Love this pub, totally unpretentious. Fairly priced, nice food, friendly staff, great service.

Well run, good ales, clean and tidy pub with open fire and is dog friendly. A menu change has recently been introduced that has less of a homemade, more bought-in feel. I wanted to order a steak, but they don't include it on the new menu. Having said that... The food is still very good, I tried the beef and mushroom suet pudding, which was excellent. Recommended.

Had a fabulous Sunday lunch here today. The roasts were great , proper home cooked with great veg accompaniments. Great service. Will return !

Food brilliant... Steak and Guinness pie was excellent came with chips and veg, can not complain.... Plenty of gravy. Beer was OK, for down south 😂🍻🍻🍻. Would call again if local.

OK, repeat offended. We love this place, it's warm, friendly and cosy. Food is lovely as always! The open fire was a godsend on a cold night too. We book a table regularly and the staff k ow us now, which makes it even nicer to stay and spend !! ;) the apple pie tart was particularly good !

Boxing Day Family meal was great. Lovely food, great service and a fantastic atmosphere. Will be coming back.

As a disabled person accessibility getting in an inside the venue was an issue. I felt reassurred I would be able to get in and out and their be no restrictions as on their website they universal image of a person in a wheelchair, and indicated assessible entry. There is a narrow ramp leading to the rear entrance of the venue. However at the top there is a tight right angled turn to a door that opens outwards onto the ramp. I had a walker, but it was a tight fit getting past my friend who had to open the door so I could get in. A motorised wheelchair use would definitely struggle, as there is not enough room to navigate the tight turn in the decking which is just wide enough to accommodate a chair. There are no accessible toilets. They can only be accessed up 2 small steps. The toilets are low and in narrow cubicle, and there are no handrail. I'm fortunate enough to be able to walk a few steps unaided, but I didn't feel safe. I had to leave my walker outside. However, the food and service I could not be faulted. There was a lovely cosy atmosphere. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The service was top notch. The food was also amazing. A lot of care and effort was put into cooking and presenting of the food. Sadly I have to cross the venue off my places to eat out. Purely due to accessibility. Which is a huge shame as this venue ticks all the boxes otherwise. Thank you for a lovely Christmas meal. Throughly enjoyed it.

Excellent food, exceptional friendly service, and that local pub atmosphere. Despite having christmas bookings, they managed to fit 3 of us in to an hour long window but invited us to sit in the heated pods outside once we were done. After an hour, we were told of free tables inside where we continued with the nice selection of beers and ciders. Overall, a highly recommended pub for a meal and a few drinks.

Fantastic xmas lunch great service fabulous food and plenty of it.

Met up with 3 friends for our Christmas dinner, the food was amazing, all home cooked. There was loads of nice fresh meat, roast potatoes, broccoli florets, broad beans, Brussel sprouts, red cabbage and roast parsnips, stuffing and pigs in blankets. We had 3 courses for £30, definitely value for money.

I just love the Sunday roast at The Red Lion. We have been back numerous times as we always know we will get a good meal. We usually book the pods outside. Even in November when we went recently they are warm and cosy as they have outdoor heating and lighting. Portions are generous and good value. The vegetarian options are decent also as one of our number has that. Really worth a visit.

Another excellent lunch, beautiful surroundings & attentive staff. Cannot fault the meals, Mum & I had the specials.. LOVE the festive Burger. Even my friends husband who was taxi driver for the day stopped by for a drink, and remarked on how lovely & traditional the bar is. Mac & his team never fail to make us feel welcome. This busy venue deserves every success.

Red Lion Southwick is just Wow! It’s my Sunday dinner place. Historical Beautiful countryside pub, lovely staff like Kathryn, others are also too good. Sublime Gourmet food, I generally prefer homemade Sunday roast brimming with nice vegetables, highly recommend. For afters sticky sponge with apple and cinnamon, it’s fabulous. Don’t miss if you love countryside pub.

Often visit this pub for a meal. On this occasion very disappointing menu. For example, No chicken on menu, only one vegetarian option which was a Balti Pie. Nothing like the busy pub we have visited before. Perhaps others feel as we do about this menu? Overall, for the first time not sure if we will bother visiting again

Gorgeous pub food, great service and lovely atmosphere.

Fantastic food and service. Starters we had French Onion Soup and Halloumi. Delicious. Maine: The steak pie was absolutely packed with meat and the sausages mustard mash was delicious. Drinks great. Service wonderful. For a Tuesday night it was busy and you can totally see why. We’ve visited before in the summer and would recommend all seasons. Fire was on on Tuesday which was lovely 🥰 10000000% recommend Please ignore my sausage and mash, I was about to add beans to it too! (Sorry not sorry!)

Had lunch here today after a walk with a local walking group around Southwick. Friendly staff and delicious fish and chips. Would highly recommend the Red Lion and hope to be back to try another delicious meal off the menu. Thank you.

Unfortunately the place was just closing when we arrived at 21.45. However we were allowed to stay overnight in the car park in our Motorhome.

Great atmosphere with good food and drinks. We were a party of 9 seated for a birthday celebration meal. The menu and food was good and we were made welcome, attended to by friendly staff. I will definitely visit again.

Beautiful independent pub, nicely kept like a village pub should be, lovely historical decorations to pay homage to the history of the village.menu offered home cooked food and a blackboard of specials fitting for the season where hot stomach warming food is a must, the homemade pie and steak chilli perfect , excellent friendly courteous staff, even when met by very challenging customers. We will definitely return to no doubt sample the well talked about roast. Well done all.

Terrible experience with service and very limited "stripped back" menu choices. This pub used to be good on service and food - no longer. NO salad or steak options on the menu. Manager admitted menu was changed two days ago. That was the 24th September 2024. Another Fullers pub that has been wreaked by management . We will never go there again. Why serve teaspoons to eat dessert with then give customers a strange look when they ask for a dessert spoon and a fork !!!!

Very good food, staff and amazing lunch with friends. Definitely will go again staff couldn't be more help, thanks to the landlord for the very hot latte!

Had a very lovely Sunday roast here, we were in outside pod/shed but it was lovely and didn't feel left out of pub as staff still very attentive

Had a wonderful time in The Red Lion Southwick, a pub with a lot of atmosphere in a very historical, and pretty Hampshire village. Plenty of choice on the menu to suit all palates , similarly plenty to choose from the 'wet sales' menu. Table service a bonus. Had a hick up in the ordering, sometimes these things happen in a busy establishment, and thank you to the Manager who dealt with and 'squared away' that issue. Happy to recommend The Red Lion, and the Sausage Roll starter! I am looking forward to a return visit. Thank you The Red Lion team. Kind regards. Harry.

Friendly staff. Lovely food. I have had the ploughman's 3 times now, every mouthful is absolutely delicious, even the salad.

Charming pub with excellent food. Parking can be difficult in busy times but we've always found a space. The outside seating area is lovely on a sunny day. Would recommend.

Never been before. We sat in the cabin out back at our request. Luckily, 4 of our guests couldn't make it due to car trouble, I don't think the staff would have been able to get in and out of the door if all seats were taken. It was a chilly day, but we managed without putting the heater on. The staff were very friendly and most of the table enjoyed their food. I didn't, the £18 beef burger really was a 2" deep chunk of overcooked minced beef. Thankfully, the chips were decent. The worst thing I noticed was how dirty the glasses were. I won't go back for that reason. Basic hygiene. The others at the table had no complaints, though, so perhaps I'm just fussy.... I'm giving it overall 3 stars.

A proper local pub with good home made food

Great pub food, we had the special, chicken and bacon suet pudding, absolutely massive! Couldn't do it proper justice and had to give up!! Chicken full of good quality meat. Had the squid starter which was also very good, can't think of having better anywhere, certainly on par with the best I've had and I'm quite fussy and hate getting a chewy one, this was great. Price group includes starter, main and drinks and well deserved tip

We visited as a family of 6 last week. The food is really nice and well presented. Staff are friendly. However, the prices I feel are very expensive. The burger came out on a rectangle plate with some chips and that was it. What about onion rings or a side salad also? £17.95,Least bulk it up a bit. Pie was a good size with loads of potatoes and vegetable which was also expensive £18.95 I had a small ham and chips and egg and mine was larger than the burger meal. So a nice place to eat but if there is a few of you going, I would be careful on how much the prices are. Not sure if we would go back again. Think you need to review your food prices.

Been here alot! Fantastic food! Brilliant for a roast dinner on a Sunday or a midweek dinner or lunch. Food quality is excellent and service is great definitely go here!

What an excellent meal and a lovely experience we had yesterday in this charming pub . Right from the start everything was just right. Our drinks were taken and we were informed of the seating and service for outside. We sat outside in the beautiful pod in the late summer sunshine . Our order was taken and the food arrived swiftly.what a surprise when it came ! Fish and chips were fantastic something that is not normally the case nowadays excellent large cod cooked to perfection just as it should be The ploughman’s. Oh my word…. some came home with us ! Plenty of cheeses fresh rolls lovely tangy salad beautiful good quality ham and a sausage roll that I was so impressed by but couldn’t eat all of some of it came home too ! All in all a trip that we shall definitely make again thank you to all especially the chef!!! Excellent

Lovely pub with several different areas from cosy inside, outside sheds, patio area and a lovely big beer garden. Stop on the way to Portsmouth for a drink and food. Beef and Guiness pie was fabulous. Friendly staff and dog friendly. Will be visiting again next time we are passing.

Brilliant friendly pub loved it 😁

We visited today in the middle of a bike ride, on a glorious summer Sunday. All the garden pods were booked, but we were encouraged to use one until the booking time. We only wanted some snacks so ordered some starters and some sides. We massively over ordered, or, more accurately, the portions were generous. I really wanted to try the cherry meringue desert, but was too full. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. Would recommend.

Had the most delicious roast dinner here. Everything was cooked perfectly and the amount we had was phenomenal that we had to ask for carry out containers. The staff were lovely and nothing was to trouble . Highly recommend this establishment, well done, will definitely eat here again, thank you.

"We stumbled upon a hidden Gem" last night. Impulsively booking a table turned out to be a fantastic decision! The pub boasts a welcoming atmosphere with friendly and attentive staff. The place was spotless, from the dining area to the impressive clean toilets, which is always a good sign. The menu, though concise, offered a delicious selection of classic pub fare. We opted for Steak and Ale Pie which was cooked to perfection. Generous portions and flavor full ingredients made for a nice meal and all for a very fair price as well. Given the popularity, it's no surprise the place was packed on a Saturday night. Luckily, we managed to snag an early table. The Red Lion has a convenient car park and a lovely outdoor space with a play area, perfect for families. We're already looking forward to returning so we can try the “Fish and Chips” next time. Only wish that we could give “6 stars” it was that nice.

We went to the red lion during the week. It was extremely busy but nothing was too much trouble for the staff. They were extremely attentive . They have beautiful outside pods which are heated and a lovely garden with a play area. We all ate starters and mains and every dish was excellent. We will be back and have told all our friends about this beautiful village pub

Visited today at lunchtime 11/7/24. Table prebooked for 12.30pm and arrived there at 12.15pm. At that time not a lot of people inside but we waited 1hour 15 mins for our food and found that at least 12 people who came in after us ,had their meals before us.! While we waited for our meals we asked 3 times when they would be coming.One of the meals ordered was a toasted sandwich which came untoasted,the rest only required chips and eggs to be cooked.

Arrived for booked table for 5. After being shown to the table the waiter left. Went find staff after 35 minute wait but still none came. After 45 minutes I went inside and asked a waiter (on her phone) to come and take our order and had not had a drink. I think that’s being over tolerant but it was Sunday. Eventually drinks arrived but food took another 40 minutes. Average food, over priced and abhorrent service. Will not consider re-visit. No apologies at any time and no discount offered for poor poor service. Little gold mine if they sorted out the staff responsibilities. Shocking!!!!!!!!

Came here again for food today and the restaurant was very busy but as we had the kids we decided to sit in there lovely garden out the back with the small play area. Our little boy loves it here and it means he can play and we can sit near him and enjoy a drink and some food. The food was lovely and great quality. The hog roast bap was amazing and definitely worth the price. Really great place to come especially if you want a nice clean pub garden with great food.

So we went to the wonderful D-day revival. We go every year and go to this pub. But unfortunately this weekend 9/6/24 we went about 12 for a drink. Asll ok. Then we went back about 2 for another (exactly the same drinks) and the woman behind the bar added about £4 on then what we had paid before !!!! I questioned this as suddenly it was corrected !! They did not have to charge over the odd as they were so busy Sunday and the Saturday before. It's disgusting especially as I can guess alot of people were over charged !!!

Great place to eat out, all our meals were different and each person said their dish was excellent. Good range of beverages and staff were pleasant.

Went to this lovely pub with my mum, sisters and son over the bank holiday weekend. From the very beginning it was fantastic. Very warm and welcoming. The service was brilliant throughout. Particularly Mel who was great with my very hungry (boarderling hangry) son. We all felt really well looked after and the food was 10/10. It was well priced, generous portions and delicious. A great pub in every way, and will be going back again and again. Thank you Red Lion for giving us all an amazing experience!

My partner & I were invited to dinner here for the first time with our friends. We sat in a garden pod, which had lights & heater to keep us warm & content. The food is amazing, pudding was enjoyed also & the boys decided to enjoy a trip down the top shelf whiskeys which they enjoyed a lot. Great atmosphere. Great food. Great staff. Would thoroughly recommend. I had the chicken, leek and Shropshire blue cheese on croute which was delicious. Special praise to Matt who couldn’t do enough for my disabled daughter.

God choice of beers. Food oriented pub but still able to have a few beers if food isn't your thing! Don't miss the ploughman's lunch anytime of day. Make sure you're hungry as it's amazing in portion size and quality.

We had an early supper. Such a friendly warm welcome and the food was absolutely superb. We didn't leave a scrap! Highly recommend and hope to visit this beautiful pub again.

We have been to the Red Lion a few times and it is quite an exceptional place to go. We go with work colleagues and the service is fantastic - Consistently going above and beyond for us. My steak and ale pie was sublime, fantastic quality and taste matched with fresh veg, mash and gravy. My bread and butter pudding was not so good, way too much chocolate, no sultanas and made with fresh bread, not stale bread and not classic butter pudding in my opinion. Edited to say I overheard someone ordering b&b pudding and ordered accordingly without checking the menu for a description

Wow what a fantastic place, service was fantastic, everyone was happy, friendly and everyone was so helpful they all go above and beyond. We were visiting family who had previously had a meal at the red lion and had great food when they visited, so we went and had x3 ploughman’s and ham, egg & chips. The food was fantastic I wish I had taken a photo because it was the best ploughman's I have ever had and the sausage roll, all home made was a meal in itself, it was superb, there were 3 types of pickles, slaw, red cabbage, x2 rolls which were warm and the cheese’s were the best I have ever had & salad, if I lived in Hampshire I would be there every week. I am back in December and will be visiting again. Thank you all so much.

The food was at best mediocre, there were hairs on the plate, the gravy was cold and the vegetables undercooked, the waitress was impatient and the lad Matt was downright rude. There were six of us in the dinner group and as this pub had been recommended it was a disappointment, even the London Pride beer was cloudy. Won't go there again and won't be recommending it

Since we found this place, we have returned a few times. We have not been disappointed in any of our visits. Good food, good atmosphere and reasonably quick service.

Been coming here for years and the Steak and Ale pie will always be a winner. Try it and you wont regret it. On top of this the staff are friendly and very helpful. A great pub and also very dog friendly!

Amazing pub, the staff are quality,friendly and professional and will always try to accommodate. Food is A+++++ Dog friendly The 2 blokes at the bar with the dogs make the pub (so funny) Always a pleasure to eat here. And pie week is a must.

Lovely evening with a great understanding of gluten free intolerance. Food was absolutely delicious GF and normal ! Warm welcome from Charlie, what a great host with a lovely sense of humour, I could have sat with him all night !! Brilliant little country pub. A great family and dog friendly little gem tucked away in a hamlet. I had the pie and mash and it was phenomenal. Loads of steak, gravy and mashed potato. The desert, crumble with custard (obviously) was fantastic. And all very reasonably priced.

We are regular visitors to the Red Lion and this visit was just as good as it always is, the Staff are extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble. There is a great selection on the menu and the food was as excellent as always. We will definitely keep coming back because if it's a really good friendly country pub you are looking for The Red Lion is difficult to beat.

Very friendly and efficient service, we were a table of 12 that hadn't booked. Whilst the pub was completely full on a weekday they managed to accommodate us for a weekday lunch and we sat outside in a heated cabin which was very comfortable and had some very decent pub grub. Might be a good idea to book ahead :)

We descended on mass, ten of us , after our 5 mile walk today with no pre booking, but although they were busy they found room for us The service and food were very good Thanks especially to Mel and Keely who served us they were brilliant all smiles and very accommodating Definitely recommend and will call in again Thank you

We have visited here numerous over the years, and it has become our go to for nice evenings and great food. Of all of our trips, Saturday was our worst in terms of quality of food, the food sadly at best was average, staff were no were near as attentive as normal, we even had to get up and ask for menus at one point, the Drinks orders and food orders were correct though, however, should we return, if it was the same again we wouldn't use it again. a really disappointment given how good it has been over the years.

Nine of us met for a family lunch. The service as always was very efficient and friendly and the food serves really good pub grub. There are also Specials on the board for something a bit different. This is the second time we have visited in 2023 and it's been consistently good.

The biggest ploughman’s! Very impressive. Service always super friendly which makes a huge difference thank you :)
