Lovely local venue. But… having arrived for drinks on Friday August 9th and enjoying couple of rounds of not inexpensive drinks in the pub garden we were very disappointed that the outside lights were abruptly switched off at 22.20 without warning and the management refused to switch them back on again! Bearing in mind that others sitting inside the pub were able to finish their drinks without such disruption seemed incredibly rude and unreasonable. This was a Friday evening in mid August. Absolutely appalled by this rude experience and will not be returning anytime soon. Ps. Sister pub opposite (coachmakers) still had their garden lights on when we were leaving. Very very disappointed and actually quite angry at this experience!!

Met some friends for Sunday roast. Beautiful location & gorgeous building! Mind your head as full of low beams. We asked to move as the table we were offered had very hard high back chairs- no problem or fuss, we moved to a much comfier spot! Although the arms came off the chairs if you touched them! Took about half an hour for the server to take our order- but then the food arrived fairly quickly after that! I had roast beef (£25) & it was 2 slices of medium rare meat- half of which was fat & gristle. Laid over the top of the roast potatoes- to make it look more I guess? Very small portions of vegetables- which were tasty but could have easily had double (veggies aren’t expensive)! Tiny jug of gravy. The roast was £25! So not great value & the puddings were £10 & £12 each!! Big plates but not big portions- we won’t be back.

We decided on Sunday morning to try the Red Lion for lunch, and booked a table for 1330. We arrived and were met by efficient staff who were expecting us and offered us a choice of table. Drinks were ordered from a knowledgeable waiter and arrived quickly, mine being a very well-kept pint from tge local Amwell Springs brewery. We both chose beef from an extremely well thought-out menu which again arrived after only a short wait. The meat was beautifully cooked and presented on a large plate with very well cooked greens, carrots and a freshly-made Yorkshire puddings. Sides of cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes were excellent, probably the best roasties I've had, and the horseradish was similarly delicious. We both cleared our plates and the side dishes. Utterly gorgeous, go and see for yourself.

It was lovely to return to The King William for the first time in a few years. We were made very welcome with our dog by the cheerful young server. The menu had a good mixture of pub classics and more inventive dishes. We enjoyed fish and chips, sea bass and the most well cooked and served burger ever. It was obviously home made, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Puddings of sticky toffee, eton mess and an affogato were fresh and delicious. The fire was roaring, the food was great, staff were super kind. What a fine lunch!

I work in the film industry and needed to feed 40 hungry filmmakers on a shoot. I found this restaurant and arranged a package with the manager. He was very fair and reasonable with the price and promised to have everything ready at 12.30pm on our shoot day. I sent a Runner over to collect the food and he said everything was ready on time, which is often a big challenge with large orders. My crew really enjoyed the food and loved the wide range of dishes. If I am ever in Wallingford I will go back for a proper meal there. Top marks!

Was looking forward to a club sandwich in The George Bistro. At £12 I was expected something awesome. After an extremely long wait (there was only one other person) it arrived and was a big let down, and to add insult one of the bread slices on the triple decker was burnt black. This shows a lack of care, how difficult was it to re-toast another slice of cheap white bread. A garage sandwhich would have been better
