As so many reviews testify ‘Shoal’ has to be the best fish and chip restaurant we have ever experienced. Nicely designed, clean and comfortable restaurant setting or takeaway the choice is yours. In the restaurant all the staff are friendly, chatty in a good way and helpful - after we had finished we were asked “Do you want the bill or to chill?” which is an absolute first: in so many places the bill would have appeared as a means to get us out of the door and free up the table. Food? Perfectly cooked haddock in light batter, ‘proper’ chips, minted peas and good tartare sauce. We weren’t drinking but short wine list is good by the bottle or reasonably priced glass. There are
no shortage of places to eat in Winchester and ‘Shoal’ is deservedly one of the best.
Have been to shoal many times and what is fabulous the food is as amazing every time cooked to perfection. Batter that melts on your tongue simple delicious 😋 the staff always very polite and it’s spotlessly clean . A real treat .
Most Excellent food. Discovered a new starter based on previous reviews (Piro Paneer) and also a new main (chicken shashlik) both really good, highly recommended. Definitely visit this place.
Loved this place last time I went but I felt it had gone downhill. The vegetarian breakfast I had was lukewarm and felt rushed; uncooked toast, uncooked tomatoes… also, such a stingy portion for £14. The pot of beans was gone in one mouthful! I paid a lot less at another cafe this morning for a lot better quality and much more generous portion. I didn’t feel like any care went into it, and the same with the lukewarm coffee. Pretty disappointing after a brilliant time last time.
The Square Attached St Mary & All Saints Church, England
Lovely little find on a walk around Droxford and the River Meon. Located in the village church it offers drinks, cakes and snacks. Tables and chairs outside too if the weather is kind otherwise you can sit inside. Staff very friendly and great prices too.
Got into Winchester and had an hour to kill. Found this place near the station and grabbed a coffee and a pan au chocolate - both were fantastic. Multiple plugs to charge laptops/mobiles and good wifi.
Genna set up a fantastic spread for us for my 50th. We went on a long walk and she had prepared all food for 25 for our return.
Everyone thought the food looked and tasted fantastic!
Genna could not have been more helpful or accommodating. THANK YOU.
Would definitely recommend.
We often call in here on our cycle rides for a cuppa and bacon sandwich or full English - The food is always really good and well-cooked, and the welcome warm and friendly. A superb cafe!
The Railway Inn 3 St. Pauls Hill Located In The Garden Of The Railway Inn, England
Beautiful wood fired pizza, fresh and delivered to our table. Great service and excellent menu choices. We came to The Railway Inn to see live music and were pleasantly surprised to see the pizzas on offer! Delicious
Our local cafe recently changed hands to become The Cheek Monkeys Cakery. We visited the day after the much anticipated re-opening, for a Cheeky breakfast.
The vegetarian Mega-breakfast fitted the bill (and filled the tummies!) perfectly. The food was freshly cooked and really tasty, with the plates being very full. The veggie sausages in particular had a great flavour.
The new decor is bright and fresh and the environment is comfortable and airy. The service is fine- Hayley and her colleagues are friendly and welcoming.
Subsequently to our breakfast we popped back to sample the home-baked cakes, which we'd eyed before but we're comfortably filled by our breakfast. After a light lunch we enjoyed a Crunchie flapjack and a slice of coffee & walnut cake- both of which were delicious.
There's much to recommend about the Cheeky Monkeys Cakery- well worth a visit for breakfast, lunch or just coffee and cakes with friends. Highly recommended!
Kings Corner, Botley, Southampton SO30 2HA England, England
We decided to give Tim's a go as we have been less than impressed with our other local late night food options.
The customer are was light airy and clean and behind the counter, the stainless cladding a polished to within an inch of it life. Hygiene is clearly a key focus here... So we ordered a couple of kebabs. My donner was built from precut meat which is a shame as I like the crispy bits you get from a freshly shaved kebab, but it was tasty and the salad fresh and pleantyful .
I was also saddened to see the skewer used from my wife's food was replaced by a frozen item that looked "bought in" rather than hand crafted on site.
Having said this, it all tasted excellent, was a reasonable price served by happy courteous staff.
So they have earned my repeat business. Well done.
