The Cut & Craft in York

Visited York the other weekend and thought the cut and craft looked like a nice place to eat. It was absolutely stunning inside. I ordered a strawberry Mojito which was stunning and a chicken burger with chips which i ate every bit. It was quite expensive but looking around at the atmosphere you could see why. 🥰

The grilled goat cheese and beet root starter was delicious. The fish and chips were very tasty with a light batter. Great service and atmosphere in the garden area!

The best of everything. The calamari starter was brilliant. The best sirloin steak I’ve ever had. The Parmesan fries were so crispy and flavourful as were the onion rings and the hispy cabbage I could have eaten a bucket load. The service was also fantastic. I will definitely we coming back again 👍👍👍

Great service from arrival to departure. The food and atmosphere was outstanding. Every detail was 'just right' from the table setting to the waiter to the music to the time it took food to arrive. Cannot wait to return!

Had a wonderful time this evening, we were welcomed by the hostess and shown to our spacious table. We were brought a second drinks menu and had a good length of time to ponder. Our waiter Ronny had good knowledge or the menu as was well attentive. We had a brilliant time with delicious food!

Denied access of a working assistant dog. The hostess stated “guide dogs only” which is a clear violation of the equality act 2010 which grants ALL assistant dog the same level of access as guide dogs

Once again, a truly amazing visit, without exception, every visit delivers us with a perfect steak.... And my husband is very picky! Each course is designed and delivered with art and tastes delicious. The staff are sorry professional but friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is romantic and fun. Yes, it's not the cheapest steak restaurant in town, but by far the best and NEVER lets us down. Love love love it here.

Food was absolutely beautiful couldn’t fault it at all. We was asked did we want dessert we didn’t want any was to full so they asked did want another instead which we then ordered. Drinks came we was sat talking away and they came over and asked for the table back and moved us to a cramped area next to the front door which was real drafty why ask us did we want another drink if they needed the table back. Totally spoilt the experience for us after that so won’t be in a rush back after that so disappointing. To actually put the surcharge on that made it even worse because I would certainly not have given a tip after that

This is a high end steakhouse in York with the prices to match, but well worth it. We came here as a group of friends and was very happy with the service given here. A couple of us shared the Sunday roast platter which is definitely a must try if you visiting on Sunday. Also one of the few places I know that did a very (rich) Blaked Alaska!

The Cut and Craft is truly exceptional. Visited with my partner for my birthday meal out and after looking at reviews for restaurants in the city centre, decided on here. The service was amazing, Jamal made us feel completely at ease and well looked after. The food is out of this world, one of the best meals we’ve had out in a long time. I had the Rib Eye and my partner had the herb stuffed chicken, both were perfect. Would highly recommend and can’t wait to visit again.

We came here for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. It was our first visit and it was amazing! The food was so yummy, lovely presentation and definitely worth the money. The best dauphinoise potatoes we have ever had! I’m gluten free, and they were so accommodating and helpful! And I felt safe to eat which is always nice :)

We had a lovely experience at The Cut & Craft York before heading to see North By Northwest at the nearby York Theatre Royal. Fortunately, we had booked a few weeks in advance, definitely a smart move, as the restaurant was buzzing with energy, every table taken and a queue forming at the door. The food was delicious, fresh, flavourful, and served in generous portions. The staff were warm, friendly, and attentive. While the overall service was very good, there was a minor hiccup: when our mains arrived, we were asked if we’d like any sauces on the side. One was brought promptly, but the other never arrived despite asking twice. The décor is stylish and inviting, and the background music was kept at a pleasant volume. However, the restaurant’s circular layout seems to amplify sound, which made conversation across the table a bit challenging at times. Despite these small issues, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would happily recommend The Cut & Craft.

We have been in Leeds and wanted to replicate the experience - it was good, actually quite good, just not as good as Leeds - still, a great place to have a great steak with a great atmosphere

Wow, what an atmosphere. Came in with my partner on Saturday and originally wanted the flat iron but Danny (big shout out) suggested the Rib Eye and it did not disappoint. He definitely made the experience. We will definitely be back again

Wow wow wow!!!! Absolutely brilliant night spent for mine and my partners anniversary! I can’t remember our waiters name for the life of me, but he made our night so enjoyable and entertaining (hoping he can remember us from the photos!). Truly amazing at his job and made us feel beyond welcome and comfortable. The food was really lovely and would 100% recommend this place - so lucky we found it!! Thank you so much for making our night feel so special! ♥️

It is a lovely restaurant well done out the food was excellent but very pricey could get the same at Miller&Carter the service was slap dash I ask for some tap water when we ordered our drinks never got that not very attentive people that came in after use seemed to get serviced before use also they put a service charge on the bill then tell you you can take it off don't like that , we went there because my son bought my husband gift vouchers for his 70th birthday (£70)had to put another £70 to that over priced just two drinks two starters and two mains .

Excellent food, atmosphere and service. Our server was called Rosco. Nothing was a bother for him. He was very friendly and chatted with us.

Shocking service today, looked like their was a meeting on and no one was serving us. We sat for about 10-15 minutes waiting for someone to take our order even for a drink but all the staff were having a discussion and it didn’t interested them at all that they had customers to serve. When it’s not busy they’re not too bothered how long you wait! Sad as the food looked good

We loved this place. The waiter was amazing. Food was incredible too , we were going to go Miller Carter, but luckily for us, they'd stopped serving , this is some of the best steak I've eaten The atmosphere was great.

Great place, service was impeccable, the food tasted delicious with generous portions. We felt welcome and confortable even with our young son. Thank you Clifford. The music was slightly too loud though, or maybe I would have preferred something less clubby and more jazzy for a lunch. Overall, I would recommend.

Fabulous evening last week. We came as a large group and were split into 2 tables. The service was attentive and friendly! The food came together which was some feat, as we ordered different steaks cooked differently! The sea bass was delicious after I removed the bones!

My second time at the Cut and Craft and I had an excellent time. The steak was absolutely amazing; cooked to perfection and bursting with flavour. The service was top-notch and the cocktails legendary! However, I do agree with others that the music is too loud, which makes it hard to fully enjoy the experience. Also, I miss the curly fries from the old menu, they were amazing. Despite that, I’ll be back for the steak and great service! Just please turn the music down.

High quality steak and bistro. The fillet was flavoursome and the side dishes good additions. Would also recommend the the Sunday roast sharer. The cocktails are fairly priced. Overall experience very good

Very good meal out with friends

We enjoyed a delicious meal here last week Thursday 6 March. The service was fantastic, the staff were very attentive to our needs, friendly and super efficient. However, the couple on the table next to us who in my opinion had also received a top quality meal and service were extremely rude to the staff. They were aggressive and loud and I applaud the staff members who had to deal with them as it was done quietly and efficiently.

The steaks are cooked to perfection, melt in your mouth and very flavoursome. The service was good too. No faults at all. If you prefer a conversation with your meal to music then this isn't the place for you, that's my only issue; the music is overly loud ensuring you shout or soon give up attempting to talk to your company. It's not far off night clubevels of music to give you an idea. I guess there's some psychological reason, maybe you spend more if the music is of a certain type? Idk but it's not for me. It must work though because plenty of people like it. I've been twice now and I think my second time was likely to be my last. I'll be trying out the other places York has to offer.

Great steak but the staff is not very attentive. Dirty glasses of wine and when they served it, the waitress spilled it on my partner's shirt and didn't even apologise. Also, not a very good strategy in seating everyone at the back in the noise of the kitchen, instead of the nice tables at the front.

Very well cooked and tasty beef, but to give a complete experience, they should pay more attention to the polishing of the glasses as well as the seating. The ambiance could be improved to match the food.

Sunday lunch platter is fantastic 😋 👌! The excellent service starts with the young man that opens the door and welcomes you into the restaurant. The Sunday lunch here is the best I've had. 👌

We had the fillet steak and it was absolutely excellent. Our server was friendly and funny, though the staff on the front desk could've been friendlier. The atmosphere was good, but the music was a little too loud and not really the vibe for a nice meal.

Visited the York venue, only for drinks this time but have previously eaten there and the food was excellent. Cocktails were amazing, the atmosphere was very good, all staff, professional and friendly, must mention Johnathan who was incredibly helpful. It was lovely and warm inside and very clean. Highly recommend.

Been for our second visit today, food was amazing, I had the crispy chicken burger with special sauce, my partner had the cauliflower wings and asparagus. Followed by the dark choc cake ( to die for) Staff were friendly only thing that I didn't like was a staff member sweeping around us while we ate, but at least there clean Will visit again...

Everything was stunning. The staff were incredibly attentive and lovely, the food was delicious and the service was speedy! I assume it was busy as it was Valentine's but you wouldn't know by the service and quality. Will definitely visit again!!

A very nice ambience and great food. I and my wife had the three course menue with the main being steak. It was a great choice.

Lovely place, warm and welcoming, good service, staff were attentive and tried hard to please. Went in for lunch, the meal took quite a long time to arrive, I ordered the steak (which was quite expensive) and it was the worse steak I've ever had, the steak knife struggled to cut through it and it was as dry as sticks, ate less than half of it. After walking in to such a lovely place I was disappointed with the meal. That said, other meals being served at other tables looked really nice so maybe the steak was just a bad choice

Jonathan was fantastic with quick and effective service. Was the best experience i’ve had here even though it isn’t my first time. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. The king prawns go well with pinot noir

I visited with some friends for a Galentines meal! It is one of our favourite places in York. Stunning decor, delicious food and lovely staff. Thank you to Jamal for being great and looking after us! We will definitely be back and look forward to trying the Manchester restaurant soon!

Great food ..excellent service.

Food was great. I had the Smoked Haddock Scotch Egg to start and the Lamb as my main, with an array of tasty side dishes. Our server was attentive and friendly, checking in on us regularly without us feeling rushed. Went for a lunch service which was busy and had a lot of children, and contrasted the more refined atmosphere I experience when I went for dinner at the Leeds branch.

We booked here based on the Trip Advisor reviews (it was the 2nd 'best' restaurant in York). We visited on a Thursday for an evening meal. The service was amazing, our main server was fantastic - really personable, polite, and conscientious. We couldn't fault them and left them the optional service charge which was £15, as they were well worth it. The atmosphere was nice, however it's a more lively and upbeat ambiance, you have to speak a little louder to hear one another's conversation - it felt a bit of a student scene too. The food and drink is what let it down. The bread basket with butters to start was lovely, but the steak was mediocre. We ordered a chateaubriand, and while it looked amazing (was cooked to perfection), the taste was bland. It lacked any depth of flavour, and not what we expected from a steak restaurant. The chips were ok (but we left them), and we ordered a side of pigs in blankets and were disappointed when three piggies came out on a bed of cabbage. The pint of Peroni was one of the worse pints we've had in a long time, and the mojito was very unbalanced, I didn't bother drinking it. The website states it's "Elegant dining, exceptional taste", but in our experience it wasn't quite that.

we came here for my friends birthday (it’s a usual spot for birthday meals for me and my friends) we were served by Jonathan who was incredibly attentive and very helpful checking in and making sure the meal was wonderful even helped us pick a bottle of wine, he was also super helpful when i asked if we could do something for my friends birthday and he put a candle in the pudding for us. will definitely be back

Great pre-theatre meal. Despite the early hour it was one of the busiest restaurants we passed, so booking advisable. Service was attentive. Lovely atmosphere. I had the fajitas which was a considerably larger portion than I’d anticipated! Beautifully presented. DH had the lamb which was delicious.

Great food and great staff, well worth the meal

Food was nice although not a lot for your money.

A really good place for an occasion meal. A tiny bit pricier than other places, but WELL worth the price for the quality of the food. Been 3 times in the last few months and enjoyed it every time! Would recommend the mussels as a starter. You get quite a fair portion and the sauce is gorgeous. Their steaks are all very good, we tried several cuts over the course of our visits, but the flat iron steak is an absolute standout- would fully recommend. Never had a steak so tender. Also, at £16, it's definitely a bargain! I don't think you can go wrong with that one. Their truffle chips are so addictive, definitely their best side dish. Would also recommend the bread and butter pudding and sticky toffee pudding. The place itself feels very luxe whilst still being accessible, and the staff are very friendly. There is a nice array of booths, tables, and high tables. A minority of low tables feel a bit exposed/in a thoroughfare when there'sjust 2 or 3 of you, but if you're in a group it's not too bad. The place can also get a bit loud, but not so loud that you can't have a conversation. However, don't let this put you off going, as the staff are very accommodating and let us switch tables. In conclusion, the Cut & Craft is an excellent local independent restaurant and I can't wait to go back!

Best steak we’ve had in years, a lovely meal in a beautiful restaurant and great service.

Food was really nice can’t say a bad word about that. We got cheesy garlic bread and onion rings for starters. Then flat iron steak for main. The steak was 10/10 really soft and tasty. Now to the bad part, ordered 2 cokes… the waitress asked if we would like some water as well we said yes then cheeky get put it on our bill for just short of a fiver!! Then they was also was a service charge which was £7 something! We always tip if services is good but don’t think it should automatically be added to a bill especially when the services wasn’t overly great. One of waitresses also give my other half a really mucky look on way out then when I looked at her and she noticed I seen she give me the biggest fakest smile ever. Would I go back? Erm maybe not in a hurry but like I say can’t say a bad word about the food.

Absolutely a must to visit if your in York. We went for my partners 30th birthday and on arrival he received a birthday card from the staff which was lovely. The cocktails had an immersive experience to them which was a lovely touch. The food was amazing, especially the truffle fries, I really need the recipe 😂. Our server Plifford was really attentive also. Would definitely come again 😋🍷.

Had a brilliant anniversary meal here. Steak were some of the best ever had. Partner had oysters for starters and decent sized prawn starter. The chocolate cherry cake was amazing. Our server Jessica was brilliant.

Felt rushed as slots are only for 90 mins. How can anyone have a three course meal and coffee afterwards unless you're shoving it upboth ends!

Visited here in 24, and we came back virtually a year later to celebrate my partners birthday again! Without doubt one of the nicest restaurants I’ve ever eaten in. The food is absolutely top class and worth every penny. We both love it. The only slight negative this time was the seating. Obvs it was a Saturday night and the Rest was very busy, but where we was sitting was like a scene from piccadilly Circus, staff flying past you every second and then when staff are serving table next two us, staff and virtually sitting on your table. (Not great) as space is very tight. We were on the Lower deck, and the big parties are in the back, so when change over of tables, as we know people are very impatient and desperate to sit down, you have a Que of people crowded around your table whilst trying to eat and drink. I wouldn’t let this small issue stop me attending here in future, I just know In future where to sit and Not 😃👍 Missed Jamal, as he was class in 24, but Elena was good too!

We visited as a couple on a January evening, it was very busy and bookings only. The welcome and all interactions with staff was professional and efficient rather than too chatty. The food was beautiful, the starter of Mushroom was lovely and the French soup was beautiful! The main meal was two steaks flat iron and rump both cooked well to request. Fries were a little cool but the broccoli and cauliflower cheese was a marvel. Perhaps one peppercorn sauce is sufficient for both of us but we ordered two as we were unsure of the size. The atmosphere was nice, clearly the busy evening means tables are set and cleared quickly and even with a time limit on the table didn't feel rushed. There is a 10% optional service charge which we were happy to give for the attentiveness of the whole team. We have been twice now and enjoyed the experience - it is definitely a fine dining experience and not somewhere to drop on on a whim.

My daughter and I had a short break in York before Xmas. We were looking for breakfast and ended up here. We weren't expecting such a lovely experience. The decor ia stunning and it had a great atmosphere. The cooked breakfast was one of the best we've had. The service was of a high standard, we experienced A warm welcome along with attentive, friendly staff. I would highly recommend dining here.

Food was amazing. Me and my boyfriend really enjoyed it, however the steak was slightly chewy, but everything else that we ordered tasted amazing, especially the truffle fries (a must try!). Food came out quite fast and the place is nicely decorated. However, I’m not sure if it’s because they’re busy but the waitress was quite cold towards us, didn’t felt welcoming compared to the lovely lady at reception. A server was also sort of constantly staring at us which made me slightly uncomfortable but everything else was perfect :) . The surprise birthday desert was gorgeous. My boyfriend loved it! would absolutely return!

Cannot fault anything. All staff were polite and attentive. Our server recommended the Passionfruit Mojito which was amazing. We had steak with a selection of sides which were delicious. This was the best food we have eaten in a long time. The atmosphere was perfect. We will definitely be returning. A perfect date setting.

Good is worth every penny, we always get sides to share as the portion size is very generous! Service is excellent and staff are very accommodating and friendly!

Stopped by with my husband whilst visiting York from London. We were hoping for a good steak dinner given the positive reviews. We reached around 7:50 pm and were told rudely by a bouncer that there was no availability till 9:30 pm unless we had a booking. Normally at restaurants you can go in to see the host/ hostess who often is able to accommodate you given that people cancel or don't show up or politely tell you there is no place. This just felt more like getting into a club than a proper steak place. Feels like the positioning of the restaurant is a bit off. Makes sense to have a bouncer later at night, but not to tell off potential dinner guests. We ended up going to Whippet Inn and had a wonderful dinner with good wine and great service despite the place being visibly packed (Cut & Craft had empty tables when we stopped by).

The steak is phenomenal and cooked to perfection. A fine restaurant with a good vibe and great service. Worth every penny!

Accidentally booked Leeds instead of York on NYE and despite being fully booked they squeezed us in without any hassle and gave the best service!

Disappointing that prices have gone up 60% over the past 2yrs

The food is quite normal, mediocre for the price you pay. We had a reservation and they kept us waiting for half an hour and then waited for almost an hour for them to bring us the first dishes. It's nothing from the other Thursday and the meat is not of very good quality.

Best steak I’ve ever had! Flat iron steak, medium rare, cooked to perfection and not a hint of fat or gristle. Cut like butter and tasted amazing. Service was friendly and efficient and the atmosphere buzzing even though the only table we could book for dinner was 4.15pm due to its popularity and our short notice plans. The French onion soup was very thick, more like onion gravy, but very tasty and husband enjoyed calamari and then a crispy chicken burger. Would definitely go again.

Cut and Craft is a fantastic restaurant, especially for a date or adult evening out. This was our second visit and the quality of food and service remains consistently five star. The decor is really cool and the staff are really attentive. As a lover of gin and wine I particularly recommend this place for the great selection on offer. Not only is this a great restaurant, it is particularly good for dinner and drinks before an evening out in York - 5 stars!

Absolute joke, we had a reservation this evening at 9pm….. 30minutes before our table. Not forgetting we booked at 1pm today we have received a phone call to say we can’t bring our 2 month old daughter with us? I can understand not letting kids in a restaurant/pub past a certain time. But a 2 month old baby? And 30 minutes before our reservation. Looks like we are having takeaway this evening. Pathetic customer service.

Food and service consistently excellent here. Also a great selection of wines.
