Delicious food. Wonderful, friendly staff and service and super comfortable rooms. We are three childhood friends who, now in our 50’s, meet up often for a night away. We couldn’t have asked for more. Staff are so helpful and kind and we were actively encouraged to linger over the most incredible tasty breakfast, with tea topped up and lots of suggestions for local places to explore. The Fox is a real find and we will definitely return. Thank you all for a super stay!

We had a really enjoyable and relaxing meal at The Fox. We had chateubriand steak for two people which came with chips, grilled tomatoes, creamy garlic mushrooms and a sauce of your choice. The steak fillet was huge, perfectly cooked and tender. The Stilton sauce was delicious. I couldn’t fault the food at all. The staff were really friendly. For pudding we had blackberry soufflé which was perfectly light and fluffy. The lemon sorbet was perfectly tart yet creamy. Probably the best sorbet I’ve ever had. All in all a fantastic meal and I would definitely go again.

Had a lovely lunch here with my wife as the décor of the restaurant, the quality, presentation, and taste of the food was excellent. We both had the pie and it was delicious. The table service was also very good (thanks Isabelle). Prices were a little higher than average for a 2 course pub lunch with one drink, coming to £64 It was very nice though, and I would certainly recommend a meal here. Quiet, classy and relaxing.

After a nice walk around Chilbolton, birthday lunch for my wife at the Fox. Really nicely modernised with a good range of drinks and lovely staff. We all had different roast dinners which were all great with lovely veg. Deserts - a lovely fruit crumble and a gorgeous vanilla cheesecake❤️ all washed down with Malbec - what could be better??!!

Hi Guys, I would like every one who reads this to go and experiance the exceptional standard of The FOX . It was my first occasion and being a stickler for checking the overall establishment. I can tell you that you would not be disapointed. Yes there was one point. The barman on arrival was a bit grumpy, not friendly to greet customers. The cleanliness of the restaurant was excellent even the toilets were especially clean. The service overall was friendly, helpful and above all warm and caring. Overall i give this a 9/10. Ps . i never give a ten. Keith.

Wow, what a wonderful find. I had a three course meal last night with some old friends and it was honestly the best meal I’ve had in a long time. Excellent food and excellent service. What has happened to this pub? It used to be quite good but we really had the most terrible dinner on Saturday 29th June. The evening started off badly when we called at 7.45pm to let the restaurant know that we were on the way and running 15 minutes late for our 8pm booking We were told by the manager that last orders were at 8.15pm (this was a Saturday night) and we would have 5 minutes to place our orders when we got there. We had booked an outside table, when we arrived the whole restaurant was only half full and no tables were laid at all outside. There was a rush to provide some cutlery for 5 people, we were a party of 6, by an indifferent waitress. Which did not feel very welcoming. Two of us ordered the butternut squash risotto. It arrived tepid and resembled soft porridge, tasted of nothing and had absolutely no seasoning at all. A disaster..the chef is a disgrace. The staff should be ashamed. I shall not be eating there again.

Wonderful Sunday lunch, excellent beef, cooked perfectly (my son said the pork was delicious too). Great accompaniments, including roast potatoes and parsnip, Yorkshire pudding, really excellent gravy, (very tasty and perfect consistency), green vegetables and of course cauliflower cheese, it’s just not Sunday lunch without cauliflower cheese! We shared two puddings between 3 of us, very good pannacotta and apple & rhubarb crumble. The service was attentive, friendly and fast. The decor is light and airy, yet warm and welcoming. I’d wanted to visit The Fox for a long time and I certainly wasn’t disappointed! I couldn’t fault it, so it has to be 5 stars 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Portion size for rocket, beetroot and goats cheese is woeful. This dish comes as a starter or main course. It was our 1st wedding anniversary and we decided to treat ourselves visiting The Fox. We were welcomed by the lovely Carlos, who showed us to our room, The Stockbridge. It was a beautiful room, decorated with delightful designer furnishings which gave it a very homely feel. There was a fridge with fresh milk, the tea tray was loaded with a variety of yummy biscuits as opposed to just one packet between two, a lovely selection of teas and a nespresso machine for coffee. Small luxury touches of essential oil toiletries, thick cosy white towels and glass bottles of water were a lovely surprise. There was a huge fan, a DAB Bluetooth radio, loaf sofa bed, Bosch Iron and hairdryer. The food was out of this world and cooked to perfection, we had home made scotch eggs for starters, the line caught fish & chips and Waygu beef burger for main and poached pear for dessert and because it was our anniversary the staff decorated a plate with white chocolate and fresh fruit spelling out ‘Happy Anniversary’ this was a lovely touch. The breakfast was just what needed after a little too much Gin and champagne, we had fresh pastries, full cooked breakfast and plenty of warm toast. Tina, who served us, was full of helpful and historical knowledge of the area and surroundings giving us loads of ideas with what to do! All of the staff were so welcoming, friendly and attentive making you feel like the only people there even though the pub was packed! This is our new favourite place and we will definitely be going back to stay! Thank you Foxy staff for making our weekend so special! See you very soon! Shellie & Matthew Barnes-McKay

We ate at the Fox on the 10/09/21 to celebrate our 42nd wedding anniversary. We ordered the 30 day dry cured Hampshire Cote De Boeuf x2 , which was delicious. However, the miserly portion of one portion of chips and one portion of green salad between 2 that came with meal was embarrassing and took the shine off the meal. Come on chiefs at the Fox salad and chips cost nothing.

Staying in the village we booked The Fox for our first evening meal. The area is stunning and The Fox is architecturally beautiful. The bar area is cosy and the choice of local beers very good. Bar service was friendly and efficient. We were given menus while we waited and were at our table on time. The food was exceptional. I started with the potted shrimp and my wife a crab, prawn and avocado salad and we both had the brill as a mains. All washed down with a wonderful bottle of Albariño. We shared a huge cheeseboard, this was a memory to savour as well as a reminder how great eating out when as good as this is a joy. Great ambiance, quiet unfussy service and good food in one place is a pleasure.

We did visit a few years ago, and really enjoyed it but felt they needed to settle into a bit before returning. We had heard nothing but rave reviews from friends and family so booked a few weeks ago for a Saturday night supper. We had also seen the Chef owner on James Martins Saturday show so thought we might see James as well. The quality of the food was superb, grilled Scottish langoustines were like little lobsters and such a delight, the Cote de boeuf was melt in the mouth and the desserts were just as excellent, especially the trio of chocolate that looked like it could have been on Masterchef. Service was great, super friendly and spot on with lots of great knowledge. Will highly recommend to others. Did not see James but can see why this is his favourite pub for food.

Highly recommend a visit to this great pub. Went for the first time last night and it definitely wont be the last. What really stood out, apart from the scrumptious food, was the staff. They were very knowledgeable about the menu and drinks on offer. They went the extra mile to accommodate food allergies without any fuss, offfered to make me any of the cocktails with a non alcoholic alternative (which makes a lovely change to the usual soft drink alternatives). We have been to many establishments who are struggling to find the right team because of the pandemic and have had bad service. The Fox has got it right. Well done!

With over a decade as a chef and many more in high end front of house establishments, I am a self confessed fussy snob. Being extremely knowledgeable about food/wine and how service should be its with great pleasure that I leave this review. As the title suggests, from start to finish it was outstanding. Organised staff were clearly trained and knowledgable about the food and service experience. The venue itself is beautifully decorated and very spacious giving every table a feeling of privacy. Tables are available by the bar, restaurant areas, outdoor and what appeared to be a partially covered section. Great choice of drinks with a really great mix of tasteful music at a perfect volume to really compliment the atmosphere. We had a few different servers but Becky (sorry if misspelt) was our main person. It's hard to find people who have a certain personality who genuinely make you feel like they care. The kind of person who will stand with three heavy plates whilst clearing and carry on talking just because they don't want to be rude. Becky was happy, bubbly and simply delightful. The menu is brilliant and we will be back again to try the rest. We had the lobster salad/langoustines. Both were excellent and the sourdough bread I ordered on the side was fantastic My partner had the Brill and i can tell I am going to run out of adjectives. It was just as good as the côte de boeuf which I decided to take on on my own: Faultless. Now I am going to say something I have thought about all the way home and do not say lightly. The fries were the best I have ever had. I live in France for 17 years and have had my share of fries. Wow. Quality of the beef was good and the cooking was excellent. If you fancy white wine I highly recommend the GRAVES, which just complimented a perfect evening. For puds I had the brulée, which the member of staff clearly explained was a large portion and the taste of passionfruit was sour but the ginger ice cream balanced it out well. Spot on. We mentioned the bownie was a little dry and turns out they had forgotten to put the mint cream on top. We know this as we mentioned the dry brownie after eating and they bought us another piece with some creme on it. They really care. I cannot remember the last time I had a better meal when eating out, regardless of the fantastic service, atmosphere, decor and just about everything else. The only small thing that I will say is that we were asked to pay the bill at the bar as the wifi was playing up. This wasn't an issue but when I left a £30 tip for the staff and chefs I didn't receive a thank you from the person behind the bar taking the payment. An oversight I'm sure but certainly needs to be mentioned as it did leave a slightly sour taste after what was a faultless and wonderful dining experience. We will be seeing you soon. Whatever you are doing, it is fantastic and Becky is an asset to your team. Thank you from us both. Oliver Waite and Abbey Trent

Let’s start with the positives. The food was good, very good in fact. Tasty and well presented. The ambience and environs are excellent, modern and chic with a chilled vibe. Why only two stars? Well the service, which started off as excellent soon spiralled down to very poor over the course of lunch. There were only 6 tables with guests and 6 members of staff. This seemed an excellent staff guest ratio, however it was not to be. At the end of our main course we asked for the dessert menu. We waited. And waited. 10 minutes later the dessert menu arrived. We chose desserts and waited for our order to be taken. And waited. And waited. We could see a nearby table getting a dessert menu. We waited. The nearby table ordered their desserts. We waited. Another 10 minutes passed. The nearby table got their desserts, we continued to wait. We then decided not to bother with desserts and after lunch drinks. We asked for the bill. And waited. 10 minutes later the bill arrived. We wanted to pay by card. We waited for the card machine to be brought over. And waited. 10 minutes later the waitress brought it over. She apologised for the wait! We paid and left. Can I just remind you, dear reader, that there were only 6 occupied tables and 6 members of staff? It is shocking that we had to wait 40 minutes to not have the pleasure of ordering desserts and to then to pay the bill. The staff were more focused on setting up tables that remained empty than promptly serving actual guests. The lady, who I assumed was the restaurant manager, seemed unaware that the focus of her job should have been to ensure the waiting staff were promptly helping guests. All she did was stand behind the bar for most of the 2 hours we were there. Not one glance was made by her toward the customers to see if all was well. The result: we spent £30 less than we might have done and the staff got no tip.

We were on a work visit to Southampton from South Derbyshire and decided to have a look at Lymington and overnight at The Fox before heading off to Warwick for another work thing the next day. We are so glad we did as this place is an utter delight. The dining room is very well designed, in fact, all the rooms are beautifully furnished/decorated and the bedroom we were in (Crawley) was spacious with lovely views and a beautiful bathroom. We enjoyed fish and chips, a few drinks and my husband sampled the much mentioned custard tart, which did not disappoint. The breakfast was extraordinary! Delicious and beautifully presented fruit; a cooked plate on which every item was the best example of its kind including sausage, bacon, eggs, tomatoes & mushrooms; the tea was the best Earl Grey ever; the pastries we could not manage, but the charming server brought us a takeaway box & we had them later. The key point about staying/eating here is the staff training. It should be the norm, but sadly, it is not. Every person we had contact with could not do enough to help. The servers at dinner said hello and smiled every time they came to the table. They were attentive, but not fussy and there were plenty of them. The lady who served breakfast was like the best mum you could imagine. There was a mix up with the booking/payment (my mess!) but the ladies sorting it out could not have been kinder. When we left, it was pouring, but we were helped with our bags and someone held umbrellas over us as we got into the car. Above and beyond!! I even left my dressing gown belt behind and they somehow managed to extricate it from the towels and send it on to me with a lovely card.Just an amazing place with an even more amazing staff. Good luck to them: they deserve every success.

We had seen Lennie the chef/owner on James Martin’s Saturday show and James had raved about the Fox and the food so my partner and I booked for a night away close to our 30th anniversary. June 2020. Then the lockdown hit. So we booked for my Birthday and lockdown 2 hit. So we tried for my partner’s birthday and, again, restrictions shut us down. Eventually, a year later, we booked for our 31st. What can I say? It was worth the wait. The wonderful staff spoiled us and were universally friendly, kind and accommodating. The cooking is superb, the wine list good and affordable and the room was a delight. Many, many thanks to Nicky, Becky, Manon, Lucy, Heidi, Tina and if I missed anyone, sorry. My partner and I have visited the Fox many times when staying in Winchester and we were not disappointed this time. We had nibbles, starters, mains and desserts. The nibbles were great, the crab arancini especially, melt in the mouth, would highly recommend. The halloumi starter was also fantastic. For mains I had the fillet of Brill, which was lovely however as it was a fillet I was not expecting bones, there was quite a few. nevertheless the flavor was great. My partner had the pork fillet which he recommended highly however felt it needed a sauce. The desserts, especially the soufflé was our favorite. When we arrived we were made aware that our table was booked again in 2 hours, we were aware of this as when we had originally booked the website informed us, this was fine. However as it was quite a busy evening and service was in high demand we went 30 minutes over our allocated time, this didn't seem like a problem but we were anxious that we had not finished being served within the time we were given. We look forward to returning again, thank you.

Saw the landlord of the Fox on James Martin’s Saturday kitchen and immediately wanted to go there for the famous custard tart - and we were not disappointed. The staff were welcoming and very attentive - great sense of humour too when they tried to tell me they had no custard tart!! Every course was well presented and tasted fabulous but the custard tart was by far the best thing on the menu and lived up to my expectations. Our friends really enjoyed their meals too. We will definitely be back with more friends and family - as you can’t get enough custard tart!!

We took my mother-in-law for the first time after visiting many times before and, as always, it didn't disappoint. The courtyard was bathed in sunshine but we ate inside as it was so hot outside and we all LOVED what we had. The staff are friendly, the restaurant is attractive, modern and charming at the same time. All three courses for all three of us were sublime and so reasonably priced as is the wine.

Stayed on Thursday night and had both an evening meal and breakfast. Everything was absolutely superb. Booked back in February during lock down to have something to look forward. Watched the chef cook his custard tart on James Martin Saturday Kitchen and decided to book straight away. Do what you can to get here and have the tart. Best ever. Can’t wait to go back

Another cracking meal here. So many great sounding dishes. We were outside as inside dining had not started yet. Service was very efficient and the food was delicious. This really is one of the best places to eat in Hampshire. One suggestion might be to get some seat cushions for the outside benches/chairs as it would make it a bit more comfortable.

We visited last night for the first time since 2019 and I think this visit may have topped the last one! The outside marquee area was well heated and decorated, the service was outstanding and the food was incredible! The soufflé was the highlight of the night! Cannot wait to go back again soon!

A friend and I met in Winchester and walked to Crawley for lunch at the Fox. I would highly recommend it in every way. The service was first class with such friendliness and so accommodating. The food was absolutely superb, especially the cauliflower soup and the calves liver cooked to perfection. The gin choice was great and we enjoyed a beautiful, well priced bottle of Malbec. Pudding was spot on as well. Thank you for such a memorable visit and for making the long walk so worthwhile!

Having walked from Winchester , it was worth every step. From the moment my friend Sophie and I entered to our sad departure, the service, friendliness and outstanding food was of the highest standard The staff were amazing, even moving us when it rained and then back to the sun. The meal of liver and mash was mouth watering and the souffle will set the standard for others to meet

We loved our lunch outside at this pub and the staff were all helpful and friendly. The menu looked fantastic but three of us chose the Halloumi main course which was really disappointing. Salad needed a good dollop more of the lemon mayonnaise and the Halloumi was deep fried in breadcrumbs - a cardinal sin in my view - and pretty tasteless. It could have been Mozzarella. Will definitely go back again as this may have just been an unfortunate choice but Halloumi in breadcrumbs has to go!

Me and my partner visited last weekend on a whim for dessert and noticed a terrible sewage smell that other tables were also commenting on. (tables closer to car park) we thought that would be a one off but we arrived for dinner last night and were shocked to find the smell still lingering and worse than before. A table behind us actually left after their drink because one man said “I can’t stand the smell any longer” unfortunately when the waitress said “oh that was a quick one” he didn’t tell her why although they must all be aware and I’m quite surprised nothings been done about it (I’ve just read a review from OCTOBER titled ‘Smelly’ saying the same thing, obviously the marquee side must mask the smell. The food has always been great and we’d definitely like to return however not until it’s back inside as it’s very off putting and my partner found it especially hard to stay and eat as it was making his stomach turn.

It maybe because we haven’t eaten out since December but tonight at the Fox was astonishing, the team were so welcoming, we sat in a marquee without sides but with heaters to keep the chill off.Wine choice was better that I remember, food was simply some of the best I have ever had. Langoustine to start followed by Hake and then the chefs speciality custard tart. Couldn’t be better.

What an art, to be able to produce takeaways that taste as good as it would when in the pub. We had Goan King Prawn curry and lamb with pink fir potatoes with a brownie for dessert. The food is delicious, hot and cooked perfectly. Superb, highly recommended.

Just go! That’s my advice! This is a brilliant gastro pub which I literally couldn’t fault. - the food is excellent - try the cote de boeuf it’s fabulous (and so is the bearnaise sauce and griddled flat mushrooms that come with it )- service - delightful! Very warm welcome from front of house and our waitress was attentive and charming (and all staff wore masks and were very safety conscious) - pricing - very reasonable for the quality of the produce (locally sourced) and portion size - ambience - lovely, fabulous lighting and well spaced out tables. The heated and covered outdoor area with fairy lights was beautiful - Covid measures - we felt very safe; lots of sanitiser, check in details taken, toilet entry is monitored, tables well spaced out I’ve only one complaint - it’s too far from my home in Southampton. Next time we’ll stay overnight so we can enjoy a bottle of the reasonably priced wine! We’ll be back...

The Fox is a gastro pub/restaurant at the top of its game. We've been here before, always with pooch so we dine in the bar area. Crawley is an idyllic Hampshire village with pond, ducks and lots of thatched cottages that make that extra special appeal. This trip being really special, we hadn't been out much as most people and this was our post lockdown 2 pre-Xmas fine dining lunch out.More on the food later but this visit highlight was the friendly staff, perfect service and being made to feel really welcome. Rarely have we had such a pleasant couple of hours, enjoying fine dining with great attention. The Covid security was as to be expected very good but complimentary and not overpowering. The food was aptly seasonal, starters were delicious, beautifully presented and perfect size. Our main courses were the same, perfectly cooked, hot when served (amazing how many places cook great hot food and serve it cooled !) and the plate presentation had that "we care" look. Our drinks complimented the day, my Ale was lovely, the wine choice uncomplicated but really good. My highlight of the meal was dessert, mine was a work of art, the effort and artistry in presenting my dessert was incredible, almost too good to cut into, but too delicious not to.I think I've said enough, we love the Fox, our next quest is to try their sister place in Twyford, The Bugle.Thank you to the staff at The Fox, you made this trip special, it's been a harsh year 2020 but innovative places like the Fox bring pleasure and happiness in tough times. Merry Xmas.

Booked a table for 2 of us and also stayed overnight. We were in the Leckford room, it was stunning. Large bathroom with roll top and separate shower. Loads of room to put your make up etc. Lovely large fluffy white towels. Tea and coffee facilities with plenty of biscuits, fresh milk and water in the fridge in the room. Massive bed which was extremely comfortable. Really spacious and comfortable room and will definitely stay again, if I was being really picky could do with a mirror by the plug socket for when you dry your hair- having said that there is a portable small mirror in the bathroom which was adequate. Dinner was amazing, nothing too much trouble. On the menu they had mussels as a main course but had no problem with doing a starter portion for me, then we had cote de boeuf for main - tender and gorgeous. Hubby had the mushroom and Stilton tart to start which he thoroughly enjoyed. Breakfast was very good too,m. Staff very friendly and welcoming - will be returning soon.

Just managed to squeeze 6 of us in the last evening before lockdown. Staff friendly and answered all our questions on food and drink. They knew all about gluten and allergies etc. We ordered a range of starters and mains with not much room for pudding. The birthday boy enjoyed himself immensely which we all did.

Four of us came here on a Wednesday evening, a great meal. We had starters and mains, all looked and tasted very nice and served by friendly staff. My wife had the Gurnard, which you do not often find, my mate had the Tomahawk pork chop, also looked great. Easy to get around with my wheelchair, shame about the smell in the car park. Hope to go back in the summer.

Unaccommodating, rude and belittling. Asked on a Friday evening at 19.00 if we could come down for a table of 4 for drinks, food and pool, and the man that answered the phone said no don’t bother we are closing soon as we have no customers. It’s a shame as we would have spent allot of money with them, hopefully making opening the pub worth while! Never will I go here again with such rude customer service. The man on the end of the phone hung up on me, after me asking why are you closing so soon? Hope it makes it through the next year and if it doesn’t we know why!

Often visit this pub for a meal. On this occasion very disappointing menu. For example, No chicken on menu, only one vegetarian option which was a Balti Pie. Nothing like the busy pub we have visited before. Perhaps others feel as we do about this menu? Overall, for the first time not sure if we will bother visiting again
