Katch in Hambleton

Got large cod and chips which the fish was fried fresh, however the chips seemed to have been recooked several times by the look of them. They were of the frozen variety and very dark brown in colour and didn't taste nice at all, infact they were binned i couldnt eat them. The fish was nice but I don't think I'll be going back here though

My favourite place to stay in Northallerton

Very rude staff when asked to make a drink. Card machine didn’t work first time so was asked to insert but when told it was a phone payment someone else had to pay. No need for staff being rude on a Saturday night. Will not be returning in a hurry

Gorgeous fish and chips. Fresh, hot, tasty. Batter was crispy. Fish was good size. Service was great, friendly and attentive.

During a visit to Katch I was shocked at the lack of customer service from the bar staff. We did not get one smile from the 2 members of staff that were on the bar and received attitude when ordering a drink. After waiting 15 minutes to get served (the bar was not busy at all) I observed what I believe to be the bar “manager” speak very rudely to a younger member of staff shouting her over and demanding her to open a bottle of procecco, she also abruptly screamed for a food order to be taken down.

Unfriendly staff in the fish and chip takeaway section. Every question was answered with ‘haven’t you read the sign’. I’ve never been to a fish shop that charges for a wooden fork before.. Despite above, fish and chips were 6/10.

We took advantage of a change to our plans and opted to have lunch ar Katch restaurant. The choice of menu was quite extensive, clearly favouring fish dishes. The service was slick and the quality of food and its presentation was good. The bar and restaurant comprises a series of room areas which provides a set of smaller areas and hence more privacy for diners. As will be no surprise, portion sizes are well-suited for Yorkshire tastes and as a result represent excellent value for money. Certainly, well worth a visit and can be recommended.

We visited this lovely food restaurant on the 5th November 2024 after the fire works display. Our experience was not very good to start with we came in to the restaurant and was stood waiting to be given a table when to elderly couples came in to a very brash and abrupt lady who was serving behind the bar came in to the restaurant and said to the old lady had they booked a table totally ignoring me and my partner who had been there first waiting patiently for service, she told the old lady that there table was reserved with menus on and carried on down to the kitchen she then came back totally blanked me and my partner and went back to the bar. A few minutes later a very nice young man who working behind the bar came down to us apologised for the delay explained they where a member of staff down and said it had just got busy with an in flux of punters. He seated my and my partner took our drinks order and then came back with them and took our food order all through the time from seating us to give us our food to the end of the meal he was very attentive to us and all the customers that where eating. When we had finished eating I explained to him that due to the attitude of his colleague they nearly did not have our custom and what I am writing now would be a hole lot different. This place does lovely food and the young man who looked after us was fantastic and friendly. Just don’t get his female colleague

Fish and chips take out - stale, small portions. Waste of money

Had a takeaway cod, chips and curry sauce as both the White Horse and Bradley's were closed. First and last time. Disappointing, chips seemed to be of the frozen variety and tasted strange, the batter on the fish was hard and the curry wasn't very pleasant either. The place has lots of good reviews so maybe I was unlucky.

Sunday lunch overpriced tiny portions served virtually cold. Food was sent back as barely warm one teaspoon of peas two half roast potatoes tablespoon of mashed potatoes and turnip me small slice of beef. Another serving was brought everything like warm again except for potatoes and turnip which has been nuked in microwave. Refund requested instead they offered a free coffee or a free dessert which was declined. Slow service also do not go there I would need even give one star rating it would be minus one star at best.

2nd visit to katch very nice for meals

Excellent fish and chips, a lovely pot of tea with a pot of hot water also .. a great touch. The service was excellent such a friendly efficient well mannered young man. Our first visit certainly won’t be out last.

Booked in for Sunday lunch, service great with pleasant staff. Portion size shocking two tiny roast potatoes, and a desert spoon size portion of mashed potato and cabbage likewise with the mashed swede/carrot. Asked for extra potatoes and charged extra. When paying £14 elsewhere portion sizes are significantly larger

Didn't stay in the room myself but my friends were all impressed by the standard of the accommodation, the bar and dining area are very spacious and finished to a good standard. Food menu has a good selection of dishes at a reasonable price. Definitely worth a visit.

Considering the Google listing claims the place closes at 10pm, we thought it'd be a cozy pub/hotel that did food. Not that we'd be sleeping basically in a club until past 1am. Might as well be sleeping downstairs in the bar while karaoke is happening. Ear plugs did nothing to negate the bass vibrating the room. Room was clean and bed was comfy. Never again.

Have eaten in the Restaurant several times now. It's become our family's go to when in Northallerton. The Fish & chips are fantastic. Today we popped in without booking for a late lunch. We were swiftly seated. Service was fast but friendly. Meal was excellent. I can never understand why this place isn't packed. It's a bit of a hidden gem despite being on the main high street. We will definitely be back.

Call in for lunch today into the restaurant they was a young lady who was behind the counter who didnt make is feel very welcome and scowled at us we sat down .After a few minutes menu were thrown onto the table. We felt very uncomfortable and decided to leave as we weren't made welcome. Went over to Barkers Bisto and had a lovely meal . I wont ever be coming back to katch .

Booked a last minute night away here and was very pleased! Excellent service and very easy check in. Had a drink in the bar while we waited for the room (we arrived early) and decided to sample the fish and chips, absolutely beautiful! Cod was really tasty with good batter, fantastic chips and lovely mushy peas and homemade tartar sauce. Room was spotless and very comfy. Definitely will be back again soon

We didn’t use the hotel but we did go in and use the restaurant we were waited on by a lovely young man named Tim he was so polite and attractive we ordered Fish and chips and a original Parmo extras were onion rings garlic bread and bread and butter all lovely generous portions could not fault the food it was hot and so tasty we would most definitely recommend and return again

Nice enough pub restaurant but very expensive

Just had the best fish and chips we have ever had at Katch. Perfect fish, mushy peas and home made tartar sauce and the survice was brilliant. Thank you very much for our meal. Alan and Lynn

We called into this restaurant for lunch when visiting Northallerton. The restaurant is placed on the high street and was busy but the staff were really helpful and the food was really nice. Nice selection of food available.

Called in for Sunday lunch, told we would have to wait 30-40 minutes, which we said that would be OK as they were very busy. However after an hour we decided we would ask where our food was, after another 5-10 minutes it arrived. My Sunday lunch was so disappointing, lovely Yorkshire pudding, the veg was OK however the beef was very poor one small slice of beef covering another even smaller slice of dried up beef. I certainly wouldn’t recommend Sunday lunch here.

That's where the hotel reviews are left and the page is unclaimed currently by the business. My review is headed 'Really disappointing, nothing like advertised.' I had planned to eat in the restaurant during my stay, but due to the room issues and attitude of staff member I spoke with, I opted to spend my time outside of the hotel at other establishments.

This is a lovely place to visit staff are so efficient and friendly can't do enough for you to ensure you enjoy the experience Food was amazing,good price,good size portions and piping hot and well presented There is a bar area and a restaurant area where you get table service with a smile and a good atmosphere. Room was very clean and tidy. My mistake to stay on a Friday night. Live music until midnight then guys setting up outside for the market on Saturday at 4am!!!!! Not a good night's sleep unfortunately. Earplugs are provided but no good as the guys weren't very quiet outside.

Only use fantastic fish shop takeaway. Best fish .

Came in for lunch. We both had the seafood paella and weren't disappointed...lots of seafood,nice and hot. Lovely pub and super Friendly staff. As it was a nice day we then sat out the front people watching...perfect location

We had lunch here in May and the food, drinks and the furniture were all good. However, it was cold inside the pub as they had the side door open, which leads to an outside seating area and the main front door. This created a constant flow of cold air. It was 16 degrees outside at the time. It's in a nice position on the wide main street and will be a good place to sit outside and people watch when the weather is better.

Great Location, food is very good and reasonably priced. Rooms are clean and a decent size. Staff are superb and helpful. Place is lively so expect some noise in the bedrooms up to midnight. Will use again on our next visit to Northallerton.

We arrived after a 5 hour drive from Scotland to find the annual fair had set up in front of our room window! Literally. A few feet away was a huge ride with flashing lights, very loud music and a smoke machine. Any other time we probably woukd have been delighted, but not today. Otherwise, the room was great. Good size room and bathroom, well laid out and clean, though we didn't spend more than 5 minutes in it. Many come specifically for the fair and would have found a perfect location but we were just not in the mood for this unexpected celebration. We decided to press on for home. From what we could see, the bar was capacious and well appointed. The staff were lovely and bent over backwards to help. It was no fault of the hotel that we felt unable to stay and to be fair they did not have to give us a refund but did. Brief as our stay was I'd have no hesitation recommending anyone to stay but, as the manager said, it's a busy town and they can only warn of unusual events if you book directly. It's a busy town centre location perfect for those looking for a lively place with lots going on & fantastic value for the money. There is parking behind the hotel.

We only stopped to have a drink and have an early tea. Unfortunately after we had ordered our drinks and gone back to the bar to order food we were told they weren't taking orders for another 20 minutes as the chef was on her break. Its a shame this wasn't advertised as we would have gone elsewhere before ordering the drinks. The bar itself is very nicely decorated and the food smelt good. The ambiance was slightly spoiled by a group of staff having their break in the bar area talking nd complaining quite loudly, though it could have been the acoustics.

Music in bar was a bit loud for my preference. Room good size , comfy and super clean. But tiny window and radiator and shower stuck on 1 level of heat. Food was great

Unfortunately we never got to sample the food so I can't comment on that. We went in at lunchtime on market day. It was quite busy at the front so we were invited to go through to the dining room. As we went in, the young man at the bar told us to find a seat & he would be with us shortly. There were only 2 other tables occupied. We duly sat down - no menus on the tables - & waited for him to come over. He was slowly putting saucers on a tray & slowly making coffees. He then took some spoons over to one of the occupied tables & returned to the bar to continue with his saucer placing. I did see him look over at our table, but still nothing was done. After approx quarter of an hour, the manageress walked through & asked him to make 4 more coffees. At this point we decided we'd had enough, put our coats on & walked out. We walked right past him & he neither caught our eyes or offered any sort of apology. I suggest he needs a course of customer service training or the restaurant will be losing a lot of business.

We came here for some light lunch and it was really nice. It was slightly quiet but we did come on a Tuesday. The staff were friendly and service was quick. Overall I’d go back as good value for money!

Unfortunately had the worst meal ever and have been a few times. I had gammon egg pineapple and chips. the gammon was like leather and the chips looked like they had scraped the barrel. All I got was an apology

A hidden gem fish and chips amazing staff friendly and so welcoming have been visiting north allerton for years and walked right passed it is now our go to amazing quality amazing staff Clean absolutely fantastic

Went to get lunch. Arrived at2.25 om and they said they stopped serving food at 2.30 pm. The website states 3pm. Even though we we early still refused food. Shocking attitude and service and the glass was dirty. Don’t bother!!!

Stayed for 2 nights and liked it so much we wanted to stay an extra night. Unfortunately no room at the Inn. Fortunately Leanne managed to get us a room at their sister hotel the Golden Lion just a short walk away. Enjoyed our lunch. Leanne really helpful with the room and sorting taxis. Room roomy and hugh bed. Will stay again.

Not a bad plate of fish and chips, although i reckon the tartare sauce was out of a factory produced tub, but generally a decent meal.

i can only speak about the food and what we had today was exceptionally good. normally i'd never eat beef burgers but i knew their food was good from previous visits and so, when i had the deluxe burger it turned out to be the best of the best. super juicy meat, deliciously cooked and presented. this burger was to die for. my wife had the same and our friends had Cumberland sausage and the other had the coconut chicken curry, every morsel was consumed. we had a bottle of red, three pints of lager, one pint of Guinness and three americano coffees oh yes and there was a side ordered of Haloumi fries. we've been before and never been let down and we will be back. thanks guys

We (my wife and I) decided to stay in the Katch hotel on a Saturday night. The rooms were large, well lit and very clean. The bathroom and shower were OK. The temperature control was a little tricky in the shower but could be set to a nice temperature with a little bit of patience and persistence. Now, for the bad points. The rooms were very noisy, slamming doors and loud conversations internally. Externally the noise coming from the courtyard was horrific, screeching, screaming and loud drunken conversations until well after 3am. If you want a good night's sleep, go somewhere else, unless you are likely to be "clubbing" until the early hours.

Takeaway, Fish cake? Horrific, don’t order, it’s just horrible mash, couldn’t taste or see any fish in it. Burnt, and it was cooked to order, or burnt to order more accurately. A Fish cake is two slabs of potato with a fish centre, bartered and fried. This was neither fish, cake or nice.

Booked a room 3nights for our son & partner re family meet up. Unfortunately very bad accident on 17th Nov 2022. Only one hour away from Northallerton. After 3hrs waiting for police to clear motorway. Was diversion.another route re Wakefield we advised Katch we would be late checking in advised the reception. Spoke to a young person. An left a voicemail. After a long trip My Son & partner. saw no lights on at Katch tried to alert some in darkness. No night reception. Ect My Husband an Myself where booked at Allerton Court it was now 1Ipm we had a lovely message saying not to worry they will wait for us an fortunately Had an free room for our Son.! Next day no one from Katch contacted us??? We had paid!! for 3nights!! Eventually I phone them!!! They said its totally katch fault said we will getFull. Refund so at this point they where full. An my Son having to pay again for accommodation. Hence we have now too weeks later trying to get our money back via bookings. Com Katch said we was late booking in!!! unknown to Katch my sister lives in Northallerton an also had told Katch re our situation. Katch had re sold the 2nights which we had paid for.!! An will only offered us one night refund. I we take this further if a full refund is not offered for 2 nights was prepared to loose 1 night. Dissapointed in the Hotel.

Just been today, very comfortable place, great staff, very good pub grub too. Chicken royale burger and her indoors had the posh fish finger paninni. A pint and a half of v good Italian beer, a side of double fries. £27. Totally enjoyable. Thank you guys, see ya soon.

Had a large family table on a Thursday evening, accommodated the booking at very short notice. Large selection of dishes on the menu, very nice food at a good price, the fish & chips were very good and they served an off menu request no problem! great friendly staff, will definitely return
