We were staying in the area on a very rainy day so booked in for lunch. Superb pizzas all round which were very well cooked and varied in their toppings. Great quick service and happily accommodated our two dogs.

I took a group of 22 walkers for Sunday lunch after a walk. The food was outstanding. People said it was the nicest Sunday lunch they had ever had and I have to agree. Superb service from start to finish and wonderful food. You can't go wrong if you book for lunch here. We will be back!

Went in on a Sunday afternoon as we saw the pub on our way home. So glad we did. Food was amazing. Reasonably priced too for the amount you get. Couldn’t get through it all. The young girl on the bar was lovely. She was busy but very friendly. Well worth a stop. Oh and dog friendly too.

What a gorgeous place to stay, with charming staff, a lovely room and great food. We arrived early, before check in time, but were instantly made to feel welcome. Our luggage which had been previously delivered by baggage handlers had been already taken to our room (something which we discovered very few people do, so bonus points for that). We ate a delicious lunch before retiring to our room which was clean and well supplied. There was a buzzing atmosphere in the pub at dinner time, with several other walkers, cyclists and locals and once again the food and service was excellent. Breakfast was a similar experience and we headed off for a very long day's walking feeling refreshed and happy. We would definitely recommend a stay at this charming pub; thanks to all involved in making our stay so pleasant.

We stayed here for one night as we were walking the South Downs Way, what a lovely pub/b & b this is! Clean and comfortable bedroom with on-suite bathroom, large selection of evening meals available, full-english breakfast was fabulous, all-round great service from friendly staff. Highly recommend!

We stayed here whilst walking the south downs way. It was booked for us through a walking company so we had no idea what to expect. We had a very friendly welcome and when we asked if the vegetarian meals could be made vegan they kindly fetched the chef for us, he told us exactly what was in each meal, so they couldn't be made vegan but he offered to make us something from scratch. We had a very nice sweet chilli vegetable rice dish and sorbet for dessert. We had drinks in the bar after dinner sitting amongst the locals who were very friendly and chatty, and they all brought their dogs which was great.

I knew as soon as I spoke to Nicki on the phone - that all would be well with the accommodation. Nothing was too much trouble, and she was happy to take early delivery and late collection of our luggage, as we were walking the first two sections of the South Downs Way. We stayed on a particularly cold day, and the landlord was happy to offer a space heater to boost the heat in our room.He offered us a flask of fresh milk for our tea, and a table had been reserved for supper, as it was a particularly busy night. The food was very tasty and beautifully presented. My risotto was one of the best I have ever tasted, and I'd love to return to try something else from the menu.Nicki cooked us a good English breakfast, and we even had porter service of cases to the car, when we returned to pick up our luggage.

This was the first hotel that we stayed in whilst walking the South Downs Way as they had kindly agreed to take delivery of our bags from our baggage company. Despite it having a Greene King sign outside this pub it serves good food and cask ales from other independent breweries (as it does not have to sell specific Greene King beers) in fact the locals are asked to pick which ales they want to try. The interior décor is clean, smart and modern and is very popular with the locals. You don’t have to wait long to be served your food, but I suggest you book a table in advance as it gets busy. The staff are very helpful and friendly and they advised us on the beers on offer and how they were sourced, you get a really good vibe about the pub. The rooms are also clean and smartly decorated (nice toiletries, variety of tea bags) , ours included a bath and a strong shower, comfy bed and was very quiet considering you are right over the bar area. Breakfast was also very good. Would we stay here again if I was in this area? “Absolutely”.

Stayed here after our first and very hot days walking on the South Downs Way. The rooms were fairly plain but were clean and spacious enough for us and our bags which is not always the case. The food for the evening meal was delicious and the pub was almost full to capacity with diners which is a testament to the quality of the food. Service was good and friendly. After a good nights sleep we were served a very hearty breakfast and provided with a decent packed lunch for our days walking. All in all a very enjoyable stay.

A lovely village pub, which we have not visited for several years. There is a relaxed atmosphere not spoiled by loud music or other distractions. The service is as good as ever and the staff are very welcoming, friendly and efficient. There is a good choice of food and drink and prices are quite reasonable. There was adequate parking even though the pub was fairly busy on a mid week evening. I suspect that booking might be necessary at weekends.

Two of us stayed here on our first day of the SDW. I had stayed alone last year and the pub was as good as it was then. A lovely, welcoming atmosphere provided by Nicky and staff as well as good food from local ingredients. The breakfast was superb and she provided us a packed lunch. This pub is in a beautiful setting and is perfect for the SDW. If I lived nearer it would be my local.

The four of Us stopped for the night on our South Downs Way trek. We had a nice warm welcome and shown to our rooms. They were of good size, comfortable and clean. The en suite with bath/shower was clean with plenty of hot water and toiletries. The evening meals were delicious washed down with a choice of good ales. A good nights sleep in comfortable beds (expect a bit of light noise from the bar, it is a pub after all) and in the morning a great full English breakfast freshly cooked. You can order a good packed lunch if you require one. It's about 15 - 20 mins back to the SDW so I would recommend this as a Great Stopover.

My husband, 2 year old son and I went to The Bucks Head for Fathers day lunch. I drive past The Bucks Head most days on route to and from work but have never stopped. I decided to book a table for fathers day so I could treat my husband to a nice trip out to the countryside. The Bucks Head had a lovely friendly atmosphere. The staff were so friendly and helpful....for example, anyone with young kids will know that trying to keep a 2 year old occupied is a task, but the lovely waitress brought over some books for him to look at once we'd exhausted all his usual toys (we didn't ask, she just came over and offered them to us) and then when our starters came out, again the nice waitress offered us a handful of chips for our son so he wasn't without. I was so pleasantly surprised by this service. The food when it did arrive was very yummy....very large portions!! Once we'd finished our meal out son decided to mess his nappy (typical!) and when I asked the staff if there were any baby changing facilities they apologised that none had been fitted during the referb but instead offered me access to one of the B&B; bedrooms to change him. I thought this was so kind of them. As a family we were made to feel so welcome and we will definitely return.

Our small group of walkers had a fabulous evening meal here. Sharing fish platters, steak and ale pie, crab pate were all greatly appreciated and the vegetarian goat's cheese tart was described as truly outstanding. We ordered before we went off for the walk and it was all brought to our table by the friendly staff as soon as we had settled. Encouraged by this, most of us ordered desserts which were also lovely, and I can particularly recommend the Bakewell Tart with a beautifully light topping.

The new refurbishment is clean and fresh and the staff were very friendly just the sandwiches were disappointing. The baguettes were very brittle which spoilt the sandwiches. A slightly better quality baguette would have made all the difference. I will come again as I have only visited once since the refurbishment.
