Great pub, lots of outside space, food was delicious!

My steak and ale pie was sublime, fantastic quality and taste matched with fresh veg, mash and gravy. My bread and butter pudding was not so good, way too much chocolate, no sultanas and made with fresh bread, not stale bread and not classic butter pudding in my opinion.

Food is always great, usually our go to for a work pub lunch!

Wow what a fantastic place, service was fantastic, everyone was happy, friendly and everyone was so helpful they all go above and beyond. We were visiting family who had previously had a meal at the red lion and had great food when they visited, so we went and had x3 ploughman’s and ham, egg & chips. The food was fantastic I wish I had taken a photo because it was the best ploughman's I have ever had and the sausage roll, all home made was a meal in itself, it was superb, there were 3 types of pickles, slaw, red cabbage, x2 rolls which were warm and the cheese’s were the best I have ever had & salad, if I lived in Hampshire I would be there every week. I am back in December and will be visiting again. Thank you all so much.

The food was at best mediocre, there were hairs on the plate, the gravy was cold and the vegetables undercooked, the waitress was impatient and the lad Matt was downright rude. There were six of us in the dinner group and as this pub had been recommended it was a disappointment, even the London Pride beer was cloudy. Won't go there again and won't be recommending it

Since we found this place, we have returned a few times. We have not been disappointed in any of our visits. Good food, good atmosphere and reasonably quick service.

Been coming here for years and the Steak and Ale pie will always be a winner. Try it and you wont regret it. On top of this the staff are friendly and very helpful. A great pub and also very dog friendly!

Lovely evening with a great understanding of gluten free intolerance. Food was absolutely delicious GF and normal ! Warm welcome from Charlie, what a great host with a lovely sense of humour, I could have sat with him all night !! Brilliant little country pub. A great family and dog friendly little gem tucked away in a hamlet. I had the pie and mash and it was phenomenal. Loads of steak, gravy and mashed potato. The desert, crumble with custard (obviously) was fantastic. And all very reasonably priced.

We are regular visitors to the Red Lion and this visit was just as good as it always is, the Staff are extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble. There is a great selection on the menu and the food was as excellent as always. We will definitely keep coming back because if it's a really good friendly country pub you are looking for The Red Lion is difficult to beat.

Very friendly and efficient service, we were a table of 12 that hadn't booked. Whilst the pub was completely full on a weekday they managed to accommodate us for a weekday lunch and we sat outside in a heated cabin which was very comfortable and had some very decent pub grub. Might be a good idea to book ahead :)

We descended on mass, ten of us , after our 5 mile walk today with no pre booking, but although they were busy they found room for us The service and food were very good Thanks especially to Mel and Keely who served us they were brilliant all smiles and very accommodating Definitely recommend and will call in again Thank you

We have visited here numerous over the years, and it has become our go to for nice evenings and great food. Of all of our trips, Saturday was our worst in terms of quality of food, the food sadly at best was average, staff were no were near as attentive as normal, we even had to get up and ask for menus at one point, the Drinks orders and food orders were correct though, however, should we return, if it was the same again we wouldn't use it again. a really disappointment given how good it has been over the years.

Nine of us met for a family lunch. The service as always was very efficient and friendly and the food serves really good pub grub. There are also Specials on the board for something a bit different. This is the second time we have visited in 2023 and it's been consistently good.

We went here on a Wednesday night its deceiving as it looks like there is no parking but there is a car park behind the pub.The inside of the pub is old country style we had booked a table the time in between being sitted to being first drinks dishes was really good.The food looked really nice but it was very average tasting the cheeseburger I had looked nice but had no real taste.Staff weren't the most friendliness but just polite enough to serve.The ladies toilets were abit bizarre as you had to walk past a table that was only a foot away from the door.This is a nice pub but we wouldn't go here again

Great food, traditional pub with a RAF theme going on. Just dropped in on a Wednesday lunch time and was surprised at how busy it was but now having sampled the menu I can see why. Good food, pleasant service traditional pub surroundings.

No Question about it, best place in Hampshire. Need melts in mouth, friendly staff, nice atmosphere, cosy, great smell of other foods to try, and the homemade ice cream was superb! Definitely visiting again!

Have to say I wasn’t expecting the food to be so good. Best home cooked burger meal I’ve had for a long big time and my wife prawn/salmon linguine was great too. Great Beer and a good band too to seal a really good night. So nice to have some quality food for a change. Great stall as well

EDIT We have now visited a few times and each time the food was delicious. Today my husband and I had the Sunday roast and we both loved it. We still have not managed to have a pudding yet as the meals are so filling. This was our first visit we had a delicious meal, with lovely and friendly staff we will definitely visit again.

Garlic prawns starter was delicious and option to have a small main course ideal , excellent service, will definitely be dining there again.

The red lion southwick, wow! What a bloody lovely country pub! The staff were incredible and nothing was too much for them, the portions were extremely generous and the food was home cooked, piping hot and super super tasty! The log fire and back ground music just added to the most perfect evening! Cannot wait to come back and enjoy and evening child free! Thank you to all the team at the red lion xx

Wonderful pub in a lovely setting. The food is deicious and a good selection of ales. Very good service and a great atmosphere. Very busy for lunch on a tuesday and I would advise booking ahead as it is clearly popular! Will be back for sure

First ever year going out for Christmas lunch and could not have asked for anything better. Lovely staff and fantastic food. Well done everyone and thank you from the Woollaston family.

This lovely pub has become our go to for the last few months, we have been at least once a week, the service is amazing, always perfect, and until today, the food has been outstanding, i chose the mint and lamb suet pudding as I had it before and it was divine, my sister had the same on my recommendation, sadly, this time it was very different, I'd say at a guess, the lamb was left over from Sunday, it looked very different from the first time I had it, the suet was pure white and flavourless, it was so thick it was hard to eat, the first time I had it the suet was thin, tasty and had a little colour to it. My other sister had fish and chip, the fish was thin and over cooked, so where the peas, she left half of it. The crumbles where only just warm and the chocolate bread and butter pudding had been over cooked and had very little custard. I'm so disappointed as we went there on my recommendation and it was not the best experience today.

Always good food, plenty of it at a good price. Attentive staff. Warm and cosy if you get a fireside spot.

Had a Christmas party meal last night with work friends. The food was absolutely amazing, everyone enjoyed the food so much, easily the best Xmas meal I've had out! Thank you 😊

Good food, good beer, good service. A little on the expensive side - expecially for lunch.

Lovely festive meal, food always great here. But lost a star as asked to move to empty table to finish drinks (1.5hr from sitting) straight after finishing dessert as another booking due in. Also no offer of coffee after moving tables. Fab food thou, maybe next time ice cream or cream with brownie as a bit dry without. Would not let this put me off returning, but maybe seat people where they can eat and finish drinks in a timely manner😊

I go out for lunch regularly in the region and the Red Lion is by far the best. It was our first time but it will now never be our last. The menu offers a large varied selection and Sarah and the rest of the staff are all friendly and efficient. The log fire is a welcome addition. If you've never been I recommend it extremely highly. The food is delicious!! Thank you everybody!!

We had a lovely Sunday roast here yesterday. It was very busy but staff were really friendly even though they were rushed off their feet and service was good.

Three of us had a lovely meal here sat out in one of their Eco pods, which has an electric heater overhead to keep you warm. Service was really good: attentive, well paced and friendly. They were hosting a retirement party which started while we were there and inside the pub was full! Even this didn’t affect the service we received! The car park was virtually empty when we arrived at 12:30 on a half term weekday, but was overflowing when we left, due to the party. There is some additional parking out in the streets though. The menu was lovely and varied, and all three courses were delicious. I’d highly recommend this pub for a meal.

Took my 87 yr old Mum here for birthday lunch. Staff couldn’t have been nicer. No problem for her to have the child’s portion and they even let her have a lolly despite not finishing her dinner! Our meals were good too, v generous portions....

Me, my Mother and Father came to The Red Lion for a late lunch on Tuesday. The pub is located in a little village. The food was outstanding, the best pie I have tasted, and the pub itself felt like it had so much history. We had a wonderful pregnant lady serving us (unfortunately, we didn’t get her name) but she made our day, she made us laugh from start to finish. A lovely young lady joined her on shift and they both made our experience so joyful. We have not had service like that for ages. We will most certainly be doing the drive from Devon to visit This place again.

Had a few beers on a sunny Tuesday afternoon. Sat in the garden which wasn’t busy - it was just nice and relaxing. Staff were friendly and all in all it was a good way to spend a lazy afternoon. Noted that this pub is open all day midweek as opposed to the golden lion (also a nice pub) just up the road is shut in the midweek afternoon.

*** Update *** We went for a meal on Saturday night. Can't rate the food here highly enough. The portions were large, very tasty and came out piping hot. Prices were very reasonable and as with our previous visit the staff were very helpful and friendly. Great friendly pub in the middle of Southwick village not far from Portsmouth. Staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked through the door. Prices were very reasonable. We didn't have food but the meals that were coming out looked good. Will be back again soon.
