visit and spending a few pounds. 10 out of 10 in my opinion

This has got to be the best pies I have ever eaten,cannot fault them. I highly recommend a visit if are in the shambles.

Had a day trip to York on the train with my wife and during our gentle bimble around york came across this little treasure of a shop. Port and Black Pudding Pie was crying out to me and then I spotted the black pudding sausages. Lets just say I will be going back for more on my next trip. The pork and black pudding pie was just right, not tough or fatty the blend was perfect and the pastry tremendous.

Vegan friendly, extrenely good value for money pie shop. They made a vegan pie for me when i popped over. And it only cost £1.80 (almost everywhere else charges £3.50 for pies) It was delicious (cauliflower, potatoes and garlic).

Me and my wife have just had two traditional pasties and a duck savory scotch egg absolutely gorgeous well worth the money and fantastic food.

Wonderful pies! We loved it so much, we came back to have an extra look for a potential "refill", and realise they sold out most of their pies! Very good quality for the price although it's take away only...

Such a gem of a shop. The pies are delicious and well worth a visit if your walking past. The owner was so friendly and made up feel very welcome. I would certainly recommend to anyone!

Time and time again the pies from here leave me floored! The BEST pies you will find for miles around!

We bought a couple of “York Eggs” for our journey home and were blown away at the size of them - bigger than they looked in the window! It’s a hard boiled egg in sausage meat and streaky bacon. Quite salty and the egg had become a bit rubbery from maybe being cooked too long but it was delicious all the same and a really fair price too!

Amazing pies - but please - sort your opening hours out on Google, frustrating to turn up and find you shut! Cheers! :-)
