Fantastic atmosphere with extremely helpful staff 👏

Firstly let me say I've not been here .I'm writing this ' review' on behalf of my daughter , who does not like making a fuss. She booked in advance a table for two for herself and her partner , to celebrate his birthday. After they both took time getting ready ,both looking very respectable , they headed in to town for pre meal drinks before heading to the restaurant, only to be turned away because my daughter's partner had inappropriate footwear . He was wearing an expensive pair of Birkenstock slip on sandals. My daughter was also wearing sandals . They were told they would have to go home and ' change' if they were to be allowed in. Meanwhile people were being let in wearing training shoes and my daughter noticed many woman wearing sandals either in the building or being let in. Surely in this day and age this is discrimination . It may be the brands policy but surely a clean , smart pair of quality sandals can be mentally separated from ' flip flops' ...Both my daughter and her partner looked smart ,were not in any way worse for drinking and being both in their mid twenties, professional people are certainly far from being identified as a risk to offending other customers. Although a smart restaurant you are not the Savoy or the Dorchester and your management lacks common sense and courtesy. You ruined my daughter's surprise evening for her partner you upset her and as such you have upset me. An apology would be good along with an invite for them to return for a meal at a reduced rate..however any response I'm sure will simply refer to company policy ..Common sense these days with regard simply judging character has gone out of the window...shameful .

I've visited Cut and Craft in York on two occasions now for visits to University. The food has always been excellent on both occasions, and there are also daily specials as well. The only criticism I would have is that portions are small - it's generally very rich and it does leave you full, but other restaurants around the same price point give you more for your money. The atmosphere is lovely, and the waiters are also very nice and helpful. I'd definitely recommend a visit if you are looking for good food in York!

Excellent food, excellent service, excellent atmosphere. Not the cheapest date night however, really special. Had the recommended Flat Iron Steak with sides and was not disappointed. Will definitely be back.

Amazing food, atmosphere, and service. My partner and I both did the flat iron steak. He got the chimichurri and Japanese chips (I think), and I got the peppercorn and truffle & Parmesan chips. All were excellent!

I love this place. I been here before, i think a year ago. Today was my second time. The food, the drinks and the atmosphere is fanatastic. I defitnetly recommend this restaurant for people who love luxury.

Got kicked out because my son had a mild sesame allergy. I literally just scraped sesame seeds off his bun the next day, no problem. Still would f even let us eat here.

The flat iron steak at £14 is incredible value and the bone marrow gravy is the business. I tend to go for the mac and cheese and the Japanese Spiced curly fries are 👌 The staff are always really friendly and the atmosphere is great for either a dinner date or a larger group

Very nice place with very friendly staff and excellent food.

As a York resident have been to cut and craft a handful of times. Food has always been great and only had issues with service once. I have been back since and had no further issues. The warm brioche bread is delicious. The flat iron steak I would say is a must when visiting, great value for money. I am gutted that they stopped doing the blue cheese and bacon sauce as it was unreal with the steak! Please bring it back!

First time visiting Cut&Craft York I was so excited for my booking! I ordered the fillet steak and is the first time I eat such a well cooked beef for a long time. The meat was so tender, juicy melting in mouth. A big well done to the chef's. The atmosphere so cozy..!! I will sure be back!

Food great, service excellent as always. The only issue I have is the background music. Dance music? probably not the best choice for age group of the customers when I was there.

The resteraunt was lovely! We went for my grandmas birthday and they Eve gave her a little card! The staff was fab particularly Eleanor who served us. The food was great, we will definitely be back! Thank you cut and craft.

The Cut and Craft, York can only be described as unique and special experience with amazing staff and gorgeous food. Our waiter, Olly, was an expectionally great and friendly host, always checking in us and making sure we had everything we needed. Shout out to the rest of the team as well for being really friendly and professional. The timely manner that food was presented in despite how busy it was had me shocked. The meat on the forest burger was tender and juicy, with the flavours melting together beautifully. The steak was beautifully done and the rest of the food was perfect too. This was our first dinner out in York and certainly will be the only place we go to when we visit again. Thank you!

Ordered the venison but none left so opted for the hake and muscles which was really nice in a tasty sauce I should have ordered veg with it as it did not fill me up . Managed to get in without booking friendly staff and good atmosphere.

Visited tonight for a meal for my 25th birthday, from the second we walked in (45 minutes early and still seated no problem) we were completely impressed with the service from staff, the drinks and the food. I was given an allergen menu, a birthday card and even a complimentary sorbet with a candle. We had heard good things anyway but the entire experience was above and beyond expectations. Our server was delightful and on the ball, honestly can’t fault anything at all. I’ve seen a few people complain about the service charge being added to the bill, but it was made clear that this was optional and they would remove it if we wished although we was more than happy to pay it as it was definitely deserved. Can’t wait to visit again!

The place is always clean and tidy with a lovely atmosphere the staff and manager Will are very good with engaging in conversation and serving to the highest of standards. Food is always very good and a nice place to visit if you are coming to York but would advise to book as it does get busy. Keep up the good work********

Had an amazing night here on Saturday! Decor everywhere is absolutely beautiful for a start, really smart place. I had the flat iron steak, which was gorgeous and well worth it! The staff were super friendly and so attentive all night, and when they required our table back for the next booking, were so helpful in moving us to one of their drinks only tables where we spent a few more hours and had a few more drinks! I would definitely come back here without a doubt, and would definitely recommend!

Would recommend to a friend, very good food beautiful spot. We had Jemal as a waiter and he was great, made sure our steak was cooked how we asked for and was so attentive with making sure we had everything we needed thank you for making our experience perfect

Top food in a pleasant atmosphere with great service! My steak was perfect! The only downside for us was the rather loud background music.

Great Sunday lunch and atmosphere

From entering to exiting this great establishment was a lovely experience. Staff attentive to any whim and the food absolutely delicious - best chicken fajitas I have ever had anywhere and flat iron steak excellent. If in York thoroughly recommend this gem.

Fish & chips was burned and tasted like rubber. The worst we’ve had, and to top it off the waitress was arrogant and unapologetic and had the nerve to charge us a 13% service fee. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.

Fish and chips tasted like cardboard, burnt and completely flavorless. Waitress completely ambivalent and couldn’t care less. Go to any number of other much better places in York, in food, experience, and atmosphere.

Loved this place from the minute we walked in. Everyone was very kind. Food was beautiful. We were there for our anniversary and were given complimentary prosecco and dessert. Would definitely recommend.

One of the best steaks I've had in a long time, I eat mine blue and the Sirloin was sealed perfectly and fell apart with the slightest pressure from my knife. Cocktails are an event I'm themselves, personal favourite was the "Don't open the Box" I think it was called. Great service as well.

Appalling treatment. From the moment we arrived the staff were intent on rushing us to order, eat and leave. The booking allows 1hour 45 mins, we left with an hour feeling stressed and rushed especially when the staff thought it a good idea to wipe the table while we were still eating.

Big fan of the Cut & Craft having been there a number of times and never been dissatisfied. Service is exemplary, the food is exquisite and the atmosphere; although sometimes loud at peak times, can't be beaten. Off menu cocktails are available, I always like to test these things. I love the decor. If ever in York it's certainly recommended, booking is advisable although we have been lucky to be seated when walking up without one.

Busy, good atmosphere, happening place. Average rib eye steak with limited marbling, making the meat tough compared to rib eyes we have had in the past. Nice side orders of veg. Deserts pretty good. Paid £28 for a pretty poor Shiraz wine, wish we had pushed it and chosen a £38 bottle instead. Expensive for what it was and have had much better steak elsewhere. Glad we tried it but nothing special.

We would rank this as our ‘No1’ steak resturant well above Groucho’s but on a per with (now closed) The Grill on New York Street in Manchester. Service - excellent. Food - WOW! Value for money -yes!! Thanks you team last night. What a perfect evening!!!

Highly recommend the 'don't open the box' cocktail, and their signature steak. The atmosphere felt sophisticated yet cosy. The service was very good too.

Really nice food, great Service, really nice place.. would have give full stars but the only thing I didn’t like was there was no break between the starter and main course, and there were empty tables and we were the last sitting well within our time slot. As soon as our starter plates were taken away the mains showed up near enough straight away.

Warm welcome by well presented receptionist and sat down. Introduced to waitress (Abi) who was phenomenal thoughout. Recommended the Flat Iron Steak which was 10/10 in terms of flavour and texture. I also got to try their house lager before deciding which was delicious. Abi took the time to explain a few things such as the flight Espresso Martinis which enhanced my experience. Great atmoshphere, food, drink and service! Will definitely be returning soon. Thank you to everyone at The Cut & Craft in York for a memorable experience.

Food was amazing. Came for husband birthday treat. First time at cut and craft and was everything what we was hoping for.

This is a beautiful restaurant with a great atmosphere. We visited twice on Sunday as the food was so good. Our lovely waitress Charlotte remembered us from earlier and we were given a free glass of Prosecco. My friend and I wanted to share a roast beef dinner and the chef obliged by giving us half rare beef and half well done. My friend then received a free ice cream with candle for her birthday. Food is fabulous. Service is wonderful. Make this a must visit in York . Thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

This place 🥰 From the very start you are made to feel welcome. The front of house staff are friendly and polite. The decor is gorgeous and there’s so much room! You definitely do not feel like you’ve been crammed in there. The cocktails are gorgeous- they know what they’re doing. The chefs are incredibly talented; two steaks, different thicknesses, both cooked medium and arrived absolutely perfect. The goats cheese start should be on everyone’s list. We came after getting married (just the two of us) the staff gave us a card and Prosecco- this was our first congratulations and it will not be forgotten. I would recommend this place to everyone. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

We didn't actually eat here we never made it past the greeting desk, as soon as we walked in through the door it was made quite clear that we weren't welcome mainly by the look of abject disgust from the blond woman behind the desk

The service was above and beyond, the staff and management were amazing and so accommodating to our strange request, and insisted we got our sauce home safe! The food was absolutely unbelievable, the best steak we’ve ever had and we savoured every mouthful. Amazing value for money and would recommend this experience for anyone traveling to York.

Came here for lunch with my mother who was given a £50 voucher for Christmas to eat at the Cut and Craft. Was seated very quickly and served immediately. They did warn us food maybe a bit of a wait but after we ordered our food. A farmhouse burger and a Chicken burger, the food came within 10 minutes expecting to take longer. Menu wasn’t quite clear. We both enjoyed the burgers but chips were too salty and cold. Service was great, greeted with a smile, explained the menu and were very helpful. When it came to paying the bill, because we gave a tip the waitress decided to take the service charge off which was great of them. It meant we didn’t have to pay extra as we used the amount on the voucher. The restaurant itself was clean, very modern and had a lovely warm atmosphere. Would definitely be coming again especially to try the flat iron steak we didn’t know about. I believe it’s their speciality dish which is £14. Would totally recommend anybody come and try Cut and Craft.

What an absolute gem of a place! Booked online as previous reviews had stated it gets busy. They were not wrong! Arrived 10 minutes before our reservation and was promptly seated. Lovely atmosphere and the music was just loud enough so you could still have a chat and not be screaming at each other. Great table service and attentive staff, everything was done beautifully. We ordered oysters and calamari for starters, a burger and the flat iron steak for mains with a side of honey carrots. No disappointment at all and the steak was like butter. For £14!!! Be mindful of the "water for the table" question, although we've paid more than £4.50 when we've been caught out previously. We will definitely be coming back.

We came to York for my husbands Birthday and found the Cut and Craft online. I love the decor as it was very art deco with a modern twist which was beautiful. We were seating on a nice big round table by the window and our waitress was lovely. Drinks came so quickly and for starter I had the calamari and my husband had the pork belly with were a very impressive size and for main we both went for the sirloin beef roast dinner, now I don't usually go for roast dinners in restaurants as for me they never really compare to your moms home cooked and I always feel a bit disappointed, but that was not the case here wow what a delicious meal I highly recommend. The to finish us of and I do mean that literally and It was hard to walk back to our hotel I had the biscoff cheesecake and my husband had the brownie and they were both perfect. Thankyou for an amazing meal we will deffinatly return.

We went 23rd Feb for my birthday as it had been recommended. We were thrilled with the experience. We both had flat iron steak which was cooked to perfection. The home made chips were to die for. I have to say one of the best meals we have eaten. They handed me a birthday card and a desert with a candle. What a fantastic experience. Bravo 👏

Visited with my sister for lunch, we have been before and had a beautiful ciabatta steak sandwich. So when we saw the steak sandwich on the lunchtime special menu, we hoped it would be as good as our last visit. Unfortunately it wasn't, it was a smaller version than last time, probably because it was part of a 2 for £19.95 deal with either a starter or a dessert. The size wasn't the issue though, it was the taste, it was over filled with tomatoes which made the bread go very mushy and kept breaking up so it was really hard to eat as a sandwich. Also it was disappointingly bland, just no real taste to it and not really a lot of steak on it. When our waitress came to clear our plates she did ask us if our meal was ok and I explained to her why it wasn't and she apologised and said she could have had a fresh one made for us, but I said I think it's just how it's made, just way too much tomato so a fault in the recipe really. For dessert we had the warm chocolate brownie with cream and it was absolutely gorgeous, just melted in your mouth and made up for the disappointing meal. The staff we're all fantastic, very friendly and helpful and as always it was a lovely atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. The service charge wasn't appreciated but we were told we didn't have to pay it, which was fine. We will definitely visit again the next time we're in York.

We came for my friends birthday on Monday, what a treat! Steaks were incredible & sides were delicious. We were served by Jess who was so welcoming. We even got a birthday card and a dessert with a candle for the birthday girl! Little extra touches really do go a long way! Thank you Cut & Craft! Recommended! We will be back!

First visit, would say its top quality, service 1st class, sometimes ott but hey its quality, food was quality, from starter to main and desert! Really good vibe to the place, and at reasonable price, but you get what you pay for, highly recommended and will definitely revist when back in York.

Cut and Craft got a lot right but unfortunately a lot wrong. However I am optimistic that this was a one off and am open to giving them another chance. The starters were not to me and my partners tastes, the garlic mushrooms could only be described as ‘herby’ whereas we prefer a creamier taste. Obviously this is a personal preference others may enjoy the flavour. However the mac and cheese on this occasion was not a personal preference and really didn’t taste of anything besides raw pasta. The restaurant took this onboard however and removed the is from my bill which I thought was a great gesture as I don’t really expect anything for free even if we didn’t eat it. Finally during my meal I received a missed call from the restaurant claiming I had missed my booking and was to be charged a cancellation fee ? Although they removed this from my bill it caused unnecessary stress and put a bit of a dampener on the evening considering everything else and was not a great end to a birthday meal. The positives were that the steaks were second to none. Cooked perfectly with a great taste and great sauces. I would finally like to add the waiter (young male didn’t catch his name) was superb and couldn’t do enough for us, along with a friendly and down to earth vibe which really salvaged the night and made us feel comfortable. They also went the extra mile for my partners birthday which included a complimentary drink, dessert and a card which were really above and beyond. I will give cut and craft another chance in the future and would recommend others to give it a go if your on the fence as stated before the steak and service was excellent.

We had a family lunch here over Half Term - very impressed by the set menu offering and pricing. Food was good quality but when the bill arrived - they charged us separately for everything including the kids drinks and ice cream - when queried they went and fixed it removing £17ish at the bottom to resolve - or at least I thought they did until I was on the train and rebooked at the prices - we had been charged for the 3 course menu so meaning an additional £15 for the 3 adult meals - very frustrated with this as I like to support local rather than chain but on this case I felt ripped off!

The signature flat iron steak was out of this world with flavour 10 out of 10, so soft and juicy 😋. And the house salt was amazing also I bought a bottle to take home.

Such a shame. Great service let down by some execution issues with the food, namely … French onion soup. In the rush to serve the cheese had not been warmed through to a blistering temperature such that the cheese had cooled the actual soup down and wasn’t really fully melted. French onion soup should always be served volcanic hot. The steak sandwich. The tomato base on the sandwich was much too wet and made the baguette soggy after it had soaked in. The food however was tasty and plentiful but the above is for improvement.

Booked for my birthday, we where greeted warmly and when asked if there was an occasion and we mentioned my birthday they very sweetly dropped off a birthday card at the table. The waiter was very lovely, we ordered quite quickly and the food came not long after. We both ordered the steak and it was honestly the best steaks we had ever eaten. Amazingly cooked and seasoned to perfection, the brocoli was spicy but so delicious. Ordered the chocolate brownie for dessert and again it was probably the best brownie I've ever eaten so moist and soft. Amazing experience, the food was phenomenal and the staff where lovely. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a delicious meal, although a bit on the pricey side still worth it.

A little pricey but nice and the staff were very attentive and welcoming. Quite loud what I would call club like music playing but I appreciate it's also a bar and that it's not my music taste. Recommend the halloumi fajitas and pavlova but my husband said his fillet steak was quite bland.

We had a visit to York today 2 adults 2 children. And decided to have some dinner at the cut and craft, I ordered a T-bone steak and a side of mac and cheese, the t-bone was dripping in oil and that’s all I could taste. The mac and cheese was watery. And the service was none existent. The atmosphere was good though and I didn’t like the idea of a service charge added to my bill. Although that is optional and was removed. For nearly £230 I would expect perfection. And it just wasn’t there. I wouldn’t visit again.
