We happened to pass by and saw there was a cafe in this gallery so we came in for a coffee and cake. The cappuccino wasn't brilliant, it was more like a latte with chocolate on top but the homemade amaretto biscuit was super.

Decorated really nicely in a beautiful building but absolutely no ambiance inside, very small only 5 tables and no music or radio so just sat in silence. Went for coffee and cakes but selection of cakes poor and scones left out on side uncovered where flies can get to them. Wont be returning.

As a party of 4 adults, we stopped for lunch and ate outside in the courtyard. In no time at all our orders were take (from blackboard specials and a written menu) and served to us very quickly. Superb, fresh, home-made pate and quiche dishes were served with smiles and friendly banter. We held back from coffee and desserts this time, but won't when we next visit! Finish your visit by viewing the gallery and shop - some amazing items to treat yourself, or buy for gifts. We can't recommend the Gallery cafe too highly. Enjoy!

It was so worth going down the side street to find this little gem. Welcomed by friendly and efficient Lewis, under good cover even though outside due to COVID restrictions, we sampled delicious homemade soup (pea and mint) and goats cheese panini. Both really tasty and brought to us very quickly. A trip to the loo gave us the opportunity to look in the gallery...full of beautiful pictures and gift items. Definitely worth a visit and somewhere we would go to again.

Well here we are back again at our favourite little gem of a cafe in the centre of Northallerton. Our return visits have not disappointed ~ the coffee and cheese scones are just as good as they were before the lockdown and although the tables are now a bit further apart and the staff have to stand a bit further away the service is still as good as ever and well recommended. The menu is a little smaller than before but the quality remains the same ~ good food ~ good safe environment and good value for money ~ what's not to like? Next time you are in Northallerton do yourself a favour ~ turn into Zetland Street and treat yourself to a great coffee and a great bite to eat.

We needed a quick light lunch and were signposted here - and what find! Eating amongst as many great artistic creations adds to the experience. There is a basic but adequate menu, with food very quickly prepared, nicely presented and all tasting very appealing. We opted for the soup and sandwich combo and would particularly highlight the flavour of the soup and the softness of the bread. The staff were pleasant and polite. If I am to make one negative comment then it would be over the high-level cobwebs around some of the windows in the eating area - come on, no excuse for this in a cafe - get a long feathered duster and get them taken down before they fall in someone's food!

And no visit is complete without a trip to Northallerton to see what Prints are on display in this great complex of galleries. Having an excellent cafe on site must extend the time folks stay and view, chat, browse and buy. On this occasion we had a light lunch of delicious, hot, Minestrone soup paired with a really fresh wholemeal roll. And mackeral pate. To follow, Battenburg and lemon drizzle cake washed down with teas and coffees. We will return. Hayling Seagoon

A little gem just off the main high street. We have been visiting twice a week for about a year and have never been disappointed. It’s clean & bright with friendly, helpful staff. The cappuccinos are always nice and hot and not too strong. The cheese scones are truly LOVELY. Ask for them hot and they are DIVINE as they will be served lightly grilled from a panini maker. If you look through the window and it appears full do not despair ~ there are three other rooms where you can sit and enjoy your visit.

Heavily advertised as dog friendly, however only on carpeted areas! The cafe is not dog friendly as was demonstrated by the loud, abrupt and rude way staff spoke to a couple who walked in with their dog, having seen the dog friendly sign on the door. Staff couldn't understand why the couple had chosen to leave rather than drag their dog upstairs to an unknown room which may/may not have had seats. You are allowed to have a drink , and n some seating areas with your dog, but can't go to the cafe to order. Impossible on your own with a dog. They need to rethink dog acçess. It would make more sense to have dogs on the tiled floors and keep the carpeted rooms dog free. Coffee is good, limited selection of snacks and cakes. Good gallery.

Firstly I am delighted that the gallery is dog friendly and that there are comfy places where you can eat with your pooch that aren't outside. Having said that I cannot understand why the large, easily accessible hard floored downstairs cafe isn't one of them - instead they prefer that you drag your dog upstairs to the carpeted area or into the tiny snug. I just don't get it! Apart from that the cheese scones are lovely and the service is good.

Order at the counter and staff will bring your food and drinks to you wherever you choose to sit. Going around the cafes in Northallerton you notice a sameness in the choices, bacon, brie and cranberry everywhere, you get that here but how about pear, gorgonzola and gooseberry jam panini (my wife's choice) or salmon pate on toast (my sister's choice). I chose the blt because I just like blts. The food is excellent, the setting is lovely in a converted 18th century town house. After food it's well worth looking around the gallery part partly for the art, partly for the opportunity to look around a historic building. It's worth eating upstairs and making use of the comfy leather armchairs.

My family and I visited the Jo Cornish Gallery's cafe for a snack lunch and I ordered a goat's cheese and caramelised red onion toastie and an Americano coffee. The coffee came in a large cup and was full, literally, to the brim - no space to put any milk in, so I had to decant some of it into a small jug on the table. We weren't given any milk and had to get it ourselves and we also weren't given any cutlery. I think the young man who served us must have been learning the ropes, but we really didn't have good service and the food was, at best, mediocre. There wasn't much filling in my toastie and the red onion was hard to find.My daughter has been to the cafe before and said that this was not their normal level of service, but I can only comment on what we encountered on the day.The Gallery itself is great though!

There are only five tables in the cafe, plus a couple of sofa's in the snug, so I was lucky to get a table at lunchtime. There is a very good selection of cakes, plus a limited menu of savoury foods such as homemade soup, toasties or sandwiches. The fillings seemed to be homemade and offered a very different range from the normal run of the mill cafe fare. The salmon pate sandwich I ordered was made with very nice bread and served with homemade coleslaw and some salad leaves with a drizzle of Balsamic vinegar. It was delicious and I will go back again to try the other options. At £6.20 it was fairly expensive, but worth it for the quality. The service was efficient and friendly although oddly one of the two women made her own lunch and went off to eat it during what must be the cafe's busiest time. This meant the tables weren't cleared and if they were, they weren't wiped down. I appreciate that the staff need to eat, but the height of the lunch rush is not the time to leave the cafe short staffed. The food hygiene rating was 5

The Joe Cornish gallery and shop is worth a visit anyway; lovely photos, unusual gifts, cards and trinkets, and the cafe is a real bonus. Cakes, scones, soup etc. seem to all be homemade. The building is one of the few around the town centre to maintain it's Georgian (?) rooms and features and the rustic furniture in the cafe with huge photos on the walls makes for a nice ambiance. It is mid-priced for cafes in the town and just slightly off the main drag, although only about a minute's walk off the high street. I think it may be veggie, certainly haven't seen any bacon butties, but if you are mostly fancying a slice of cake and a coffee it is well worth a try.

But now to the cafe - it was a lovely, comfortable, warm, welcoming room, with quirky furniture and crockery. The coffee was delicious as were the cheese scones and the summer fruit frangipan tart, with its thin, crispy pastry. There was a wide range of food on offer from snacks to lunches and the lady who served us was very pleasant, attentive and friendly without being 'in your face'. All in all, an excellent experience which I am looking forward to repeating. There were also tables and chairs outside.

Quality is good. However, the portion sizes have massively decreased, the Parmesan for example is half the size it used to be and is very very thin. Chips are only provided to share between the table, so this is a clear way of trying to save money. The Bay Horse always used to be consistently good when booking a large group. Unfortunately , this will be the last time I visit until they sort out their portion sizes for the price they charge I ordered and paid for drinks at the bar which cost me £40. 2 pints of Pepsi 2 J20 2 sparkling water 2 half pints of lemonade 1 lime and soda 2 lattes
