Fancy Hank’s Bar & Kitchen in York

Nice burger, chips were good but few. Exciting cocktail menu. Bit of a wait for drinks. Overall it comes down to a pretty standard burger at a price a bit high for what you get. We live in York and as there is plenty of competition a little more would be great for a £15 burger e.g. some sort of salad on the side or an onion ring or two. Reviews are generally great for this place so maybe we were unlucky!

Booking process was easy over the phone. Service on the day was fantastic. Our bartender was lovely and patient (we were a hen party and girls are annoying when they’re all together like that). We also had some difficult members of the party who didn’t like certain things, but they were super accommodating and everyone had such a good time! Thank you so much!

We booked here after a trip to the theatre. It was quieter when we arrived but soon got busier so glad we booked! Menu is quite simple to follow and the food was absolutely delicious. We got a side of onion rings and halloumi and pleased we did as everything was delicious and hot and cooked beautifully. Only one toilet in the whole place which isn't a problem but if it were busier might be bit of a wait. Definitely recommend while in York.

We have had some hits and misses while in York but by far the best scran we had whilst in this amazing city, I really wish they had a Francy Hanks in Liverpool that gravy was out of this world sh*ts all over KFC chicken tenders where fresh and amazing and chicken burger was amazing 5/5

Was in York for the Christmas market and was looking for somewhere to get a good burger and I saw this place mentioned on a few websites so thought we'd give it a try. Very happy that we did! From the outside it looks like a tiny place but it goes back quite far inside. I had the fancy hanks burger which was 2 patties, cheese and bacon jam. The meat itself was really juicy and tasty, and the bacon jam gave it a really good extra bacon flavour. Was in a really good soft fresh bun. Came with a good portion of really good fries as well. My wife got the cheesy spinach dip which was also really good. She doesn't like spicy food so asked the waitress if it was spicy. She said she didn't know but she would go and check. She checked and was told it wasn't (which was correct!) Lovely cheesy dip served with loads of tortillas. Although they seemed a bit overcooked. The service was really good through the whole meal and we really enjoyed our food. They did add an optional 10% on the bill (and I do understand why places do this) but we actually left a bit extra as well because the service was so good. Would highly recommend the food here and I know we'll be back in future.

The food was good, chicken could do with more seasoning and the gravy but other than that I couldn’t complain. The staff serving us on the floor were friendly but my mum went up to the toilet and heard the kitchen staff basically taking the p**s out of our order as we had asked for something to be plain. It really put me off, how rude to be taking the meds out of a paying customers order and complaining about it?? And we knew it was ours as we were the only people there. The place could do with a clean and it was a bit smelly too. Average visit.
