Katch in Hambleton

I called looking for a room for the night at short notice and was relieved to hear that they had one available.

Great location being right on the high street, excellent food, nice atmosphere with a good selection of drinks.

Fantastic fish and chips tonight, could not fault, will definitely be going back. Thank you to Tim for your attentive service, a credit to the team.

Location great on the high street. The room was huge. Staff and facilities were great. The windows were quite thin so you could hear noise from outside however they did supply ear plugs

Warm friendly greeting very helpful staff all food we ordered arrived together hot and fresh portion of fish chips mushy peas home made tartar sauce prawn cocktail was full of prawn no skimping here and a portion of scampi chips peas again plenty off well worth a visit will be back

Unfortunately we never got to sample the food so I can't comment on that. We went in at lunchtime on market day. It was quite busy at the front so we were invited to go through to the dining room. As we went in, the young man at the bar told us to find a seat & he would be with us shortly. There were only 2 other tables occupied. We duly sat down - no menus on the tables - & waited for him to come over. He was slowly putting saucers on a tray & slowly making coffees. He then took some spoons over to one of the occupied tables & returned to the bar to continue with his saucer placing. I did see him look over at our table, but still nothing was done. After approx quarter of an hour, the manageress walked through & asked him to make 4 more coffees. At this point we decided we'd had enough, put our coats on & walked out. We walked right past him & he neither caught our eyes or offered any sort of apology. I suggest he needs a course of customer service training or the restaurant will be losing a lot of business.

We came here for some light lunch and it was really nice. It was slightly quiet but we did come on a Tuesday. The staff were friendly and service was quick. Overall I’d go back as good value for money!

Unfortunately had the worst meal ever and have been a few times. I had gammon egg pineapple and chips. the gammon was like leather and the chips looked like they had scraped the barrel. All I got was an apology

Went to get lunch. Arrived at2.25 om and they said they stopped serving food at 2.30 pm. The website states 3pm. Even though we we early still refused food. Shocking attitude and service and the glass was dirty. Don’t bother!!!

Stayed for 2 nights and liked it so much we wanted to stay an extra night. Unfortunately no room at the Inn. Fortunately Leanne managed to get us a room at their sister hotel the Golden Lion just a short walk away. Enjoyed our lunch. Leanne really helpful with the room and sorting taxis. Room roomy and hugh bed. Will stay again.

Not a bad plate of fish and chips, although i reckon the tartare sauce was out of a factory produced tub, but generally a decent meal.

i can only speak about the food and what we had today was exceptionally good. normally i'd never eat beef burgers but i knew their food was good from previous visits and so, when i had the deluxe burger it turned out to be the best of the best. super juicy meat, deliciously cooked and presented. this burger was to die for. my wife had the same and our friends had Cumberland sausage and the other had the coconut chicken curry, every morsel was consumed. we had a bottle of red, three pints of lager, one pint of Guinness and three americano coffees oh yes and there was a side ordered of Haloumi fries. we've been before and never been let down and we will be back. thanks guys

We (my wife and I) decided to stay in the Katch hotel on a Saturday night. The rooms were large, well lit and very clean. The bathroom and shower were OK. The temperature control was a little tricky in the shower but could be set to a nice temperature with a little bit of patience and persistence. Now, for the bad points. The rooms were very noisy, slamming doors and loud conversations internally. Externally the noise coming from the courtyard was horrific, screeching, screaming and loud drunken conversations until well after 3am. If you want a good night's sleep, go somewhere else, unless you are likely to be "clubbing" until the early hours.

Takeaway, Fish cake? Horrific, don’t order, it’s just horrible mash, couldn’t taste or see any fish in it. Burnt, and it was cooked to order, or burnt to order more accurately. A Fish cake is two slabs of potato with a fish centre, bartered and fried. This was neither fish, cake or nice.

Booked a room 3nights for our son & partner re family meet up. Unfortunately very bad accident on 17th Nov 2022. Only one hour away from Northallerton. After 3hrs waiting for police to clear motorway. Was diversion.another route re Wakefield we advised Katch we would be late checking in advised the reception. Spoke to a young person. An left a voicemail. After a long trip My Son & partner. saw no lights on at Katch tried to alert some in darkness. No night reception. Ect My Husband an Myself where booked at Allerton Court it was now 1Ipm we had a lovely message saying not to worry they will wait for us an fortunately Had an free room for our Son.! Next day no one from Katch contacted us??? We had paid!! for 3nights!! Eventually I phone them!!! They said its totally katch fault said we will getFull. Refund so at this point they where full. An my Son having to pay again for accommodation. Hence we have now too weeks later trying to get our money back via bookings. Com Katch said we was late booking in!!! unknown to Katch my sister lives in Northallerton an also had told Katch re our situation. Katch had re sold the 2nights which we had paid for.!! An will only offered us one night refund. I we take this further if a full refund is not offered for 2 nights was prepared to loose 1 night. Dissapointed in the Hotel.

Just been today, very comfortable place, great staff, very good pub grub too. Chicken royale burger and her indoors had the posh fish finger paninni. A pint and a half of v good Italian beer, a side of double fries. £27. Totally enjoyable. Thank you guys, see ya soon.

I ordered a burger which came with cheese as standard. I specifically said twice for burger to be served without cheese. When it arrived, guess what? Yep it had cheese on. No problem with that, we all get things wrong. Burger was returned to the kitchen. The waitress returned and demanded to know if the problem was because I was allergic to cheese. I explained it was because the taste of cooked cheese made me feel I'll. Their solution was to scrape the cheese off which I'm guessing would have been difficult as it was melted into the burger.This was pretty much the only solution offered as "anything else will take some time to prepare."One of the friends who was with me had to ask three times for extra gravy.Cannot see a return visit happening any time soon.

Been here a few times for cocktails of an evening and can’t recommend this place enough! They have a massive cocktail menu with traditional classics as well as more unique ones like reeses pieces and Ferrero rocher. Very comfortable environment with regard to covid too with lots of space and screens between tables.

Thanks for the great food and service we got at lunchtime today. Took a relative for a birthday treat, nothing was a problem displaying balloon at the table and all the staff taking time out to bring the cake and sing happy birthday. Was a lovely surprise for her.

Went to Katch after refusing to go in to another resturant due to it not complying with Covid 19 guidelines. The young man, Tyrone managed to fit us in and we bserved their procedures..everything from tables and chairs to the condiment pots was sanitised all the time every time.The attentiveness of all the staff was impressiveAs a major plus the food and service was amazing and due to the offer, very good value.We will go back even when the offer ends. This is the first time we’ve had fish and chips from Katch and certainly not the last. The ‘order and collection’ service works really well and the quality of food is exceptional. We ordered fish and chips, a scampi and chips and a child’s sausage meal, everything was absolutely beautiful, and the portions are incredible. We will definitely return and can’t wait to visit the restaurant when this pandemic is behind us. Thank you for great customer service and exceptional quality food. See you soon.

We picked up Fish and Chips here on the way home, went for the large cod which was excellent, although it could always be bigger for me!

Barstaff extremely friendly and the guys in the restaurant very helpful also. Really enjoyed the seafood platter. Good portion sizes and my wife enjoyed her seafood curry. The value is incredible. Definitely be back.

Stumbled across the restaurant at the back , after going in to what we thought was just a pub.The fish and chips are fabulous along with the service and the best part is they also do take away!!

This is the second in 2 weeks we have been for quiet afternoon drinks for a catch up . And there has been drilling and work done . Surley this should be done while the place is closed . Otherwise lovely place .

My husband and I had our valentines treat at this seafood restaurant, it was our first experience of this relatively new restaurant and we had a great time. The surroundings, the food, the warm welcome and the entertainment we could not fault. I plan to take a relative for her birthday next month. The only thing I would pick up on was the timings between courses but to be fair it was well worth the wait.

The service was arguably the best part of the Katch experience - the staff attentive, friendly and helpful to my wife who is a wheelchair user. The food and range of drinks are acceptable without being in any way exceptional but Katch provides reasonable value for money.

Saturday evening meal, lovely decor, nice chilled atmosphere, attentive service. Food was brilliant, with good sized portions. Predominantly seafood but other options available too. Looking forward to our next visit.

What a superb restaurant. The food was absolutely perfect in its execution and presentation. The fish dishes were freshly prepared and cooked to delicious perfection. The seating is well spread out so that you aren't rubbing shoulders with other diners. The cutlery is beautiful and the glassware is of a good quality. The service was very good and nothing was too much trouble. We are looking forward to our next visit, but oh, the dilemma of what to choose.....

Been walking past this pub for years and going to the golden lion hotel.decided today To try match what a brilliant place leaves the golden lion for dead.excellent friendly staff,spacious restaraunt excellent food.we are eating there from now on

Disappointed. We always get our fish and chips here but this evening the fish small. Terrible batter had to pick the fish out. Chips very dry don’t think they were fresh.

We have been to Katch several times before at various times of the day, the service varies from very good to not so good but the food has always been good . But one thing we have never seen is a notice informing customers of the openings times . Bearing in mind that you have to walk though the bar to get too the restaurant there isn't any obvious notices in there either.Today we went in with the intention of having a meal in the restaurant at 3pm , we went in though the front door ,past staff at the bar and headed for the open restaurant door , only to be pounced on by a member of the restaurant staff ,waving her hands and saying no ! There where people in the restaurant and the main door was still open. Surely if afternoon service was over the door should be close and a notice displayed stating its close and what it's opening times are !It's highly unlikely that we will ever eat in there again !!!!!!!

This is our second visit here and the food is delicious. It’s a spacious restaurant and bar with friendly staff. I would highly recommend eating here when in Northallerton. Today I had homemade steak and ale pie.

Recently new place , The best seafood pancake I’ve eaten for a long time - full to the brim with seafood , Salmon, also cod I think and HUGE king prawns - the other meal we ordered was a posh fish finger sandwich which was also delicious - polite staff, and nicely decorated pub . Will look forward to calling again to try the fish n chips next time thy looked huge on someone’s table nearby .

Visited the local market whilst staying in nearby Richmond and gave Katch a try and whilst far from the best fish and chips we have had what we had was freshly cooked to order which obviously incurred a wait but it was worth it. Reasonably good sized portions and cost.

Our first visit, and we fortunately, we weren't aware of the mixed reviews! Outside, we were given a 10% discount voucher, strange, as we were going in anyway.We were given a very friendly welcome and offered either the bar or restaurant. Deciding on the restaurant, we were seated and our order taken reasonably promptly. As all the food is cooked to order, we expected the wait. On arrival, my large cod and chips, with mushy peas, tartare sauce, tea and bread and butter looked delicious. My wife ordered the Whitby scampi and chips.Both meals were very good, beautiful chips, crisp batter, and a nice piece of fish. The home made tartare sauce was superb. Good sized portions.I had to ask for my tea, but otherwise, service was friendly, professional and prompt.Not the very best fish and chips, but probably the best in town!

the guy taking orders behind the bar was more interested in chatting to his 3 friends drinking at the bar got my order wrong so ii ended up with eggs royale instead of benedict so the waitress was apologetic took it away brought eggs benedict which was cold and eggs weren t cooked my husband never got his cup of tea ,what a shame we didnt go elsewhere

Like many of the other people who have reviewed Katch I had heard a number of not so good reviews. As my other half fancied fish and chips we decided to give it a try. How different it is from the old pub that was it’s predecessor, the interior was a surprise with its long elegant bar area, we decided to go through to the restaurant for our first visit. There was plenty of room the layout is interesting and for the most part looks very elegant although I’m not sure about the plastic flowers on what I presume was an attempt to create a Mediterranean outdoor area inside. Anyway it should be about the food, there was an offer of 10% off which is always a good start we weren’t too adventurous but what we had was very nice. Everything seemed to be cooked fresh to order and was hot when served. The mushy peas were a bit watery but I prefer to add my own seasoning as well as lots of vinegar where as the other half doesn’t like them with salt and vinegar so it’s best left for the individual to get them to taste. Proper chips and nice and dry and crisp not swimming in grease as I often find in most establishments locally. Fish was fresh and just the right amount of batter. The only down side was the tartare sauce which was more mayonnaise than tartare we did mention this to the chap who served us and he passed it on to the kitchen apparently it is made fresh daily by the kitchen staff so it all rests with whoever made it that day. Drinks were nothing special but the carafe of iced water is a nice touch. The staff all seemed very nice and very attentive. Overall I would suggest trying this place for yourself the difference from excellent to terrible in the reviews is an enigma I find it difficult to judge a place with such diverse reviews so prefer to try for myself. If we fancy fish and chips having this restaurant near by certainly saves a trip to Whitby where incidentally all the fish and seafood is sourced from.

Four of us dined the night before the UCI World Championship time trials which set off from Northallerton and the restaurant was surprisingly empty.Service was good but the food was a let down.Starters of scallops with prawns and black pudding were tasty but it was really a case of black pudding with scallops (2) and prawns (2). Main course of sea bream with gnocchi in a thick, coagulated, creamy sauce was poor. Over cooked fish, stodgy sea of gnocchi. Not very pleasant really. Had to leave the 'sauce'.Fish and chips got good marks though.No puds. Were the only ones left at that stage.
