I would say the experience is a 2/3 out of 10 Starters were okay, I ordered the parmo and chips as my main and it came out swimming in oil. I could honestly say the parmo’s from the kebab shops in Northallerton have less oil than what they served me. I also ordered the kids pizza and chips to come out with the starters and my son was handed a Chicago town microwavable pizza. Thankfully he refused to eat it and in all honesty I don’t blame him. When I told the lady at the bar that I wasn’t happy with being served a Chicago town pizza, she seemed to have had the hump about the complaint. After looking at the reviews, this is something other customers have had issues with. I may be wrong and they may not have purchased the pizza’s from Tesco’s however I do think it states on the packaging of the Chicago town pizza boxes (not to be sold separate separately) . I also stated that the pizza had been microwaved and she told me that it hadn’t and it had been in the oven. This is straight up a lie as I remember eating Chicago town pizzas when I was about 12 and if it had been in the oven, it would’ve been as hard as nails not soggy. I would probably have given this a 5 out of 10 had it not been for the fact I was served a pizza that was cooked in the microwave and it had clearly purchased from Tesco. Also the fact they are charging £5.95 for one microwave pizza is a joke. I could buy two in Tesco’s for £2.50 so it’s an absolute rip-off. Even though I don’t think I would purchase it as they are vile.

Not a single fault in tonight's meal for any of us. Steak, chicken, burgers. Beautiful piece of steak you would be over the moon with in the highest echelon of establishments. We were very envious of each other's meals. Service was spot on too.

Love this place, I personally think it’s the best one in Northallerton, just wish it had a website or even an online menu , I’ve taken pictures of the paper one to put with this review (sorry for any glare)

What's happened to the portion size? Now much less than before the recent closure. 😢 staff still really pleasant though.

We regularly attend Barkers Kitchen when we visit Family in Northallerton. We don’t Normally leave a review but on this occasion I felt it was necessary. When we arrived we joined the queue for hot food which I must say was absolutely delicious. The member of staff at the till was happy and smiley and her customer service was 100 percent ! We did however notice what I can only describe as a manager or supervisor was absolutely disgraceful towards a member of the team. I have been in hospitality for many years and I have never witnessed such a shocking experience in bad leadership and degrading a member of staff . She clearly has no values and total disrespect for staff I suggest management get a grip and get ontop of this situation. It made us feel uncomfortable and embarrassed so we have decided never to set foot in Barkers Kitchen again!

The café is situated on the second floor of Lewis and Cooper store and is a hidden Gem. My wife and I often eat there and it deserves some praise. The staff are always helpful and polite. there is usually a choice of seating area and we choose near the window overlooking Northallerton's High street. The English breakfast is delicious and the sausages and bacon are supplied by the butchers at Masham on the Yorkshire dales. Specialist scones are made on the premises and are definitely worth trying. The staff are great, very polite and attentive.
